I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

There aren’t many of us are there @LucindaE (I guess that’s a good thing though) to be honest I feel fraudulent being here as I’m 8 weeks tomorrow and haven’t vomited yet! (I’ve been reluctant to write those words or say them out loud in case I jinx something).
The only time I don’t feel sick though is when I am eating or I’m full from a proper meal, not a snack 🙈🐷

QueenBee22 · 05/01/2023 21:49

@heartbroken22 sorry to hear you had such a bad day. I couldn't look at the vegetables in the supermarket without gagging. I've been getting my shopping delivered. If this is an option for you I'd definitely consider it. Supermarkets were a big no go for me with all the food smells inside in them!

PumpkinDart · 05/01/2023 22:59

I'm 19th July so a way to go!

mallowmoon93 · 05/01/2023 23:00

@PumpkinDart I'm the 22nd July so far, if that makes you feel a bit better haha

Charlotte1256 · 05/01/2023 23:15

I’m due 16th July!

heartbroken22 · 06/01/2023 00:12

@LucindaE thank you
@QueenBee22 I might have to just send hubby to get the essentials and not go myself. Only 6 months to go. I'm due July 6th.

I sent my husband and sister the pregnancy support emails and they were amazed. Husband didn't realise how bad it was for me and I thought he did after 4 pregnancies with it.

I have a strange phobia of my house. Like 'the smell' makes me sick and as soon as I go outside I feel okay. Same if I visit my parents house. I wonder what it could be. My daughters teacher kept saying to me try some crackers and said how long does it normally last for you? 2 months? 3 months? I was like no it's the full 9 months. It's an illness some women get in pregnancy. She felt sorry for me and said gosh that must be exhausting try having crackers. I wanted to die laughing and said yeah course I will! I wish I never told her I was pregnant but she kept asking my child if everyone was okay at home. My dd5 told her yeah they are but mummy was 'vomiting alot all day!'.

I'm okay today but I was really upset this morning. Our landlord has only given us 2 months to move out and find a new house. It will be stressful. I hope my hg gets better for me to get out of bed and find places!!

PumpkinDart · 06/01/2023 05:56

@heartbroken22 I've had 4 HG pregnancies and I know the feeling my husband seems to think I'm conditioned to just get on with it now. It isn't any easier and if anything this pregnancy has felt as bad/ worse than my first.

Are any of you struggling with sleep? I've had 3 hours the night before last and 2 hours last night. I am running on fumes.

Charlotte1256 · 06/01/2023 07:45

@heartbroken22 I’m very similar in terms of the smell! The smell of being downstairs in my house makes me feel terrible, whereas I’m a bit better upstairs!

heartbroken22 · 06/01/2023 08:48

@PumpkinDart oh gosh yeah the same he once said you've done it before you will cope. The worst one was when I wanted to terminate again because I thought I wouldn't live and he said ohh it's because you've been given that option before. I'm struggling with sleep for the past 2 days too. I've had around 3-4hours today. I've got a cold which has helped not feeling the hg as much when I vomit. Especially in the mornings.

heartbroken22 · 06/01/2023 08:49

@Charlotte1256 yeah same here. I could happily stay in bed upstairs all day or even sit in the bathroom. But downstairs I feel overwhelmed and can sense the nausea rising. Gosh. I hope it gets better for us. I know it will.

MrsJdot · 06/01/2023 19:10

So hyperemesis has finally hit me at 8 weeks, I have been hospitalised for 1-2 days, given fluids and anti-sickness meds. Was sent home with cyclizine and prochlorperazine but they are not working at all., I have vomited about 4 times since being back home. I have a 7 month old to look after and I don’t know how I will cope at all. Think I will have to ask for Ondansetron or else will end up in A and E again.

QueenBee22 · 06/01/2023 19:27

@heartbroken22 definitely get someone to go to the shops for you. Shops are big no go for me anyway too much food and smells.

I completely relate to the smell of our own house causing nausea. I am so much better in other houses. Called to a cousin a few days ago and my nausea went completely while I was there, it was the best I had felt in days.
My mother moved out of our family home many moons ago and in with her sister due to 'smells' of our house making her nauseous and causing vomiting. She stayed away for 6 months.

