Hi, mums! Do you know if there is a colostrum bank in the UK? I will have c section on Monday and i am afraid I may not have colostrum. I have adaptil and kentamil ready formula but I really want to give the baby colostrum.

TradedAtlanta · 19/11/2022 15:27

@Vg92 not sure, but you could try harvesting some colostrum over the weekend in 1ml syringes and freezing. Try after a warm bath or shower. You can Google technique. If never little comes out/none at all it isn't an indicator that you will not be able to breastfeed. Is there any reason to think you wouldn't have colostrum?

I’m in hospital. Waters broke yesterday afternoon and contractions started overnight. We’ve been here since about 6am but still no baby!
Had an epidural and it’s been lovely! I’ve been napping all afternoon while having contractions! Hopefully baby will make an appearance soon!

Vg92 · 19/11/2022 17:42

@TradedAtlanta I am having a c section on Monday at 37+ 6 because the baby is small. I tried a few time harvesting but nothing came out. I just want to be prepared as much as can.

JC84 · 19/11/2022 17:57

Oooh exciting @Laughingmole hopefully not much longer
Hope all goes well for you!
Keep us posted

Bluebonnet3 · 19/11/2022 20:04

Good luck @Laughingmole !!!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 19/11/2022 20:24

@scottishmomma I'm 34+5 and feel like baby is right on mu cervix. Had so much pain with BH Tues I was worried I was going into labour!
Everyone telling me this is normal so hopefully is for you too!

Sdoubleyou · 19/11/2022 20:59

So exciting @Laughingmole!! I hope the birth goes smoothly! First baby on the thread! ❤️

I'm 36+4 today and yesterday was my last day of work. I'm feeling better today but have been really all over emotionally the last couple of weeks. I love my job and my team and we have some really interesting things coming up. Wish I could multiply my time to be able to work and take care of baby properly. Do I sound nuts to be so anxious about not working for a year?

JC84 · 19/11/2022 21:52

@Sdoubleyou I know how you feel! Christmas is a multi million pound business for us, I've a couple of things to finish off from home but I finished on site Tuesday. I've done all I can to prep the guys whilst I'm away I just hope I have a job to go back to! I'm aiming for August/Sep return atm if we can sort the shared parental leave as my partners business pay more weeks at full pay!

Laughingmole · 20/11/2022 08:50

Thank you everyone. We ended up with an emergency c section just before midnight as things weren’t progressing and his heartbeat was dropping. But he is here and so worth it! Absolutely perfect 💙💙

Laughingmole · 20/11/2022 08:52

@Vg92 I wasn’t able to harvest any colostrum but baby boy latched on perfectly last night and fed well. I managed to get some out in the syringe this morning too. So don’t worry. Your body will produce it after the birth xxx

JC84 · 20/11/2022 09:05

Yay! Congrats @Laughingmole !!!

Laughingmole · 20/11/2022 20:41

He was 7lb 7 so nowhere near the ‘big’ baby they were predicting! But he also didn’t need inducing, he decided it was time to come 2 weeks early. So full term, might have been bigger!

@Sdoubleyou I completely get how you feel. I absolutely love my job, especially the people. My office has kept me incredibly sane throughout my pregnancy and I’m having total imposter syndrome when it comes to my maternity cover. Interviews for it are on Friday.

Jaaxe · 21/11/2022 08:07

@Laughingmole oh he’s absolutely beautiful, congratulations, how lovely, enjoy your newborn bubble and hope you’re recovering ok xx
