@B1993 I've got a load of second hand clothes from my brother from his 2 year old. I've let DD7 go through and pick some for her dolly. She wants a kids next to me cot like we're getting so she can match when baby comes. It's cute! I haven't got her any books but she looks every week how big baby is now and how she's changing. She came to the scan with us and called her a dinosaur when she saw the 3D image!

I've started now with horrific heartburn. I'm going to have to get some liquid gaviscon again. I can feel moving inside a bit but not outside yet.

HalWin2221 · 07/01/2023 21:36

Well the skull theory was wrong, we’re having a little boy! He did not want to show his face today, just kept flashing his boy bits! 😳😂

usedtolovenaps · 07/01/2023 23:26

@HalWin2221 congratulations ☺️

firsttimelondonmummy · 07/01/2023 23:50

@dresslol i was advised by my NHS sonographer at my 12 week scan not to bother with nuchal testing due to NIPT being significantly more accurate.
There is a very low margin for error on NIPT but as with anything it is unfortunately never a certainly.
Having NIPT testing is the most accurate testing you can do and so I’d rest assured you’ve taken the best test available.
Gender inaccuracy (girl result when it’s a boy) I’ve seen pop up a few times but I haven’t seen anyone on MN (correct me if I’m wrong) say that an NIPT missed chromosome abnormalities. If there are posts I’d imagine they are very rare.

@BellaTheDarkOverlord, it's super sweet that she's so excited! 🥰

@HalWin2221, welcome to team boy! 💙 Congratulations 🎉

BobbySD345 · 08/01/2023 09:25

We started a mass sort out yesterday. Now we know she's a girl and everything we have is boy, 7 massive boxes of clothes later and we have bin bags for friends, charity and an OK ish sized pile of neutral things she can get some wear out of. Lots more space in the loft now (for me to fill with everything girl! Lol). We have quite a boy ish play mat, bouncer and and jumperoo but she won't know. We have had our iCandy Peach reconditioned and we have a neutral coloured stroller. Found a next2me and sleepyhead second hand and a schuggle bath. I think we may have sourced a 4moms mamaroo from a friend but it doesn't have the mobile so I need to look online to see if they are sold spare. Tempted by the Hauck 3 in 1 highchair/bouncer/bassinet for the kitchen and one of those UV drying sterilisers from new but otherwise trying to go second hand !! Hoping our prep machine is still OK 3 years on... What is on everyone else's list I might have missed?

B1993 · 08/01/2023 10:01

@BobbySD345, this is my job for after our scan next week as I want to confirm this baby is a boy before I go through clothes etc.

We're doing the same and reusing most of the things from DS. I haven't even considered getting the pram reconditioned (we also have an iCandy peach) - do you mind me asking where you went for that? Was it expensive?

I think your list sounds pretty complete! I'm assuming you are the furnature from your first, too, like like the full size cot? And car seat?

If you end up needing a new prefect prep, I saw them in Aldi this week! There was also a crib in there.

dresslol · 08/01/2023 11:53

@firsttimelondonmummy Thanks so much for your reassurance, will try to stop fretting about it.

What baby carriers/slings are you all thinking of using? I was going to get a baby born air but I have no idea whether there are now better ones on the market, I found the wrap around slings too much faff last time.

I had my first two children a loooong time ago so I don’t know what any of the items people are mentioning actually are… What is a next2me and a sleepyhead?

What would you recommend as essential items to someone who is pretty clueless! I’ve got a bugaboo pushchair/carrycot/car seat but that’s about the only thing.

I was thinking about the Leaner cot with adjustable mattress height which turns into a child’s bed…

it’s starting to get exciting, and real!

justbelieve · 08/01/2023 12:12

Thanks for all of your reassurance about my wrong gender NIPT test. Going to trust the trisomy and NHS scans are a good sign and unfortunately for me they just got the gender wrong this time.

I’m feeling good, I’m a FTM and was convinced we were having a boy right from the start, so whilst it’ll take a couple of days to get my head around the fact we’re not having a girl, I’m very excited 💙

B1993 · 08/01/2023 13:35

@dresslol, I've gone with this carrier mainly because it was a bargain price and gets good reviews. I didn't use one at all with DS so figured for that price, if I don't like it I've not wasted £100+.

A next to me crib is one that can be joined to your own bed so similar to cosleeping but where baby has their own space. It was a bit of a unnecessary struggle breastfeeding with DS so hoping a next to me will make life a bit easier. And a sleepyhead is s baby nest. Do be cautious with these though as they are recommended only for supervised naps due to suffocation/overheating risks.

I've mentioned before but Water wipes and a shnuggle baby bath are both on my must have lists!

@justbelieve, I can imagine that would take a bit of an adjustment to get your head around! At least you've found out now and not a birth once you'd have names picked out and all the wrong clothes.

dresslol · 08/01/2023 13:51

Thanks @B1993 that’s all super helpful. Will look at water wipes and shnuggle bath.

Fredthespider · 08/01/2023 14:14

I love our Shnuggle bath! So good.

I have a Close caboo sling that I was given for free which is nice for a very squishy newborn, it’s a bit of a wrap around, but not fully as it has some rings that you tighten the fabric through, a happy medium between a wrap around and a structured carrier. Then I have a beco gemini which is more structured and does things like forward facing and a back carry and also hip. This is suitable from around 7lb so most newborns and doesn’t need a separate newborn insert like other carriers do.

For the second time mums I’d definitely recommend a sling/carrier. So helpful to be hands free when you’re running after a toddler too! I find baby sleeps better in them too.

Just caught up with the conversation after a Christmas hosting family and hectic first week back at work.

