Didn’t realise there was another thread 😂 just gonna post my 14 wk updates for anyone who can relate (15 weeks tomorrow)

Got my screening results back after ringing them (still haven’t got the letter 2+ wks later) and baby is very low risk
Getting sharp pains (fanny daggers I’ve seen them called 😂) but I’ve read these can be normal so not too worried.
This is the longest I’ve been without any spotting (touch wood) - no spotting since 11 wks
Still concerned about not showing or being able to feel my uterus and paranoid about MMC but I’ve got a scan next Sunday at 16 wks and if all goes well I’ll hopefully be finding out baby’s gender
Haven’t ‘announced’ my pregnancy yet, I’m planning on doing this after 20 weeks (if I do at all) but I have told close friends, close family, some work friends and my bosses
Sickness doesn’t seem to be easing although I feel I can go longer without eating, I can drink fizzy drinks again (they burned my stomach before) and my appetite is about 75% back so life is a bit easier

Is anyone opting for another private scan before their 20w one? I feel like 15/1/23 is ages away and keeping toying with the idea of having one a couple of weekends from now.

I've completed the online booking a few times but not actually processed the order as £65 for a 5 min scan seems so much, especially now with the cost of everything.

I'm so undecided 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes I have one next week, I’m hopefully finding out the gender. My mum is coming with me and she’s very excited despite me being absolutely terrified of MMC
Mine is £65 too. There were cheaper ones near me but I went for a diagnostic scan so they can pick up any issues with baby

I think I’ll probably ask if I can have a midwife appointment at 16 weeks so that the heartbeat of baby can be checked with a hand held doppler. This is what my consultant suggested when I said I am too nervous to wait till 20 weeks before next scan….

@Veryxonfused I had those lightening dagger type pains in my first pregnancy. They used to catch me off guard !

I am absolutely wiped today. Queasy and exhausted. 11 weeks today. I thought I was over the queasiness and this exhaustion is next level. We got all the Xmas decs down at 9am and they're still sat in boxes, just can't face it. Took little man to a grotto and just wanted to sleep Zzzzz

@Veryxonfused, not the dreaded lightning crotch! 😬 Lucily I haven’t had this yet, I’m sure it’ll come eventually though. 😅

The scan I’m looking at is £65 for a standard scan of 5 mins - I don’t think I’d mind the cost as much if it was diagnostic.

@BobbySD345, I’ve had quite a productive day and just managed to get the tree up and a few small decorations. I have felt absolutely exhausted before these last couple of days; I’m 14 week now so hopefully you’ll have more energy soon! 🤞🏻

@BobbySD345 my EDD is 26/06/2023, however I’ve got my dating scan on 14th Dec - the anticipation is excruciating 🤣

Crazy - my EDD is 26/6 and my scan is also 14th Dec! 😂
We're also in the few who won't find out the gender before Christmas 😥

@B1993 I'm also having a gender scan a couple of days before Christmas 🎄 Going to reveal to everyone on Christmas Day! Although I'm already 95% sure it's a boy from my 12 week scan. Timing was just too perfect not to find out in time for Christmas!

Zaalfruit · 04/12/2022 05:37

Oh I’m so jealous I want to get a scan done before Christmas!

Is it bad that I keep wishing December to be over so it can be scan for my 20 week scan ?

@Veryxonfused sympathy for you ! Fanny daggers are the worst . Even thinking about it makes me want to cross my legs.

(It’s so strange I was only pregnant two years ago but I can’t remember when I started feeing kicks - eager to feel kicks 🦵)

@Algor1thm, I've still not decided one way or the other yet! 🙈

A Christmas reveal is so exciting! 😁🎄

@Zaalfruit, could you have a private scan before?

