We're going for what we see as a balanced view. We are going to opt for finding out biological sex but already planning a neutral nursery, creams, sage green that sort of vibe. Clothes wise we'd probably dress our kids to the gender norm, I probably won't put a baby boy in a dress for example, we see celebrities do that stuff usually to make a political statement but we're not about making our child a political statement personally 😂 of course if they express otherwise at an older age that's for them to decide, but toys will be a wide variety from day 1, mostly because we know the influence that has on their development as a well-rounded child!

@SIUUU congratulations! Im due 27th but will deliver early.

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 15:12

@SIUUU that's very sweet of you to be posting and asking for tips to help your wife! Big congratulations 💞
I think just have faith the nausea etc will stop eventually (hopefully around the time the first trimester ends!) And try to support her as much as you can, which I'm sure you are.
I'd also recommend ensuring you support her in her birth choices and learn about the process too, as birth partners are incredibly valuable. That's still a wee while away tho! There is a book called Men, love and birth which is good, and the positive birth company digital course is great - both my partner and I did it before our daughter's birth!

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 15:15

@Wisher88 we don't really have any gender 'norms' in our house. My brother is trans (FtoM) so we've never subscribed to gender specific anything. Number 3 (we have four boys so I say that with lots of love) painted his room a pale pink and just recently I got him to toss out his old, stained, unicorn backpack, he'd used it for a few years (he desperately needed a new one). Our kids just kinda wear what they like, play with what they like etc. Last year, for Halloween, number 2 (he's 8) was a light fury, the lady dragon from how to train your dragon. He just liked the costume a lot and was happy with it. We found out the biological sexes but this time we're going for a surprise in the OR! Lol

Thank you :). We were told that was a provisional date and because it is our first we could be up to 2 weeks later than that. That would be quite funny though as my wifes late nana was born on 13th May and it would be quite canny if she/he was born on that date!

Ahhhh thanks for your help. I will buy that book.

It is our first pregnancy so this is all new and wonderful for both of us. My main concern is I work away a lot so will be looking to try and minimise that as much as I can. I will support her any way that I can. All decisions based around the physical birth etc I have left to her. I just said I would support her with whatever she decides.

@Skylark1990 and @SIUUU this is going to sound crazy, but get a bottle of lemon juice and just smell it. @SIUUU have your wife smell it. I never thought it would work, but I never had any nausea or vomiting with my pregnancies and this time I do and I couldn't stand for it! The internet said to smell a lemon so I just sat sniffing a bottle of lemon juice you use to mix drinks/lemonade, and it really did work!

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 15:20

@SIUUU you remind me of my husband. He was ALL in from the word GO! Still is! He knows as much about pregnancy as I do and this is our 5th baby! 😂 best of luck to you and your Mrs.!

Oooh I will surprise her with a bottle of lemon juice when I get back! It'll be the best gift she will ever get off me!😂

Hello everyone. I am a soon to be dad who has a baby due (we believe based on what the midwife said) on 26th April! I was someone who was very non plussed about having kids but once we found out about the pregnancy, it is all I can ever think about. We went for a reassurance scan at 6 weeks and was amazed by what I saw. Even managed to see a little heart beating away. It took my breath away. I feel so sorry for my wife as she feels nausea all the time (the mood swings too.... YIKES!!) and I do my best to comfort her and make her feel as well as she can. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated as I am quite clueless despite reading everything I can.

Massive congrats to everyone expecting on this thread. I wish each and every one of you a happy and comfortable pregnancy!

Goodness, this made me tear up!! Your wife is very lucky to have you - welcome to the crazy journey 😂 x

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 15:36

@SIUUU if the lemon juice works for her, please come back and delete us know. I need to know if I'm not crazy... I wondered if maybe it worked because I thought it worked lol!

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 15:37

@SIUUU don't delete us 🤦 stupid fat fingers! Please LET us know 😂😂

mummatara · 14/09/2022 16:20

@Releasethehoundss @SIUUU 🤣🤣🤣 don't gooooooo that made me lol I want to know if this works too everyone in the office will think I'm bonkers 😂

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 16:25

@mummatara my fingers have minds of their own. 😂 I wish other ladies would try it and tell me if it works for them. I never experienced morning sickness, I had vertigo with my first, but I thought it was something else unrelated to hormones. Wish I'd had the lemon juice back then... But this time I can literally taste my own stomach contents in my throat sometimes and it's god awful! Just don't squeeze the bottle too robustly, you do NOT want lemon juice squirting up your nose!

