Pregnant after ivf - 5 weeks

Hi me and a couple of other lucky ladies have got our BFPs following ivf and wanted to create a new thread for others on their early pregnancy journey. I am 5+2 and my first scan is at 6+6. I’m very nervous something will go wrong.

Currently my symptoms are:

• very heavy, swollen, sore breasts
• some morning sickness
• burping and gas
• bloated
• tiredness

Good evening, I've been quiet this week just enjoying all the crazy changes of being pregnant and the less anxiety after the scan. I have another scan tomorrow then hopefully we will graduate from the clinic! ❤ I threw away all my pregnancy tests too, big step for me, thats what kept my anxiety at bay.

I have been eating whatever makes me feel less sick and what I can stomach. My favourite is the cheese filled tuc biscuits, they seem to settle my carby, salty craving. I also polished of a large bag of kettle chips in one sitting, in a pretty short space of time. Whoops 😁 I have eaten some good meals and lots of bananas and strawberries.

I’ve also just been eating whatever I can stomach. Mainly salty carby foods. Lots of bread, wholewheat pasta, salt and vinegar crisps. Vegetables were making me vomit at one point. I’ve totally gone off sweet food but I can stomach an apple. Absolutely no to bananas and blueberries and chocolate 🫣

@Ems123456789 sometimes eating helps and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m always sick as soon as I get up in the morning. I’ve tried eating before I get out of bed but it’s worse. I’m not convinced anything helps except soda water with lemon and mint and I think that’s because it gets rid of the horrid taste in my mouth.

does anyone’s boobs really hurt? My left one is so painful like I’ve pulled a muscle!

Good luck to everyone for their scans! I was supposed to have my 7 week scan on the 14th, but my doctor is travelling so it's been moved a week early to 6 weeks. I'm a little nervous about it now! I had mentally prepared myself for next week and now it feels a bit confronting. It'll be good to get a look in there so I don't know why I'm so jittery!

Are the early scans external or vaginal? It'll be good to prep myself.

In terms of symptoms I've been okay. A bit hungrier than usual, more tired, more grumpy and have very sore nipples (sorry TMI!) which feel burny and cold at the same time 😕 no nausea really and backache is better.

@Spink2022 omg, yes! I have to wear a sports bra to bed, my boobs are so sore. They have been for weeks but there is no end in sight! If I don't wear a bra I wake myself up when I roll over.

@itshimi my early one at 6+4 was vaginal! Meant empty bladder though 😁

@itshimi good luck with your scan!! Mine was vaginal with an empty stomach.
@Nerdalert good tip thanks!! I’m going to try wearing a bra to bed. If my boob arnt waking me up then in waking up to wee 😂

Just a wee update , I had my 1st scan this morning 6+2 weeks and all seems good so far, heart beat and 1baby, was so nervous driving there! She did notice a wee blood clot in my uterus also but said this is fine and usually just goes away on it own . I hope this will be the case .. 🫤.. but super excited and have booked a private scan in two weeks time just check the process .. good luck to all that have scan today .. and hope everyone else is going good.

I am thinking I will relax a bit more now and eat more variety of foods , av been so scared and only eating really healthy foods , but think I will cave soon and have some things that’s maybes arnt so good, 🤫😂 lol I have been craving chips .. I have been making my own chips with cutting potatoes in the oven but might have a wee bag of chips to celebrate lol

@hopefullsosbry that's fantastic news!!! So please for you! Must be such a relief to see that everything is going well!

My scan is tomorrow, at 6+1. I thought it was too early but the clinic doesn't seem bothered that it's a week earlier.

Definitely treat yourself! That's so good that you've been super healthy. I've been trying my best too but sometimes I get so tired, I just eat what's easy (which is usually not particularly healthy) xx

last night I slept 8pm until 1.30am when I then proceeded to get up and get a biscuit and yoghurt out the fridge and sat there watching a film until 4.30 - whilst dipping my biscuit in the yoghurt! So weird.

after a few more hours of dozing I am a zombie at work today!

@itshimi @Ems123456789 .. thanks 😁 yeh I wasn’t to bad the 1st few weeks as wasn’t really wanting any junk food .. but the last week I have been feeling it more, still not really wanting anything sweet just chips really lol 😂 that’s funny with the biscuit and yogurt .. if it tastes good then why not 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I've been getting pains in my left side today almost like a constant stitch 🤦‍♀️ hopefully it's just stuff stretching. Only 4 more days until my next scan 🙏

@Ems123456789 yoghurt and biscuits 😂😂 i can totally relate to being awake in the night and a zombie at work. I’ve been soo tempted to go off sick

@NS05 im eating whatever rubbish I can stomach too. I’ve also been getting some pains on and off. They come for a few days then stop for a few. I also find if I suddenly move or twist I get a sharp pain. I think it’s quite normal with all the growth.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m so rough but I’m not at all anxious for my scan Friday! I’m not even counting down the days! I just don’t think I’ve got the energy to worry about it. Or maybe I feel more confident now I’ve had a scan and I’m getting a million symptoms?

So our scan today didn't really go as planned. We had our 2nd scan, hoping for further confirmation, I'm 7+4 today and she wasn't able to find a heartbeat. After last weeks scan we had a heartbeat but it was in a funny position so wasn't able to register the pulses. I have been referred to the EPAU, they have me in next week to check! Im trying to be positive but the referral letter does say suspected MC. Likely no bleeding due to progesterone, and I still have all signs and symptoms of pregnancy. If anyone has any miracle stories, I'll happily take them. I have been on Dr Google so I have realistic expectations! I really hope I don't make anyone else more anxious than I know you all are. I just haven't had the courage to tell anyone yet. ❤

Omg @Nerdalert I'm so so sorry to hear this? Did they say the baby was measuring right and they just were unable to see the heartbeat as I know it can be difficult to find sometimes?

With my MMC it was measuring 2w behind and no heartbeat so was also the size.

I'll be praying for a miracle for you, I'm so sorry this is happening.

@NS05 she was pretty uncertain as to what was possible baby and possible artefact on the scan. She was pretty uncertain throughout. What she did measure at the beginning was at 7+6, and im 7+4. I really need to stay positive but after everything I know better. She took lots of images so just gotta keep going one day at a time til next week with EPAU.

@Nerdalert that feels like such a long wait. Did they say why you had to wait so long?

@Nerdalert oh if it's measuring ahead surely that's a good sign! She could've just been super inexperienced and may not have seen it. Could you book a private scan for tomorrow just to put your mind at rest?

@Spink2022 they said if it is still growing and was in a funny place then give it time to grow and move again. But if it was a MC then to give time for it to come away naturally and or then the measurements will be compared to today.

@NS05 to be honest I hadn't even thought about it. Might see what my area has.

@Nerdalert it sounds like with the size and funny position all is not lost.

hopefully you can find a private clinic locally to put your mind at ease

I am so sorry to hear this @Nerdalert especially as you’ve still been having all the symptoms but don’t know the outcome. I can imagine it’s a real headfuck. I will keep all my fingers crossed for you for Tuesday. You could chase the EPU for cancellations? Things move around in that unit all the time. But I appreciate that you may also want to give it time.
