@firsttimelondonmummy what an amazing scan pic!! That's beautiful!

For everyone who are having 2nd or 3rd babies how did u announce to ur other kids you're having a baby? I think now is the time to tell my 2, as more ppl are finding out and I don't to ruin their surprise. I was going to do a bit of a treasure hunt and then at the end of it a present which says 'I'm going to be a big brother' etc. they love squishmallows so might get one each and get something printed to wear on top. Or any other ideas welcome?

I have my 16 week appt on wed and will do it after that

Zaalfruit · 19/12/2022 17:06

@firsttimelondonmummy omg goodness that’s an amazing scan pic ! Love the big open smile and such a cute pronounced nose 🥰

Algor1thm · 19/12/2022 17:39

@firsttimelondonmummy what an amazing picture! Congratulations! Very clearly a boy too haha

@tigerlily0 mine's a bit little so we didn't really announce it to him as such, have just been dropping it into conversation and slowly he's understanding. That sounds like a fun way to reveal it to older kids!

Fredthespider · 19/12/2022 17:44

@tigerlily0 we’re waiting until after the 20 week scan. A friend had bad news at hers which has always made me cautious, but hopefully we can find out the sex too which will mean we can fully introduce the idea of a brother/sister. Mine are still fairly little though so it’s not such a difficult thing to hide ☺️

tigerlily0 · 19/12/2022 18:25

My friend had a miscarriage at week 16 in summer which was caught at a routine appt and it has made me very wary ( she's got pregnant 4 weeks later and is 4 weeks ahead of me now thoSmile)

My kids are 6 and 8 and I'm most excited to tell my 8 year old son. He said to me once I really want a baby brother or sister I just love babies , but I know itl be hard for you. He's so sweet. I see him looking longingly at babies and toddlers and tries to play with them etc. he's going to be over the moon

firsttimelondonmummy · 19/12/2022 19:05

Thank you @tigerlily0 🥰 we were thrilled with it!

@Zaalfruit awww thanks! I’m hoping it’s dads cute nose 😂🤞🏻

@Algor1thm oooo how can you tell? We only know because of the harmony I wouldn’t have a clue otherwise 🤣

You can see the nub at the bottom of the picture is raised up away from the bladder 😊

B1993 · 19/12/2022 19:34

@firsttimelondonmummy, what an amazing scan photo!! 🤩

After all this covid talk... I've tested positive today! 🙊😅 Luckily I'm only experiencing mild symptoms (a stuffy nose and a bit headache-y mainly; I don't seem to have a temp so that's good). I have my 16w midwife appointment booked in for Thursday but unsure if I can attend now - does anyone know the protocol? I'll actually be 16+5 at the time of the appointment so reluctant to put it off as then it'll be after xmas when I'll be closer to 18w, which seems late.

firsttimelondonmummy · 19/12/2022 20:28

@Algor1thm I had to google but I see it now 😁🙏🏻💙

Thank you @B1993 🥰
Sorry to hear you caught Covid hopefully your symptoms remain mild and you make a quick recovery 🤞🏻
It’s definitely going around at the moment.

I ended up having the quad test last Tuesday as they couldn't get NT measurements at the 12 week scan, I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to get the results?

Brownsauce89 · 20/12/2022 04:55

I’ve got my quad test tomorrow, I was hoping to get the results before Christmas but guessing that will not be possible! If anyone does have experience of how long it takes that would be great!

Brownsauce89 · 20/12/2022 04:56

@NalaNana was meant to be a reply to you - I’m new to posting on here!

NalaNana · 20/12/2022 10:42

@Brownsauce89 I think if it's low risk it takes a couple of weeks to come through in a letter, if it's high risk they call you quicker than that but I'm not sure how quickly, I'm just wondering if I can relax now that it's been a week and I haven't heard anything! X

I had my scan today and our Nuchal translucency measured 12.6. We are devastated as even though the blood tests will take a while it seems highly likely a very bleak outcome with such a high number. We are waiting to find out what the next steps are from screening. I hope everyone else receives better news than me.

