@NalaNana we’ve got one booked for Friday! Great to hear it was worthwhile.
I’ve heard great things about the Ocarro it’s on our list to try.
I still think I’ll end up coming home with the Silvercross Dune and breaking my back though 😂 it’s just so gorgeous haha.

@B1993 Not sure I ever replied to you re the iCandy peach ! It was a bit of a mix. I found a local lady who cleans them up and shines the chrome and buffs the plastic etc so that was the first stage. Then DS had kicked the upright seat rest and all the seam had come away. I tried where we bought it and also iCandy direct to get it replaced and got passed about so in the end my Mum said she would have a go and randomly she ended up taking it to Timpsons to see if their leather machines could sew the seam back down. The helpful bloke did it free of charge and it looks perfect. Then lastly we got a new hood and strap covers as they were a bit marked/sun damaged. So bit of a combo really but cost a lot less than a new peach...! The bassinet is fine as he wasn't in there long and we used moses basket sheets and muslins on the matress xx

I'm 18+2 weeks and feel quite a lot of pops now. Mainly in the evening or first thing in the morning. I've felt some just now so she's woken up 😀ive only started feeling them for the last few days. Nothing on outside though.

Mistymeow · 10/01/2023 08:56

I did the John Lewis nursery tour last pregnancy which was really helpful when trying out buggies. I bought an uppababy cruz but John Lewis do price match so I found one much cheaper (but from a store that had bad reviews so not worth the risk!), sent them the link and got a good discount. That way I got my delivery all in one go and John Lewis did a decent guarantee on the buggy too. Worth doing :)

@DrinkingAllTheGin I hadn’t thought of ‘one born every minute’ what a good idea, I was thinking of resorting to the terrifying selection of home videos on YouTube!

@firsttimelondonmummy It is scary but it becomes less so when you know what to expect. In my experience (many years ago) the birth story is a bit like a battle story told between friends over coffee while babies sleep. I remember feeling a bit like I’d gone through a car crash, it is so very physical. But knowledge is power, if you can’t face the videos, and I don’t blame you, try reading some birthing books.

Does everyone have an idea of what sort of birth they want?
I had two home births in a water pool with my first two children but I’m too old now so have to go to hospital, I’m a bit worried about being pushed into having interventions (obviously I’d take the advice of doctors and all being safe is the priority). I’m also a bit shy and don’t fancy people walking in and out. How is everyone else feeling about the inevitable…

Kelvie103 · 10/01/2023 10:45

I dont want to know anything more than the basics about giving birth unless I have to! Going through ivf I did alot of research about every procedure I had to have and read some horror stories about how painful various things were, caused myself needless panic and stress as it wasn't that bad in the end so I'm thinking with birth I just dont want to know. I'm really shy too and kind of worried about all the yuck that goes with it although have been told when you're in labour you won't be thinking about that! As an older first time mum I'm definitely planning on giving birth in hospital though.

Kladebs · 10/01/2023 11:06

I wanted another water birth when I first found out, but I need antibiotics in labour now so I can't have that.
With having twins, im just hoping I can have them naturally now tbh and avoid a csection x

dresslol · 10/01/2023 11:41

@Kelvie103 I was worried about the yuck, I definitely remember feeling the whole thing is pretty undignified, the final straw for me was trying to pump and feeling very much like a cow! I gave up on going out for a few drinks at that point!

I’m not sure whether it will seem so bad this time as I’m not so young so maybe a bit less sensitive. I don’t remember ever getting to a point where I didn’t care whether anyone was watching but maybe I have conveniently forgotten that bit. I swooped dr’s practices the first time after the midwife dismissively told me I that when the time came I wouldn’t cared if a whole rugby team walked in. I thought I bloody well would and changed surgery the very same day!

MrsP4 · 10/01/2023 12:46

If I can give anyone any advice tips on giving birth one word just RELAX honestly the more you try and fight the pain the harder time you will have I done Hypnobirthing first time round and read this amazing book by siobhan miller practical ways to give birth my labour was a piece of cake after not so much I had quite a few stitches which then got infected that was worse than any part of labour itself but honestly I went from 2cm to 9cm in 3 hours she literally fell out I gave birth in UFO position (Upright, Forward, open) gravity is your best friend in labour. Have been told that I'd be a good candidate for home birth as it's known fact second babies come quicker but I'm going in to hospital, don't want all the mess at home, unless things happen that quick I don't make it 🤣
When I went for my booking apt this time round my MW got all my old notes up and she was shocked reading aloud second stage labour 15 minutes. This baby could be completely different and not want to come out but honestly relax and trust your body is the main advice I can give, I had no pain relief or gas and air first time round I used the breathing techniques that I learnt in the book. Clever really because you count your breathing in for 4 out for 8 seconds I think it was currently reading it again but not at that part yet anyway you do three or 4 rotations of that and by the time you've finished the contraction has gone so your focused more on counting than the pain xx

dresslol · 10/01/2023 13:49

@MrsP4 i totally agree with the importance of relaxing and going with it. I remember my body just taking over. I will read the book you’ve recommended, thanks for sharing.
I ended up with a loads of quite hippie books which said to visualise yourself opening like a flower, which mostly just annoyed me but the general thought was right. I walked round and round and when a contraction hit I tried to relax and think about opening up rather than tensing.

