Hi me and a couple of other lucky ladies have got our BFPs following ivf and wanted to create a new thread for others on their early pregnancy journey. I am 5+2 and my first scan is at 6+6. I’m very nervous something will go wrong.

Currently my symptoms are:

  • very heavy, swollen, sore breasts
  • some morning sickness
  • burping and gas
  • bloated
  • tiredness

Omg why do people say some of this stuff?!
I’ve been told I’m “lucky” so many times when I told people I needed ivf. By people who had children relatively easily! honestly 🫣 also the unsolicited advice!!
my mother in law told us not to get all the baby tests done by the midwife because they can harm the baby! It’s up to us what we choose to do and will be led by the science and experts not by a nosey person with too many opinions 😂😂 I’m definitely more irritable atm 😂😂😂

I told my team at work I’m pregnant today because there are some adjustments that’s need to be made in the office for my risk assessment and I keep running out the office to be sick 😂

my scan is tomorrow. I’m not feeling too nervous. Certainly nothing like the 7 week scan. 🤞 for good growth and a strong heartbeat. I havnt had any bleeding and I’ve got a lot of symptoms (although I know that doesn’t mean much) so im cautiously hopeful. Im counting down the days until Mat leave 😂

has anyone else told their work?

@hopefullsosbry thank you yes it is! I'll be 8 +6 and then I'll book another for 11 weeks I think as my nhs one isn't until over 13! Good luck for yours too!

@Spink2022 ah good luck for tmo and that's nice you told them! No I'm waiting until new year as I've only been there 5 months, we also only go in once a week so luckily haven't needed to but good you've got it out the way!

SunshineAndScience · 08/12/2022 22:22

I don’t get how anyone thinks doing IVF is lucky! Madness!

@Spink2022 I told work a week or so ago just because I wanted to work from home more and I also do a lot of work on site on my own.

I had a really lovely evening with friends tonight, felt a bit festive and excited. Came home and I’ve got a bit of spotting. It’s pale pinky/orange and only when I wipe. I’m terrified. And I feel like I’m getting mild cramps. Can’t get an earlier scan than my one on Monday. I really really don’t want this to be it. Xxx

NS05 · 09/12/2022 07:02

Hi @SunshineAndScience try not to panic I know how scary this can be. I had spotting at 4 and 7 weeks and was only when I wiped it's so common in ivf pregnancies. Lie down and drink loads of water if you can and hopefully it will subside, that worked for me.

So sorry I know it's the absolute worst xx

Spink2022 · 09/12/2022 07:09

@SunshineAndScience i reiterate what @NS05 said. Try to rest but I totally understand the panic as I would be the same. Stay off google! It’s public enemy No 1 in these situations! I think it’s something like 50% of successful ivf pregnancies have bleeding in the first trimester. I hope it subsided over night and you got some sleep xxx

Hey everyone, tried to stay busy this week and have stuff booked in iver the weekend to keep me occupied. Doesn't stop the googling late at night even though I know I shouldn't!

@Quirked how was your scan, hope you're feeling better now.

@SunshineAndScience hope you got some sleep, I can also relate to the anxieties that continue to creep in and out. We just have to remain focused and positive for the tiny bubbas growing inside.

@hopefullsosbry I have honestly had some weird things said to me too, I just try and take them in a positive way. Some people literally have no reference of how hard this whole process is and how long we have likely been suffering in silence for during the TTC years! hey exactly don't know what to say, no reference to how hard it is.

@Spink2022 we told work also, we had told them about the IVF due to isolation periods and appointments etc as our clinic is about 40 mins away. They've been great! A few close friends at work were also really invested in our journey, they've been really supportive too.

SunshineAndScience · 09/12/2022 17:44

Thank you everyone. Have had no more bleeding at all since the tiny bit last night. Just taken it easy, drank lots of water abs eaten well. Just reminding myself it’s common and doesn’t mean the end. Got a busy (but not physically taxing) weekend planned to keep me busy.

Good luck to those with scans tomorrow! Xxx

Quirked · 09/12/2022 18:07

@SunshineAndScience I'm glad there has been no more bleeding recently

@Nerdalert I'm so glad I booked in for the private 10 week appointment last night!! I've had influenza recently and mosr symptoms have been disappearing but all was good with the scan..I'm feeling reassured for now and hopefully this will help others.. symptoms can go up and down.

Another update.. when I was due my first midwife appt I had to chase it (despite them receiving a referral from my doctor) and then eventually got one booked in time. Midwife then referred me for 12 week scan and I haven't had the date come through so I chased it today.. lo and behold the scan hadn't been booked by the hospital despite them receiving the referral! I now have a scan date but it's at 14 weeks! Have a feeling ill have to chase everything. Seems like everyone must just be really busy in the NHS

Hi everyone. @SunshineAndScience im so glad there’s been no more bleeding. @Quirked im so glad you feel reassured from your scan! @habiller would you consider a private reassurance scan to put your mind at ease?

