I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Chanhedforthis Welcome. Did you escape the Hyperemesis scourge with your first pregnancy? Sorry you are bed bound. What meds have they got you on?
kingfisher657 Welcome. Congratulations on your pregnancy. As Cyclizine is not working as well as last time, it might be worth asking the surgery for Xonvea, if they haven't tried that with you yet, as it has helped many on here. Also, an anti acid can help a lot, such as Omprazole. Hopefully, as it eases for most sufferers at some point between 14 and 21 weeks, and it eased for you in the second tri last time, it will improve for you again round that time. Have you got help with your LO, rest being so important with this?
Newmother321 Sorry to hear of the miscarriage scare. That is very upsetting. It is very difficult to rest enough with a toddler, and I hope some others on here can give good advice about that. As Chanhedforthis says, help from family and friends, if available, can be invaluable.

Thanks Lucinda. I'll ring the GP on Monday to ask about Xonvea. My reading suggests it can be hard to find in the UK, which makes me nervous as my local pharmacy seems to always be out of stock of things. But maybe worth a try. The vomiting started this morning - 2 weeks earlier than last pregnancy even though I wasn't taking any meds at that point last time! So not a great sign...

Last pregnancy I also tried prochlorperazine (stopped working within a week) and metaclopramide (made me feel so jittery and restless and awful and didn't do anything for the sickness).

How would I know if omeprazole would help? I don't think I have any signs of acid reflux or anything.

@StrongSeedling sorry to hear you had to be admitted but glad you are feeling a bit better now with medication and dietician support.

I am doing okay. Had to deliver my baby early at 34 weeks so my hyperemises is finally over! I had the nausea right up until my baby was born. Afterwards I asked for a second pot of tea as I hadn't been able to drink any while I was pregnant! Baby is in NICU but is doing okay.

Thank you @LucindaE and all the other ladies for all of your support and guidance on dealing with a HG pregnancy. I am so relieved it is finally over. For the first time since Christmas, I can enjoy food again. I don't know myself.

LucindaE · 15/07/2023 20:53

QueenBee22 Congratulations on baby, and I am so glad baby is doing well.
StarBrewSmileFlowers I'm happy that this thread helped during your pregnancy.
Kingfisher657 I do hope they offer Xonvea. I have heard that anti acids can help nausea even if you don't experience acidity, but I am not sure how accurate that is, as so many with Hyperemesis do have acidity. It might well be worth asking if it might help.

I must set up and link another thread tomorrow, I think.

Just spoke to the GP, apparently Xonvea is on the NHS black list in my area - how can this be when it's been approved nationally?! Instead we're going to combine cyclizine with prochlorperazine (which I think did something last pregnancy but not enough) and I'll try to find a vitamin B6 supplement which together with cyclizine should mimic Xonvea. Hopefully that all together will be enough...the GP suggested ondansetron at first but I'm a bit nervous to jump straight to that at only 6 and a half weeks.

Whenever I vomit I get so dizzy that I can't stand up, for hours - anyone else experience this?

StrongSeedling · 17/07/2023 18:26

@QueenBee22 Huge congratulations that you have met your baby! Glad little one is doing well, take each day as it comes, and even though early delivery isn’t ideal it seems you have some relief from HG which is also great news. I can tell how happy you are to be enjoying food and tea again! Delighted for you and your family that you can start your lives together. I hadn’t heard of nausea lasting so long into a pregnancy, you’re stronger for that. Thinking of you, sending big hugs and hope baby is ready to go home soon!

@kingfisher657 for your dizziness, your blood pressure could be quite low, be careful of fainting.

@LucindaE well worth starting a new thread soon, it’s been a great
support.

LucindaE · 17/07/2023 19:26

Strongseedling I am glad this thread has helped you.
Kingfisher657 I agree with Strongseedling, that sounds like very low blood pressure. It can be a bit of a menace, as she says. Could the surgery give advice about that, so as to avoid fainting?

Hi all, this thread has been so helpful. Thank you to everyone. I was diagnosed with hg after multiple stints in emergency around 4wks for dehydration and constant vomiting. Zofran every 8 hrs wasn’t making enough of a difference (couldn’t even keep water down) and I was finally prescribed a nightly phenergan suppository around week 8. I’ve been taking it for almost 4 weeks now and had my first appt with my Dr. I tried to explain how severe the nausea was but it’s difficult to explain when she was seeing me fairly functional. She suggested since I am further along and doing better I try to taper off the 25mg phenergan suppository at night and I tried skipping it last night but I’m now so sick again. Unable to keep anything down, constantly nauseous. I called the office and the nurse told me to try ginger and b6 because it’s a different point in my pregnancy and it might work this time. She gave me a ton of advice that’s pretty unhelpful like eating small meals. She said if it gets really bad again and I can’t keep down water for 24 hours I can take the phenergan but it’s better to not take it. At some point I feel like I have to just make the decision to continue taking the phenergan even though it’s not ideal according to my doctor. I have plenty of it left and can get refills. Has anyone else had to make this choice? I never expected to be medicated the entire time but I also can’t imagine going through this cycle of going in to emergency for IVs and being told the same things over and over. At least with the phenergan I was able to keep liquids and food down, as well as sleep at night, even if I was still nauseous all day. Just looking for some reassurance that others have been in this situation where they’re essentially deciding their own treatment. Sending a hug to everyone on here.

Hello there! Just an update! Had my little bundle of joy last week (39+1) via cs (breech presentation). And let me tell you, I cant believe how no longer sick i am. There is light at the end of it. Just now im faced with the other problems of pist pregnancy lol (cs recovery and breastfeeding hiccups).

keep the faith and stay strong

Mamash · 28/11/2023 20:43

Congratulations @Rohise
So happy for you!

I have 2.5 weeks to go and I'm so looking forward to it... I haven't been sick for a while but still have hypersalivation and severe acid reflux that leave me nauseous round the clock...

Rohise · 29/11/2023 02:28

you can do it @Mamash

The last few days can seem forever, with the nausea or acidity still lingering plus the heaviness of the last trimester. But keep the faith and youll have a gift before the year ends. 🙂