I will be sure to let you know! I am also very intrigued and wonder if it will help with hangover related nausea 😂

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 16:28

Out of curiosity, are any of you having repeat csections? Or more than 4? This will be my 5th! 🙃 if I should make another thread elsewhere, I'm happy to do that, I've just never had anyone to share a pregnancy experience with in real life.. Never had anyone due at the same time as me 😂😂

mummatara · 14/09/2022 16:30

@Releasethehoundss 🤣 oh god you'd be smelling it forever 😳 well I had constant nausea with my last two but this one I just have swirling stomach acid sickness all day and lots of gagging. If I ate with nausea it went but this one just wants me to feel sick all day 🙄 eating or not. And lots of stuff makes me gag. If I go for my scan on Monday and the EPU tell me there's nothing in there I'm officially hating my hormones because they are mean bastards

mummatara · 14/09/2022 16:30

Tuesday even not going on Monday 🤦🏼‍♀️

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 16:46

@mummatara I am thinking very positive thoughts for you, but I have had that same fear. This pregnancy has been a roller coaster! I went to the er (I'm in US) with bleeding at 5 weeks and just thought I was having another mc, but the technician found a gestational sac with nothing inside (yet) I was told to see my regular OB within two days. I did just that, and they did blood work at that time. My regular OB then referred me to a fetal medicine specialist (this was all more because if I was having another mc, having had three in the last year, they wanted to try and figure out why it kept happening) and I would have been 5 weeks 6 days the day I saw her. She did an ultrasound and told me that there was nothing in my uterus and she suspects the bleeding I had 6 days prior was in fact a mc... So I left, and on the drive home she called to say my blood work was back and that my hCG was increasing since the last panel I had done two days before at my reg. OB, and that she thinks I was having an ectopic pregnancy, which was serious. She called it a pregnancy of unknown location. She said to go to the ER if I had any pain or bleeding.
I went the next day because I was having pain in my right side and the tech did an ultrasound and found a gestational sac right where it should be, measuring 12mm - exactly 6 weeks... So I, again, saw the fetal medicine specialist the next week and took the report from the emergency room. She gave me another ultrasound and said there was nothing in my uterus and she was sorry but the miscarriage was complete... I told her about the paperwork I'd given her nurse, and after she looked it over (apparently wasn't going to bother!) she sent me upstairs to radiology for a scan. Thirty minutes after the specialist told me my uterus was empty my husband was sat there staring at a 7 week embryo complete with heartbeat and all 🤦🤦 and get this: all of my scans were transvaginal! 🙄🙄 I still have no explanation, except the Dr. thinks maybe something was wrong with her machine in her clinic... My husband thinks this baby is the master at hide and seek... We shall see... I'm hopeful for you that you get good news... going my my LMP, a sac was visible at 5 weeks but there was no yolk or even a fetal pole (and was the case at 6 weeks when I had a scan at the ER, they saw sac but nothing in it). It wasn't until I had that scan at the radiologists that there was everything - sac, yolk, pole, heartbeat!
I'm hoping for good news for you and I'm sorry this has been so long!

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 17:20

@mummatara I forgot to add, idk if it matters but I was told it may, I have what the Dr. calls a tilted uterus... Okay, y'all, be easy now! Have a good one!

AliceinSlumberland · 14/09/2022 19:23

Omg @Releasethehoundss that is so incredibly stressful! How amazing that baby was there all along 💕 Definitely good at hide and seek.

Had my booking in appointment today which went great. Midwife was totally lovely and completely fine about me wanting an elective section, I was worried I’d have to fight my corner a bit but it wasn’t like that at all.

Releasethehoundss · 14/09/2022 19:30

@AliceinSlumberland I'm hoping your pregnancy is healthy, and your section goes smoothly. I was offered a Vbac with my second (my first was emergency c) but I decided a repeat was safer. And I will tell you, it's quite handy to know exactly what day I'm delivering. I admire moms that labor, but it's just not something I was ever excited about either way. I was disappointed after my first c but now I'm partial to csections. Its not like I have a choice anymore lol. I've had 4 and this will be my 5th and last. ❤ I'm so happy your MW listened to your wishes. Its so hard being pregnant with everybody else telling you what your body must and must not do!

mummatara · 14/09/2022 21:10

@Releasethehoundss wow that's super stressful. I do have a tilted uterus which is sort of what I'm clinging to atm but we will see. I am 9 weeks today so really they should see something by now tilted or not

Heath2330 · 15/09/2022 08:04

@Releasethehoundss I'm having repeat section had Emergancy section with my 2nd 10 years ago after failed induction my 1st baby was a vaginal birth and don't want to go through the whole trying to labour and ending in section again however I think I suffered a lot of trauma from the section and not having straight skin to skin ect so this time I've discussed with my midwife already if my hospital support natural/gentle csections which they do so this is what I'll be opting for I think it's still early so that could change
