Hi all,
obvs still very early days. I’m currently 4+4 and just trying to enjoy it really. Just wondering if anyone wanted to join me to share early symptoms, how you’re managing to hide symptoms, how you’ll reveal your pregnancy to loved ones etc. and all the other bits and bobs on this journey 🄰

@DandelionPockets I think I'm going to do the same, 12-13 weeks is just too long to know if all is ok or not.

My husband has just pointed out my belly too as the bloat builds up during the day and sticks out. I'm really slim too so it's noticeable, dreading going back to work as the majority of my clothes are fitted!

Am I the only one not getting sore or fuller boobs! This was the one positive to me that they may actually fill out a bit šŸ˜‚

I've been feeling really exhausted the last few days, nausea yesterday but not really today. And very thirsty tonight.

Soopyjoopy · 29/12/2022 20:28

Hi everyone that's joined today. Just to save you reading all over again
I'm now 5 + 1, I'm 41, will be 42 by time I have baby, it's my 2nd biological and 3rd child in total.
Just to give some info that I picked up last time. I was put on a HIGH dose of folic acid (cant remember dose I'll look up) by the midwife and remained on it throughout pregnancy - this was due to my age, however I'm aware others of similar age had a higher dose but only for first 12 ish weeks. Definitely didn't do baby any harm he's perfect!
A number of people when having scans and checks (sadly mostly Junior Dr's) told me I would be induced as "that's what we do due to age risk" so I pushed to see the consultant who told me that was nonsense and I went 41 + 2, had quite a rapid labour but there were no complications (apart from him pooing inside then being in a rush to get away from it and making me want to push in the car on the way there!!!)
No matter how much I studied hypnobirthing, listened to podcasts, read stuff labour really hurt and I shouted and swore....... a lot!!
My bag had about 200000000000 times too much stuff in it (maybe it's cos I was in and out very quickly)
I tore and was cut the "peribottle" and spritz for bits was the best 2 things I ever bought in my life!!
I know I'm getting a little ahead but they're things I wished people had told me for my first baby a little later in life hope it helps just one person

froglou · 29/12/2022 20:31

Hiya!
About 4 weeks, only just found out! Second pregnancy, already feeling really nauseous! :)

Soopyjoopy · 29/12/2022 20:36

oh, sorry there's more....
I was only sick once during whole pregnancy and that was 5 days before I found out (I wasn't looking for it or testing as was told many years ago I couldn't have children), and my HCG levels were fine, everything was "normal" throughout I just didn't get sick!
I had headaches in 1st trimester and my boobs.....omg already being large felt like the undoing of the bra each day resulted in a "THERRRRDONK" as they plummeted onto the floor painfully. Again this subsided about half way thru tri 2.
Sleep was awful from the day I found out but I'm convinced a lot of this was anxiety especially in the early days as it came with heart palpitations that subsided as time went on
Yet again currently I have no signs other than boobs are getting sorer (new word creation), odd little twinge but could be anything I just put it down to baby settling in.
I've got booking in appointment at 7 + 6 and have booked an early scan 8w. Last time I had a TV scan at 7w but I'm going to wait a bit longer this time and hopefully it can be abdo scan instead.
I've had private HCG bloods done at a great clinic due to a CP a couple of months ago.

Babydustmamma · 29/12/2022 15:56

@PatientlyImpatient sorry to hear about your losses, but tentative congratulations on this pregnancy ā™„ļø I’ve also had a loss recently and must say the anxiety is real.

I have had one successful pregnancy which came to full term and one mmc in June. I’ve had a fair amount of cramps (nothing really painful, but just aware that they’re there… on and off for the past week or so). I’m wondering if it’s more common after you’ve already had a pregnancy as I’ve read your uterus has been stretched, but finding it hard to not worry at every twinge.

anyone else having cramps?ā™„ļø

big congratulations and hello to everyone šŸŒˆā™„ļø

@Babydustmamma hey, congratulations, lovely to meet you. Even with my first I had on and off period like pains, it worried me at first however there was a little pattern I noticed, I'd get a day of cramping/pms feels then next day boobs would be more sore, I figured the cramps were baby growing and stretching and with that increasing the symptoms - that's what I told myself to feel better anyway!!

