I'm old so have been told that I will be offered an induction before my due date as the risk is slightly increased although this is only if my placenta moves up, if not it will be a c section at 39 week's.

I feel like he will come early, not sure why just a hunch.

Babynum2 · 22/12/2022 19:05

@MattyM5 I also have a friend who lost a baby who went to 42 weeks I don't fully understand what happened but she now has a petition for womans placenta's to be measured so I think it has something to do with that.

I know it's not full term but I gave birth to Mt daughter at 36 weeks and she was heathy, 7.11lb and we was home the next day so 37 weeks is good for me 😅

Babynum2 · 22/12/2022 19:07

Everyone I have spoken to who has been induced has had long painful labour's and a lot ending up in Csection so I would really like to avoid it but these things are just out of our hands!

Dreamingof3 · 22/12/2022 19:19

Being induced tends to increase the risk of intervention being needed..but obviously it's sometimes necessary. I think the biggest thing the drs etc need to do is treat everyone on a case by case basis rather than based on statistics
I've had 2 previous c sections so they would like me to have delivered by 39 weeks ideally. I'd love 37/38 weeks, assuming she's healthy, this already feels like a long pregnancy 😂 looking forward to our scan next week to see how she's growing

hellosunshineagainxxx · 22/12/2022 20:04

MattyM5 · 22/12/2022 18:34

@havanamama same! 39 weeks would be the dream. I‘m traumatized by my friend‘s experience - she was overdue and lost the baby 😢 Pregnancy was low risk and everything fine, they just didn’t catch on quickly enough that she needs to be induced. I know that is so rare but it definitely scarred me!
Is anyone thinking of getting induced on their due date if you are not naturally in labour? Is it true that it makes labour more painful?

I was induced at 41 weeks, was horrible would never choose induction again. Having an elective C-section this time as ended in emergency csection anyway lol

Eastybaby19 · 22/12/2022 22:17

I was induced at 36+6 and it was horrendous not gonna lie 😂 I refuse to be induced again so will probs pick section. I ended up with emergency section anyways was induced Tuesday evening and son was born to 5.20 Saturday morning 😑. It was also back to back labour 😬 took 3 attempts to break my waters because he was still early and obviously high up that was nasty 🙈.

My best friend was induced at 38 weeks (1st baby) and she was born within 8 hours 🤷‍♀️ some people get lucky 🙌

TeddyBeans · 22/12/2022 22:38

I was induced last time, it was uncomfortable from the offset and I quickly settled into taking whatever drugs were offered to me to manage the pain. I requested the epidural as soon as I got to delivery suite - there was no way I was going to let them put me on the drip without it when everything had been so painful already. Epidural wasn't strong enough for me so ended up with two fentanyl top ups before he was born.

It wasn't an incredibly long labour compared to some. I went in on the 17th, pessary went in at midnight, waters broke at 3pm ish on the 18th and he was born 5.35am on the 19th. I didn't need any further interventions which was appreciated. I'm happy with my lot and if I end up with a similar labour this time I won't be unhappy about it. I'll just demand to spend more time in the bath during the early stages because it was the only non-drug solution to the pain.

Still, since finding out at my 29 week (28 week officially) appointment that all is well, I am pinning all my hopes and dreams on my ideal water birth. I doubt it'll happen, but I'm hoping!

Does baby moving make anyone else feel really nauseous?

Blocklynn · 23/12/2022 05:52

@dmb91 not nauseous but I do find the pressure really odd when baby turns.

TeddyBeans · 23/12/2022 09:39

@dmb91 not nauseous but I haven't enjoyed it when she strokes my hip. Find that one really weird

Just had my 28th appointment this morning and she seemed pretty concerned about my measurement so I need a scan too. Because it's Christmas they can't get me in anywhere so I need to go in to be monitored this evening. I'm below 5th centile. Has anyone had anything similar and what happened? The ultrasound lady warned me about this at 20 weeks because of my shape and not the baby, but getting myself riled up about it today and not going in until 6pm.

Doesn't help the covering midwife wasn't happy that my usual one had skipped a 25wk appointment straight for 28 today and hasn't booked in my anti-d either

havanamama · 23/12/2022 11:39

@ToffeeEl How many cm were you measuring?
Im sorry you have to deal with that just before Christmas.

havanamama · 23/12/2022 11:40

I was measured today too and measuring 1 week ahead, which the midwife said is totally normal.

