First midwife appt today, then official '12 week scan' next Wednesday. Things starting to happen, just crossing my fingers it's all still going well.

lmw88 · 31/10/2022 07:32

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl good luck with appointment today. I'm back in for another scan next Wednesday. I didn't realise measuring 3 days less would make such a difference on a scan but apparently it does so back to see hopefully a not so fuzzy baby. Make sure and drink lots before it, I was given more water to drink and it really made a difference in scanning

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 31/10/2022 07:53

Hi @Aliceinwonderland5 I'm DCDA - despite knowing for about 5 weeks now, I still think I'm in shock haha

Mayhavingbabyinmay · 31/10/2022 09:16

Hii I'm first time, with my 12 week scam tomorrow. Absolutely bricking it...

lmw88 · 31/10/2022 10:56

Anyone starting to struggle with constipation? I'm 12+3 and only seems to be becoming an issue.

Melusina123 · 31/10/2022 10:57

@lmw88 yes 😳

Eating lots of prunes.

TheBeesKnee · 31/10/2022 12:01

@lmw88 yessss it's very annoying. I feel so bloated and horrible. I already eat a lot of fruit so I feel particularly hard done by!

I've started eating fruit and bran for breakfast and I think I will start taking psyllium husk tablets 😠

lmw88 · 31/10/2022 12:04

@Melusina123 @TheBeesKnee thanks for the advice. I mean I've eaten so much at the weekend and wondering where it's all stored 🙈 I too eat a good intake of fruit and veg, fruit juice in morning and high fibre cereal. Trying to up the fluid intake as well.

raffika · 31/10/2022 16:03

@lmw88 I’ve had a bit of that. I found the best cure was a 50g bowl of supermarket brand All Bran with milk for breakfast, kept things moving!

OptimusPrime31 · 31/10/2022 16:07

I take Fybrogel for a few days and that seems to work. It tastes grim though!

RugbyGirl1 · 31/10/2022 17:02

Had my 12 week scan today and everything seemed fine - the little nugget wouldn't stop moving! Quick sigh of relief until this evening where I've just been to the loo and wiped a tiny bit of pinky / red CM, just like a tiny little dollop (sorry TMI). Any idea what this could be? It seems unfair to feel happy and confident in the morning then worrying all over again by the evening!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 31/10/2022 18:13

@RugbyGirl1 honestly, pregnancy just irritates the cervix so I'd say that!

lmw88 · 31/10/2022 19:55

@raffika will try the all bran thanks.

raffika · 31/10/2022 20:13

We’ve got our dating scan tomorrow, feeling excited and nervous!

Is anyone starting to think about child for if/when going back to work? I know it’s early but there’s a massive shortage of provision for under 2s where I live, and we can’t afford to live on one wage (even after childcare costs), so I’m starting to look. I’ve got a short list of 3 to visit (one nursery and two childminders) who could do what I will need. I’m struggling with the choice of nursery vs childminder, and which is best for a young child. Does anyone have any wisdom? Or is it just finding somewhere you’re comfortable with, whatever their label?

may111 · 01/11/2022 08:09

@raffika I've a almost 3 year old and he went to nursery for a few months then we sent him to childminder because of such a big cost difference. I find childminder great! He loves it there, I think you'll be able to make a decision once you visit the nursery/childminder

lmw88 · 01/11/2022 10:59

How's everyone feeling this week? My symptoms have massively settled the constant nausea almost a distant memory (I'll probably jinx myself) but also does create that level of anxiety as symptoms are reassuring. I have been reading and it appears pretty normal for symptoms to subside. Got a call this am that my ferritin is low so have to start the dreaded ferrous fumarate 🙈

Flowersflowers121 · 01/11/2022 11:29

Good luck with your scan @raffika !

My nausea also seems better today for the first time in foreverrrrr haha hoping I'm not also jinxing myself.

Hope everyone is good :) next midwife appointment isn't until the 14th Nov where I have to have my bloods done again for the rhesus negative stuff. Boo.

@raffika good luck today x

tiantian1005 · 01/11/2022 12:33

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same, my nausea and tiredness seems to have reached a different (much worse) level after 13 weeks. I feel way worse than 1st trimester.. Trying to take this as blessing but I was assuming the nausea will go away after placenta took over? I guess i will always found sth to worry about.

Summerbreeze111 · 01/11/2022 14:41

Hi all
Checking in for the first time!
I am due May 25th and have my first NHS appointment 11th November which I'm really worried about (despite having a good private scan last week!) Does anyone know if you have blood tests if you opted in for the abnormality checks? (Had blood tests at 8 weeks)

Also is there a Facebook group I could join?

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 01/11/2022 14:46

@Summerbreeze111 not sure what you mean about blood tests for abnormalities? At booking in my healthboard they check hiv, syphilis, hep status, iron, a few diseases in your blood taken at booking appt. They also check your blood type.

After the 12 week scan if they see anything suspicious they tend to offer screening for genetic conditions then?

Melusina123 · 01/11/2022 15:54

@Summerbreeze111 they sent me off for my screening bloods straight after my 12w scan. I think they try to do them as close together as possible. This was in addition to the bloodwork they did at the booking appointment a few weeks earlier. HTH!

Yeah, I had my screening bloods taken right after my 12 week scan and results within about 5 days which was good!

Thanks @IWillBeWaxingAnOwl the CM turned in to full on red blood when wiping last night. Had a full meltdown, it was such an emotional mindfuck after a positive scan only a few hours earlier. Finally got to sleep and today, there's nothing at all.

I had been on progesterone which I stopped at 12 weeks (the day before, Sunday) and had had my 12 week scan that day - I wonder if it's either a drop in progesterone or just a bit of extra pressure from the scan causing my cervix to bleed a little? Have text the midwife but she only works part time so not sure when I'll hear back

raffika · 01/11/2022 17:50

@lmw88 Thanks for the good wishes!

So our dating scan went well. It looks as well as it can for this stage and was wriggling nicely. My dates have altered slightly - I was 12+4 on paper but measured at 13+1, which gives me a due date of 8th May. It was lovely, can’t wait until the next one!
