Congratulations @i83! Your little man is beautiful, and I hope you’re feeling okay.

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 30/03/2023 22:52

Congratulations @i83! We're a couple of weeks into our NICU journey if you want to message me with any questions. The NICU nurses are incredible though so your little man is in good hands.

Blue2020 · 31/03/2023 07:25

@i83 congratulations.

Congratulations @i83 !

raffika · 31/03/2023 20:57

@Myotherusernameisaferrari I hope you and your babies are doing well!

has anyone else got the dreaded cankles? I’m 34w and they’ve appeared, but showing no signs of disappearing - I wasn’t expecting to have trouble with footwear this early! (My midwife is happy it’s just normal swelling, and nothing to worry about, but has warned me about any changes which would concern her).

SEMama2022 · 01/04/2023 10:29

not posted, but looking for a hand-hold. Just over 33 weeks and baby has dropped to 2% - he’s never been more than 7-10%. Dopplers are good. First baby was small but not this small! Got a scan next week and then perhaps steroids and early c section if he doesn’t grow. All super stressful and advice is not to stress!

raffika · 01/04/2023 19:16

@SEMama2022 I’m sorry to hear you’re so worried. One of my friends recently had a baby at 34w after several weeks of worrying scans, limited growth etc. Baby was very small, and is still catching up, but they are well after a short stay in neonatal. Babies born at 34w onwards have the same statistics as babies born at full term - things will work out, even if the journey isn’t quite as you expected.

Appleby11 · 01/04/2023 20:31

I'm wondering if anyone could help with some questions regarding midwife appointments? I'm 32 weeks and have never heard the babies heartbeat, and haven't been weighed since my 12 week hospital appointment. Is this the normal process for appointments? I'm sorry to ask if these are daft questions!

OptimusPrime31 · 01/04/2023 20:39

@Appleby11 I'm not sure about the heartbeat but I read that they only weigh you at 12weeks and then not again- unless they're worried about your bmi and then they do it more regularly.

raffika · 01/04/2023 22:08

@Appleby11 ive not been weighed since I first saw my GP at 6 weeks to be referred to antenatal services (which is the process where I live). However, I have heard the baby’s heartbeat at each of my community midwife appointments (3 so far, I’m now 35w). I suggest you ask your midwife about it at the next appointment.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 01/04/2023 22:27

@Appleby11 I have never been weighed this pregnancy but have heard the heartbeat via doppler at every appt. Has the midwife listened to it but just not let you hear?

Northby · 01/04/2023 23:32

I was weighed at 12 weeks. I’m part of a clinical trial so I’ve been weighed one more time since then but not as part of routine care. In all my scans they have repeated several times that they don’t listen to the heartbeat anymore as it’s not clinically significant. So I wouldn’t worry if you haven’t, but if it would be nice then do ask if they can just let you hear it!

Leostratts · 02/04/2023 04:08

@i83 Congratulations!!! He’s lovely xx

@Appleby11 I was scanned at my first appointment but since then, only randomly at my last midwife appointment where I was 34 weeks. Heartbeat I have heard by Doppler every appointment!

Leostratts · 02/04/2023 04:13

@raffika With my first, I had awful swelling. But it started early from around 24/25 weeks. I went up 2 shoe sizes and my legs were also swollen. My midwife at the time wasn’t worried, each time I showed her. I was also suffering nose bleeds regularly and horrendous heart burn every day. Suffice to say I ended up with pre-eclampsia and HELLP. But if yours is mild, only on your feet mostly and everything else seems fine (no headaches? Protein in your wee? High blood pressure?) I wouldn’t worry too much, unless you are, get checked out :) I have none of what I experienced last time, this time.

Leostratts · 02/04/2023 04:19

As you can tell by the time of posting - I have pregnancy insomnia.

I'm suffering with my hips a lot but compared to my last pregnancy I can’t complain at all.

I’m 35 weeks now, baby no longer breech, placenta moved out of the way - so far, all looking good for a VABC.

With only less than 1 week to go where my first was born (36 weeks) I definitely feel nervous. Especially with my first little ones birthday being this week and his party this weekend. Im praying I have at least a weeks clearance of all of that before this one comes!

I think I’m growing an acrobat, it moves constantly, even family, friends and health professionals have commented on just how active it is! Here’s hoping it doesn’t keep me up all night once it’s earth side - I was blessed with a good sleeper for my first 🤣

I hope everyone else is well.

@Appleby11 I meant weighed, not scanned! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

Appleby11 · 02/04/2023 07:47

Thank you everyone! My midwife only works one day a week and there's been a few things she's not done. So I wasn't sure what else hadn't been done. I have a hospital appointment with the consultant this week so will be bringing a few things up. Especially when I don't know when I'll be next seeing the midwife 😂 everything is going well, it's just peeing me off that I'm having to chase her up to do her job.

raffika · 02/04/2023 21:31

Thanks @Leostratts the midwife checked everything for pre-eclampsia so I’m not worried about that, I just didn’t expected cankles until the very end, they make footwear a challenge! On the plus side, I’ve made a point of lots of sitting with feet up this weekend and everything is mostly normal sized again, so rest really is the key!

buuuka86 · 03/04/2023 06:56

@Appleby11 I haven't been weighed since my 12w appointment either. With the heartbeat, I mine told me we might not be able to hear it but it worked every time. I think they just try to make sure you don't panic if they can't find it.
