My fetal Doppler arrived today, and after what felt like an age we finally found baby girls heartbeat! I’d watched lots of videos so knew that we kept finding the placenta until we finally found her 💗

I won’t use it once I start feeling movement, but it was such a relief to hear that whilst I’m in this limbo of waiting for movement.

Does anyone else use one?

B1993 · 02/01/2023 12:44

@DrinkingAllTheGin, I’m dreading doing the spare room (also a dumping ground)! It’s going to be DS’s new big boy bedroom and then the nursery will stay pretty much the same for this baby after a freshen up.

The carrier was a bargain so glad you’ve also have been able to make use of the link I sent 😊

@justbelieve, I haven’t ordered one just because I’m not sure I’d know what I’m listening for and don’t think it would help because of that. I have felt movements for a while now so also don’t think it necessary. It was lovely hearing the heartbeat at my appointment yesterday though - so would be nice to have that option at home, too. 🥰

BobbySD345 · 02/01/2023 12:50

Just had a gender scan. It's a girl ! I can't quite believe it. Naturally we have been and bought a little dress and tights as the celebratory scan outfit ✨️

DrinkingAllTheGin · 02/01/2023 13:51

I've started an amazon wishlist but as a FTM I don't really know what I will need.
We have been offered lots of second hand bits so will collect all that up before we buy too much.

B1993 · 02/01/2023 15:07

@BobbySD345, congratulations! 🎀 Am I right in saying you've already got a son? I think it's amazing to have one of each 🥰 - how are you feeling with the outcome?

@DrinkingAllTheGin, add Water Wipes to you list! I don't know if it's the same everywhere but my hospital only allowed water wipes to be used or normal cotton wool and water. Water wipes are expensive but well worth it during the newborn stage and SO much more convenient than cotton wool!!

I remember loving my shnuggle baby bath so I'd put one of those on there too. A play gym is also useful for the early days - I went for the Tiny Love Black and White Gymini because babies don't see colour for the first however long so black and white with bold patterns is more stimulating for them. I loved it and would recommend. Our babies will be born in summer but stock up on light blankets (I liked the swaddle blankets and sleeping bag ones).

I didn't rate my Moses basket or bouncer so wouldn't be rushing to add those to my list if I was starting over.

I hope you don't mind me adding my (unsolicited) advice there. I know you didn't ask but I hope some of it is helpful!

DrinkingAllTheGin · 02/01/2023 15:11

@B1993 thanks, that is helpful. I have added waterwipes, will look at the rest of your suggestions too.

BobbySD345 · 02/01/2023 15:28

@B1993 Thank you! Yes we have a 3 year old boy. He was so excited when we told him it is a baby sister bless him. I went and got a little dress and tights in 6-9 months and it's adorable ! There's so much more choice in girls clothing.

We are putting the shnuggle bath on the list this time and maybe the stand. We had a baby bath on the dining table with DS and trying to fill it was a pain as it was huge !
We have a finding nemo playmat from DS so she will have that one and think herself lucky lol. We didn't buy a lot of blue thankfully. I definitely want a sleepyhead and next2me but think my friend is selling those.
I also thought about one of those 3 in 1 bouncer/bassinet/high chair combos for the kitchen diner to keep the 3 year old away from her when I'm not looking !

BobbySD345 · 02/01/2023 15:30

@B1993 @DrinkingAllTheGin Also the aden and anais muslin blankets are brilliant for summer. Light weight but big and light weight.

Zaalfruit · 02/01/2023 20:37

I feel so excited for the FTMs in this group ! It’s so fun buying all the bits and doing the research. From my personal experience I was gifted the bjorn carrier and I Loved it . I used it till my daughter was one . So if anyone is thinking of getting a carrier or a wrap - it’s a must from me :) Even though my toddler is 2 - I gave away a lot of my stuff , I thought it would take me ages to get pregnant on account of my age and health .
( However I am unsure if I should ask to borrow back the gifted items or buy new ones )

@BobbySD345 Congrats - so exciting now you will have one boy and one girl . If you are a spender - there is so much choice for girls clothes it’s ridiculous. I was looking at the 3 in 1 combos aswell . I feel like we will need one to save baby from the curious toddlers .

@DrinkingAllTheGin Water wipes are so nice however a little cold on their tushes it’s so cute you will see them scrunch up from the cold wipe. Also sometimes boots has great offers on the multiple packs .

@B1993 My hospital was so strict water wipes or cotton balls with water . Cotton balls are a faff and if they aren’t wet enough the cotton bits go everywhere. I forgot that it will be warmer when these babies are born !

B1993 · 02/01/2023 20:53

@DrinkingAllTheGin, you’re more than welcome 😊

@BobbySD345, I don’t think the stand was available when we brought ours a few years ago. I didn’t ever feel like I wished I had one so just the bath worked well for us.

My DS will be just about 4 when baby is born and don’t anticipate him being too touchy feely with baby. 😅 My BIL has a 3 year old and newborn and he’s not too interested in her so you might not need to worry about that!

@Zaalfruit, glad to know it wasn’t just my hospital with this rule! They really made a point about it too - I remember them showing us a pack of Huggies 99% water wipes and pointing out how many other chemicals were listed in the ingredients. I suppose it’s good they did though, as I’m not sure I would have thought to look otherwise.

This is another summer baby for me ☀️🍦 It’s worked out quite well clothes wise, too. Lots of thin leggings and little shorts that I can use again. Although, I remember it being SO hot when DS was born (July) so he spent lots of those days in just a vest (or nappy!).

