@Splashh I love my mum but there's no way in hell she's gonna be anywhere near that hospital when I'm in labour, I couldn't cope with that!
It'll just be me and DP

Blocklynn · 16/12/2022 08:11

@Splashh just my husband. Not a chance at my mum or mil being there.

Blocklynn · 16/12/2022 08:13

I’m 26 weeks today, less than 100 days to go, feeling so real now!
We unboxed the pram last night, have gone for an Infababy Ultima, impressed with it for being a cheaper option.
Had a midwife appointment yesterday and listened to the heartbeat and we’re going for a private scan on Saturday 🥰

iratepirate · 16/12/2022 08:35

Crikey, I can’t imagine anyone else other than DH being there.
I feel uncomfortable enough having people even look at me most of the time anyway. 😔

havanamama · 16/12/2022 08:42

Husband for me too

PeonyPops · 16/12/2022 08:59

My mum came for my first two but she had my kids last time and will do this time. The room could be full of people for all I care in that moment. 🤣 no dignity and no care at all. Will just be me and OH again this time, he is under strict instructions to stay out my way though. I’m a angry labour person. And I could happily punch someone. I’m going shopping today for last Christmas bits, what’s the betting the diabeties team ring me while I’m in the middle of primark. 🤣

Perexi · 16/12/2022 09:41

I definitely plan on only having my partner there, I feel very apprehensive about the birth as it is and the less people there the better really. I know million's of people give birth etc but I have no idea what to expect.

Dreamingof3 · 16/12/2022 09:58

I've only ever had my partner there but I've had c sections so only 1 allowed anyway!

Eastybaby19 · 16/12/2022 10:31

Hi ladies, I had my growth scan today I'm 29 weeks tomorrow baby is measuring small (10th percentile) consultant 2 weeks ago said he was slightly under average but today is alot lower. I didn't have this with previous pregnancy, I'm back next week for another scan anyone had this?

ChristmasJumpers · 16/12/2022 11:10

I'm having my mum and DH there but it's my first so maybe I'll regret it. I am already worrying about swearing as I NEVER swear in front of my mum 😂

Babynum2 · 16/12/2022 12:41

@Splashh I had mum with me and DH first time but I was clueless and only 18. She didn't make it the second time and I need her to have the kids this time. She wasn't much help anyway to be fair!

Cats23 · 16/12/2022 12:54

Splashh · 16/12/2022 05:54

Guys, can I get your opinion on who you’re having at your birth? My mum wants to be there alongside DH but I think it’s jus going to stress me out more so I said no for now, but I feel bad about it!

Ive only ever had my Dp.
It is ,imo, mine and his experience and v.intimate.
If Dp wasnt there for whatever reason , I wouldnt want anyone but the midwife.
Im close to my mother but would hate her to be there, she hasnt been at the birth for my nieces or nephews either ( I have 3 brothers and they were the only ones in delivery with their wives)

havanamama · 16/12/2022 14:36

I’m having the worst PGP, literally feels like my lady bits will fall out. 😖Paracetamol helps but I hate taking it. Ugh

We are in week 29, and I have got 9 weeks left to work before maternity leave.
only thing left to buy is sleeping bags and more nappies.
nursery is decorated, so just redecorating our bedroom so it’s fresh for the 1st year.

Question about childcare :
I will return to work after 1 year.
When do you recommend starting to look at nurseries? Are there big queues? Should I be already looking and booking?

Rose429 · 16/12/2022 14:56

Just want to update everyone on my GTT.

Had the test this morning and the drink wasn’t bad - like fruity Fanta without the fizziness.

In the afternoon, I received the email from patientsknowbest saying my test result has been updated with all the confusing number. Texted my midwife and she confirmed I didn’t have it! I can eat all I want for Christmas now yayyyy

ChristmasJumpers · 16/12/2022 16:50

GTT results are in for me too. I have it 😭 truly devastated because I am really going to struggle to eat enough food every day with the limits on what I can safely eat without spiking my blood sugar levels

havanamama · 16/12/2022 16:51

@ChristmasJumpers sorry to hear that!

I got my results today too and thankfully don’t have it.

