Hi all,
obvs still very early days. I’m currently 4+4 and just trying to enjoy it really. Just wondering if anyone wanted to join me to share early symptoms, how you’re managing to hide symptoms, how you’ll reveal your pregnancy to loved ones etc. and all the other bits and bobs on this journey 🄰

My scan went amazingly. Measuring 9 weeks exactly (by opk’s ovulation was 9+1) so where it should be and it’s got a very strong heartbeat of 174bpm. The Sonographer checked ovaries etc too and everything is looking good 😊

laurapalmer22 · 22/01/2023 16:19

Yay, so happy about people's positive scan news! 🄰

Great news @allgoodthings84 :)

allgoodthings84 · 22/01/2023 21:48

Thanks @Ally345 😊

if it helps anyone else having a private scan, I drank 1 lite of water an hour before my appointment and my bladder was very full but it made it very easy for the sonographer to find the baby abdominally. She found it right away after showing me my full bladder šŸ˜‚. She seemed very pleased it was so full though she thanked me ha ha. As soon as it was over I had the longest wee ever. I always drink plenty of water after but not in such a short space of time as I drank it in 10 mins

allgoodthings84 · 22/01/2023 21:51

The experience was lovely though as saw it all on a massive screen and didn’t feel rushed and they were so friendly. We got pictures printed and emailed a code to view and download online along with a video showing the baby with its heartbeat.

we are considering a gender scan (cheaper than the early dating scan) at around 17 weeks as splits the time between 12 week and 20 weeks scan and that will be when we tell my daughter so can get a cannon for her to set off to find out what it is. We will probably find out ourselves at the scan but surprise her,

laurapalmer22 · 23/01/2023 07:55

OK, who else is struggling with the bloat?? The past week my clothes have started to fit uncomfortably and it feels like I already have a bump but it's just bloating. I'm just shy of 5'3 and reasonably lean so I'm sometimes wondering if I'm showing already but that can't be at 8+5? First time pregnancy too. I can't wait for it to be warmer already so I can wear loose dresses...

Owlgirl14 · 23/01/2023 10:55

@laurapalmer22 I have from the beginning, my belly seems to get bigger throughout the day and like you looks like a bump!

My lower belly has had a slight bump from the beginning anyway which is the uterus expanding early on, but as I'm quite lean you obviously notice a lot more!

I'm also petite at 5,2 and always wear fitted clothes so I'm struggling with what to wear already. Most of my jeans are a no go already!

I've got my first midwife appointment on Thursday so it's starting to feel a bit more real. This month seems to be going quite quick and I think the 12 week scan will soon come round!

How are you feeling other than the bloat?

laurapalmer22 · 23/01/2023 10:59

@Owlgirl14 Yeah, I have the lower belly bump too which does seem like the uterus expanding and not just normal bloat!

I'm still feeling quite exhausted and with a constant dull headache. Mildly nauseated on and off most days but it hasn't gotten worse and I haven't been sick yet. I don't think knocks wood it'll get much worse than this as I've stabilised at this level for the past few weeks.

It does feel like it's going quicker and quicker. In just a week plus two days I'll be 25% of the way already 😱

Londongirl87 · 23/01/2023 11:02

Is anyone considering doing a private NIPT / Harmony test? I am 36 and worried about the higher risks of trisomy so I was thinking of booking one privately since the test from the NHS seems to have more false positives and negatives.
I have my booking appointment on Saturday so will ask the midwife as I read somewhere that some hospitals offer it straight away to 'older' mums.

And other question: When are you planning to plan work? I've been feeling so tired lately that I feel like my productivity at work is getting a bit of a hit. I also had to miss an offsite last week (which lasted 2 days and included dinners + a night in a hotel), and I am tempted to tell my boss, so he understands why I am not 100%, but I am just 8+3 so I feel like it is too early...

@laurapalmer22 and @Owlgirl14 I am also super blotted! I bought my favourite jeans one size up a couple of weeks ago, and live in leggings whenever I don't have to be in the office! I am 5'5 and not overweight but I've always had a bit of belly fat and I feel like it is so obvious now since I can't really hold my stomach in anymore because of the bloat.

