Hi all,
obvs still very early days. I’m currently 4+4 and just trying to enjoy it really. Just wondering if anyone wanted to join me to share early symptoms, how you’re managing to hide symptoms, how you’ll reveal your pregnancy to loved ones etc. and all the other bits and bobs on this journey 🄰

Had my booking in appointment just got to wait for the scan appointment letter (which can take up to 2 weeks when I’ll be 12 weeks so hoping it won’t be that long). She said that scans can be anything up to 14 weeks but I’m really hoping it’s a bit sooner than that.

Also got to wait for a consultants appointment letter to come through because of my previous birth I have to speak to one. It might just be over the phone though with any luck as it’s a talk they don’t need to check me over. She’s said I’ll 100% have a c section

She’s also arranging for someone to speak to me later in the pregnancy about my previous birth as I don’t fully know what happened and I have blocked it out of my mind for the last 7.5 years but now I’m pregnant again it’s been playing on my mind and I get upset when thinking about it.

Owlgirl14 · 26/01/2023 14:50

@allgoodthings84 I hope your booking in appointment went well.

I had mine today too, she rang and booked my scan appointment whilst we were there. Will be having it 16th Feb when I'm 12+2 so I'm really happy with that.

I hope the wait isn't too long for you. I've also got to see the consultant after my scan due to medication/condition I think.

Owlgirl14 · 26/01/2023 14:53

@allgoodthings84 Forgot to say it suddenly feels quite feel now too as I've got my maternity record book and I got given loads of Bounty packs which have free vitamins in. So I got enough to last me until the next appointment with my midwife at 16 weeks.

allgoodthings84 · 26/01/2023 14:54

@Owlgirl14 I’m glad yours went well too. They ring and book them all at the end of each day here so letters are sent out from the hospital directly with appointment time and date.

She said that the consultants still like to do appointments over the phone (since covid) when they can do I’m hoping it will be over the phone as it’s not that close to me and I don’t really need to see in person.

allgoodthings84 · 26/01/2023 14:57

@Owlgirl14 it seems they do things so different where you are. They don’t do the maternity record books here anymore (they did when I had my daughter 7 years ago) it’s all online now sent to your email. I got the little pack with the midwife contact details and the form to take to my scan but that’s it

Moni81 · 26/01/2023 15:23

I can see everyone is getting booking appointment now. I had mine today as well, definitely it's upgrade from past, I was given very detailed pregnancy folder to carry to appointments. They put me on medium risk because of my age, also treating my pregnancy as first lol as last one was over 10 years ago😐. Was also prescribed aspirin from 12 weeks due to above factors. They allocated midwife and consultant, plus there will be some additional growth scans because of my age. So yeah definitely all that made me feel a little ancient šŸ™ˆ

allgoodthings84 · 26/01/2023 15:42

@Moni81 how old are you if you don’t mind me asking? I’m 38 and they didn’t even mention my age

Moni81 · 26/01/2023 15:48

@allgoodthings84 I'm 42, they put all 40+ on medium risk, I attached copy of different pathways from pregnancy folder.

@Moni81 I have the same folder too to take to my appointments. It was an overload of information today so can't remember everything they said. Even my husband came out asking me things and he's better at remembering than me!

There was no mention of risk with me, just that I also need to see a consultant. I'm 36 so know I'm a little on the older side too being over 35 but it seems more common these days.

Did you get a 12 scan appointment today or do you need to wait?

Moni81 · 26/01/2023 16:10

@Owlgirl14 I'm still under 9weeks, she said I will receive scan appointment date via post. I can't attend on one specific day so she put note to exclude it just in case, no problem.

Owlgirl14 · 26/01/2023 17:43

Has anyone had any time off sick before telling work you're pregnant?

If so did you tell them earlier than planned or just put it down as normal sickness and waited until the 12 weeks to tell them.

Londongirl87 · 26/01/2023 18:00

@Owlgirl14 I've had to take a few days off last week and I said I felt ill, I didn't mention the pregnancy.
I am trying to wait until 12 weeks (or later) because I am a bit scared of how they will react. (I am a director in the company and have a quite specific role for which they will probably not find a maternity cover).
I love my job and still need a bit of time to think about the best way to tell them! And then I'll try to train someone from my team to take over while I'm away :-)

allgoodthings84 · 26/01/2023 18:33

@Owlgirl14 not time off but I had to tell the big boss at work on Monday as they had the floors painted next to my office using industrial solvent based paints and the fumes were (still are) so bad. I told HR and they looked into it and it can cause birth defects if solvent or lead based especially in first trimester. Had to tell big boss for his suggestion on what to do. He moved me to the main upstairs office and told everyone it’s because of migraines from the fumes and GP said I had to be moved or signed off (good of him to come up with a fib šŸ˜‚).

allgoodthings84 · 26/01/2023 19:01

@Moni81 I can see from that I’m medium risk because of previous c section.