LittleAcorn20 · 16/12/2022 20:29

@ChristmasJumpers I worried about having it a lot and spoke to a girl in my antenatal yoga class who had it.
She recommended a Facebook group called Gestational Diabetes UK sharing advice on what products are good/new stuff on the shelves that happens to be good snacks or meal components for GD. It's a closed group on FB but worth a look maybe for support and advice from others experiencing the same.
It seems you can get it to varying degrees/certain bodies tolerate sugars slightly differently so for the girl I knew she could still manage to eat carbs quite a bit paired with a baby bel or dairylea. There's something about having the fats with the carbs that helps 🤷‍♀️ more info on this group I believe. By testing her insulin levels she found she could tolerate more than what another girl in our yoga group could for example.

ChristmasJumpers · 16/12/2022 20:38

@LittleAcorn20 thank you, I will give it a look. My main issue is that I don't eat eggs, onion, garlic, basically anything that gives flavour to otherwise bland food so it's going to be a few months of very repetitive veg, wholemeal bread, plain chicken and sweet potato! Breakfast I have not a clue about, mine always involves sugar 😳

Katdemar · 16/12/2022 21:30

@ChristmasJumpers
For breakfast what about porridge with fresh berries? You could mash the berries up and stir into the porridge to sweeten it.

ChristmasJumpers · 16/12/2022 21:32

@Katdemar I have bought some frozen raspberries today to try this, hoping it's lovely so I can get used to eating it every day!

Katdemar · 16/12/2022 21:36

@ChristmasJumpers
If you're using frozen raspberries, I put them in with cold oats and milk and microwave for a couple of mins. They defrost in the cooking and are nice and squishy to stir through. (Can you tell this my standard brekkie dish). I make mine with unsweetened almond milk. Hubby then pours a shed load of honey on his, but I think it's fine without and I have a pretty sweet tooth.

LittleAcorn20 · 16/12/2022 21:43

@ChristmasJumpers breakfast would be my worst too I think, and snacking!
So, I had zero risk factors and no need for GTT but kept getting double positive back for glucose in urine. Turns out it's just my ridiculously sugary diet 😬 GTT was clear, but it made me motivated to pack it in a bit, my sugar addiction is awful.

I was eating crunchy nut and a pain au Chocolat for breakfast 🤦‍♀️ but have switched to porridge with blueberries most days. I have honey, but I don't think you could?! Mash up some banana for sweetness maybe?
The other thing I sometimes have is full fat Greek yoghurt and fruit - though I think that feels too summery for a breakfast in minus 8 temperatures 😂 some of the brands and flavours seem very low in sugar, but I don't know what the rules are for GD specifically I just know I've been looking to be more conscious. I think perhaps it has to be plain with GD. But it not, the Rachel's Organic Greek yog with coconut seems one of the lowest.
Snacks, my friend told me the nature valley protein bars are usually ok for GD sufferers as well, so I snack on those now (please check, don't take my word). Nuts are meant to be a good snack in general, but they are soooo boring to eat I think 😬 I buy them with all good intentions and then they go out of date in the back of the cupboard!
Salted/plain popcorn ok for snacks too and dairylea dunkers.

I really need to keep trying to limit my sugar intake where I can so if you come across ideas of good snacks etc shout up!

TeddyBeans · 16/12/2022 21:53

I wouldn't attempt to go cold turkey, sugar withdrawal symptoms are an absolute beast - found this out after an extreme dieting attempt. Try and phase it out steadily

Choc2022 · 16/12/2022 23:56

Since I was diagnosed with GTT ive been eating wholemeal toadt with eggs or porridge with semi skimmed milk for breakfast. Some form of fish/chicken with 3/4 small potatoes and salad/veg as side and dinner I usually have rice and some sort of chilli/curry. Snacks jacobs crackers with butter or cheese, ryvita, yoghurt and fruit and squash sometimes and have had the odd diet coke.

Ive not found it as restrictive as I initially thought and went from daily croissant, choc and fizzy drinks. Every so often ill have a bite of DP's chocolate or small bite of dessert. I think pairing carbs with protein and daily walks really help. My readings are very good on days im more active. For me thr spike triggers are carbs like white bread/baguettes.

Been lucky kn that so far its diet controllable but insulin resistance gets stronger as preg progresses I heard.

ChristmasJumpers · 17/12/2022 07:03

@Choc2022 your suggestions are right up my alley! Minus the curry/chilli but I think for dinner I'll probably have chicken, sweet potato and veg. I also bought wholemeal wraps and might have the odd pizza wrap

@TeddyBeans I didn't think of that! Maybe I should still have my advent choc today 🤔 I know in the past if I've dieter I get awful headaches at the start

First finger prick will be this morning which I'm nervous about
