Spink2022 · 11/11/2022 20:04

Hi me and a couple of other lucky ladies have got our BFPs following ivf and wanted to create a new thread for others on their early pregnancy journey. I am 5+2 and my first scan is at 6+6. I’m very nervous something will go wrong.

Currently my symptoms are:

  • very heavy, swollen, sore breasts
  • some morning sickness
  • burping and gas
  • bloated
  • tiredness

Thank you everyone, you all have really put my mind at ease! Im feeling way more positive than I did after the appointment!

@Ems123456789 the timeline was at the EPAU recommendation, I asked for an earlier one, she said if I have bleeding I could get in earlier but its better for her to have something to measure against, a week gives them enough time to make that determination.

itshimi · 06/12/2022 18:16

@Nerdalert I'm so sorry to hear what you've been through! It sounds like the tech wasn't very experienced, so definitely chase to get the second one quicker. Is there no other tests they can do to know one way or the other?

I've heard of many stories where this happens and later they realise all is well, so better to not imagine the worst case scenario. It's positive that the measurements are ahead of time, so fingers crossed and praying for a positive result xx

NS05 · 07/12/2022 10:57

How are you feeling today @Nerdalert? I hope you managed to sleep ok.

How is everyone else feeling?

I feel quite low today as my tiredness and heartburn have subsided the last couple of days and I feel totally normal. Am getting quite anxious now and hoping all will be ok on Saturday, Uch find this part so tough!

itshimi · 07/12/2022 11:05

Hello, hope everyone is going okay.

@Nerdalert how are you today?

@NS05 Ohh that sounds rough. Can you try and take it easy today? Not sure how it works with your job etc, but hopefully you can take a day to just not do anything.

I had my scan today - it was done at 5+6 because the doctor was meant to be travelling next week. They said the fetal sac looks good, it's in the right place and the cervix is closed (whatever that means). But they said it's probably too early for a heartbeat and couldn't find one. They've asked me to come back again in 10 days for another scan - probably next Friday.

I wish we had just waited until next week because I'm so anxious now. I know 5 weeks is still early and the clinic says it's very common to not see a heartbeat until week 7, but just feeling a little upset about it :(

Hope everyone else is okay and having a good day so far with manageable symptoms x

itshimi · 07/12/2022 11:08

@NS05 actually it might help to keep busy too and not overthink anything. I think the symptoms just come and go, maybe it's a good thing you aren't too tired?

I usually like to just switch off when I'm feeling low but maybe distracting yourself might be a better idea!

NS05 · 07/12/2022 11:14

Oh gosh @itshimi that is so tough but yes I have lots of friends that didn't see anything until 7 weeks so definitely don't take it as a bad thing! I'm sure all will be well if everything was in the right place it's just super early.

Yes my boss is off today so I'm going to go for lunch with my sister. It's so hard as last time I had a MMC at 8 weeks and now I'm 8 plus 3. I know it's unlikely to happen again just need to wait and see!

Spink2022 · 07/12/2022 11:35

@Nerdalert I hope you managed to get some sleep. How are you feeling?

@itshimi i think it’s totally normal not to see a HB at 5 weeks. I think the cervix being closed is your body’s way of stopping infections and is good?? I know when you have a period it opens so closed is good!

@NS05 it’s totally understandable that you will be monitoring all of your symptoms with your history. Saturday can’t come quick enough! What time is your scan?

I called in sick to work today and already feel so much better for it. I highly recommend just taking a day!

Thanks @Spink2022 it's 1.15pm when yours? So nice to have a day to yourself I'm literally doing nothing today whilst my boss is off 🤣

Spink2022 · 07/12/2022 12:01

@NS05 mines 7:45pm! seems so late!

im having such a nice day. Glad you’re taking it easy!

Good afternoon everyone! I did manage to sleep, thank you all for checking in in me. I'm staying with the positives for the time being, I am pregnant til told otherwise. My best friend is a midwife so I sent her all the info I had and she had a chat with the sonographers at her work place. Although they should be able to see heartbeat at 7+4, there are many reasons why sometimes its just not clear (tilted uterus, postioning etc) She has given me piece of mind for the time being and waiting for the early pregnancy team to have a look and tell me one way or another if baby is still growing. ❤

Ems123456789 · 07/12/2022 12:39

Glad to hear @Nerdalert you are feeling okay and great you have knowledgeable people around you.

@itshimi good news it’s in the right place. My sister in law is a sonographer and she said it’s extremely rare to pick up a heartbeat in the 5th week. Keeping everything crossed for your next scan.

@NS05 i know what you mean re changing symptoms. Last week my emotions were all over the place and then I spent a few days feeling absolutely dead and now I feel more wired again. Sometimes I get the fear I’ll turn up at my scan and they will give me bad news and tell me it was just all the progesterone tricking my brain! sounds ridiculous I know. I still have over a week to go so I just have to keep myself busy otherwise I think I may go mad.

itshimi · 07/12/2022 13:06

@Nerdalert that's so great that your best friend is a midwife! And so good to know the possibilities of what it could be. My husband keeps reminding me that if this wasn't an IVF pregnancy we wouldn't even know much before the 12 week scan, so to say that so much can happen that we don't understand but eventually works out to be fine. So just keep the hope and hold tight till the next scan xx

@NS05 @Ems123456789 Thank you so so so much! I'm so grateful to have this group. I keep telling my husband that "this is what my friends have said" 😂 and genuinely it helps me so much as I know we're all in similar situations. The support is priceless to me so thank you so much!

