Thanks for all your views on mums in the delivery room!

Deut28 · 17/12/2022 10:28

@havanamama sorry you're suffering with PGP. It's so grim.

Picking up your childcare question, with my first we went to nursery open days when she was 6 months but there were other people looking round with 9 month babies. It was a low birth rate that year and we have lots of options near us though. I know a few local nurseries have been struggling with staffing this year. Might be worth making enquiries about waiting times sooner if you have somewhere in mind.

PeonyPops · 17/12/2022 10:52

Who is ringing you all with results from GTT? I had mine Monday at 9am and haven’t heard either way?

ChristmasJumpers · 17/12/2022 11:11

@PeonyPops I had my test on Wednesday and then had a normal 25 week midwife checkup on Friday. She asked me if I'd had my call yet, which basically spilled the beans as you only get a call if it's bad news! I coincidentally got the call on the drive home. I think the fact I'd already been told hurried things along somewhat

Hi ladies, I had my growth scan today I'm 29 weeks tomorrow baby is measuring small (10th percentile) consultant 2 weeks ago said he was slightly under average but today is alot lower. I didn't have this with previous pregnancy, I'm back next week for another scan anyone had this?

Hi I measured waaay behind with my first baby and was told he’d be 5lb at birth max from scans. Kept having to go for them. He was 8lb try not to worry easier said than done tho. He did actually wear tiny baby clothes tho..he had quite petite features but he was chunky hence the weight haha. It’s hard for them to tell via the scan.

Saying that..I’m 28 weeks and measuring 23 weeks so I know they will send me for a growth scan at my next appointment. My bumps been the same size for the last few weeks. I’m trying not to worry tho as like I said I had this in my last pregnancy. I think babies like to hide in me...not sure where tho as I’m only 5’4 and petite haha! Xx

Blondewave · 17/12/2022 11:43

Has anyone lost thier appetite? I’m 28 weeks and it’s disappeared. I was loving food in second tri..so much so I put on just under 2st..my pre pregnant weight was 8stone and I’m now just under 10 st. I feel like it all piled on in second tri and has now plateaud. Has anyone else found this? Also my bump and boobs haven’t grown for a good few weeks either..😳 I swear I was getting bigger daily at one point now it’s just stopped xxx

Choc2022 · 16/12/2022 23:56

Since I was diagnosed with GTT ive been eating wholemeal toadt with eggs or porridge with semi skimmed milk for breakfast. Some form of fish/chicken with 3/4 small potatoes and salad/veg as side and dinner I usually have rice and some sort of chilli/curry. Snacks jacobs crackers with butter or cheese, ryvita, yoghurt and fruit and squash sometimes and have had the odd diet coke.

Ive not found it as restrictive as I initially thought and went from daily croissant, choc and fizzy drinks. Every so often ill have a bite of DP's chocolate or small bite of dessert. I think pairing carbs with protein and daily walks really help. My readings are very good on days im more active. For me thr spike triggers are carbs like white bread/baguettes.

Been lucky kn that so far its diet controllable but insulin resistance gets stronger as preg progresses I heard.

Wow that’s a good meal. I can’t eat at the moment 0 appetitite. Scary when you do a good diary as you either think omg wow I’m eating way too much or in my case wow that’s not enough 😂 yesterday I had no breakfast..2 cups of tea..a banana..1/4 a falafel wrap (couldn’t finish it was too full) and for dinner a few mouthful of curry. Today so far I’ve had nothing..going to force myself to have some Tomato soup for lunch and then jacket potatoe for dinner. 😳 However I know some women with severe hyperemisis that barely eat and babies are ok as they just take what they need xx

Dreamingof3 · 17/12/2022 12:03

I agree with the suggestion above of the Facebook group for gd...they were far more helpful than the actual diabetes team 😂
Peoples tolerances will vary massively too, I managed fairly well with just diet, cut out all obviously high sugar items (choc, crisps, full sugar fizzy drinks, fruit juice etc) and reduced carbs with meals. Pairing carbs with natural fats helps the body absorb it more slowly so doesn't raise your levels as much. For me the biggest issue was undoing all the info I thought I knew about 'dieting' as you want to have full fat versions of things (cheese, yogurts etc) lots of natural fat and protein is the way to go

havanamama · 17/12/2022 12:10

GTT - no one rang me or gave any news for 2 weeks so I rang the hospital and they told me all was totally normal in my results

havanamama · 17/12/2022 12:11

I’m in a nesting mode this weekend, washing all the baby bits and sorting the house to make room for a 3rd person :)

Baby2iscooking · 17/12/2022 15:18

@Katlouise24 sorry been busy and just catching up. I got diagnosed with pulmonary embolism 2 weeks ago. The only symptom I had was a high heart rate so it was shock to have them find something. I have been put on blood thinners twice daily (enoxaparin) until baby is born and I believe after for 6 weeks too. The doctor said to me as they are small clots they will just absorb on there own the blood thinners help with this and prevent further clots forming. He reassured me that it’s very treatable and everything will resume as normal afterwards. I know 2 other people diagnosed during problems and have been fine still now years on. Hope this gives you some reassurance.