BobbySD345 · 02/01/2023 21:15

@Zaalfruit @B1993 I remember our hospital being super strict with the water wipes thing and before we went I said im only buying one pack for hospital and then I'll just use normal ones but when they're so tiny and wrinkly and newborn i just couldn't bring myself to do it so we ended up buying more water wipes 😅 I will buy a couple of packs per month I think to get us through the first few weeks. We used a top and tail bowl a lot with cotton wool and cooled boiled water. He had bad gunky eyes. That was a god send but using cotton wool on a pooey bottom, no thank you !

WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay · 03/01/2023 07:53

Can I ask for a bit of a handhold please. I’m having my further scan and amniocentesis today and I cannot adequately articulate my emotions but I think it’s fair to say I am shit scared as to what news awaits.

dresslol · 03/01/2023 08:34

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay I’m sending you all my best wishes and will be thinking of you today. I wish I could do more. You will be strong enough to cope with this because you have to be, it’s so tough but you will be ok. Hang in there and be strong, lots of love x x x x x x x

B1993 · 03/01/2023 08:39

@BobbySD345, I ended up with a few free packs with my first - I got a 3 or 4 when spending so much from my Amazon Baby wish list. Easily done when it's a first baby so might be worth looking into that if you're a FTM or need a 'bigger' purchase you were planning to get from Amazon anyway.

B1993 · 03/01/2023 08:45

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay, I cannot imagine how scary this must feel, but so far baby had defied the odds with previous tests and hopefully they will today, too! I'm sending so much positivity, strength and well wishes your way and hope all the best for you, your family and your little girl! 🎀

From what I've heard, the actual amniocentesis is done fairly quickly and painlessly so i hope the actual procedure won't be difficult one for you. We are all here is you need to decompress at any point, or just need a chat. In the meantime, best of luck for today. 💜

Zaalfruit · 03/01/2023 12:14

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay I can’t not say how you feel . However sending you lots of well wishes and love . You are amazing and strong and baby is too .

Katie2021 · 03/01/2023 12:19

Just had my delayed 16 week midwife appointment (I’m 18 weeks pregnant) and she did the baby’s heartbeat 💗 so scary at first as it takes a few minutes to find but it was fine, you can also hear the baby wriggling moving around from the pressure on the belly which was nice to hear!

just wondering has anyone had any food aversions or cravings? I’ve not really had any cravings but I’ve COMPLETELY gone off chocolate 😂 literally not had any all Christmas because of it !! Which is so weird because before I was pregnant I craved chocolate all the time 😂😂😂

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay Sending all my love and praying for good news for you 🙏🏻❤️ Xxx

WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay · 03/01/2023 14:24

Thanks so much for your kind words @dresslol @B1993 @Zaalfruit @Katie2021 . The consultant decided not to do the amniocentesis today as the further cvs lab results came back clear for the chromosomal conditions they check for. We had another scan and he believes there is a likely heart defect. We have been referred to heart specialists tomorrow and I am grateful and relieved it’s so soon. While I am afraid of what the condition might be I would prefer to know exactly what the situation is rather than remain in this limbo.

On a happier note it was beyond wonderful to see our little one moving about on the scan again. She’s a wriggler.

I hope everyone else in this group is having and will continue to have a happy healthy pregnancy and thank you again for the support x

Ally1992 · 03/01/2023 14:55

@Katie2021 that must of been so nice to hear 😊my midwife won't listen to the heartbeat until 25 weeks.

I have recently had a craving for cucumber and have completely been off tea the whole pregnancy. I had aversions for chocolate and coffee at the start but that went away when I was about 13 weeks.

Anyone else having bad lower back pain?

firsttimelondonmummy · 03/01/2023 14:58

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay sending
you and your little one all the positive energy ✨

Is anyone else still pretty much bump less? ☹️
I am pretty much 16 weeks now and this is at night when I’ve eaten and look the biggest.
where is he hiding? I want my cute bump haha.

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay best of luck to you for tomorrow, I hope it all works out, I can’t imagine how nerve wracking the whole process is. It’s good you are being seen so quickly. Wishing you all the best and let us know how you get on if you can. X x x x x x x x

justbelieve · 03/01/2023 15:04

@B1993 do you need the actual water wipes brand? I know pampers do some water wipes, but I wonder how picky the hospitals are?

B1993 · 03/01/2023 15:39

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay, it sounds like there's been a good outcome from today, given that they've been able to rule out chromosomal abnormalities. It's great they're seeing you swiftly as I can imagine even this short wait is an anxious one.

Wishing you lots of luck for tomorrow! 💜

@justbelieve, yes, I was told even the pampers/Huggies brands that are 99+% water contain a lot of other chemicals which can irritate such delicate newborn skin. The water wipes brand only has 2 ingredients: water and fruit extract. If you check the ingredients of the pampers ones and they are the same, I wouldn't have thought it would matter though as they just don't want to use anything with other additives.

@firsttimelondonmummy, some people never get a bump! It might just be that you don't 'pop' until around 22-26 weeks, which is also really common when it's your first.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 03/01/2023 17:08

I always used Asda sensitive wipes from Asda with my last. She seemed to get rashes and reddening with normal wipes from the scent. I'll do the same this time.

I have a slight bump now but barely noticeable. Was noticed last night when I climbed under DD's bed on my belly and couldn't lay down as I could feel a little mass in my uterus. I guess that's the end of laying on my belly now! No movement yet though but she was very active on Saturday at her scan.