An update… I’ve have been sick with worry following our NT measurement last Monday. We had a CVS test on Thursday. It wasn’t as unpleasant as I feared but very emotional. The medical team were fantastic though.

We were told our NT measurement had been mis-measured and was 10.1 rather than 12.6. Still off the scale though.

We had our expectations managed to expect the worst as the NT measurement is so high and there is also a large cystic hygroma. Downs or Turner’s syndrome were suspected.

However we have just got our initial CVS results back and they were negative for the most common chromosomal conditions! We are stunned (as are the medics I think).

They will now check for the lesser known chromosomal conditions and I will also have an amniocentesis in early January. They suspect if it isn’t chromosomal it is likely to be a heart condition.

Our scan last week was so fraught the pregnancy wasn’t even dated but we now know the due date is 17 June. The CVS has also confirmed we have a baby girl.

We are still facing the unknown and are realistic that this is likely just a temporary reprieve. However naturally I am hoping with my entire being that our daughter defies the odds and I am so pleased that at the very least I get to stay pregnant with her for now and want to continue to do my best to keep her safe, warm and happy.

B1993 · 20/12/2022 11:03

@firsttimelondonmummy, thanks!

I will be phoning the midwife this afternoon to see what they advise for my appointment on Thursday.

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay, I’ve been wondering how you’ve been since your scan; I’m so pleased that, so far, baby girl (🎀!!) has defied the odds. It’s such incredible news! 🥰 Really wishing you all the best for your upcoming tests, too! 💜🍀

ImHopeful2023 · 20/12/2022 11:19

Hi all is it just me or has everyone's discharge increased in seconds trimester with small bits of cramping

WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay · 20/12/2022 11:49

Thank you @B1993 , I appreciate the kind words and those you gave me last week. I am cautiously hopeful and just grateful for every day I am pregnant.

I am sorry to hear you have covid and I hope it is very mild, you recover quickly and you able to get your appointment soon.

@ImHopeful2023 yes me too. I read in my pregnancy book that it’s perfectly normal and not to worry.

ImHopeful2023 · 20/12/2022 11:57

Thanks @WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay great to know I'm not the only one

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 20/12/2022 13:12

@ImHopeful2023 Me too. Had to buy tena lady for the discharge I'm losing! Cramps bad too. Baby is I think blocking my urinary track so I can't wee properly.

firsttimelondonmummy · 20/12/2022 13:14

Hi All,
Can I get some advice please?
Yesterday at my 12 (was 13 +4) week NHS scan I was advised against Nuchal testing because I had private NIPT testing done (sonographer said you can get conflicting results so they advise against it as NIPT is more accurate.
We did have Nuchal at 11+1 but he was only 43mm not 45mm and Nuchal was 1.4 at that stage (sonographer advised fine).
I’ve since realised Nuchal also checks for potential congenial heart defects which we weren’t made aware of.
Should I be asking for another scan or pay for one privately or should I stop worrying?

OP posts:
WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay · 20/12/2022 13:49

@firsttimelondonmummy I would double check with your midwife but I can understand why the sonographer would say to trust the NIPT test over a scan as a scan is only a soft indicator whereas I understand the test is more conclusive.

My NT did not go well at 12 weeks but I was told they aren’t able to comment on the heart until I get to 15/16 weeks as only then are the chambers of the heart visible on a scan so I doubt a further scan at this point would be able to offer anything conclusive heart wise.

Also had the sonographer spotted anything untoward at your scan I am sure they would have been obliged to flag it as a precaution regardless of your private testing so I think you can feel confident all is well.

justbelieve · 20/12/2022 14:22

I’ve just started a list of baby bits and I cannot believe just how much you need (first time mum) 😂

Any of you who already have babies, is there a purchase that you made that you would 100% buy again/could not live without?
