@dresslol I’ve just seen your Covid note.
My partner had it when I was about 2 1/2 weeks pregnant, he ended up giving me a god awful flu and I was incredibly sick for 2 weeks.
Touch wood my scans have all been fine and midwife told me not to worry.

Ah thanks @firsttimelondonmummy that makes me feel so much better, it feels like walking a tightrope sometimes, I know most of us manage to have healthy babies so will try to keep perspective.
And congratulations on your boy, I’m from a family of girls too, lots of sisters and female cousins, it’s exciting you’re Having the first boy.
hope everyone else is faring well and avoiding the winter bugs.
I’ve been commuting to work everyday, thinking business as usual, I’m not a drama queen, and have not said anything to work as I’m finishing in Jan anyway and didn’t feel like getting their opinions/judgement and kinda wish now that I’d been a bit more precious!
ah well, roll on Xmas hols, I need a break!

I hope everyone's doing ok - I'm catching up on messages so forgive me if I've missed something!

I told my boss at work today about the pregnancy and asked him to keep it to himself as no one else at work knows yet. He congratulated me but also said it gives him lots 'to think about.' I reassured him I'd still (most likely) be available for Y6 SATS but get the feeling I've put a spanner in the works. 🙈😅

I'm still planning on waiting until the New Year to tell the rest of my team/staff as I only have 3 more days at work (all next week) anyway so not much longer to hide it!

I had covid a couple of weeks ago and baby is fine on scan. I know another lady who had covid slightly further along and she has a lovely healthy girl. Finally feel that I can post on this thread again as I had my nhs 12 week scan yesterday. Due date is June 27th so a little behind some of you! Very excited to have an official date now. I have had several private scans and it's been nice to see baby getting bigger (and busier)! Had a very early gender scan too and apparently baby is a she. I'm waiting to hear back as I also have had a harmony test. Have said that I'd like to know the gender.. Hope they both match upBlushBlush

B1993 · 15/12/2022 12:32

Sorry to hear about those of you suffering with covid! I think the risk is higher in the third trimester but not so much in the second trimester.

It reminds me though, that I need to book in my vaccination.

Congratulations to all the ladies who've recently had successful 12 week scans!! 👏🏻🎉

It seems like ages since I've had mine now (end of Nov) and ages until my 20 week one (mid Jan).

Congrats on your healthy scan 🎊 But be warned I was told at 13 weeks my first baby was a girl at a private scan, and then was told at 20 weeks he was actually a boy! Hopefully it doesn't happen to you, but don't buy anything yet 🙈 Apparently it's not reliable until 16 weeks. Luckily we didn't buy anything, but it was a very odd adjustment as we'd spent 7 weeks thinking about girl's names etc.

BobbySD345 · 15/12/2022 15:15

@NameChange784 @toomanysausages we had the exact same thing but we were nearly 15 weeks when they said girl and he was a boy 1.5 weeks later lol

firsttimelondonmummy · 15/12/2022 16:04

@NameChange784 @BobbySD345, @toomanysausages mentioned a wait on harmony results.
@toomanysausages its very unlikely your harmony will be inaccurate 😊

On vaccinations has anyone decided not to have certain ones?
I don’t think I’m having Covid, I just don’t think there’s enough research into it and it’s long term effects.
I’ve had two myself but just not comfortable having one pregnant.
I also got Covid not long after being double jabbed 🤦🏻‍♀️ there’s too many variants now for any decent level of immunity.
I was actually more sick when I caught it the second time after my jab.
I’ve also decided not to go to Asia in February due to not wanting to have certain jabs.
I had flu in September so been holding off (will likely have in Jan)

justbelieve · 15/12/2022 18:23

@firsttimelondonmummy I haven’t gone for my 3rd booster for covid and not sure if I will.

I got my flu jab yesterday at my 12 week scan, I wasn’t sure at first and asked so many questions as I’ve never had it before, but they were really good with me and said given it to pregnant women for almost 50 years so I think it’s safe to say it’s perfectly safe 👍🏻

firsttimelondonmummy · 15/12/2022 18:32

@justbelieve flu I’m definitely gonna do but I do believe catching it gives you a few months natural immunity and I got it right at the start of my pregnancy hence holding off for a wee bit :)

I caved and booked sex scan for 31st. I'll be 16+6 weeks. DH couldn't wait until end of Jan. Excited for it and taking our DD with us so she can find out too.