Does anyone here have experience of giving birth whilst labelled as geriatric? I have been told my chances of avoiding a c-section are 50/50!

justbelieve · 10/01/2023 14:24

I haven’t given too much thought to the birth yet, but I’m pretty sure I’d like to give birth in hospital so that if emergency intervention is required I’m already there. I’d like to try natural pain relief and hypnobirthing, but apart from that I really don’t mind and happy to go with the flow / whatever is safest for me and baby

Brownsauce89 · 10/01/2023 14:58

I also did a positive birth company course and loved my labour, I was induced due to gestational diabetes but I felt so in control and I thank the course!! I’m not nervous this time for the labour (I was a bit last time) I’m more worried about the lack of sleep in the newborn phase and 2 under 2!

toomanysausages · 10/01/2023 16:40

I like looking at buggies but have my heart set on a Stokke - have wanted one for years! Don't see them about much though. Also need to make sure that it will fit okay in the boot of new car as we're going to buy a bigger, safer car before baby comes.

16 weeks today so I am little further behind some of you.. I'm still waiting for the first flutters!

Algor1thm · 10/01/2023 18:30

Another vote for the positive birth company online course. And NOT watching one born every minute while pregnant - it's edited to be very dramatic and really doesn't give you a realistic idea of birth at all. My first birth wasn't straightforward but it was calm and the medical professionals had it all under control. Thanks to hypnobirthing I didn't panic once, even when things got a little tricky.

HalWin2221 · 10/01/2023 18:57

When did everyone feel their first flutters or baby kick? I’m currently 16+2 so know it’s so early and I could have another 8 weeks to wait! I’m so looking forward to feeling him🥲

DrinkingAllTheGin · 10/01/2023 19:41

Had my GD test today. My arm looks like I've been hit with a truncheon! (All ok and no diabetes)

Fredthespider · 10/01/2023 20:21

Another shout out for the positive birth company online course! Knowledge is power in my opinion. I also read the positive birth book by Milli Hill.

Fredthespider · 10/01/2023 20:22

@DrinkingAllTheGin ouch! I have mine at 28 weeks, not looking forward to it.

Belami · 10/01/2023 20:25

Hi ladies!! Hope you're all doing well. Sorry I forgot to msg back last time. Can't believe I'm 18 + 3 now!

Had a gender scan just after Xmas and found out we're expecting a little boy 🥺💙

Been feeling flutters now since mid way through last week. I would probably describe it more as a muscle twitch though haha. Yesterday I had loads but today I've barely had any. I'm going to try not to panic though as it's probably really normal to not feel them consistently this early on. Had anyone had similar?

DrinkingAllTheGin · 10/01/2023 20:36

@Fredthespider I'll be getting a retest at 28 weeks. Hopefully the vampire will be a little gentler next time. My other arm is fine!

dresslol · 10/01/2023 20:54

@DrinkingAllTheGin glad to hear all went well with the GD test, apart from that awful bruise. I have one in Feb, seems quite late but never mind.

@firsttimelondonmummy I’m loving your carrier suggestion, just hoping to persuade the other half!

Leaf86 · 10/01/2023 20:56

@Belami I’ve been feeling flutters since 16 weeks, and a few kicks on most days, but it’s still very inconsistent (I’m now 19+3). It’s hard not to panic (I’ve had another quiet day myself) but I think when they’re this little they can get into positions where you can’t feel them as well.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 10/01/2023 21:01

I have an anterior placenta so despite being 18 weeks, I'm not knowingly feeling anything. First time mum so might just not be recognising them

Belami · 10/01/2023 21:03

@Leaf86 thanks for sharing ❤️ I'm sure at my 16 week app the midwife said , when I do start feeling them, I probably wouldn't get a consistent pattern for 24+ weeks. It's just worrying anyway isn't it, especially when you've felt them loads the day before and then more or less nothing.

Belami · 10/01/2023 21:04

Sorry that should say until 24+ weeks .
