Is anyone having additional NIPT testing like Harmony or Panorama? I can’t work out if I should do it or not. It’s £500 so not exactly a small sum!!

I want to but can’t really afford it. I’ve had a few annoying unexpected expenses lately so my savings are now non existent! DH’s view is to wait for the score from the NHS screening, and if I’m unhappy with it we will find the money then. But I don’t know what my cut off would be. With DD it was 1:8000.

Marshmallowmountain · 26/09/2022 14:14

@Longbin at how many weeks did you have it done? I just can’t make up my mind. I’m 10w tomorrow and have a scan on Wednesday at the EPU then my 12w scan on 13th Oct so I definitely don’t need it for the extra scan, would be for reassurance on chromosome issues

Longbin · 26/09/2022 14:59

@Marshmallowmountain I had it done just before 11 weeks and for the chromosome check too rather than extra scan. It has made me slightly less anxious for my 12 week scan now too though as I know everything was okay 2 weeks ago. If I hadn't had it it would have been a month between scans and my symptoms are fluctuating a lot now

DBS94 · 26/09/2022 16:00

Are the NIPT tests the same as what you have done at 12 week scan or are these a little different? Sorry, I've never heard of these before! My midwife said they do basic bloods at 12 weeks then if they come up high risk they do the NIPT (I'm in scotland not sure if things differ) x

Pickles91 · 26/09/2022 16:02

Hi @Wisher88 ! I had a scan at 10+1 and it was definitely baby-like (pic attached). So lovely to see. Look forward to seeing your pic, if you’re happy to share.

I am having NIPT done @Marshmallowmountain, but only because we don’t get 12 week scans done where I live so it’s for extra peace of mind. Plus, we are impatient and want to know the sex! Definitely not cheap though…

@Wouldloveanother I feel exactly the same way. I do find myself better at work than home and think when I'm busy and my mind is occupied I can power through but as soon as I'm at home o just go back to feeling absolutely horrendous all the time and can't do anything productive! Mind you having said that I almost passed out in theatre at work last week got all shaky and dizzy and had to take a breather.

Been keeping up reading the thread but just feel rubbish generally so not much to add which is why I've not been chatting 😂 hoping the next 2 weeks flies by and once I'm second trimester I feel more myself again

Glad I'm not the only one. I was lazy all weekend and ended up feeling really sad and low about it as I manage to function well at work.

It's to do with making sure your body doesn't create antibodies against any future positive babies I think.

I found they just sting a bit but nothing major. You also need to have them if you have a bleed.

Anyone else feel like their 12 week scan is ages away!? Hurry up October 6th 😬

Mine's October 6th too - feels a lifetime away at the moment... Was never one to wish time away, but these days I'm so happy when a day is finished, am in bed and will be one day closer to 12 weeks!

Springblooms08 · 26/09/2022 17:49

Is anybody not having a private scan and their 12 week scan will be the first time they see baby? Feel like I’m the only one 😂

@SavedByGraceAlone I’m the exact same!

We aren’t either! Can’t justify the cost.

Tubbytele · 26/09/2022 18:14

@Springblooms08 @PuddingBear we haven't either though the temptation was great at times. Mine is on Thursday. When are yours?

Springblooms08 · 26/09/2022 18:21

@Tubbytele @PuddingBear ah good to hear I’m not the only one! My friends who have had babies didn’t have early scans but it seems everyone on MN does!

@Tubbytele ah great yours is so soon, the next few days will fly by. Mine is on Saturday - although I think I will be 11w not 12w as I ovulated later and NHS just go by last period. I’m sure that’s fine though!

Tubbytele · 26/09/2022 18:28

@Springblooms08 I'm same as you, I think I ovulated late too. I usually ovulate late but it was the first month I didn't use any opk and went by CM only, so it's only based on this that I think I ovulated late. Not too long for your scan too!

Springblooms08 · 26/09/2022 18:32

@Tubbytele i’m not sure if they repeat the scan a couple of weeks later if it’s sooner than 12w but I guess we’ll soon find out! Fingers crossed this week flies by!

@SavedByGraceAlone I’m the exact same!

I had an NHS dating scan at 9 weeks and having the first trimester scan on the 4th, but no private scans. I don’t have the money!

Just booked my covid booster for when I will be 14 weeks. Also going to book the flu jab but will probably book that for a few weeks after. Don’t fancy 2 lots of side effects at once!

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/09/2022 18:43

New username but it’s me, Wouldloveanother! Figured I needed to change my username now I’m having another! 🥰

Tubbytele · 26/09/2022 18:48

@Cuppasoupmonster love the new name!

Wisher88 · 26/09/2022 19:02

Wow that's an incredibly clear scan!!! Hopefully I get something similar tomorrow!

ancienthouse · 26/09/2022 19:44

@Springblooms08 I think lots of us in this group have had previous losses so that might be why it seems like everyone is having early scans.

I didn't have one in my first pregnancy but I did have my first dating scan at 10 weeks even though I knew I was only 10 weeks but they insisted based on lmp. So I had to go back again 2 weeks later.

ancienthouse · 26/09/2022 19:48

I managed an actual dinner tonight which was lovely and I got to sit with my family and the cooking smells didn't make me puke!! So hopefully that's the light at the end of the tunnel I can see and things will keep improving 🤞

PuddingBear · 26/09/2022 19:49

@Springblooms08 Yeah, I don’t know anyone in real life who has ever had an early scan either!

@Tubbytele My 12 week scan is on 11th October which seems an age away!

Gilm0reGirl · 26/09/2022 20:09

That's interesting I think it's rarer in my circle of friends group to wait and not have a private scan then it is to have one. Thinking about it I can only think of one friend who waited until their 12 week scan, lots of impulsive friends or Friends who've had previous loses is the reason no doubt as I'm the same.

Springblooms08 · 26/09/2022 20:23

It’s a long time to wait til the 12 week scan so it makes sense why an early scan can provide that reassurance. I didn’t have one because the midwife I saw at the booking in appt advised against it and said often they ask you to come back for a reason or another, which put me off. @ancienthouse thats interesting - I’m wondering if that might happen when I go on Saturday.

Tropicana1 · 26/09/2022 20:32

@Springblooms08 I've not had an early one either, was considering it but they're all pretty expensive and far away so just decided to wait it out! 10+2 now so not too long to go

Springblooms08 · 26/09/2022 21:05

@Tropicana1 not long at all to go! I think I’m almost the same as you, around 10+1. 10 weeks feels like a bit of a milestone too - maybe it’s the double digits!

cheekysausage · 26/09/2022 21:53

Anyone got any ‘swear by’ stretch mark creams/balms? And when did you start using?!