Babydustmamma · 29/12/2022 21:27

@Soopyjoopy love the list of things that I wish I’d known the first time round!!! Can also recommend the spritz for bits as well - and the expert midwife bath salts!ā™„ļø

so lovely that we’ll all be able to check in about symptoms around the same time! I’m a little early for anything major yet, usually get sickness at 6 weeks but have been having light sickness for the past week or so!

thanks for the cramps tips! Very reassuring ā™„ļø has anyone had more than one pregnancy and found they varied? I have had one full term pregnancy but got no cravings - very curious to see if I’ll get any this time round! Haha x

am just trying to enjoy every wink of sleep I can get because my pregnancy insomnia was maaaad! Way worse than the newborn phase towards the end šŸ˜… if you can believe it!

Londongirl87 · 29/12/2022 21:37

Congratulations to everyone who just joined! And thanks for the tips @Soopyjoopy !

Here I am somewhere between 4+6 (according to my LMP) and 5+1 (according to ovulation date / short cycles) and my main symptoms are still bigger boobs + slight twinges / mild cramps a few times a day

I heard back from the hospital where I self referred last week and have my booking appointment at 9 weeks on the 28th of January, and almost 13 weeks scan on the 20th of February

I don’t think I can wait until then to know if there is a heartbeat so I will also book an early scan privately between 7 and 8 weeks!

Havanalily1806 · 29/12/2022 22:06

@May94x I've still got plenty of time until 10 weeks so I'll just wait and see :)

I'm very tired, at about 3 o'clock every day, but some days are worse than others.
My boobs are sore sometimes but no where near as bad when I first found out. Oh and constantly need a wee šŸ˜…

The bloating is the worst for me, on an evening, and I can't decide if I'm starting to get a sour taste in my mouth, or starting to feel nausea it's weird šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø I'm struggling when eating my tea but it could just be the bloating, not really fancying anything that's put in front of me

Shinea · 30/12/2022 06:34

I din have nausea or food aversion in my entire pregnancy last time!! However this time I m being nauseous and sick since 4 weeks!! šŸ˜”

chickpea1982 · 30/12/2022 07:19

Welcome to all the new joiners!

Loving the "things I wish I'd known"@Soopyjoopy . It's got me thinking about my list. Some that come to mind are:

  1. DON'T just sit on the sofa and eat ice cream for the entire pregnancy!!! You will regret it!!! (Believe me, I've been there). Easier with the second because you don't get a chance to sit still...
  2. Try to keep fit while pregnant - or at least strong. When the baby comes you will need a strong back and core to carry them around all the time, and bend over to change nappies etc. I really suffered with sciatica both pregnancies, and wish I'd started doing back exercises from the beginning to get myself in better shape.
  3. Don't get hung up on having a "natural birth" without pain relief. It's pure masochism designed to make women feel bad. We use painkillers when we have a headache, so why not when we are having a baby?! My first labour was 40 hours start to finish - the first 30 or so I got through with hypnobirthing etc. but the last 10 I needed some help...
  4. Don't get hung up on labour - it's a very small part of the whole. You will be in labour for a day or so, but will have a child for life 😊

Hope this helps someone! Would love to hear from others too. x

Morag202287 · 30/12/2022 07:35

Congratulations to everyone on getting your positivesšŸ’•. I have read alot of your symptoms thought I would share mine, quite minimal. Start of Dec, before I found out, I had a couple of days feeling sick but nothing transpired, I was absolutely knackered a symptom I've had with all my losses but I put it down to a busy month of uni and shopping. Went on my Xmas night on the 9th oblivious. I basically tested on the day my period was due and hadn't come, on the 20th and I genuinely had to squint to see the line haha. Bought more tests sure enough pregnant. Since then only sore boobs on and off and I've had brown dc on wiping every 2nd day for almost a week. Has anyone else been getting this? I know its very very common. Each of my 4 losses started with this but quickly turned red so I'm taking this as a good thing that no red has appeared HCG doubled on the slightly lower end but still good thickened lining on scanning also good, slight cramping on and off nothing severe thankfully. Anyone managed to avoid sickness so far? Xx

Augustbabyy · 30/12/2022 07:49

Some great tips on here, thanks everyone! I haven't told anyone IRL yet, so great to be able to discuss symptoms. My most prominent is that I have a dry mouth & lips allll the time! Makes me want to constantly drink water! Anyone else?! I don't feel nauseous yet but seem to have reduced interest in food in general. Trying to make myself eat enough each day.
Booked a private scan for 2 weeks time when I will be over 7 weeks - just want the reassurance that everything is going ok.