Babynum2 · 17/12/2022 16:18

@Choc2022 I have really really bad HG and I hardly eat everyday I can manage some ryvitas and spread cheese a few nibbles of dinner if it's not saucy and sugar free fizzy drinks. I've had it since 6 weeks and I would say my belly is rather big and I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead. I'm sick up to 10 times a day I was really worried at the start I was stopping him getting what he needs but midwife assured me he is fine and I guess the big massive belly proves it.

iratepirate · 17/12/2022 16:46

My nausea has just never really shifted. Im
struggling to eat much either. I already have some issues with eating so it’s even harder. Exhausted tbh and the weeks just seem to be dragging.

ChristmasJumpers · 17/12/2022 21:37

I really feel for those of you still struggling with sickness 😞 it must be true what they say that baby will take what they need, but it just leaves you feeling even more run down in the process.

GD diet today - Porridge with frozen raspberries (absolutely awful and my levels hardly rose at all so tomorrow I will be putting a little bit of sugar on to test the difference)
Pizza on a wholemeal wrap (I had two wraps and was stuffed so just had some chicken breast as a snack for tea) levels stayed within range so that's good but I had no salad or veg so definitely need to do better!)

P.s. the finger prick HURTS!! But I am a wimp

Eastybaby19 · 17/12/2022 22:34

@Blondewave thank you for your reply, I get scanned every 3 weeks and now I'm back next week and the week after for growth, I seen you post about no appetite I've also completely lost mine (29 weeks) I've only put about 12lb on so I'm just all bump and it is kinda small, where you brought in early when they thought baby was small?

I'm on aspirin this time due to pre eclampsia last time and had Cholastesis I was induced at 37 weeks. Really hoping to be able to go myself this time no induction or section etc 🤞 just hope baby is okay!

Ahhh how big was your baby last time? I had pre eclampsia so was induced at 39 weeks but they let me go about 4 weeks with sky high blood pressure & when my son was born my placenta had totally crumbled and broken up. So just showed what damage the pre eclampsia had done, so this time I won’t be letting them sit around if BP is high. Fingers crossed this times experience will be different for you I hear eating dates from 36 weeks helps bring on labour 💗 xx

Blocklynn · 18/12/2022 09:03

Sorry for everyone still experiencing sickness, that sounds so tough 😞

I had a private scan yesterday at 26+1, baby was not playing nicely, kept moving everywhere, wouldn’t face the scanner and at one point totally turned their back 😂
It was just a standard scan so the lady changed to 4D so we got to see the face 🥰
It was wonderful being able to see the movement and feel it at the same time ❤️

Eastybaby19 · 18/12/2022 09:32

@Blondewave wow that's scary! Definitely if any bp issues towards the end make them act on it!

So far everything is completely different with this pregnancy BP all normal, I was on medication from 18 weeks last time!
He was born 37+2 emergency section and was 6lb 7.5oz! So he was a really good size for almost 3 weeks early!
I really don't want to be induced again so hoping this baby starts to grow and from 36.5 weeks I'll be doing everything I can to get the ball rolling! They've told me I probs won't see passed 39 weeks as they will bring me in so fingers 🤞🤞💗

havanamama · 18/12/2022 15:13

Hi!
had a scary morning - small bit of red/pink blood on the tissue after peeing.
Had not felt baby yet as I had just woken up. Rang the MAC and they said to monitor it, but it might not be anything. Thankfully I have felt baby move as normal since and no more blood, so just keeping an eye on it.
They said if I don’t feel baby or if there’s more blood, then I should ring back and they can see me to check the baby.

havanamama · 18/12/2022 15:13

Has anyone had any bleeding or spotting this late in pregnancy? I’m in week 29.

Cdoc · 18/12/2022 15:58

@havanamama i had it at 27 weeks, it was a big worry (for me due to previous miscarriage). I went in for monitoring and it was a combination of cervical ectropian and irritated uterus. Both of which are common, especially in pregnancy! They told me due to the ectropian there could be bleeding again, so it’s definitely not a reason to panic. Hope you don’t get anymore 🤞🏼

havanamama · 18/12/2022 16:07

@Cdoc thank you!
MAC midwife did not ask me to come in, and I have felt baby move and had no more blood, so haven’t rang back.
My own midwife appointment is on Friday, so I know she will check for UTI in urine test.

Do you have to take any medication for those issues?

Cdoc · 18/12/2022 16:16

@havanamama no worries, I know how much of a worry it can be. They did check my urine and didn’t find anything so were comfortable it was these issues. No more blood is a really good sign! They said how sensitive the cervix is due to all the extra blood and there’s quite a few things (not concerning things) that can cause it to bleed a little bit. Provided it was just a little bit they were comfortable. No medication needed, just to try and not do anything in the 48 hours after that could irritate it more (sex, exercise).

Definitely worth mentioning to your own midwife when you see her but hopefully nothing to be too concerned about 🤞🏼

havanamama · 18/12/2022 17:46

Thank you @Cdoc 😊

Tonight I’ve written a hospital bag list for myself and ordered a few missing bits like dark towels, wash bag, etc.
I feel like there’s constantly something new I read about as a recommendation, so I’ll be taking a carry on 😅

Thirdtimesacharm3 · 18/12/2022 19:11

@havanamama @Cdoc i had this today too. 29 weeks tomorrow. Just after i went for a wee after getting up this morning. It has totally freaked me out as the first bleeding I have ever had in any pregnancy but when I phoned in they said similar to yours that as long as it was just isolated spotting it should be fine. I’m in tomorrow anyway for growth scan and glucose test but have been worrying all day. Thank you for your messages it’s made me feel better!!
