lackaDAISYcal · 13/03/2008 14:46

I've posted this on the AN thread as well; so apologies if anyone is having to read it twice.

I've just come back from my scan. We saw the yolk and sac and it's all in the right place and size for the dates (she put me at 6 weeks exactly, EDD 6th November), and we saw a tiny flickering foetal pole, but only measuring 2mm. The sonographer said it was "too small to assess viability" and noted on the report that the embryo wasn't seen, but she said everything was looking very good otherwise. I'm a bit disappointed as we saw a heartbeat at 6+3 with DD, and this hasn't really reassured me. But, the sonographer explained if conception happened a few days after I OVd then this would be right. I'm thinking it must be a slow lazy sperm that fertilised this one, so probably a boy .

Please tell me that this is OK and that I shouldn't be worrying and should I convince DH we need to go back in a couple of weeks?

off to catch up.

rainrain · 13/03/2008 17:00

Thanks CriCri

Good luck with the trials, and be strong smiles.

And kate all the best for tomorrow.

After literally begging the lady at the US department today to no avail, and then bursting into tears about it , DP just told me to book a private scan and be done with it, and so i did. They were brilliant actually, booked me in straight away for Tuesday. So fingers and everything else crossed that bean is still ok..... if it is I can then relax and try to enjoy my DD's birthday and planned hols.

I have asked them just for a general scan (just want to know if bean is still growing in there) but providing it is, what is all your opinions of getting nuchal done too? (we only get bloods on NHS here..)

rainrain · 13/03/2008 17:12

Just read your post Ellie Don't worry - it seems scary (even looking back) but at the time it just takes you over - you just go with it (not much other choice is there!?) And by 41 weeks last time i COULDN'T WAIT!!!

alittlebitshy · 13/03/2008 17:50

I had private scan with nuchal stuff. Wasn't overly bothered about getting the nuchal done, but am glad I did now......

DonDons · 13/03/2008 18:11

Hello to all the new ladies - healthy and well....

Rainrain - my '12' weeks scan was exactly the same as yours...so good news about your private scan

Kate - good luck tomorrow xx

LOL Ellie! We went at the weekend too and I think the gravity of the siutation is starting to hit me too! I'm hoping I'll just wake up one morning with Egg in my arms after no pain or labour!(also, our classes were rubbish apart from the tour around the labour wards ggggggrrrrrrrr)

Daisy - try and take comfort from the sonographer not being worried - I was always told AT LEAST 7 weeks before a heartbeat could be detected (although I know some people have seen them before)

Only one week left at work for me now - how did that happen???

EllieG · 13/03/2008 19:46

Ta for reassurance ladies x

Forgot to say before, welcome lots to all new knicker-checkers

Good news about getting a private scan rainrain will keep all my fingers and toes crossed til tues. Which might make me a bit cramped, but I will do it for you

splishsplosh · 13/03/2008 20:19

Daisy - on the pg threads there are loads of people who didn't see a heartbeat at 6 weeks, but went back a couple of weeks later, and it was fine. I think the main thing is it's the right size, but if you have the chance to go back in a few weeks, then at least that should put your mind at ease - we all know how easy it is to worry.

Rainrain - I hope your scan goes well. I guess to make a decision on paying for an NT test the important thing is to think about what you would do if you were told you had a high risk. The scan has a better detection rate than just a blood test, but would you go on to have cvs/amnio? Also depends if you can afford it - round here I think the NT scan costs about £160, though we get it on the NHS. With dd, the scan was on the last day they can do it, but she was too big for their computer prog to work out the chance, so I had a blood test at 16 weeks, but knew I wouldn't risk mc to have an invasive test even if high risk, as I couldn't imagine terminating the pg for Downs. But other people really want to know for sure.
Sorry - long rambling, hope it makes sense

I had my dating/NT scan today and everything was fine . It now measures exactly right for my dates (was put at 3 days less pg at my 7 week scan), it lay on its back, bum up, doing some boxing! Also had a little swim, its legs looked like a frog! Everything looked normal, and dd sat as good as gold through it all. Not sure what she made of it, as I haven't talked to her about another baby.

Kate - everything crossed for you tomorrow, really hope it goes well, and maybe you'll feel you can join us on the Sept thread

Ellie - didn't think the classes were meant to make you feel worse! Just concentrate on the end result

rainrain · 13/03/2008 20:46

Thanks splish and ellie. TBH I am just concerned at the moment with getting a general look in there, and like you splish, i don't think I would nec. opt for the amnio or anything if I was high risk... the result can't change either way and I would deal with whatever comes along. Had a discussion with DP about it and we are just going to stick with the bloods (providing all well on Tuesday of course.....)

lackaDAISYcal · 13/03/2008 22:44

thanks for the reassurance . I've just been reading Lesley Regan and am more reassured. with DD they moved my date forward by a week as well, so it was probably a 7+3 foetus, not 6+3, and also looking at the scan photos from today, she has measured a foetal pole length of 2.4mm. I'm not sure why the report says "embryo not seen for this stage of pregnancy" as she pointed it out to us on the screen .

