Due 11th March :)

Room4onemore · 24/11/2022 21:11

@TeddyBeans have you watched Emma Willis Delivering babies? I’ve been hooked on that

TeddyBeans · 24/11/2022 21:21

@Room4onemore omg yes 🥰🥰 though I think she's done a new series and I haven't watched that one yet!

OP posts:
CristinaNov182 · 24/11/2022 21:27

I’d like to watch them too, but I hate seeing women lying down trying to give birth against gravity :( so I can’t watch one born every minute, how is the other one?

TeddyBeans · 24/11/2022 21:57

@CristinaNov182 it focuses on Emma learning to be a maternity care assistant so more about technical stuff than the actual births. I haven't watched it for a while so can't say for certain though

AK93 · 24/11/2022 22:38

One more day of work then a week off for me! I’m still trying to make my mind up about maternity leave! Feel like I need help trying to figure it all out. I know I want as much time as possible with my baby but this cost of living thing paired with statutory maternity pay being rubbish is making me rethink taking as long as I want off :( I know I’ll only be entitled to return to my current position which is fairly long days unless they agree to allow me to cut my hours a bit. I don’t think I want my baby (well any age child) in nursery until 7/7.30pm the weeks that I would be expected to do that shift, but not sure how courteous they would be in allowing me to not have to do that as a new mum, plus I think parents are expected to pay until that time regardless whether the child is there or not…something I need to ask about so I can decide whether to have him at my current workplace. I should get a discount on fees but think it’ll still be quite a lot to try to afford!
I was thinking my desired start date for mat leave would be just after Feb half term (due 19th March) but still unsure with only a week to go to decide really!
Sorry for the rambly post just need to express myself and I know I’m not the only struggling with the idea of it all! 🙈

CristinaNov182 · 24/11/2022 22:53

I have a week off and I’ll be taking it at the end of pregnancy otherwise I’ll start maternity leave when I give birth.

This time I can only take 3-4 months off (last time I took a year) and it’s really bringing me down, but at least I work from home and my mum will be here for a while.

last time we had savings, now we have a mortgage and no savings and a child in nursery still so unfortunately can’t take more.

Katlouise24 · 25/11/2022 01:14

Does anyone have any recommendations on whether a moses basket or small swinging crib will be best for the living room during the day? We will have a Snuzpod for next to the bed but wondering about what to get for day time downstairs :)

LittleAcorn20 · 25/11/2022 07:49

@Katlouise24 I was told off by midwife for letting baby sleep in swinging crib, it's very much against safe sleep guidance.
On the odd occasion I did ignore this advice but she made me feel so bad for it that I mostly used the Moses basket or held her.
DD and lots of the baby's I've ever known don't appreciate being put down at all, so don't be surprised if you don't get much chance to put them down anywhere at all. we had lots of options for baby to lie/sit in and it was a frustrating waste of money. She just wanted to be cuddled, held, walked round with and rocked. Something we eventually made peace with and came to love, appreciate the cuddles.
Especially clingy babies/phases they can go in slings as an option if you want to get bits done and find it frustrating that they won't go down.
We had the motorised swing, but it was a waste of time, she preferred our manual bouncy seat type seat (we had a baby Bjorn one which I can't recommend more highly). I know on the Facebook group the other day there were lots of us mum's with multiples agreeing that these more basic bouncer chairs were the better option 😊 baby Bjorn bouncer seat material is super soft and elasticcy so it's like sitting them in a hammock only a bit more upright. i think babies seem to like the way it cocoons them a little bit. It folds very compact and is so lightweight you can easily carry baby in one arm and the bouncer with your other, so we used to take it everywhere with us; people's houses, park, restaurants and cafes.

Dreamingof3 · 25/11/2022 09:57

@Katlouise24 I haven't got anything for the baby to be in downstairs...mostly because, as above, mine have preferred to be held 😂 we do have a swing, which we bought second hand, as I'd like to have to option to put her down somewhere safe when it's needed! Otherwise you can use the carry cot of the pram maybe?

TeddyBeans · 25/11/2022 10:00

We live in a flat now so baby will be on the same floor as me whatever happens. Last time we were living at my parents for 10 months and DS just slept in the pram downstairs. I'm probably too relaxed as a parent though and he regularly went to sleep on the play gym mat or just on the floor 🤷‍♀️ he also loved being a koala baby so he slept on me a lot too 🥰🥰

Katdemar · 25/11/2022 10:54

@Katlouise24

I think the recent models of the snuzpod (3 and 4) allow you to take the crib off the stand and use it as a portable bassinet. One of the reasons I went for it.

Katdemar · 25/11/2022 10:56

Hello,

Long time lurker of this thread! I'm due 4 March 2023, a boy! Currently almost 26 weeks. High risk pregnancy due to age and IVF.

TeddyBeans · 25/11/2022 11:40

@Katdemar hi! I've added you to our list 😊 will post the most up to date one soon!

Babynum2 · 25/11/2022 14:11

We got the tuti bambini next to me upstairs and a moses basket on a stand I got for £10 on Facebook market place for downstairs. I just got a new mattress insert on ebay for it cost me £8. I also have a swing still from my previous I have to dig out of the loft. I would recommend getting something for downstairs 100%

TeddyBeans · 25/11/2022 16:01

I've sent a message to my midwife, I'm not getting a consistent blood pressure reading this afternoon. I've done 3 on each arm. My numbers are higher than my normal so I've asked if I should be worrying about it - I have no idea if I should be taking myself off for tests or not

Left arm 3.45pm

123/85
117/80
106/74

Right arm 3.50pm

118/89
122/87
120/83

Hello!
spent the evening in the hospital but all good - no signs of pre-eclampsia, healthy baby heart beat, BP and no flags for protein in urine either. feeling better and also more reassured!

@TeddyBeans I don’t know anything about readings I’m afraid

Inwas advised by the doctor to check 2x week so will order a monitor today.

we have officially ordered everything on Black Friday sales apart from the monitor and sleep bags 🙌

TeddyBeans · 25/11/2022 19:15

@havanamama glad you're all okay! I called triage in the end and they said as long as one of the numbers is low (my first number is still low -140/90 is high) then it's fine and they won't put me on meds. If both get high together then it's time to worry.

@TeddyBeans sounds stressful.

Did anyone do any black friday shopping? Any good deals? I bought a steriliser but that was it. Felt overwhelmed.

We got given a Joie Seri electric swing chair thing for free (with a fb marketplace purchase) but was wondering do we need to buy a bouncer as well?

TeddyBeans · 26/11/2022 03:52

@Choc2022 having an awfully sore throat and pregnancy insomnia is worse though 😁 why are you awake at almost 4am??

Re the bouncer - I don't think you'll need one as well. DS didn't spend much time in his at all, he much preferred being down in the play gym and able to move about. I only really put him in it if there was noone else in the house and I needed to do dinner or something so needed him nearby to keep an eye on
