Weird things (not food) that bring back the feeling of morning sickness

I know people sometimes find that if they smell a food that triggered pregnancy sickness, they can still feel sick years later.

When I was pregnant with DD in 2020 there was a specific song that was on the radio a lot and I still cannot hear it now without feeling sick!

Does anyone else have any non-food things that bring back the sicky feeling?

We had some honey hand wash that made me violently sick when pregnant. Could smell it from two rooms away. There’s a restaurant that I occasionally have breakfast in that always has this same hand wash in the loo. I don’t use the loo there unless absolutely unavoidable as the smell still turns my stomach. It’s been ten years!

Pampers baby wipes

Peaky Blinders. We started watching it when I was just pregnant, and gave up part-way through series 3 because we were finding all the razor blade action too grim. Now even thinking about PB gives me that special pregnant sick feeling again.

A certain hair conditioner, I can't use it anymore even though I've not been pregnant since 2016.

The bbc Peter rabbit programme. When I was laying on the sofa, feeling terrible - I’d put it on for my son to get us through the day. Now whenever it’s on I feel nauseous ha

A particular shampoo I was using - even thinking about the scent of it makes me feel faintly nauseous. I couldn't open the cupboard under the sink in the bathroom for about a year as even though I'd got rid of the shampoo I still felt like I could smell it and it would send me retching.

Ginger bloody biscuits 🤢.

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 17/10/2022 17:38

Also a particular plant in the garden that was flowering at the time - nemesia wisley vanilla. Fortunately it all died off in the snow the following winter or I'd have had to pull it up (while retching, no doubt).

I've never eaten a Jacobs cream cracker to this day. The feel of the dry horrible things in my mouth. Ate way too many to ease morning sickness

trevthecat · 17/10/2022 17:38

Anything vanilla scented

Ever since i was pregnant I've been unable to keep anything in my mouth, say for instance my keys while I've checked my bag to make sure i have everything, without balking.

caffelattetogo · 17/10/2022 17:41

@Alibro79 I'm the same with holding things in my mouth - today it was the ticket in a multi-storey car park!

lollipoprainbow · 17/10/2022 17:51

A perfume from lidls that I wore whilst pregnant and now just reminds me of nausea !

angeltattoo · 17/10/2022 17:53

The sound of a certain toy car beep, makes me queasy every time. My toddler played with it every day when I was pg.

This too!

And sometimes brushing my teeth, which was always a trigger when pg.

Nigella Lawson. My morning sickness with DD2 kicked in right after cooking her Mexican scrambled eggs recipe. Can't look at her face now without feeling queasy. Blush

HeyMicky · 17/10/2022 18:07

Cat sick. The cat was ill on one of the rare occasions of morning sickness I had.

I'm fine with cat poo, dog and child vomit, everything else. But I can't deal with cat sick now

HaveYouSeenNancy · 17/10/2022 18:15

Elnett hairspray. I worked with someone who wore it when I was suffering severe all day sickness and it can now set off my gag reflex from 100 paces, nearly 20 years later.

SaintVal · 17/10/2022 18:16

The Candy Crush music! I was nauseous from 13 weeks and around that time, I used to walk into town to get my lunch then sit somewhere to eat my sandwich and play that game. My son plays it now and it always takes me back to those days.

My Mum said that when she was pregnant with me, the original Spirit In The Sky song was in the charts and every time she heard that throughout her life, it reminded her of feeling sick and she had to turn it off!

Breaking Bad (dc1) - for a while any tv shot of a desert did it

Face masks

busybanana · 17/10/2022 18:24

It's a song for me - The Streets' Never went to Church. Seemed to be playing the whole summer I was first pregnant!

YmeYnot · 17/10/2022 18:27

Mine is a song too, it's cash machine by hard fi, the thought of that song turns my stomach.

I also can't hold anything in my mouth, keys etc with wrenching.

bubble111 · 17/10/2022 18:30

Yes! I thought it was so weird this kept happening. Entirely some CBEEBIES shows (also lying on the sofa feeling like death whilst my toddler was at home). Every time I hear the theme tune now I get a huge wave of nausea come over me 🤢

polkadotpixie · 17/10/2022 18:32

There's a Old Spice deodorant stick that DH used when I was pregnant that he's still banned from due to it making me nauseous and a mango shower gel that I also still can't use

I'm another one that also can't hold anything in my mouth/lips anymore, I thought it was just me!

TheAlmightyGlom · 17/10/2022 18:34

The smell of Himalayan Balsam 🤢