Just waiting for the next scan, but I'll try not to overthink it until then. Today I'm going to eat cake and instant noodles to cheer myself up 😋😋

itshimi · 07/12/2022 13:06

And @Spink2022 thank you! Sorry forgot to tag you earlier x

NS05 · 07/12/2022 13:16

Glad you are feeling better @Nerdalert and good you have spoken to some experts!!

@Ems123456789 yes it's such a rollercoaster honestly you feel so up and down. I've had a few pregnancy announcements this week from friends and it makes you even more desperate to be joining them on the baby train!

@itshimi that's so sweet I love it too! No one else really understands. I've hardly told anyone either and it's so different when it's ivf so much more is riding on it! Def eat what you want itl make you feel better!

hopefullsosbry · 07/12/2022 15:07

@itshimi I also feel so grateful for this group. As you said we were all in the and boat and get that we all have anxieties and worries about certain things, really grateful to all in the this group, so thanks guys 🥰

Nerdalert · 07/12/2022 18:36

@itshimi you absolutely hit the nail on the head! I would not have got through yesterday without this group! So many people to tag I don't wanna miss any one out! @Spink2022 @NS05 @Ems123456789 @hopefullsosbry

My best friend did say early pregnancy is so unpredictable! I think its because we know so much so quickly and like @NS05 said we have so much riding on it, usually years worth x

itshimi · 07/12/2022 18:38

Absolutely! Everyone here is amazing - so supportive and so helpful. I feel so lucky xx

@Nerdalert 100% sometimes we do know too much. Regular pregnancies wouldn't even know if the heartbeat comes in at week 6, 7 or 8, but because we know so much and have SO MUCH to lose, it feels like an emotional rollercoaster every time you hear something that may not be what you're expecting!

Spink2022 · 07/12/2022 18:42

Totally agree with you all about knowing too much! It also makes time DRAG!!

i also reiterate how useful this group
is for support. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve got so wound up by comments people have said in my life who havnt been through fertility issues because they don’t understand so this is a safe space! Xxx

I too really value this group. Like many of you are saying we know so much which makes us unique and we’ve all been through complex journeys which makes us hyper vigilant.

Quirked · 07/12/2022 21:00

Hi all. Hope you're good. it's been a while since I came on here.. glad to see we're all trying our best to positive here.. it is difficult enough not to worry but IVF certainly does make it worse so nice to see how supportive everyone has been.

I'm now 10 weeks exactly. Have had my 7 week scan and my booking appointment with midwife. Haven't had my 12 week scan letter yet so booked myself in for a private one tomorrow evening. It'll help me put my mind at ease (hopefully) as I've had influenza and a chest infection recently. Also hoping to announce to my parents at Christmas but would hate to get their hopes up without having a scan first.

@itshimi seems to be quite common at this stage so hopefully nothing to worry about xx

hopefullsosbry · 07/12/2022 22:52

Omg ! I just chopped some pickle up and wrapped it in two cheese slices .. was soooo yummy ! But I do realised it’s weird af! 😝Lol What’s happing to me haha I want more 😂

SunshineAndScience · 08/12/2022 07:42

Hi everyone. So sorry to hear you’ve had a stressful few days @Nerdalert - will be keeping everything crossed for you!

Im struggling with the coming and going for symptoms and the constant anxiety. Hoping il feel better after my next scan. So envious of those who get a positive test and just get to be excited. Told a close family member about the pregnancy and they were happy but said ‘try and hold onto this one’ which has just made me feel rubbish.

Even if I don’t post a lot, everyone’s support and messages to each other on this page really make me feel much better. You’re the only ones that get it! Xxx

hopefullsosbry · 08/12/2022 09:01

@SunshineAndScience .. Awh it’s really tough, we are so aware of our bodies and every twinge and symptoms .. or lack of twinges and symptoms... I had a friend say to me a few months ago ‘just try not think about it too much’ av also had ‘just have lots of sex’ my answer is always ‘if only it was just that easy’ .. it’s really difficult but I think our family /friends do care but I think maybes they just dunno what the right thing to say is ?!

Hope your ok and try not to worry some get no symptoms at all ? I have sore boobs and a few twinges in my tummy, but av not really had any morning sickness (am 6+4) maybes sometimes ever so slightly queasy but not had that for a while now 🤷🏼‍♀️.. we had a heart beat and everything seems ok ? But I do still worry .. not really had sore heads or anything else apart from fuller /tender boobs and starting at eat weird things lol warmest wishes xx

NS05 · 08/12/2022 10:35

@SunshineAndScience gosh what an awful thing to say! So sorry that happened to you! Well you know I've hardly had any symptoms so am in the same boat! Odd cramps and tiredness but that's honestly all I've had.

My boss is honestly really annoying me this week. I really don't like my new job and am
praying I'll be able to go on mat leave in 6 months and never come back 🤣 my scan is only 2 days away so just praying itl all be ok 🙏

Hope everyone is feeling well 💙

hopefullsosbry · 08/12/2022 17:31

@NS05 good luck for your scan .. is that a private one you booked ? I booked one for 22nd Dec when I’ll be 8+4… Awh hope your work isn’t too annoying and you can stick it out till baby is born 😄..