DandelionPockets · 30/12/2022 09:01

Thank you @Soopyjoopy and @chickpea1982 for your lists! I can see this thread is going to be invaluable over time for first timers like me.

Had such trouble sleeping last night, just could not fall asleep which is so unusual for me. Hope it was a one off, would much rather wake up early than spend all night willing myself to drop off.

It's interesting how varied the early symptoms can be, seems like between us we've got all of them though!

Mountainview8 · 30/12/2022 12:02

I usually eat loads and have been a bit off my food, but still making sure I eat, I was hungry when I woke up this morning. It's mainly sweet stuff I'm not bothered by at the moment, but I've been given loads of chocolate for Xmas and I've hardly touched it!

Notmulan · 30/12/2022 12:23

I’m not making any appointments yet as still too flabbergasted!

I agree. Generally I think that unless you’re being really sick in first or second trimester just try to live life as normal. Exercise , eat healthily take vitamins. Enjoy the glow. Unless there’s a medical reason to rest , get out and do as you’ll feel stronger going into the third trimester.

also research options on birth but stay flexible. Some women find giving birth easy and natural , others need more help. I’ve had one natural birth but with assistance from forceps, one emergency under general anaesthetic and one planned c section. All resulted in a healthy baby :)

Owlgirl14 · 30/12/2022 12:24

@Morag202287 Congratulations, we must be on a similar timeline as I was also due on the 20th but it never showed up which was a big shock.

I've just started feeling nauseous the last few days, luckily it hasn't lasted too long. Also getting headaches with it.

Apart from that I've been having bloating which gets worse through the day, emotional crying at things on the tv I wouldn't usually, feeling extremely tired come the afternoon and napping most days. I was waking at 5/6am each morning but started sleeping through until 7/8am the last few days.

Owlgirl14 · 30/12/2022 12:26

@Augustbabyy I started feeling really thirsty last night, hubby went and got me some fizzy pop which I don't usually drink.

5+3 today and the nausea started a few days ago. Just trying to take each day as it comes really.

Augustbabyy · 30/12/2022 13:13

@Owlgirl14 ohh maybe I'll try something other than water to quench my thirst!
I'm 5+4 today and feeling exhausted!

Owlgirl14 · 30/12/2022 14:30

@Augustbabyy Id give it a try as it really quenched my thirst. I asked him to get cans rather than bottles so I can keep some to one side should I feel thirsty again another day.

I drink quite healthily, water, decaf green tea, fruit teas, peppermint and camomile tea. But nothing was helping until I guzzled some pop and felt much better afterwards 😊

Owlgirl14 · 30/12/2022 14:31

@Augustbabyy Sorry forgot to say the exhaustion and nausea seems to have hit me this week!

Londongirl87 · 30/12/2022 15:37

Are you all going to wait until the 12 weeks NHS ultrasound, or going for a private one before, and if so, at how many weeks?

Owlgirl14 · 30/12/2022 15:49

@Londongirl87 We we're discussing this last night and think we're going to get a private one done at around 8 weeks.

Cat1424 · 30/12/2022 18:02

@Londongirl87 We’ve also opted to have a private one done which we’re having on Monday as we’ve no idea when the NHS one will and want some reassurance before then.

Firsttimemomma1 · 30/12/2022 18:09

Update on my last message, 6 week scan today and we got to see baby’s heartbeat flickering away!! Was absolutely magical and so reassuring.

I am lucky that the EPAU where I live are incredible and will offer these early scans on the NHS just to reassure ladies if nothing else.

Measured me back a little at 6weeks +1 so a long way to go until the 12 week scan and as the nurse today said she has no concerns, next scan is booked in for three weeks (19th Jan) rather than weekly now. Will likely slip a private one in in a week and half’s time as it’s fascinating to see baby develop each week and ofcourse to check everything is okay for my own peace of mind.

feeling very very blessed as I’ve done nothing but panic about not seeing a heartbeat and I’m sure some of you ladies are the same if you’re a natural worrier like me.

Congrats again to all of us mommas to be. Our bodies are magical and I love reading your stories!

Augustbabyy · 30/12/2022 18:51

@Londongirl87 I've booked a private one for midway through week 7 😊