I had a private scan tonight and it was incredible. Baby looks like an actual baby. Ill post a pic. We got 2 videos of it wriggling around and little toes! It’s measuring at nearly 3cm (9+2 which is exactly what I am) so we’ve had a major grown spurt as it was measuring behind before. They showed me the umbilical cord and the placenta! Im feeling very reassured and very pregnant now.

i get a lot of cramping and aching when I need the toilet or I have gas. I think it’s because there’s less room in there. My discharge is also massively varying from day to day. I think symptoms come and go and change to much daily.

I have my first midwife apt tomorrow and don’t really know what to expect. Hoping to have my letter for nhs scan soon.

i hope everyone has a relaxing weekend xxx

@SunshineAndScience glad it's subsided it's all so scary.

@Quirked so happy your scan went well!

@habiller sorry to hear you are anxious too, it's so hard with the spotting but my clinic did say it's super common. I actually just stopped looking at the tissue because it was stressing me out. I thought what good is it doing me anyway and I would see in my knickers if it was anything bad.

I'm super scared for my scan tmo. I only have tiredness and the heartburn has gone it's just reminding me of last time and I'm so terrified. As you all say there's nothing we can do and I know I've done everything I possibly can (even having not one coffee for months 🤪)

Good luck everyone for scans coming up!

NS05 · 09/12/2022 20:25

Omg @Spink2022 how amazing!!!!! So happy for you!!!

NS05 · 09/12/2022 20:26

@Spink2022 also was it on your tummy or internal, want to know what to expect 🤣

Spink2022 · 09/12/2022 20:27

@NS05 thank you. I really hope you get the same at your scan tomorrow. Also if your placenta has taken over your hormones that can make your symptoms go away aparantly so it could just be that!

let us know how you get one. I’ve got everything crossed for you. Xxx

OP posts:
Spink2022 · 09/12/2022 20:29

@NS05 they said they would try external first but I just opted for internal cuz you get a clearer image anyway and they said they may not get the external image and I would have to empty my bladder and do it again internally. It just sounded like a lot of faff and I’m really not bothered about an internal scan. I’ve had loads at this point. 😂

Spink2022 · 09/12/2022 20:32

@NS05 they were absolutely lovely, they spent ages showing my different parts on tv screens and I’ve got images of all the different parts labelled and 2 videos for £10. Totally worth it. I felt really comfortable in there and they asked if I had any questions or anything. It wasn’t rushed at all. It was a totally different experience to the clinic one.

NS05 · 09/12/2022 20:34

Oh thanks so nice @Spink2022 I'm going to a new place tomorrow as my friend recommended and it's only £85 so hopefully they will be good! At least you can relax now and enjoy your weekend!

Miraclesdohappen88 · 09/12/2022 20:35

Hi all, can I join in? I'm 5+2 weeks pregnant following many rounds of IVF. Feel completely alone at the min as it's very early days. My symptoms are cramping, tiredness and sensitive boobs. It's such a rollercoaster of emotions! I've informed my GP re pregnancy hoping for early scan due to previous miscarriage in June.

Spink2022 · 09/12/2022 20:40

@NS05 mine was that price too! The videos we paid for as an add on on at the scan.

@Miraclesdohappen88 welcome to the group. Congratulations on your positive! I hope you find comfort in this group ❤️ everyone here has been really supportive and friendly whatever stage you’re at or how you’re feeling so please know you’re not alone xx

Welcome @Miraclesdohappen88 and congrats! It's such a scary time but hopefully this will be it for you!!

Miraclesdohappen88 · 09/12/2022 20:59

@Spink2022 @NS05 thank you so much for the warm welcome!

It's definitely an anxious time but just got to take it day by day I suppose. Fingers crossed for all the IVF babies 🤞🤞✨

Geordielass91 · 09/12/2022 21:44

Hi can I join your chat please. I've been reading your comments and feel a little more relaxed ( a little haha) I am 5 weeks 2days (I think) test day was last Wednesday following a frozen embryo transfer our 1st round 3rd transfer.
I have had 0 symptoms! Well my hubby says I am moody and snappy haha! Scan booked 21st but it seems like years away hahaha

Spink2022 · 09/12/2022 21:48

@Geordielass91 welcome!! That wait for my first scan was 1000000% the worst part of the whole process. We’ve all got such different symptoms on here and at different levels so I really don’t think you can judge a pregnancy health based on that even though we all get so hung up on it!

tell your husband to just wait until a few weeks time! You’ll be sooo irritable. I shouted at my husband for eating biscuits in an annoying way the other day 😂😂😂 I’ve got bouts of insomnia now at night so he’s been banished to the spare room 😂

OP posts:
Geordielass91 · 09/12/2022 21:58

Hahaha ohh I will warn him he has that to look forward to hahahi know why can't there just be set symptoms so you know haha.

maybebaby2023 · 09/12/2022 22:22

Hi everyone, sorry I've been a bit quiet lately. I'm doing a law degree on the side so between that and work I've been a busy bee. Had an exam today and that's me now finished Uni until into January so I can breathe slightly again. @Spink2022 your scan looks amazing and so clear! It must've been amazing to see 😊I hope everyone else's scans over the next few days go well. I'll be 8 weeks on Monday and have another scan then. Slightly nervous as my symptoms have pretty much all disappeared for a week or so! I am still tired (slightly less so) and irritable but that may be down to the studying, certainly seems to have tapered off somewhat😐
