@Springblooms08 @Tropicana1 10+3 here so all very similar!

ancienthouse · 26/09/2022 22:15

@Springblooms08 I think they can only do the nuchal measurement after 11ish weeks, so if you're earlier than that and want the screening then you'll have to go back at 12ish weeks.

Springblooms08 · 26/09/2022 22:25

@ancienthouse ohh okay that makes sense. I should be 10+6 by then so we’ll see. I did tell the midwife that I was tracking ovulation and I’m not that far ahead but I know they can only go on lmp

@Springblooms08 I was exactly 10+6 for mine and was only in a few minutes before the sonographer said I’d need to go back when measuring more than 4.5cm. It meant an extra scan which is a bonus but I’m finding the 2 extra weeks of waiting is dragging! Hope everything goes well at yours.

Springblooms08 · 27/09/2022 07:33

@hopeful2023 ah thank you that’s really good to bear in mind. Did you still get to have a proper look at baby and get some photos from the scan? Hope the time whizzes by til your next one x

Margo34 · 27/09/2022 08:27

@Springblooms08 @PuddingBear @Tubbytele I'm another that hasn't had an early scan either. @ancienthouse I've had previous losses so that's not always a reason some people choose to have early scans, it's the reason I chose not to have one! That and the ott expense in my area. 😆

@KennAdams my NHS scan is 6th October too! 😊

Tubbytele · 27/09/2022 08:29

@Margo34 I was actually thinking of you yday and was hoping you're ok as hadn't heard from you in a while :)

Longbin · 27/09/2022 08:30

@cheekysausage I really like the mama mio one, I used that and bio oil from the start.

Margo34 · 27/09/2022 08:32

I'm full of thick heavy cold today having suffered the musings of a cold for about a week, and now my toddler has it too, 😭 I work part time but if today was a work day I'd be calling in sick, so instead I think we'll be having a duvet day on the sofa watching Mr Tumble 🙈 I've got no voice, red raw throat, banging head and totally blocked nose and the sneezes!

I don't think there's anything I can take apart from making a lemon and honey drink, is there?

AliceinSlumberland · 27/09/2022 08:41

Ahhh @Margo34 i had a cold last week and felt very sorry for myself, I massively sympathise. I used vic vapour rub which kind of helped but no nothing else really.

Ahh thanks for thinking of me ☺️ I have been a bit busy and under the weather, that and just couldn't keep up with the thread! Hope all is well with you

ancienthouse · 27/09/2022 09:20

@Margo34 EPU offered me early scans so I had them. It was nice to know I'd made it to 6 weeks, then 9 weeks. I'd be really angry as well as upset if I waited until my 12 week scan and went through all this sickness just to find out the fetus stopped growing at 7 weeks or something. It would feel like wasted time. I guess everyone is different!

LauraA31 · 27/09/2022 09:48

Reading through the last couple of pages, it seems like loads of us have our NHS scan on the 6th!
thankfully mine is at 9am so i don’t have all day to wait 😂 i should only be 11+1 though so think it might be early for what they need!

I feel that all my symptoms have stopped suddenly, im sleeping better at night and all i really have is tender boobs every now and again and heartburn… it has concerned me but the private scan on Friday went absolutely fine.
I am getting loads of cramps at the sides of my lower stomach, not painful but a little uncomfortable, the lady at the scan told me it’s normal as everything is stretching or getting ready to start to stretch more so trying to remain positive haha!

Gilm0reGirl · 27/09/2022 10:15

@LauraA31 I'm 10+3 and I said the same to my husband, most of my pregnancy symptoms have gone and I'm sleeping better so I'm not tired during the day, I'm assuming my placenta is starting to take over maybe but they might come back again so I'm just going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Private scans are definitely a personal thing, I can understand why some people would shy away from them and why others leap at them. I loved our private scans as we could take our daughter to them which was a lovely experience and I love that I had them done at the same gestations as I did when I was pregnant with her, just made me smile when we realised the dates and the gestations matched up so well.

DBS94 · 27/09/2022 12:02

@Gilm0reGirl this sounds much the same as me! Since hitting 10 weeks I've definitely felt a decrease in nausea and other symptoms, I definitely still have rough days though like today. Was sick first thing and now just feeling rubbish and lying in bed with the laptop!

What's everyone's thoughts on steak whilst pregnant? My midwife said no rare steak but as long as the 'juices' aren't running it's okay (sorry any non meat eaters) but I've seen other people say it shouldn't be eaten at all - any thoughts? I'm trying to be very careful with what I'm eating/products I'm using

LauraA31 · 27/09/2022 12:21

So, when is the normal or right time to buy items for baby?
I’m 10 weeks tomorrow and in all honesty mum and dad have put a deposit on a pram me and the boyfriend fell in love with which fits our small car. They did it yesterday and i had no involvement with the pram buying and it’s not getting delivered until end of March next year but the company were amazing and the price was unreal for the bundle and they didn’t want to miss out- im so grateful they’re buying us our pram!

