I absolutely love my DS and love being his mum! I feel guilty for even thinking like this, but can't help but feel a bit sad about not having the experience of being a girl mum, too. Maybe it's because I know this is our last so hitting me a bit harder.

Yes, they've booked my in for 34w and said I should revive a letter with date through soon. Sex ban until then, which wasn't something they said last time! At the scan, they'll see if it's 'moved' and if not I assume they'll book me in for section shortly after and start me on steroids.

MrsP4 · 16/01/2023 21:49

Hi all, I also had my 20 week scan today at 19+5 all is well double checked gender and she's definitely a girl! @B1993 I know how your feeling I'm the opposite with 2 girls I think there will always be a part of me that will crave that feeling of having a little boy this is also our last, I find myself thinking about it quite a lot it's so tough to explain but just know your not alone. I've accepted that I'm meant to be a girl mum and that's fine if I win the lottery one day maybe I'll have more who knows. But I've been buying a few things and I feel like that helped. This little girl of mine was naughty at the scan wouldn't move when the lady wanted to get certain measurements kept covering her face being cheeky already. She's really low down head right on top of my bladder 🤣

@Pippagled The uterine doppler is for high risk preeclampsia as I had it with my first. I think it's to check the arteries near babies for what pressure is like?? Consultant said because of my bicornuate uterus I should have had csection with DD. However that was 8 years ago and they only found out I had bicornuate uterus in October last year so they didn't know at the time. I've read bicornuate uterus can cause issues like preeclampsia and placenta accreta so maybe that's why I got them last time.

tigerlily0 · 16/01/2023 22:43

@B1993 I have a boy and a girl and I love them to bits. But when I see 2 brothers or 2 sisters I love it, and get a bit envious! But I can understand how ppl get gender disappointment, or inklings of feelings for wanting the other gender. Going to find out what gender we have tmrw at our scan, literally can't picture either/or.

@firsttimelondonmummy we have a Joolz day pram from our previous kids. It's very big and I was going to get something a bit lighter, but probably when baby is out of bassinet and car seat. The joolz comes with everything though. Cute little umbrella too lol.

Has anyone seen the Doona, my friend has one and I love how u can just whip the car seat out and it has wheels. Would be great for the school run, my dh does most school runs cos I hate doing it and we both work from home so not sure I would make good use of the Doona.

NalaNana · 16/01/2023 23:08

@B1993 it doesn't necessarily mean you won't get those things! My soon to be MIL had all boys but she came looking round wedding venues with us, will be wedding dress shopping with me etc. She's really enjoyed finally getting to do girly stuff!

Zaalfruit · 17/01/2023 08:08

(@B1993 I completely understand your feelings when it comes to it being your last and missing out. ) I still haven’t told anyone yet apart from this group the gender because I need peace within me . I think I just built it up in me one boy and one girl - never two girls .

I know having a low uterine is serious but I haven’t heard of a sex ban before for that reason.

@firsttimelondonmummy buying the first baby equipment and baby items is so exciting . I can’t wait to hear about all the baby showers for the ftms!

( Question - I have been getting random bruises on my body - do you reckon I should tell my doctors )

BobbySD345 · 17/01/2023 09:39

@tigerlily0 my friend has the Doona and absolutely raves about it !

Kelvie103 · 17/01/2023 10:20

I have a shopping trip planned with my mum at the weekend. Hopefully going to start buying a few little bits of clothes and have a look at other stuff and can't wait. I feel so much more excited and less anxious since finding out what we're having and seeing he's doing fine so far.

I think my husband though needs a bit of a reality check. He said it's a good idea to start buying little bits to spread the cost out but was thinking we'd go pram and car seat shopping at the beginning of June. I think that's a bit late! 🤣

ireneadler101 · 17/01/2023 10:37

My first baby arrived four weeks early with only a couple of days notice (c-section as his growth had faltered and dopplers were showing reduced blood flow). Definitely recommend getting the key stuff like car seat with time to spare!

FLA92 · 17/01/2023 12:58

Has anyone who felt flutters / bubbles with first movements not felt them for a day or so?

I am 18 weeks today and felt flutters every day last week and slightly last night but haven’t felt anything today - I know they might have moved position etc but can’t help but worry a bit!

BobbySD345 · 17/01/2023 13:57

@Kelvie103 if it helps persuade your OH, we were told to get the car seat in around 36 weeks ish to get comfortable with it and set the interior mirror up etc. Besides, our DS arrived at 37 weeks !! They also say to start packing your hospital bag around 37 weeks but thankfully I'd already pretty much finished sorting that when my waters went...!

Kelvie103 · 17/01/2023 14:35

I was hoping to get everything sorted including baby's bedroom by about 30/32 weeks. I like to be organised and know I'd be worrying incase he comes early if I left it later.