Londongirl87 · 23/01/2023 11:51

*to TELL work, not to plan work... I am definitely tired!

allgoodthings84 · 23/01/2023 13:01

@Londongirl87 I’m 38 and depending on our risk will have the NIPT test.

I’m 9+4 and had to tell one of the main bosses today as they have painted the floor downstairs over the weekend with industrial solvent paint which I’ve read should be avoided in pregnancy as can cause birth defects. I needed to request to be moved upstairs so had to say why. He won’t tell others but obviously people are questioning why I’ve moved

allgoodthings84 · 23/01/2023 13:05

I sometimes feel a bit bloated but I know it isn’t baby or uterus at this stage as not possible yet. With my daughter I didn’t show obviously until way after 20 weeks so hoping will be the same this time. I’m small too only 5ft tall and size 8. Last time my jeans fitted until 16 odd weeks then started to feel a bit tight. My jeans still fit at moment luckily but I know I’ll need to look at maternity jeans soon as I live in jeans

Owlgirl14 · 23/01/2023 14:52

@Londongirl87 I'm not sure of all the tests really, I have my midwife app on Thursday so hoping I'll find out a bit more then. I'm also 36 so interested to see what they say!

We're not telling anyone until after the 12 week scan, including work. I've been mainly wfh this month so it's not been too bad but will start going in once or twice a week from Feb. Hopefully can hide it until then and will have to tell my boss as soon as I see her in the office as I'm wanting to tell a few other close friends but I know how things can mistakenly slip so really she needs to know first just in case. She will have no idea though as I've never been shy about not really liking kids šŸ˜‚

Nypie · 23/01/2023 15:41

Glad you said that @froglou I got my 12 week scan letter from kings and they didnt mention drinking anything beforehand!

Cat1424 · 23/01/2023 18:55

@laurapalmer22 I feel your pain on struggling with the bloat!! I’ve had a bump at the bottom of my belly for a good 2 weeks now, to the point where even some of my baggy dresses are becoming tight šŸ˜‚

To those of you awaiting your 12 week scan, how are you managing any anxiety? Mine is next Wednesday and although I had an early scan at the beginning of January, which helped (for about a day šŸ˜‚) all I can think about is ā€˜what if’ and it’s driving me crazy wondering if bean is still alright in there, particularly as the only symptoms I have now are tiredness and gagging when I brush my teeth haha!

allgoodthings84 · 23/01/2023 19:19

@Cat1424 I’m 10 weeks on Thursday but don’t know when my scan is yet as my booking in appointment isn’t until Thursday and we have to do that first then wait for a letter in the post. I waited until 9 weeks before having a private scan knowing if further along less chance of a miscarriage after seeing a strong heartbeat

Anon1234677 · 23/01/2023 22:03

I’m really struggling with body changes already. I’m 5ft 1, normally a size 8. I’m about 5/6 weeks. My work dresses size 8 don’t zip up anymore. It’s like overnight my ribs have expanded. I read online these changes can be perm. Any ideas how to come to terms with this? Is this normal? It’s my first. I don’t know if it’s hormones but I’m so emotional and this just seems to be pushing me over the edge. If im like this now what is it going to be in august. I feel so selfish but also don’t feel beautiful. I used to love getting ready for work.

allgoodthings84 · 24/01/2023 07:20

@Anon1234677 I’m 5ft and size 8. Before my daughter I was a size 6-8. After she was born I did get back to a size 8 fairly quickly as did a lot of walking to get me out of the house. I’m not as bothered these days though

Owlgirl14 · 24/01/2023 09:35

Did anyone else's symptoms ramp up around 9 weeks

Mine seem to settle a bit around 8 weeks but the last 2 days I've felt awful. Really bad fatigue has hit, along with the headaches, nausea, feeling unwell, tummy gurgling/gas and not sleeping much.

I read hormones peak around now and it certainly seems to be doing that!

I've had to take a day off work sick as I just can't cut it on 3 hours sleep and a thumping headache.

Cat1424 · 24/01/2023 10:05

@Owlgirl14 my fatigue started really hitting home around the start of week 9 and it hasn’t eased off, been going to bed at 9 if I’m lucky! I’m approx 10+6 and I’ve had all sorts of weird symptoms the last few weeks so defo would agree it ramps up! Hopefully it won’t be for too much longer!