RE kicks, I've felt some 'movement' recently that feels suspiciously like those early flutters but not sure if it's actually baby or gas 😂 I feel like it's too early at 14w but do know people tend to feel their second earlier. I think I was around 17-18 weeks when I felt my first, so it's definitely a possibility that it is baby! 🥰

I felt movement in my first pregnancy from 15 weeks, and have been feeling some movement with this one since 13 weeks, so it's definitely possible 😊

Hey gals! I'm trying to be a bit prepared and thinking of things I might look out for/buy in the new year. Does anyone recommend a baby swing? 7 years ago there was only the mamaroo but there are loads now. Looking to get a camera etc for baby room. A good nappy bag, baby carrier. The list is just getting bigger and there's so many options now since my last child! Oh gosh forgot about the minefield of car seats, and I want a quick and practical pram. This is my last child and I'm having to get everything as I gave everything away after my last thinking that was my last and we moved house so didn't want to keep things.

I'm getting alot of things like swing, monitors for the room, baby carrier of marketplace, with my first I spent an absolute fortune on buying everything brand new and half of it didn't get used. Things like a baby change unit I don't think I ever used as I would always have a mat upstairs and downstairs.i still have my pram and car seat from my first whi h is a silver cross pioneer (which I've seen to buy new now cost best part of a grand!) and I was always very precious with my pram so its still in perfect condition. Can't wait to baby clothes shop tho

@Algor1thm, thanks for that! It's been around 4 years since those first movements with my first to hard to remember exactly what they felt like and when I first felt them!

B1993 · 04/12/2022 09:48

@tigerlily0, I kept most things from my first so won't be buying much new except for clothes - I had tonnes (literally hundreds of every size) - so I got rid of athose because they took up so much space!

I had a bouncer but not swing so will probably get one of those this time around. I also want a bedside crib; we used a Moses basket last time and I remember it not being ideal so I'll have that for downstairs instead.

I loved my travel system - iCandy peach with cycles cloud z car seat. I spent a lot of time agonising over it but settled on that and didn't regret it. The car seat lies flat in the pram so you don't have to worry about baby being in there 'too long'.

@Hlc86, good shout looking for second hand bits! I might start looking for a swing on there, too, rather than buying new.

I also want a carrier. I've been looking at the Cybex Maira Tie big does anyone else have any good suggestions? I know there are libraries you can visit to try them all on, but I don't live near to any and the long journey doesn't quite seem worth it!

Definitely buying a next2me crib this time. The crib we had for DS was so impractical. Moses for the lounge downstairs is a must too. We have the Nooie 360 camera off amazon and its amazing. You don't get a monitor, you just download an app. Only 30quid and worth every penny. Trying to think what else to recommend from last pregnancy. Travel system pram definitely handy for newborn although you can now get newborn bassinet that click into car and onto pram which look good. We have the iCandy Peach Twilight and I am just buying new hood and upright seat fabric because we kept it in really good condition so the frame is fine !
Swing/rocker we are tempted by the mamaroo this time, anyone else got some recommendations?
Oh and a sleepyhead is amazing for settling baby. Think you can get cheaper versions called baby nests.

Yea with my first I bought Joolz day pram set which cost a grand, and we rarely used it for both kids cos i find it so big and chunky, still have it and great condition. We bought a solid wood mamas and papas cot set wardrobe and chest of drawers with changer on top, which was also extortionate but we got really good use out of it with both kids, the changer was great for us. Sold that on.
Had a normal bouncer which worked well for the kids but want a swing this time, I bought my sister a next to me crib last year so she's letting me have that. We had a jumparoo which was so good my kids loved it, will wait to see if I get another for this baby. Definitely want a carrier this time there was barely any option all them years ago and now there seem to be loads

I loved the next to me ! It was my favourite purchase . After that I used the bjorn baby carrier for the first 6 months. Due to lock down I didn’t bother getting a buggy till she was about 5 months so I didn't get the bassinet for the buggy. Having the kids close together basically means all I need to buy is baby clothes and nappies.
I brought a basic bag from Amazon to use as a baby bag and it was perfect. This time I have decided to bottle lead as breastfeeding was mentally draining. If anyone is thinking of breastfeeding I got the medula double pump and I loved it . I originally had the Elvie pump but it leaked a lot , so wasn’t right for me.

My DD will be turning 8 when this one is born so we've thrown all her stuff away! Never thought we would have another.