@FLA92 I think it's normal at this stage for them to be a bit sporadic. I'm just over 17 weeks and have been feeling little bubbles like someone's poking me inside for the last few weeks. Thursday it felt like it wouldn't stop then nothing from friday until I felt it a bit again yesterday but quite faint until a big one made me jump!

NalaNana · 17/01/2023 14:37

@FLA92 I've had this! First started feeling movements around 18 weeks and then had two days where I felt nothing (they were Beth active days for me though) I just put it to the back of my mind and it was fine, they've probably just moved into a different place. I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and still haven't really noticed much of a pattern other than active at night, they say a pattern won't be established until 24 weeks so try not to panic!

usedtolovenaps · 17/01/2023 15:18

Has anyone else been feeling really ill with some sort of virus in pregnancy? I've been ill for weeks, started feeling better and then caught a new virus now. Seen HCPs but they say it's normal and to wait it out. It's been over two months now😭 At least I don't have a fever, just super sore throat, cough, everything blocked up, headache. Just wanting the baby to be safe.

AstroH · 17/01/2023 18:11

@FLA92 FTM and I think I felt a movement at 17 weeks and then nothing until middle of 18 weeks and now at 20 weeks I feel movement every day. Had a scan last week and heard the heartbeat at my midwife appointment today and baby is all fine. I still feel a bit anxious about not feeling movement all the time but the scan & Doppler confirmation made me feel a bit better. Hopefully your 20 week scan is soon? It’s so nice to see the little legs kicking about and knowing that’s what’s going on and the baby is all safe 🥰

Also not sure if this applies to anyone but I’ve been referred to the perinatal mental health service for my anxiety. I can talk more about it on here if anyone is interested or my DMs are open.

ImHopeful2023 · 17/01/2023 18:14

Hi all love hearing all the gender updates hoping I'll find out at my next scan...next week. Anyone else not bought much her I'm afraid to really buy just want to know everything is ok

BobbySD345 · 17/01/2023 18:16

@usedtolovenaps lots of virus' going round that linger. Our family has shared one that seems to last about 3 weeks. So annoying. Try lemon and honey in hot water maybe and try and get lots of rest to allow your body to recover. Difficult if you have other children to run around after (or a DH - Mine is like a 2nd child...!) Hope you feel better soon x

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 17/01/2023 18:33

I got my last hospital bag ready early but then took it apart. Had DD early and DH had to pack it whilst I was in hospital definitely less than ideal!

DrinkingAllTheGin · 17/01/2023 18:46

I tip I read somewhere was that DH should put the stuff in your bag, as he's the one that will be getting stuff out for you so he should be able to find it.

firsttimelondonmummy · 17/01/2023 18:54

@AstroH if you wouldn’t mind sharing I think it would be helpful as there’s been lots of talk of anxiety.
It’s hard to know what levels are ‘normal’ and when you should seek support.

@BobbySD345 thank you so much ☺️x

BobbySD345 · 17/01/2023 19:37

@DrinkingAllTheGin I read this too but I am too much of a control freak so I did another tip I saw online - transparent toiletry bags. You can get packs on Amazon all different sizes and it means when you're screaming for a straw or a hair bobble, he can see through the bags and find whatever you want quickly. It worked really well for us last time. I also labelled up ones for baby. We did a newborn and then a 0-3 as we had no idea how big he would be. They suggest you do a sleepsuit, vest, nappy and hat in one quick to find bag.

AstroH · 17/01/2023 21:58

@firsttimelondonmummy I would say if it doesn’t feel normal, you know yourself best and so it probably isn’t? I’ve had lots of people say they had anxiety during pregnancy but when we talk I realise it’s not quite the same. Everyone has different worries obviously, but theirs often doesn’t seem quite so relentless or dark, if that makes sense. I was flagged at my booking appointment for how I answered some of the questions about mood and then I also have a history of mental ill health from a few years ago, so I think they take that into account.

I got referred today at my 16 week appointment (that was 4 weeks late lol) after she asked me about how I was doing and I told her about how I’d been feeling the last couple of months. She asked me if I’d ever been tested for OCD, which I haven’t. There were lots of tears (mine, not hers lol). At first she suggested a thing called IAPT, which is self referral talking therapy, but then once we’d talked more she said she would refer me herself to the trust mental health service, which is called SLAM and is a south London thing. I got an email this afternoon offering an appointment which seems super quick, so hopefully I will see someone soon.

I second taking 0-3 as well as newborn... my first was way too big for newborn clothes! Luckily I had some larger outfits with me. But unless you or your partner are small or you know your baby will be born early, don't waste money on loads or newborn clothes. Ours weren't touched 🙈

BobbySD345 · 18/01/2023 07:17

@Algor1thm This is quite common isn't it because some places only do newborn up to 8lbs or something silly! My friends little boy went straight into 0-3 right from the hospital! We went the other way as he was born at 37 weeks so we ended up buying all tiny baby things after we got home, just did a Next order and in hospital he had newborn which drowned him !! He was snuggly though so it was fine.