Sorry to read your news @WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay 💜

Loving all the recommendations for baby stuff. Especially the shnuggle bath. My daughter hated baths until she was able to sit up, so hopefully this will make a difference to number two.

I’ve been craving sour things - salt and vinegar crisps, Chinese food, Granny Smith apples, Astro belts. Exactly the same as with my first. Anyone else had this?

Also I’m pretty sure I have sciatica. Been having shooting pains in my left bum cheek and burning sensations down my leg. Has anyone had this before? I’ve found an 18 minute sciatica stretching session on YouTube which I’m going to start doing I think.

Fredthespider · 08/01/2023 14:53

@ManedWolf I’ve been getting sciatica since 6 weeks 😫 I’ve got a physio appointment tomorrow which I’m hoping will help. Do a little research into pelvic girdle pain, it’s quite common but that will give you some good suggestions for what might help, I’d be cautious of doing exercises that aren’t specific to pregnancy.

I have these exact symptoms and I rang my hospital and they said sciatica and they have referred me to physio (not sure if they normally refer straight away but might be due to previous back surgery I’ve had as well)

I thought I was alone in this but ever since I’ve had it I’ve seen quite a few other people have it who are around the same stage of pregnancy as me

ManedWolf · 08/01/2023 16:35

@Fredthespider Sorry to hear that you’ve been suffering since 6 weeks!! That sucks! Hope the physio goes well for you. Thanks for the tip about pelvic girdle pain. I found a new stretching routine video specifically for pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy, and the lady guiding it is very very pregnant with small kids running around 😁

@Veryxonfused I’d heard of the name but had no idea what it was until I googled my symptoms. You’re definitely not alone 🤗Hope your physio goes well too and you find some relief.

Seems like physio is the way to go!

DrinkingAllTheGin · 08/01/2023 21:05

Been to see my parents this afternoon and they are looking after a pram/buggy for us. A hand me down from me DS's friend. Seems really good and happy to have it FOC.

firsttimelondonmummy · 08/01/2023 21:51

@dresslol no worries 💖

I’m sooo tempted by the Artipoppe Zeitgeist they look so comfy for mum and baby and aesthetically they are by far the nicest on the market (for my personal taste).

Has anyone bought a Silvercross Dune? I really really liked it but not sure if I’m just rushing into getting the first pram I love and if I need to do more research.

The only thing I’ve got so far is the Snoo as it was on sale around Christmas but I’ve delayed delivery until June.
Also a few little bits of clothing.

Hi All, catching up on messages . I have the chicco next to me, and just bought a bbhugme, mainly because I can feel onset of spd. It's comfy and nice to cuddle but im not sure im sold on spending £140 on a beanbag, ppl seem to love it though. Im a side sleeper so don't have problems with that either. This is my third and most likely final baby. Anyone else have one?

Just wondering also if sleepyhead pods are washable. I don't mind most things as second hand but feel bit iffy with baby sleep things being second hand. Need to get a baby bath, a carrier, a good camera for baby room when Theyr a bit older, and a basket or sleeper for downstairs, need a chest of drawers for baby room. And a playmat, oh and a baby swing / bouncer.

My goodness I forgot how many things babies need, and I got rid of everything after my 2 kids.

BobbySD345 · 09/01/2023 07:31

@firsttimelondonmummy I haven't looked at the Silvercross but what I would say about prams is to go somewhere you can try loads out. Move all the bits around. Lift it up and have a play. Some, Silvercross included, can be so heavy and impractical. Travel systems are a great idea for when baby is small. Egg is a lovely option but is on the smaller side so doesn't last as long. Our 3 year old has only just come out of the iCandy Peach. Its not as light as others on the market but we have got on very well with it. A friend had a silver cross and stopped using it after 12 months as it was too heavy for her. Hope that helps :)

BobbySD345 · 09/01/2023 07:33

@tigerlily0 you can wash the sleepyhead covers. We did this several times :)
The Nooie 360 is a good option for a nursery camera which is more like £30 compared to the £100 plus options. No monitor though, we use the app on an iPad.

Mistymeow · 09/01/2023 08:05

Hi everyone,

Please may I join? I’m 17 weeks and due June 16th but likely will not go to term (very high chance of GD and will need an elective C section due to difficult first birth). We had the SAFE test which came back normal and we are having a boy. We have an almost 3 year old girl after a difficult few years of miscarriages and infertility so we are delighted. My husband has a rare genetic condition which means we have a higher chance of cleft lip so I’m nervous about the 20 week scan. My first was a small baby so will see the consultant on Wednesday.

The schnuggle bath is great, I got mine second hand from marketplace for £5, just gave it a clean. I will probably get the next to me and Moses basket second hand too but buy a new mattress as this is recommended by the safe sleeping people.

firsttimelondonmummy · 09/01/2023 08:15

@tigerlily0 I have a bbhugme I love it so does my partner 😂

@BobbySD345 thanks for the advice! I’ll drag my partner out and go and do another trip and try more brands.
Silvercross was heavy but I assumed that was pretty standard.

justbelieve · 09/01/2023 08:20

@firsttimelondonmummy im in love with the silver cross reef, but I’m going to go to John Lewis and have a play around with it before we make our decision. Hopefully this weekend and then will order in a couple of weeks!

I’ve heard they can be heavier than others on the market, so definitely worth you going to a shop to see it in person and getting to play around with a few

LT103 · 09/01/2023 08:21

Omg you are all stressing me out. We have literally nothing haha. My brother is giving me all the bedroom furniture and we only just started on a list of what we want to buy but we haven’t bought one thing yet 🙈
I guess I need to get more organised haha
