Hi all,
obvs still very early days. I’m currently 4+4 and just trying to enjoy it really. Just wondering if anyone wanted to join me to share early symptoms, how you’re managing to hide symptoms, how you’ll reveal your pregnancy to loved ones etc. and all the other bits and bobs on this journey 🄰

Hello, late joiner, hope it's OK! Been really enjoying reading everyone's experiences.

Got a very positive test on 21/12, 3 days before my period was due, I reckon I'm 5+2 weeks, so due around early September. 33 years, first ever pregnancy, and we were TTC. All our family were over for Christmas, so although it's very early, we decided to tell them, as it's also the first time our parents met.

Very excited, but also completely terrified about everything that might go wrong.

Symptoms have been many but very mild: constant twinges/stretching/pulling around my uterus, sore boobs, and very mild and intermittent nausea which started a couple of days ago.

The week I found out we were pregnant I came down with a cold, and I had a low grade fever of 37.5-38.1 for about 24 hours which now of course has me extremely worried about any neural tube defects (I think worrying excessively will just be my life from now on if this pregnancy is successful). Kept it down with paracetamol. Any word of reassurance re: fever in early pregnancy would be extremely appreciated. šŸ™

Laurapalmer congratulations, looks like we are due same time, I am 5 weeks and 2 days according to my period dates. I only found out couple of days ago, my period was due on 23rd but never came. I also wend down oth horrible flu/cold on Wednesday before Christmas, similar to you had mid 37C temperature that wouldn't go down with meds for 24h. Then lots of cough and generally worst flu I had for years as I don't normally get sick. Now you worry me a bit, never heard about neural tube defects....I figured out I got so sick because our immune system goes down when pregnant to protect baby.

laurapalmer22 · 02/01/2023 15:33

@Moni81 Congratulations to you too! Yeah, I think we got sick because our immune system is weaker, I haven't had a fever in probably 12 years, and I'm obnoxiously "never sick"... Until now. Seems like we have a lot in common. šŸ˜…

There are some studies showing a link between having fever in early pregnancy and neural tube defects in the baby (because the neural tube forms now) but I'm guessing (I'm not a medical expert) short lived, low grade fevers like we've had should be fine. I'm just the type of person who reads some research and catastrophises it to apply to me, even though the odds are still so low. Last night I spoke to one of my closest friends who's training to be an obstetrician and she thinks there's nothing to worry about. Still hard not to worry until I've had the scan, and it just feels like forever away.

Notmulan · 02/01/2023 15:40

@Moni81 i have the same due date. However I think it’s likely I’ll need to deliver sooner as low chance of natural birth . I’m burying my head in the sand about ā€œgeriatric pregnancyā€ (I’ll be 40 when I have the baby) and the risks. Also who wants to be a geriatric anything at 40?!!!.

i haven’t booked any appointments yet as I’m still in denial (4th). Though I might book my DH in for the snip. šŸ˜‰

Moni81 · 02/01/2023 15:42

Laurapalmer I think we can cross this neural defects off worry list. I know it's hard not to worry, but to be fair in first 3 months of pregnancy there is really not much we can do to influence pregnancy. Just need to think that everything will be fine, take lots of rest and follow your body needs.

Moni81 · 02/01/2023 15:49

Notmulan welcome in the geriatric club then 🤣...I will be 42 tomorrow and it's my third pregnancy after long long break, my other daughters are 10 and 13. I'm dreading to tell my family, waiting for after scan, feel like fish out of wateršŸ™ˆ

laurapalmer22 · 02/01/2023 16:06

@Moni81 The fact that you're not worried definitely makes me less worried, plus that you already have children so you've been through it before! I'm feeling like a total newbie with this pregnancy because, well, I am.

Notmulan · 02/01/2023 16:25

Do you think your daughters will be excited? I think they will be a great help to you too, as they’ll be able to hold the baby and help you to look after it. My children will be excited I think. My own Mother will be appalled. Despite having me at 44, she’ll think this is reckless of me!

Also, I know lots of people on this thread are having different experiences of conception and pregnancy and I realise this must sound so very different and I don’t want it to come across that this is unwanted. It’s not. But it is unexpected, I really admire those of you who have persevered to have children through losses. This must be such an exciting and nerve wracking time for you and I’m hoping I’ll be able to offer a bit of advice from experience. Please bear with me if my posts are tinged with a slight sense of overwhelment on my part.

Being a mother is such a joy and a privilege, and I’ve loved my pregnancies and the happiness of having children. I’m just slightly shocked that it’s happened and scared about my ability to have 3 c sections.

Moni81 · 02/01/2023 16:42

Notmulan my girls already started to search for names lol My 13 year old said how it's even possible at my age 😁 they were both a bit shy when I told them, I think it will hit them when pregnancy become more visible. It's definitely reassuring that they are older and can actually learn something about pregnancy that can benefit them later in life. How old are your children?
I think us older mums, especially when it comes as surprise have more distance and as scary as it seems try not to overthink, what happens happens. As you dread 3rd cc I am terrified of third natural if it happens, as if I wasn't stitched enough already down there lol. Regardless of that I think women after 40 are offered induction anyway, as placenta expires faster and higher risk of stillbirth. So if everything goes well I hope to have August baby too. The other thing is that we should have obstetrician alongside midwife appointments due to age. I only filled up form at GP, having nurse call on Wednesday, then midwife only at 16 weeks, so hopefully scan and maybe doctor appointment around that time. Really lots of changes since I was pregnant last time.