G'night all

lackaDAISYcal · 13/03/2008 22:45

great news on your scan splishsplosh

daisy I was told by my lovely Swedish gynae (before she went back to Sweden, sob) that you can't rely on picking up HB before 8 weeks. She did her own scans, which were internal (have you SEEN the giant dildo thing they use for those!? ) coz you can see more and don't have to rely so much on mega-full bladder. So don't worry at all about today, sounds like everything all in right place and as would be expected. But then once you've had a MC there's no such thing as not worrying .
Healthy and well, healthy and well. xx
(And f'ing GINORMOUS, in my case....how can there possibly be enough room for another 8 or 9 weeks in there?!)

lackaDAISYcal · 14/03/2008 09:26

thanks zammummy

I've had two internal scans in the past...not a comfortable experience at all, oh no!

It does seem at this stage that you can't get any bigger...but you can and you will .

healthy and well xx

ronshar · 14/03/2008 11:01

Good news on the scan front ladies. It is always marvelous that feeling you get when watching your baby swimming around.
Welcome to the new girls. This thread is an absolute lifesaver.

I had my booking with midwife yesterday. I hopefully will get Nuchal scan next week or week after. Waiting for appointment. I am very nervous but at least we dont have to pay for it this time. My local hospital is out doing itself on it maternity care. The threat of closure seems to have done wonders!!
I also used my heart listening thingy this morning. Def heard heart beat yipee.

I hope all is well for everybody today.

rainrain · 14/03/2008 11:07

Hello Ronshar - remind me how far along you are? I used the doppler about a week ago, and heard it (I think) and then this week a couple of times and couldn't pick any sound up even though 12 weeks so panic!!!! Well all will be revealed next Tuesday.

lackaDAISYcal · 14/03/2008 11:15

rainrain, try not to worry; my very experienced mw couldn't find DDs heartbeat at 13 weeks and she has years and years of experience. she told me not to worry, but the 10 days I had to wait for my scan were excruciating.

If the baby is floating towards the back it can be very difficult to pick anything up, so I'm sure it's just a positioning thing

I also read on a recent thread that a doppler shouldn't be used until after 12weeks because of the noise it creates in the uterus, but am not sure how accurate that is.

rainrain · 14/03/2008 11:27

Thanks Daisy. After last time I tried (and had tried a couple of times this week) I decided to give up and post it back. It is just a temptation to try it all the time otherwise, and a panic when I can't find it (too late about not using it in first trimester - would have thought that they would be more closely regulated if that was really the case... probably more a case of watching how often it is used etc)

Either way i need to take comfort that I have, for the first time in 4 pregnancies, made it past the 12 week mark with no bleed or m/c so far. Trying to keep positive!! And that IS something.....

ronshar · 14/03/2008 13:01

Rainrain. I am 10+5. I have a heart listening device rather than Doppler. It magnifies the actuall sounds. A doppler takes sounds from inside uterus etc and changes it into electronic sound. I have struggled to find a heartbeat for 10days but I most def did hear one today after I lay down for about 5mins. It is a bit too early I know and I havent listened for 3 days as got a bit paranoid about not finding h/b again. It is very hard to get a good trace this early.

rainrain · 14/03/2008 13:17

Well it is good news that you found it anyway Ronshar! and each week that passes, it is supposed to get better and better......Great about the scan too. Oh can't wait (but also terrified of) Tuesday......

lackaDAISYcal · 14/03/2008 13:21

rainrain, it's brilliant at you have made it this far and I'm sure everything is fine. Things will start to get easier in the worry department once you have passed the first trimester.

rainrain · 14/03/2008 14:17

Oh feel much better about the healthcare system now - the lady must have taken to heart my sob story yesterday (was kinda sobbing just phoned to offer me a cancellation for next Thursday - ok two more days to wait, but much more convenient. Thank you v. much nice lady!! And thanks Daisy too, you ladies are all so kind. This site has really helped me this time round.

perkypopsy · 14/03/2008 14:47

Hi Ladies, have been trying to keep my secret but am bursting to tell you all
Rescheduled my scan for yesterday (just phoned and said had a MMC at 10 weeks and too scared to wait til 13 weeks) - anyway
a lovely bouncing mini-pops was there for me to see and I am 11+3 so I gained 3 days .
Still wandering around in shock that all okay - I woke up this morning and whispered to myself "I'm going to have a baby" ha ha
Anyhoo - 20 week scan is next milestone - am going to try to stay calm til then - have decided as long as I feel as ill as I have for the past 6 weeks is nothing to worry about
Hope everyone okay and enjoying their Friday
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

rainrain · 14/03/2008 14:52

Fantastic news Popsy . You'd better crack open a bottle of appletizer to celebrate!!

perkypopsy · 14/03/2008 15:30

I know - I wish I fancied soem champers but no such luck - still can't think of anything I'd like to eat or drink ever
Not long for you now ! I keep worrying I cheated by getting it done before the golden 12 week mark but have to remind myself more chance of everything being right than is of being wrong!
