Weird things (not food) that bring back the feeling of morning sickness

I know people sometimes find that if they smell a food that triggered pregnancy sickness, they can still feel sick years later.

When I was pregnant with DD in 2020 there was a specific song that was on the radio a lot and I still cannot hear it now without feeling sick!

Does anyone else have any non-food things that bring back the sicky feeling?

The smell of fridges. I know it is close to food but I quite often have to quickly step back before it closes so the air doesn't waft at me! Even worse if it is the work fridge and I hear that soft, sucky noise of it closing!

Glad it's not just me! Shortly before becoming pregnant I painted a feature wall in our kitchen a shade of mint green. During early pregnancy, "the wall" made me feel sick! So much so I had to paint over it!! That was several years ago, but recently the reception at work had a wall painted a similar colour. I can't even look at it without feeling sick! Envy

'The baby club' theme tune from CBeebies. Watched it a lot with my toddler when I couldn't bear to leave the house at the beginning of pregnancy two. Now I can't even watch it with my baby as I just feel so bleurgh

My oldest DS is 13 and for years every time I saw a Quinny Buzz pram I would feel nauseous as they reminded me so much of my awful morning (all day) sickness.

Havent seen one in years thank god!

Similar to ffloydthebarber, the fridge area at the supermarket, its giving me the boak just thinking about it.

There's a shrub that flowers in late spring with bright blue flowers. There was one outside the GP when I had to go every week to get signed off each time. Each spring, whenever I see one, I feel sick.

I always gag when cleaning my teeth.

Raw steel 🤢 dont smell it much these days as not in the manufacturing industry, but even the thought of it turns my stomach. I ended up quitting my job due to it.

YouPutTheScrewInTheTuna · 17/10/2022 18:47

I'm a celebrity... can't watch it at all without thinking about the horrendous morning sickness I had, especially the eating challenges Envy

YouPutTheScrewInTheTuna · 17/10/2022 18:48

Oh and minty things, especially cleaning teeth!

Solosunrise · 17/10/2022 18:49

East 17: Stay another day
The smell of car tyres

Both still make me feel nauseous nearly 28 years on!

southlondoner02 · 17/10/2022 18:51

There's an album I listened to a lot, even went to see the singer in concert- never been able to listen to it again. Also lots of mens deodorants as I used to walk past the mens locker room at work every day.

The smell of black cherry Yankee candles/car freshener. DH got one for the car when I was early pregnancy with DC2 and I sat in the car then immediately had to get out again. Still can't stand it.

DeePlume · 17/10/2022 18:52

Hugo boss perfume. My area manager came for a visit and was wearing it. Smelling it now makes me gag!

GrannieMainland · 17/10/2022 19:05

The sight of the books I read in the first trimester. I had to give them all away to the charity shop as the covers made me feel so nauseous.

Brendabigbaps · 17/10/2022 19:07

The hairy bikers being on tv! I have distinct memories of watching it whilst lying on the sofa one day with HG.

Mercedes519 · 17/10/2022 19:11

Lemon and ginger tea. It was a godsend at the time as I felt sick all day during the second trimester but now it has the opposite effect!

dragonbreaths · 17/10/2022 19:11

the word Penang. we went there for a holiday, booked before I knew i was pregnant. Spent whole 10 days throwing up, while DH had a bloody fantastic time.
You can buy Penang curry sauce in supermarket and even after 25 years i can't look at the label

AmberGer · 17/10/2022 19:13

Aloe Vera handwash 🤢

pinkycatmum · 17/10/2022 19:14

Bbq sauce

romdowa · 17/10/2022 19:14

Face masks, I always struggled with them but having to wear them with hyperemesis made it so much worse. Putting one on now makes me feel like heaving

mmmmmchocolate · 17/10/2022 19:15

I thought it was just me! I got pregnant in September, started with HG in October. I had just started to collect Little Christmas houses to make a Christmas display. I got three of them and the next year when I got them out they made me feel sick 😷 it was about 6 years later before I could continue buying them… luckily it has passed now and they look rather lovely on display.

Blingismything · 17/10/2022 19:17

A Soft and Gentle deodorant now discontinued and Ralph Lauren Safari perfume. Making me heave now just thinking about the smells.

7Worfs · 17/10/2022 19:20

I had HG and had to introduce my toddler to YouTube… Baby Shark is banned in this house now.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 17/10/2022 19:21

Yep! A particular Taylor Swift album. I like the songs, they just make me feel sick. 🤢

Glad you posted because I mentioned it to a few people who thought I was crazy.

Headabovetheparakeet · 17/10/2022 19:22

A specific Molton Brown shower gel.