I asked my GP today for anti nausea meds as I am nauseous all the time but they won't give anything until I am 12 weeks. I am 8 weeks tomorrow so don't know how I will manage another 4 weeks of this. Anyone else get anti nausea meds before 12 weeks from their GP? Or will I have to go to hospital? I have a cert for work for next week which is a relief.

QueenBee22 · 06/01/2023 19:35

@PumpkinDart I am about a month after you, 19th August!

LucindaE · 06/01/2023 19:46

MrsJdot Sorry to hear of the about the admission and that those drugs aren't working I do hope that you can get Ondansettron or anyway, some combination of meds that work. It must be very tough with a seven-month-old baby.
QueenBee22 A very good idea about having shopping delivered.
Sorry to hear, too, about sufferers' sleep problems.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

@QueenBee22 yes I had them from early, I had a history of Hyperemesis and my GP prescribed me them as soon as I found out I was pregnant to try to head it off.

I'm so rough today 😭 I can relate with smells, my husband booked me a hotel the other night just so I could relax and it felt so much nicer.

Praying I sleep tonight I'm exhausted which is making it worse, I've made my throat bleed today being sick 😭😭

Hope those feeling unwell feel better soon ❤️

QueenBee22 · 06/01/2023 19:59

@PumpkinDart Thank you, I have my first appointment with consultant the end of this week so I will suffer on until then and hopefully she will give me something.

That's awful to hear you are so sick your throat is bleeding that's horrendous. I hope you get some sleep and tomorrow is a better day for you ❤

LucindaE · 07/01/2023 14:48

PumpkinDart It was nice of your husband to book a hotel for you to be more comfortable. I hope you get a good night tonight.
QueenBee22 Hoping you can get some effective meds soon.

I'm so jealous of all the nice husbands you guys have. My husbands awful and claims I fake my illness. I hope God gives him a taste of his own medicine. Feeling extra miserable today. I've got a chest infection (I think) or flu so when I vomit bile I can't taste anything. I feel like I should have had an abortion because of the lack of support in my house but nah hopefully my beautiful child will be my ray of sunshine rather than the a hole I have for a husband 🙏😇

PumpkinDart · 07/01/2023 18:06

Oh @heartbroken22 I'm sorry. Have you got other children at home? It's hard when people don't understand, to be fair my husband hasn't always been supportive there's times he's been an arse and has felt like I've been a drama queen. I hope you start feeling better soon xx

mallowmoon93 · 07/01/2023 18:17

Ahh @heartbroken22 that sounds rubbish! I think my husband thought I was being dramatic until I had to go to hospital, he's been spot on ever since.

Remember to reach out of you need to! I couldn't imagine doing this without support. You're right though it will be worth it in the end! X

Charlotte1256 · 07/01/2023 21:14

Really struggling tonight, I just feel SO sick, I’m 13 weeks tomorrow and just don’t know how much longer I can do this, going into my seventh week of struggling.

PumpkinDart · 07/01/2023 23:18

Ah @Charlotte1256 I feel exactly the same. I've thrown everything up today again, almost 13 weeks and things aren't getting better. I'm due back in work Monday but so anxious that I'm not well enough to be. We can do this ❤️ 1/3 of the pregnancy down, 2/3s to go and hopefully it won't all be this miserable xx

Charlotte1256 · 08/01/2023 00:18

@PumpkinDart I’m the same re work! It’s so stressful isn’t it especially when we don’t need added pressure. I’m due back Tuesday. Take care xx

IHaveBeenFallingFor30Minutes · 08/01/2023 09:54

Flowers to all of you who are suffering.

I am 35+3 today and the nausea is still crippling. This is my second HG pregnancy and it had eased off considerably by 20 weeks with DS so I am finding things hard.

I have a section booked for 39+1 so there is light at the end of the tunnel now. OH and I were musing about the past 6/7 months recently and it's a miracle we have got through it, but we have.

I was on ondansetron from week 6 and still ended up hospitalised twice. I was put on steroids at 9 weeks and they helped massively but the side effects have been hideous - I have Gestational Diabetes and a massive baby who is over the 100th centile, hence the section. I have also put on 4 stone so far but they stopped the vomiting. I came off them about week 27/28 and wish I wouldn't have now because mornings are still awful for nausea.

I just wanted to say as well that I can totally relate to the aversion to your own home that some of you have experienced. I used to hate being in the house, particularly the bedroom. I do still feel like that at times!

This thread is great for support and massive thanks to @LucindaE for her continued presence - thank you!!
