Hi all,
obvs still very early days. I’m currently 4+4 and just trying to enjoy it really. Just wondering if anyone wanted to join me to share early symptoms, how you’re managing to hide symptoms, how you’ll reveal your pregnancy to loved ones etc. and all the other bits and bobs on this journey 🄰

@Owlgirl14 i am having the same issues with temperature control! I get so hot at night, in bed that I can’t sleep. It’s driving me crazy already!

Owlgirl14 · 03/01/2023 09:09

@ClaBro1 Sorry to hear you're struggling too. I had to get up and run my wrists under the cold tap to cool down. Finally managed a bit of sleep, but then was cold at some point as woke with my blanket over me and felt hot again šŸ™ˆ

Worst night so far, also felt a bit headachey and nauseous so was sat eating ginger biscuits at 3am this morning.

I'm used to various symptoms having CFS/ME, but it was all under control and I was feeling great and I feel like this is a big set back for me feeling poorly again and triggers my anxiety.

Got an app with doctor next week so least I can discuss all my concerns and medication.

Back to work today and I've had 4 hours sleep if that. Luckily wfh but still think it will be a struggle.

laurapalmer22 · 03/01/2023 09:11

Not having many symptoms these past few days which makes me wonder if I'm still pregnant... 🫠

FarmBaby3 · 03/01/2023 09:12

For those who are confused by a lot of the advice, I found two books really useful when pregnant previously.

One was Emily Oster's Expecting Better.

The other was Debunking the Bump by Daphne Adler.

I used them all the time for reference as to what was safe for me to eat, drink or do when pregnant.

I didn't have symptoms with my son from week 5 and week 13.

Owlgirl14 · 03/01/2023 09:15

@Londongirl87 Sorry to hear you've not had a good night, I didn't either and back to work today which will be a struggle but luckily wfh.

I hope all will be ok for you. It is a worrying time the first 12 weeks. I've just reached 6 weeks, so feel a little milestone today.

Im super anxious about being pregnant though and what's to come as it was a bit of a shock for us. Also do any other first timers find it weird that something is growing inside us? Hoping it's not just me freaking out šŸ™ˆ

NP2705 · 03/01/2023 09:19

@laurapalmer22 im very similar but hoping it’s either too early or maybe we’ll just be lucky and not suffer too badly.

with my daughter I was very sick but it didn’t start until 7 weeks

Cat1424 · 03/01/2023 09:39

For those waiting for their midwife to contact them, I called mine this morning after waiting 3 weeks (the allotted time they said they’d contact me in). They advised they don’t generally do the booking appointment until 10 weeks so I’d get a notification by text in the next few days to book which will be in the middle of January.

It’s still frustrating but just wanted to post in case there are others who were left in limbo wondering if their self referral was picked up! I had a private scan yesterday too, which showed me at 6+5 which is around a week less than expected on actual cycle dates and LMP but there was a strong heartbeat so I was chuffed. I’m now just debating whether to have another at the end of Jan as it doesn’t look like I’ll be having my NHS scan until early Feb at the earliest!

laurapalmer22 · 03/01/2023 09:49

Yes, I trust it's normal symptoms come and go, and indeed some people don't have any symptoms at all! Also I noticed my boobs are still bigger than usual so there's definitely something happening.

I sent my maternity self-referral right before Christmas but then I changed my mind a week later and decided to self-refer to another unit, and so I've told both units that I've changed my mind, and now really hope I haven't been lost in the system but do get booked in somewhere...

allgoodthings84 · 03/01/2023 10:09

I’m back at work tomorrow. It’s teachers training day here today so I have today booked off and got my daughters friend with us for the day too. I really felt like chilling this morning and giving my daughter the iPad šŸ˜‚. Instead I’m currently sat in soft play so they can run around while I sip on a can of apple tango and nibbling salt and vinegar crisps. I usually have a bit of an addiction to Diet Coke/Coke Zero/Pepsi max but I can’t drink any of it now it tastes all wrong and just like when I was pregnant with my daughter only salt and vinegar or salted crisps help short term with the nausea.

I stupidly did another one step test yesterday morning (at 30dpo) and it was a massive dye stealer but I would have worried if not so it was so silly of me

Notmulan · 03/01/2023 11:25

@Londongirl87 dont worry. You may have a bug , which would be unpleasant but unlikely to be risky or it could just be hormone changes. I get stomach cramps at the moment but I’m just a bit windy

@laurapalmer22 don’t worry. There are not many of us here who are feeling sick yet so might be that we escape it , or something that develops later. I remember feeling mildly car sick at times, with my other pregnancies but never felt like i was going to be sick.

ive finally accepted that this may be happening and have self referred to the maternity unit.

Moni81 · 03/01/2023 11:36

London girl it's more likely some food didn't agree with you or some stomach bug. On the other hand it could be pregnancy hormones surging, I'm more constipated past couple of days and it's no fun either. Normally coffee would hlp, I'm used to at least 3 strong brewed coffees a day, but can't stand taste of it ....back on flavoured teas as I don't drink English breakfast, I'm generally not tea person, and here you go lol.

