I had a list of questions for just in case they tried to offer me induction. Having had previous section, was worried about it. In the event, not needed, but here is the list:
Why do you feel I need to be induced?
Am I or my baby in imminent danger?
Specific benefits of induction in my case?
And the risks?
What percentage of women in this hospital who are induced go on to have caesarean or instrumental delivery?
What kind of monitoring? And how can you adapt it so I can move around?
Choices of induction?
Alternatives?
Can I have a think about it for a couple of days?
Scans are only so accurate. Just looked at my notes: she was scanned at 38+5 weighing 3378g. Born at 39+6, weight 3280g. My SIL was induced for apparently massive baby - was totally normal weight, just tall. Another friend told she should have a section as the baby was measuring huge - totally normal size.
If you have time to read a book, I found the positive birth book really helpful, or there are online YouTube videos about birth. Most useful thing I found was about having calm surroundings - easier said than done sometimes, I know - so that the oxytocin kicks in. Dark, nice music, nice smells. Somewhere you feel safe.
If you don't want induction, they cannot make you have it. But I get how scary it is to be told you're expecting a whopper, so you might want to give it a go for that reason.
Also, how useless is your consultant appointment? They don't want you to go over, but no earlier appointments? Wtf?