Zaalfruit · 16/12/2022 06:43

@BellaTheDarkOverlord how old is your dd - that sounds so exciting !

we took our dd to a scan a few weeks ago and she kept asking the tech if we were having a buffalo, a horse or a cow . She was so excited that the possibility of her sibling being one of the above ( she is 2)

BobbySD345 · 16/12/2022 06:57

@firsttimelondonmummy I wasn't sure about having the flu jab and kept putting it off but then went for my booking appt and there were posters everywhere in the antenatal unit encouraging pregnant women to have the jab because of the dangers of flu to mum and baby. Call me impressionable but I booked it right after lol. They'd probably say the same about Covid but to be fair with it being such a new jab I think I will give it a miss while pregnant. I've had 2 already and I had Covid in June. I think I would feel reluctant about jabs for abroad too, like you said.

BobbySD345 · 16/12/2022 06:59

@Zaalfruit this is hilarious 😂 we took our 3 year old to the last one as we had no sitter but we just didn't tell him what it was and he was so grumpy that day he just sat there silent and didn't ask. We will tell him properly when we know the gender !

B1993 · 16/12/2022 08:14

I was also unsure about having the covid jab at all and I'm still not 100% sure about it, which is why I've been putting it off! I had my flu jab early as work was offering them to all staff though.

When I was on the Due in April thread (before my loss), I expressed my concerns to those ladies about the covid one and they all pretty much all told me I was being daft and it's important to get it! 😅 Someone posted a really helpful link actually, which I can't try to find, about the importance of having it. I also asked my midwife and she said that it's highly recommended because, in the third trimester, pregnant women who contract covid are highly likely to need ventilation support and there's a significant risk that baby will be born preterm.

B1993 · 16/12/2022 08:23

I found this link while looking for the one I mentioned above, which might be helpful: www.tommys.org/pregnancy-information/news-and-blogs/covid-19-vaccine-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding

I've had a quick scan and it's very much in agreement that you should be fully vaccinated but does suggest not having AstraZeneca. It's obviously a very personal decision though!

Baby3herewego · 16/12/2022 08:47

Finally the time has come for my 12 week scan. I’m 12+2 today. Still throwing up daily and nauseous pretty much 24/7.

LT103 · 16/12/2022 08:47

I went for my flu jag when I was around 8 weeks and got my covid at same time. However I have asthma and was down for getting both anyway. I’ve been fine after it and no ill effects to me or baby but I did have some reservation before it and did a bit of reading around too. It’s just so hard to know what to do for the best isn’t it?

firsttimelondonmummy · 16/12/2022 11:03

@B1993 the vaccination doesn’t stop you getting Covid though it is just supposed to dampen the effects which for me wasn’t the case I actually got my worst bout of Covid after two vaccines.
It was also an extremely rushed process to get the vaccine out and it’s not even been on the market 3 years so just not enough research for me personally.
Great if you do feel confident enough though I just don’t feel personally with so many mutations and variants unless you are boosting every time one is announced you are much better off.
Flu though I’ll definitely have in Jan ☺️

tigerlily0 · 16/12/2022 11:44

I personally don't get the flu jab and won't during pregnancy. Also not going to get the covid jab, already had the original 2- don't think there's enough evidence imo

tigerlily0 · 16/12/2022 11:46

On another note I'm 16+2 today and the last few days because my sickness has gone and I'm not as exhausted I haven't felt much pregnant during the day- by evening my tummy is a round ball and my SPD starts playing up. But today iv been getting the cutest fluttery kicks. I'm so happy it's like baby telling me, it's ok I'm still here mum. Have my 16 week appt next week where I can hopefully hear baby heartbeat. Such a long wait til the 20 week scan in January

Dewintergarden · 16/12/2022 16:46

Hello all my nipt test came back low risk for all and I'm having a baby girl. I'm so happy as we all wanted a girl and I was positive it was a boy!

NalaNana · 16/12/2022 17:35

I had the flu jab after my 12 week scan and have voiced hesitation over the covid jab three times now (booking appointment, 12 week scan and 15 week midwife appointment) and I've been surprised at the lack of enthusiasm from HCP towards it. Each time they've just said "ah well here's a leaflet" and nothing more! From what I've read it's strongly advised to have it, so I was shocked that the HCPs weren't more persuasive or bothered. Tbh it made me a bit less bothered. Still not decided!

(I'm not generally anti vax and I've had the first two + the booster (and covid!) but I've heard some anecdotal things from friends that make me uneasy about it!)