Londongirl87 · 26/01/2023 19:30

Does anyone else have sciatica pain? Or know if it is normal in early pregnancy? (9 weeks tomorrow)
I went to the office today (I usually work from home) wearing heels (I am an idiot) and since the afternoon, I can hardly move anymore because of a super sharp pain in the left buttock whenever I walk / move :/
No other symptom, no cramps, no spotting or bleeding, just pain in the butt...

allgoodthings84 · 26/01/2023 19:46

@Londongirl87 every so often I get a sharp sciatica pain but I think it’s because back in 2020 I had a back fall and landed on my back on top of a wooden toy kitchen and I had really bad sciatica after that for a few weeks. It feels exactly the same but just one sharp quick pain once every week or so. I think sciatica is normal in pregnancy.

allgoodthings84 · 26/01/2023 19:46

A bad fall that meant to say

JenfaK · 26/01/2023 20:41

Ohh me too! I’m due early Sept and it doesn’t feel real quite yet - so you know what I mean? šŸ˜…

Tasxx · 26/01/2023 21:08

Hi all. Hope you are all well.

Yesterday I had a private scan at what I thought was 9 weeks but the sonographer said that it looked around 7 weeks.

I am slightly disappointed as the baby didn’t measure as big as what it should have been.

Has this happened for anyone else?

There was a heartbeat moving but I’m still slightly worried and will have to wait until my 12 week scan.

Soopyjoopy · 26/01/2023 21:14

@Moni81

I'll be 42 when I give birth this time, I turned 40 while pregnant with my little boy, I have a hole in the heart, because of this I was referred to consultant, the 1st was a junior Dr who told me I'd be induced at 38 week "due to age" and thats just how it was, then the next, a locum told me I'd be induced or c section, I kicked off monumentally and got to see the main consultant who was lovely said its "so outdated" to use the word risk just because ur over 40, said I had no risks, "all babies come out at somepoint, we monitor everyone the same to make sure they do it the safest way". I loved her, and i had a natural birth at 41 + 2, some slight complications but nothing that was triggered by my age and I'll fight for exactly the same again. X

Owlgirl14 · 26/01/2023 21:22

@Londongirl87 @allgoodthings84 Thanks, think I'm just going to have to say it was normal illness. I do have a condition which flares and has very similar symptoms to pregnancy so won't look too suspicious anyway.

Plus I want to tell my boss in person and she will be away for the next few weeks which is ideal and hopefully she'll be around after my 12 week scan.

I do need to think how to approach the subject though as it will be quite a shock and I don't want to just blurt out I'm pregnant but not sure how else you can put it!

Moni81 · 26/01/2023 21:53

@Soopyjoopy I know it's often a lot like ticking boxes. For example to take aspirin you need 1 high risk factor or 2 medium risk factors. Ok I understand being 40+ but the other one for me was having last pregnancy over 10 years ago ....not sure what it has to do with high blood pressure risk etc....but here you go, anyway aspirin shouldnt do any harm so I will not argue. When it comes to intervention such c section or induction I will follow advice and as it stands for now my due date is 2nd of September, I would rather have August baby if it's so close.

Soopyjoopy · 26/01/2023 22:42

@Moni81 tbh the birth was quite traumatic (I wont go into details) however as I said nothing to do with my age. At the time I told OH NEVER AGAIN, ha, as it was scary and awful, however there is a part of me now that thinks there are things I could have done a lot different (no 1 go to hospital before I started pushing, no 2 at least take paracetamol, no medication although it wasn't on purpose is NOT the way forward!!) and I'd quite like another natural birth, at least I know it's quick! Around an hour from "active" labour to having him and before that around 6 ish hours of contractions that didn't even get uncomfortable until around 5hrs in!! This one will positively fly out ;)

Cat1424 · 27/01/2023 07:50

@Tasxx I had a private scan at what I thought was 7+5 but baby was measuring 6+4 with a heartbeat so around a week behind. I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage, it may be that you ovulated later than you thought, or your baby might not have had a growth spurt yet. The measurements are so minute that they could easily be out by a few days etc. The same thing also happened to my friend early on and she’s now due in March.

I know it’s hard to not to worry, I have my 12 week scan next week and it’s probably the main thing I’ve worried about, so in that sense the private scan didn’t help reassure me, but I’m sure all will be okay 😊 have you got a date for your 12 week?