From first I'm considering a pram travel system with a bassinet, a swing or bouncer, next to me crib, highchair from birth. Love the idea of that baby nest/sleepyhead, looks great. DD refused a crib and only slept in her bassinet. Crib went unused fully! I wonder if we had a sleepyhead in the crib it may have helped DD sleep. The from birth highchair was a godsend of a place to put her whilst we made her bottles in the middle of the night. I will not be buying a changing table however. Complete waste of money I found.

I caved and bought the perfect prep machine again. DH loved it last time and says he needs it again 😂I suppose he'll be doing bottles again this time so I've treat him to it. I couldn't breastfeed with DD due to amount of antibiotics I was on, likely to happen again with this one, so it'll be bottles again.

I've seen the Sleepheads, too. Am I right in saying they aren't recommended for use when you're not watching baby i.e. night sleeping due to risk of SIDS? I think they look great but if you can't use them at night, wondering if the high price tag is worth it?

Report
BellaTheDarkOverlord · 04/12/2022 21:23

@B1993 Ahh didn't realise that. That does seem a bit pointless if I can't use it at night too! That's when I needed baby to sleep 😂

@BellaTheDarkOverlord The prep machine is an absolute god send !! I had a friend who had the night time one (which i think is just a tad quieter...so noisy arent they) in their bedroom for night feeds which I always thought was a good idea. Maybe less of an issue for a spring/summer baby but I used to freeze going downstairs in the winter 4 times a night !
I am going to look at the newborn bassinet/bouncer to high chair thing this time round. My friend had one and it looked great. We used a bouncer on the dining table while he wasn't moving but with a 3 year old around, not so safe this time around !
We never bothered with a changing table and I'm glad we didn't in the end as DS couldn't lie flat really due to reflux and as soon as he could stand we have always changed him stood up.
Also got my eye on that Nuby thing you take out and about and it makes perfect temp bottles as that is a battle when theyre screaming the shops down and its too hot !! I think it's new. My friend got one when she had her little boy in Feb.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a pregnancy pillow? I'm really struggling with side sleeping. I found an old sausage type one up the loft from last time but it's too hard.

@B1993 @BellaTheDarkOverlord midwives don't recommend them for sleep overnight due to SIDS and over heating. A lot of people I know did infact use them overnight inside a crib or for transitioning to a cot when baby just would not settle. We used ours downstairs when he was unsettled and he would sleep so well. We didnt use the nest overnight but hen when we transitioned from our room to his cot we saw online a trick is to take the sausage (outer) part out of the sleepyhead and sort of arrange it loosely around baby like a nest/horse shoe (under the sheet) and over the week move it wider and wider until its right round the edges of the cot and it helps them transition to a wider space ! Worked a treat for us.

@Zaalfruit I read this as you bought a plastic bag from amazon for the changing bag. Each to their own haha. I think I need new glasses.
We went for the paca-pod backpack last time and it's still going strong. It's handy for organising all the bits. Only thing I would say is it's not as easy as the traditional style bags that open with a flap and you hang on the pram handles for grabbing. We used to have to stop and get the whole thing out and fish out what we wanted from the backpack. So, it looks great, you get loads in, really good quality but if you're OCD like me and feel the need to re pack the entire thing once you've fished out a muslin, bit time consuming 🤣 I ended up getting one of those stroller organisers in the end for the quick grab and go bits.

Morning ladies, looking for some reassurance as I’ve just noticed some really really light pink/potentially brown CM when I wiped. It looked like normal CM but definitely had a bit of colour in it. There wasn’t loads of it, but a bit more CM than I’ve seen before - nothing in underwear, just when I wiped.

I’m 11+1 today and had a scan at 10+6 and everything looked great, I was measuring 3 days ahead at 11+3. I have had a small bleed showing up on my last 8 week scan which they said might be absorbed or might come out, but I forgot to ask the sonographer this time around as we went to a different place. I’ve never had spotting up to this point.

Would you continue to monitor it throughout the day and if it starts being every time I wipe/the colour gets more obvious to then ring EPU?
