Weird things (not food) that bring back the feeling of morning sickness

I know people sometimes find that if they smell a food that triggered pregnancy sickness, they can still feel sick years later.

When I was pregnant with DD in 2020 there was a specific song that was on the radio a lot and I still cannot hear it now without feeling sick!

Does anyone else have any non-food things that bring back the sicky feeling?

The smell of oil seed rape is guaranteed to make me feel like I'm going to retch.

The smell of fridges. I know it is close to food but I quite often have to quickly step back before it closes so the air doesn't waft at me! Even worse if it is the work fridge and I hear that soft, sucky noise of it closing!

Yes, I have this too! Awful!

The smell of coffee and bacon
i had sickness all the way through my first pregnancy and came downstairs at my parents,my mother had made ‘real’ coffee and was cooking herself a bacon sandwich-the smell hit me in the face and I just puked all over myself and the floor
i can eat bacon now but have never touched coffee since

i can’t eat extra strong mints either as I lived on them to get rid of the nausea

I also can’t walk past any burger joint, swimming pools,be near anyone smoking or near a bottle of jack Daniel’s/Irish cream/cider as it sets me off again

shes 26 now

My family were watching a television series at the time and all I would hear was the opening track. Whenever I hear that track now I automatically feel sick. Ugh!

Bio oil - the stuff that I applied happily daily when pregnant now makes me boak.

In the night garden and the CBeebies close down music - my morning sickness with my second was always the worst in the evenings at just this time when eldest was 2. Instant nausea if I hear either of them even now

Cucumberbund · 17/10/2022 20:31

Oh I've just realised this is why geranium scented things make me feel sick.
I had a stretch mark cream with geranium scent in it when I was pregnant and had awful morning sickness.

Passmeaplacard · 17/10/2022 20:54

Dior Joy, I wish I hadn’t worn it during the morning sickness stage

Nottodaty · 17/10/2022 20:55

Pregnant 20 years ago - I still can’t stand the smell of Aussie shampoo will make me feel sick instantly.

Fairy non-bio second pregnancy 13 years ago still can’t smell that either!

Sandysandwich · 17/10/2022 21:02

Airwick pure soft cotton air freshener.
I love other cotton/clean linen smells but this one was around when I had morning sickness and I have thrown up at the smell of it and its been years. I can smell it on peoples clothes if they have it in their house its completely revolting to me now.

SpicePearl · 17/10/2022 21:02

The sea grass style Kallax boxes that my kids toys are in. Whenever I get a whiff it takes me right back 😭

FlowerPig · 17/10/2022 21:08

Tiger King. Specifically when one of the staff had half their arm bit off as I was lay in bed eating a pizza trying to curb the sickness. I spewed all over the duvet. Any mention of Tiger King takes me straight back to that moment. Grim.

Putting petrol in the car. The fumes knocked me sick when I was pregnant and even 14 years later I can be transported back to nauseous!

FictionalCharacter · 17/10/2022 21:18

Brushing my teeth. It isn’t the taste of the toothpaste, I’ve tried all sorts instead of mint, it’s the brush in my mouth. Sometimes I actually retch. It’s been 18 years!

QuietLieDown · 17/10/2022 21:34

Seagulls.

A week in Mevagissey, 14 years ago, peak morning sickness. DH was working, I was mostly sat on a park bench with a can of warm, flat coke and my head in my hands. Seagull soundtrack from dawn til dusk. Even thinking about it is making me a little queasy.

Reastie · 17/10/2022 21:37

When I clean my teeth and the foam starts building up in my mouth. It triggers something in me from when I had hg. Also, watching kath and Kim or friends as I watched them in bed when I couldn’t move from ms. Sometimes I get random things that bring it back and I shudder.

scrambledeggy · 17/10/2022 21:42

I'm actually pregnant again at the moment and feeling a bit sick and these are cheering me up no end! I'm so glad it's not just me! @Floydthebarber I can very strongly relate to the fridge one. Not the food, just the fridge air.

Weird one, but when I was pregnant with DS, I worked at a sporting event and we had a table in a marquee set up in a field. That combination smell of marquee and wet grass still makes me want to dry heave. Even the thought of it makes me queasy.

AncientBallerina · 17/10/2022 21:44

For years in was a specific Mr Men story book that I read to my first when pregnant with my second
Is there a Mr Nausea?

FlyingFlamingo · 17/10/2022 21:49

Similar to the bio oil above, Palmers cocoa butter stretch mark cream Envy

Scotabroad24 · 17/10/2022 21:56

Weird one - but any pine scented cleaning products make me baulk. Iwas obsessed with the smell of pince toilet cleaner when I was pg, poured it into the loo multiple times a day just so I could smell it Blush
Cant stand the bloody stuff now!

Scotabroad24 · 17/10/2022 21:57

*pine obviously not pince!

Karmakamelion · 17/10/2022 22:00