London girl that's so convenient being able to work at home. I on the other hand work 4 on 4 off as night hotel receptionist just 2 miles from home. Luckily it's not physically demanding mostly just sit on my bum watching Netflix for 8h. I'm back at work but lots of pending holidays ahead of me and good perk of this shift pattern is that little holiday stretch long way, so will be working only 3weeks in next couple of months.

Nik84 · 03/01/2023 11:36

I’m back to work tomorrow as a TA and dreading it! I haven’t been waking up until at least 10am for over a week and I can’t see how I’m going to wake up at 06:30 in the morning 😫 My last pregnancy was the opposite, I’d wake at stupid o’clock everyday but then pass out early afternoon. No sickness for me so far, boobs are very tender. I’m feeling a bit more positive about things now and finally told my husband a few days ago, he was chuffed but we’re both of the mindset to not get too excited just yet. Waiting until after the first scan to tell our children and parents. Hope everyone is doing ok xx

Moni81 · 03/01/2023 11:46

To all of you that are looking for nausea symptoms, honestly I hope to escape it this time, not fun at all, especially at work. I remember even though I felt sick and couldn't eat much I was massively swollen, did look like way ahead in pregnancy. So far no swelling, absolutely hated being puffed up. I have been following keto/ low carb diet for years now, don't plan on changing habits even if I have to ea@often

Moni81 · 03/01/2023 11:48

I can't eat starchy food anymore anyway as it hurst my stomach, so see if low carb pregnancy will be any different.

Mortima · 03/01/2023 12:40

Solidarity to everyone struggling with symptoms and going back to work...I'm WFH today and tomorrow (thankfully) and have been sick a couple of times this morning. The nausea has really ramped up for me over the last few days (I'm approx 7 weeks), and Cyclizine hasn't helped so far. I'm hoping to speak to GP this afternoon to see if there's anything else that will help me be able to work.

I also had a pretty rough NYD and spent the night in hospital due to severe abdominal pain/lower back pain, and had convinced myself it was an ectopic pregnancy. Thankfully the scan showed everything as it should be, and the pain disappeared after about 17 hours, so I have no idea what it was. Wondered if anyone else has ever experienced similar?

DandelionPockets · 03/01/2023 13:25

Congratulations to recent arrivals to this thread! Hope all goes well.

WFH today too, on about 4hours sleep. Can't seem to stay asleep atm which is very unusual for me. Normally sleep solidly for 8 hours (much to the annoyance of my sometimes insomniac DP šŸ˜‚).

I've booked a private scan for 8weeks along to see if everything seems ok. Also hoping it makes it feel a bit more real of there is a little heartbeat that can be detected!

May94x · 03/01/2023 13:41

I’m 6+2 and the nausea finally hit a couple of days ago! So thankful I WFH.

Is anyone else feeling really unfit? Pre pregnancy my average resting heart rate was around 50bpm, now it’s around 63, and it’s just shot up to 105 walking up the stairs and I was out of breath šŸ˜‚

Trying to keep as active as I can but really struggling!

laurapalmer22 · 03/01/2023 14:06

@May94x Congratulations! Haha, yes, my resting heart rate pre-pregnancy was 50bpm as well, and now it's jumped to 60.

DandelionPockets · 03/01/2023 14:10

@May94x same, was laying in bed last night and just noticed my heart rate was much higher than normal. Googled it and it is normal for it to increase.

Ellenn · 03/01/2023 14:32

Hey everyone, hoping to join in! I’m 6+2 wks after an embryo transfer. Although super worried at the moment as had some bleeding yesterday and spotting today. Has anyone had an early scan? I’m trying to decide if I should pay for one privately. My EPU has given me a scan for next week it feeling so anxious and paranoid now as my last transfer ended up a biochemical pregnancy x

laurapalmer22 · 03/01/2023 14:34

Congratulations @Ellenn ! I just booked our private scan. It's 2 weeks away, and I'll be just over 7 weeks I think. We can't bear the long weeks of not knowing if there's anything in there at all.

Londongirl87 · 03/01/2023 14:47

@Ellenn Congratulations! Similar to @laurapalmer22 here, we will do a private early scan at around 8 weeks, just to make sure that everything is where it should be / growing like it should. We will also probably tell our parents then!

Augustbabyy · 03/01/2023 15:02

@May94x same! I've got a horse who usually I would ride for 45/60mins and not feel like I'd exerted myself, but now I'm out of breath after 10mins! My crazy thirst has thankfully subsided, and my appetite has definitely returned. No nausea yet thank goodness, 6+1 today. How's everyone else symptom wise? My most apparent one are my boobs - they have definitely grown and have been very sore. Going to have to a look for some comfortable maternity bras soon.