But, we haven’t bought a thing because im so early but my sister has been sending me some amazing deals on sites such as a milton portable bottle steriliser for £6 including solution from £15 and it’s got my itching to snap up bargains as they come up! 😂
When did everybody start buying for previous babies or has anybody started yet?

Im desperate not to jinx anything but also want to grab some good deals haha!

DBS94 · 27/09/2022 12:31

@LauraA31 I'm desperate to know this too! I'm 12 weeks tomorrow but sooo scared to tempt fate! I want to get a nice outfit to take a photo and to send to family to tell them but I'm not sure if that's being silly x

DBS94 · 27/09/2022 12:32

@LauraA31 ps apparently it's okay to buy the pram but don't bring it into the house until closer to the time 😂 these are the strange things I follow!! X

LauraA31 · 27/09/2022 12:38

@DBS94 haha my mum said the same; i have a small car and found a perfect pram and tried it in the boot this weekend just because i needed to know and it fit perfectly so the parents took over haha! I am very lucky to have them!
But no it’s coming nowhere near until weeks before, the store know i want to collect or have it delivered at the end of March/start of April 😂

It’s crazy isn’t it? My sister said to me if anything was to happen it’s not because you have bought something, but deep down i can’t stop thinking im tempting fate haha! Especially now all my symptoms seem to have vanished overnight!

That’s so good you’re 12 weeks tomorrow! How are you feeling :) x

Cuppasoupmonster · 27/09/2022 12:40

The first thing I bought for DD was a musical elephant toy from the middle aisle of Lidl when I was about 10 weeks 😂 it was only a fiver and it turned out to be worth every penny!

Bought a couple of baby grows after the 12 week scan, we went for a coffee and cake to celebrate and passed M&S so ended up popping in and picking up some pink Peter Rabbit sleepsuits. The sex hadn’t been confirmed but I was so sure it was a girl and luckily it was!

Nothing then until after the 20 week scan, think I bought the pram at about 28 weeks and most other things around then.

I bought a pair of cream knitted booties at Christmas because I knew we would ttc soonish and I fell in love with them! I plan to put them next to the scan photo for the announcement if all is well.

There’s no right and wrong and you can’t jinx anything. What I’ve realised is that pregnancy is every bit a part of the ‘experience’ as having the baby and everything after that. You should enjoy it and celebrate it how you want.

ancienthouse · 27/09/2022 12:40

@LauraA31 I didn't buy anything until 20 weeks with my first, I was too worried. I might have got a few babygros in a charity shop but they're not really a big investment. I didn't order the pram until I was around 6 months. I think I bought the cosleeping crib and moses basket around the same time so we could get them ready. Everything else was bought closer to the due date or after the baby was here and we knew more what we needed.

Haven't bought anything yet for this one. Not that I need much but I'll probably get a few bits for them when I'm about 7 or 8 months.

I think lots of people get swept up in buying all the baby stuff because it's exciting and lovely, and it is, but they don't end up using half of it because it's hard to figure out what you'll really need until you're doing it.

Margo34 · 27/09/2022 12:44

My mum was adamant that it's bad luck to have the pram in the house before baby arrives! So she had it delivered to her house (over an hour away), then it got delivered while they were on holiday and had to be redelivered (that was a ball ache), then I had baby, then we went into lockdown 2 and were without a pram for ages because it was stuck at my mum's, so I'd say we had worse luck by not bringing the pram into the house! 😆

These old wives tales eh!

@LauraA31 start to buy things whenever you feel comfortable to ☺️ For me, I didn't feel comfortable buying anything myself until after 20w scan.

Cuppasoupmonster · 27/09/2022 12:44

A tip from a second time mum to anyone who wants it, everyone on MN seems to have enormous 99th centile babies that go straight into 1 month or 0-3 month clothing ‘so I didn’t buy newborn as I knew they wouldn’t be in it long’.

My baby was a six pounder, clothes that size would’ve absolutely swamped her! Im glad I bought some baby grows in ‘tiny baby’ (which aren’t that tiny, usually for babies under 8lb) and
’newborn’ (which usually fits 8-9lb in my experience).

In reality very few people I know have had 9lb+ babies, particularly for their first baby. 6-8lb seems to be the norm.

ancienthouse · 27/09/2022 12:46

@Cuppasoupmonster my first was over 10lbs and I only took newborn sized stuff to the hospital, in the first pictures she looked like a hulk baby haha the clothes were so stretched! I think a mixture is good for first time mums, you have no idea how big the baby will be really.

Argh! Proven wrong already 😱

Yes a mix is probably a good call!