Owlgirl14 · 02/01/2023 16:45

Is anyone else experiencing exhaustion. Im 6 weeks tomorrow and it seems to just hit me at some point in the afternoon where I lie down and instantly fall asleep.

Back to work tomorrow and not sure how I'm going to get through the day without my afternoon nap šŸ˜‚

Moni81 · 02/01/2023 16:58

Owlgirl same here, today I dropped out at noon of an hour snooze, even though I slept since 6 pm yesterday until 7 am this morning šŸ™ˆI'm just over 5 weeks, do yes it's perfectly normal I am afraid

Londongirl87 · 02/01/2023 17:27

I also feel absolutely exhausted! It is my only real symptom at the moment

Notmulan · 02/01/2023 17:56

@Moni81 they are 10 6 and 2. All boys. It’s a noisy house!

@Owlgirl14 not too tired but completely lost my appetite, which is probably a blessing post Christmas

allgoodthings84 · 02/01/2023 18:06

I’m absolutely exhausted too and get worn out when even doing the hoovering! Fun when I go back to work on Wednesday. Tomorrow I’ve got my daughters friend with us all day as her mum works in a school and it’s teachers training day but at least they will keep each other amused. Thinking of taking them to soft play in morning so I can chill with a book then take them for lunch. Trying to minimise time in the house as they make a massive mess getting everything out to play with šŸ˜‚. Got to get the Christmas tree down too.

allgoodthings84 · 02/01/2023 18:07

@Notmulan completely lost my appetite too. I’m constantly feeling nauseous all the time unless I’m laying down which is exactly what I felt at 6 weeks with my daughter too

Moni81 · 02/01/2023 18:07

Notmulan wow that's full hands. Friend of mine had 2 boys and became pregnant ....with twin boys, she was joking it's football team lol. I wouldn't mind another girl myself, with boy it will be a bit of learning for me.

laurapalmer22 · 02/01/2023 18:11

Not so exhausted, but my appetite is also drastically reduced, and I'm having to massively scale back my gym workouts too. And when I go for walks, I feel mildly motion sick, so strange.

Babybear12 · 02/01/2023 18:22

Hey all. Just found out today I'm preggers! Did two tests and both strong positives. I'm about 5 weeks. Wasn't even gonna test because I keep feeling like my period is coming (mild cramps and back pain). This is my first pregnancy so I don't know what to think!? Is this normal??

Notmulan · 02/01/2023 18:37

Congratulations @Babybear12 . Yes it’s very normal. The symptoms of PMS often mimic early pregnancy. Sore boobs, funny moods, cramping , bloating. (Lovely). You can however look forward to glossy hair and a fuller bra soon

shannonl26 · 02/01/2023 18:46

Hoping it’s ok to join in ladies!

im currently 6 weeks & 2 days pregnant, also have an 8 month old baby girl called Alora :)

nausea started today but nothing unbearable, never experienced any in my first pregnancy though! My maternity actually ends this week as I’m back to work on Wednesday. Can’t wait to tell them I’ll be going back off šŸ˜‚

Babybear12 · 02/01/2023 21:03

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm still in shock but excited all the same! Looking forward to the glossy hair for sure

FarmBaby3 · 02/01/2023 21:09

I've never had exhaustion like I had in the first trimester of my first two pregnancies. I'm dreading it hitting while also having two little ones running about.

Owlgirl14 · 03/01/2023 02:24

Not sure how you do it when you already have little ones. This is my first so luckily can rest when I can.

Currently awake as I was in bed feeling really hot but then if I take the cover off I get cold and start shaking even though I'm hot. Got fed up in the end and got up!

My temperature seems to fluctuate between cold/hot. Last night I was cold in bed so kept the heating on longer before bed tonight but now boiling hot. Really don't know how I'll cope come summer. Don't do well with the heat as it is!

How is everyone else feeling?

Moni81 · 03/01/2023 04:57

It could be just initial hormon adaptation. I have it same but not even during pregnancy, can't sleep with heating o, just adding extra layer of cover when getting too cold...but then I'm over 40 so my hormones are expiring probably anyway lol

Other than that just having headaches that comes and goes, breast tenderness, feeling constantly tired and as for now started regular trips to toilet and feeling some pressure down below. Oh and I need to eat more often, no nausea so far. I'm lucky using up holidays for last year in January and February, so will be working just 3 weeks and taking plenty of rest in first 3 months. I hope to get my energy back at some point. My girls are older so hope to get some help too, although I'm not holding hopes too high lol.

Londongirl87 · 03/01/2023 08:40

How is everyone today? Are you back to work, or still on holidays?
I am back to work today but luckily working from home (I only go to the office once or twice a week).

I have been feeling unwell all night with diarrhea and stomach pain and I am now obviously panicking that it might be a sign of upcoming miscarriage, or that I ate something that will cause a miscarriage (I am so paranoiac about food with all the DOs and DON'Ts).

I have been resisting the urge to take a test to check that I am still pregnant because it just feeds my anxiety. The first trimester is so hard isn't it?
