@iratepirate I’m still plodding along at parkrun but hills kill me off so they get walked

Hi welcome over.
This is baby number 5 for me too. I'm having a boy and am due March 19th

👋 nice to know I’m not the only crazy one ! This is 5 and done!. I have 3 DS 10, 8 and 2 in March and DD who will be 4 in Jun. Kinda like the older 2 and younger 3 🙈 What have you got?

The aim was for me to do a park run. The appeal of they have tail runners and walkers. So I should finish before a walker, just! 🤣

havanamama · 21/12/2022 10:43

Those that also have PGP - is there anything that helps you manage the pain?

I have found that if I move around during the day, then I can manage a 20-30min walk without much pain. However, that night I’ll have significant pain when turning in bed or getting up and walking to the toilet.

If I sit all day working, then it doesn’t hurt in the day, but hurts like hell when walking.

Is there anything other than Paracetamol?
I don’t really want to pump that much medication in me on a daily basis for the next 11 weeks.

Go for it!! Yes there are always people that walk and the tailwalker that stay behind them. Any speed you can go at is encouraged and I’ve only ever seen people being encouraged at parkrun.
I'm marshalling on Christmas Eve and running Christmas Day this week as figured running two days in a row would be too much for me.

Franklin321 · 21/12/2022 13:13

Had my first consultant appointment yesterday, measured 4 weeks ahead on fundal height 🙃 so growth scan booked for tomorrow! Can’t wait to see what she’s measuring and whether it’s her or me on the large side 😂🐳

I was referred to a physio early on because I had symptoms from 9 weeks and we were worried how it would progress.

We've tried all manner of routines and stretches, but finally settled on...

Heat - I use an oat heat pack, sit on it until it's cold, reheat and then pop in my lap.

Massage - gentle self massage of hips and top of glutes. I do get my partner to do this sometimes because it's lovely!

Stretch - child's pose is a great one, number 4 hip/glute stretch, forward fold, cat cow positions.

I've also found that getting up and doing a 'wall sit' throughout the day prevents the pain build up of sitting all day.
As does doing a few mins on the yoga ball.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still uncomfortable/aware of the areas, but I'm so much more mobile than I have been/thought I would be at this point (30 + 6) and don't take any painkillers.

I have severe PGP following severe pelvic trauma and a separation of my pelvis during my last birth - I have crutches - I don’t walk now as it triggers it off and I have got dihydrocodeine and morphine to take when it’s so bad I can’t move or sleep. I don’t take this often tho I’d rather limit my activity than have to take meds. I do the same with paracemteol. Avoid all the things that makes the pain worse so I don’t have to take it x

Also I take short strides, I used to do yoga so I’m quite flexible but I was advised no stretches but I may be different advice due to the severity. I also dress and put shoes on from sitting. These things have all helped I also see a chiropractor and osteopath weekly so I can stay mobile in the house x

havanamama · 21/12/2022 14:50

My PGP pain is in the groin area between my legs. my hips and glutes are all fine. Would the same tricks apply?

botleybump · 21/12/2022 15:05

@havanamama the number 4 stretch and child's pose stretch me in these areas.
I'd imagine the heat and massage would help, just skip the back bits if you're all good there.

Sitting on a floor cushion with the soles of my feet together and letting my knees fall open helps when I get particularly uncomfortable in there too.

botleybump · 21/12/2022 15:06

Forgot to add! I was also told to take a few steps backwards every so often if it started to hurt when walking, apparently it uses muscles differently and tricks the brain a little to prevent the elements of pain that are more psychological than physiological.
Sounds nuts, but it does help!

iratepirate · 21/12/2022 15:53

Tbh I’ve not found that the belt helps me very much at all, I just have to power through the discomfort.
Childs pose and some other stretches helps a little. I haven’t tried heat bags, but that’s a good idea.

havanamama · 21/12/2022 16:23

Thank you! I’ll try a heat bag!

LittleAcorn20 · 21/12/2022 17:54

Wahoooo baby got hiccups in the night last night! I was so excited 😂 29+5 and it's the first time I've felt it with this one 😊 such a funny feeling, bless little bubba 👶!

Dreamingof3 · 21/12/2022 18:54

I've not really found anything that helps my pain. I've been sent videos by my physio dept and invited to a 'workshop' but I've been to one before so not sure how beneficial it will be. I can't sit for longer than 20 minutes or when I get up it's agony. Have to turn over at least 10 times a night which wakes me fully due to the pain so I sleep awfully too 🙄 also finding going upstairs a lot harder as lifting my left leg particularly to go up a step is horrible...coming down is better though! Glad I've brought my maternity forward as once I get through a day at work, nothing gets done at home!

Deut28 · 21/12/2022 19:14

I'd second heat for PGP relief. I spend a lot of the day sat on a hot water bottle with another behind my back. Also have crutches for the bad days. Not much helps though.

Wow you have a busy schedule! Good for you not running both days, people seem surprised I started running when pregnant but I am going at my own pace. Tbf I do it as much for some alone time!

JB2021 · 21/12/2022 22:54

Missed a few posts but pleased to see others are still running. I'm doing my club night once a week plus parkrun.

I've got slower but so far have managed all parkruns under 45 minutes!

Can highly recommend Natal Active shorts!

hellosunshineagainxxx · 21/12/2022 23:23

Jsut tested positive for covid, 28 weeks, not sure how worried I should be really theres not much advice or guidance out there. Not had a booster as nowhere I could get public transport had appointments I had covid very mildly last year so just hoping it will be ok I dont even have symptoms but a friend was positive so I tested just in case

Babynum2 · 22/12/2022 06:11

@havanamama I'm having the same issue with PGP I can't find a balance and I also don't want to take any medication because I'm already on pessary, 2 lots of anti sickness and blood thinners don't really want to add more to the cocktail. Only things that's helped a little is the pillow between legs but still struggling to turn over in night its like an army mission!

TeddyBeans · 22/12/2022 08:05

Never been so glad to be off work. I love the kids I work with but I am sick of being ill. I've had the most horrible cough and postnasal drip for the last week - it's resulted in me throwing up several times. I'm starting to wish my pregnancy away just so I can start feeling better again 😭 hoping for a few good weeks before little miss comes along.

Night times are becoming increasingly difficult here too. It's a mission to roll over so I try not to do it as much as possible. DP finds it funny that he has to help me off the sofa sometimes. Still managing a daily/every other day bath though

Ugh, shame so many of us are struggling physically!

I am exactly 29 weeks today. I think ideally I would like to give birth at 39 weeks, so she’s full term, born in March, but also before the due date as the aches are no fun.

oceanadventurer · 22/12/2022 15:26

I can remember reading a post about baby first aid courses. What was the course someone recommended? I can't find it within the thread now.

Hope everyone is keeping well 💖

MattyM5 · 22/12/2022 18:34

@havanamama same! 39 weeks would be the dream. I‘m traumatized by my friend‘s experience - she was overdue and lost the baby 😢 Pregnancy was low risk and everything fine, they just didn’t catch on quickly enough that she needs to be induced. I know that is so rare but it definitely scarred me!
Is anyone thinking of getting induced on their due date if you are not naturally in labour? Is it true that it makes labour more painful?