Do these measurements actually correlate with how soon baby could come? Am I more likely to give birth early if I keep measuring ahead?

This is all new to me!

TeddyBeans · 23/12/2022 11:48

@havanamama no it has no impact on when they'll come. It's more what weight they'll be when they come

OP posts:
ToffeeEl · 23/12/2022 11:49

@havanamama between 25-26cm she said, I did always think how accurate can the outside measurement be really but suppose it's what they've got to work with.
It's just the faff of waiting! Mind can wander too much then, would much rather be plonked somewhere to wait for a slot

havanamama · 23/12/2022 12:49

Thanks @TeddyBeans !
I’ve got my 1st growth scan in a few weeks, so that should be more accurate

AK93 · 23/12/2022 13:07

28 week appointment today, at my 25w the midwife measuring said fundal height was 27w, this time about 31!!
Will be interesting to see what he looks like and measures on my growth scan next week! I am hoping he doesn't need to come before the date I set for mat leave, but if he does I should get the annual leave back, nor after his due date as a mother's day baby would be pretty special so I've told him he can't go over 😆

(I was already overweight with high BMI before pregnancy so not sure how much my own body affects it, plus probably doesn't help that I've indulged in treats when I shouldn't be!!)

I don't think any of the measuring methods are going to be 100% but might give an idea!

Due March 2023 - thread 5
Dreamingof3 · 23/12/2022 13:07

Fundal height measurements can be off for sooo many reasons, I'm not sure why they even do them tbh 😂
My first was measuring weeks ahead and was still late so doesn't really mean much for dates either. Good that they're getting you in for monitoring though, you can never have enough reassurance I think! Hopefully you'll get a scan as well which are slightly more accurate, although still not 100%

dmb91 · 23/12/2022 14:31

I wasn't measured at my 25 week appointment, was told they don't measure until 28 weeks 🤷‍♀️
I feel massive though despite still being over a stone down on my starting weight

Choc2022 · 23/12/2022 14:57

Im sure my midwife doesnt say anything to me. She measured bump at 25 weeks but didnt say anything, I didnt know anything about sizes at 20 week appointment and didnt know where my placenta etc was. I too dont ask as dont know what to ask until I read here.

I still havent got any 'patterns' with movement. I get what I assume are kicks to the side above my hips/waist in the night but thats it. Any tips on how to 'feel' would be appreciated.

Hope everyone is well.

@ToffeeEl I had my 28 week appointment last week and they were also concerned about my fundal measurement and thought they heard an extra heartbeat from the baby using the doppler. They sent me to triage and for a scan the next day and I was worried sick. But baby is absolutely fine, growing beautifully and said my bump is just small and compact, so no more scans needed. Try not to worry, I know it's hard though especially since you have a little wait.

Blocklynn · 23/12/2022 16:48

My midwife said they don’t measure until after 26 weeks. I know I have put on quite a bit of fat as I’ve been eating like crazy 🙈
so I’d welcome the extra scan if they think I need one but don’t think the fundal measurements are very accurate at all from what I have read.

@ToffeeEl hope the monitoring goes well and you are soon home reassured.

havanamama · 23/12/2022 16:58

I was also measured for the first time at the “28 week” appointment

LittleAcorn20 · 23/12/2022 17:07

Our area doesn't measure til 28 weeks either so I don't think you missed out at 25 weeks.
The tape measurements can be so out, so try not to panic until you know more.
I had extra scan/monitoring in my first pregnancy because baby was coming up small, they were happy with the scan measurement though. DD was born on 8th centile and is absolutely fine just a little dot, even still 😊
The other thing I think is sometimes the higher concern would be a slow in growth. Given they only start the measurements at 28 weeks you've not got multiple measurements to indicate this and baby might just track on 5th centile 🤷‍♀️ I always thought anything within the centile lines was classed as ok and normal. DD from birth has had a height on 0.4th centile (lowest) but they told me because it's always tracked on the same line, it is fine, shes just small compared to others her age. This is measurements earthside though and not in pregnancy so that may make a difference.
You're not silly to feel concerned because it's not nice to be told anything like this when it relates to your baby, but please try not to over-worry you've got the monitoring importantly so just try and remain calm until there are more facts.

Babynum2 · 23/12/2022 22:17

I wouldn't worry to much about the measurements I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead and I'm not even thinking sbout it, it is what it is.

I had my letter today with a date to have my stitch removed can't believe its only 6 weeks away!! I have a feeling baby won't be long after that.
