@DBS94 I hope your appointment went well! Mine is at 3pm today and I have no clue what’s expected, I asked (over text) and she said “just bring yourself and your NHS number” so I assumed partner wasn’t needed 😅

I’m mindful that it’s the first time for me (and many others here?) and I’m wondering to those who have had theirs, we’re there things you wanted to ask but forgot to on the day? Questions you’ve only thought about since? I’m not sure what to expect or how frequent appointments will be (I’ll ask about the latter at least!) so I don’t want to leave full of questions and not be able to see her again for a month or whatever… Although I’m sure even if I went with a huge list I’d still come away with more 🫣

I’ll be 9 weeks from LMP tomorrow, hopefully there’s a scan on the horizon in the next few weeks 🤞🏼

Hope you’re all ok this morning. I find it so tough keeping up but hope you’re getting plenty of rest! Those of you with kids already, wow, hats off to you, I’m like a zombie all the time at the moment and I’m working from home part-time and currently childless 😳

@ThatsTooFantastic That's me not long back, it went well - was about an hour long.

You basically have a good chat with midwife and she asked LOTS of questions (relationship status, previous pregnancies, financial worries, family medical history) then talks through what happens at your next appointment (12 week dating scan).

You also get your urine sample done and bloods taken so drink lots of water and make sure you've eaten something if you can. Midwife was lovely but the only thing for me was - I've a severe phobia of getting bloods taken, I spoke to my GP about this who suggested she carry out my bloods ahead of the appointment (she always does them and knows what I'm like). she uploaded all my results so the midwife could access them and then wrote her a note detailing them however the midwife said today very bluntly "you've done yourself no favours I'm just going to do them all again" so had to bite the bullet and have them done! Very minor but felt the midwife was really nippy at this but at least I'll know for next time

Also ladies who have had their smears and been referred to colposcopy for treatment please bring this up to midwife! She said this is really important to mention xx

alwaysseeingstars · 06/09/2022 11:10

@Wouldloveanother wonderful news! 😊
@ThatsTooFantastic I had my first midwife appt on Sat, all booked in for my 12 week scan but I won't be seeing the midwife again until 16 weeks. Although after that the appts seem to get more frequent. Be warned, there are a lot of questions 😂Mine did give me her mobile number and the main maternity unit number and said any questions, big or small, to just call them in between appointments if needs be. Hopefully yours will be the same!

MamaMenna · 06/09/2022 11:10

@Skylark1990 my little one is also nearly 2, so similar to you. I've also been back and forward in my mind wondering if I wanted to tandem feed but have also decided probably not. It's so hard trying to work out what's going to work best for dd and for me when a new baby arrives, I want to set us all up for as easy a ride as possible. This time round all I'm thinking about is the newborn stage with a toddler and how it will affect her. She is just beginning nursery too so with that and pregnancy hormones I'm a bit of an emotional wreck right now 🙃

I also did the injections after my c section. They didn't hurt much and the bruises didn't either but I was glad to be done with them because I would lose my nerve more and more in administering them, it was like a mental block.

Midwife said next appointment is dating scan at the hospital then the next time I see her will be 16 weeks for a check in. I'm in scotland and we have an app to download called "badger net" which is your personal medical records, it's great - has all your appointments and then any blood and urine results go up there xx

PuddingBear · 06/09/2022 11:17

@MamaMenna I struggled with the C-section injections! Found them to be quite painful and a nurse told me later it’s because they have tiny shards of glass in them. I had to get my mum to do them as we were staying with her after the birth 😅

I’ve had to administer other injections to myself in the same place and they didn’t hurt at all.

PuddingBear · 06/09/2022 11:18

I had preeclampsia with my first and had to had my bloods done every two days in the last few weeks of my pregnancy. At first I hated them but got used to them after so many 😅

Shame your midwife was quite snippy though 😞

MamaMenna · 06/09/2022 11:55

@PuddingBear shards of glass 😱 glad I didn't know that at the time!

PuddingBear · 06/09/2022 11:57

MamaMenna · 06/09/2022 11:55

@PuddingBear shards of glass 😱 glad I didn't know that at the time!

Neither did I! I only found out after I had to administer another injection in the same place and I mentioned the C-section injections hurt and she explained why!

Heath2330 · 06/09/2022 12:03

@PuddingBear I've never heard of that and I'm a district nurse and give these all the time the pre-filled syringes do not contain any glass you only risk contamination with tiny shards of glass if you are drawing from the old glass ampules fragmin and heparin solution just stings when it goes under the skin because in only going in subcutaneous so just slightly under the skin but maybe I'm wrong 🤷‍♀️ just never heard of that in 12 years of giving them

Skylark1990 · 06/09/2022 12:26

@Wouldloveanother congrats on your scan! They put you forward two days just like me so we are still due date twins :)

@MamaMenna sounds we are in a similar boat! also not sure if it was you now but if it was thank you for the kind words re lump in boob. I saw gp and she's referring me for an ultrasound to check - hopefully just hormonal, but can't help being a bit worried.

I'm feeling awful today and reading stuff online makes me feel even worse atm so won't write much else right now but man I am sick of this nausea and sickness, really hoping it eases off soon! Hope you're all doing well x

I think there was someone on here talking about heart palpitations sorry can't find the post now have scrolled back? Just reading through my midwife notes and this can be a sign of anaemia/low iron and is very common in pregnancy xx

ThatsTooFantastic · 06/09/2022 12:41

@alwaysseeingstars and @DBS94 thanks so much for sharing your experiences! Reminder about bloods was great because she text to reschedule for 1pm (at 11.15!) and I’ve had to do a really quick walk to the other side of town from another appointment, effing knackered and not eaten much at all, just grabbing a quick drink and snack now!

Also thanks so much for the colposcopy reminder, I’ve had some nightmare experiences with them (left me with scar tissue and polyps that I didn’t have before, sorry TMI!) so I will definitely bring it up.

So gutting you had to have two lots of bloods done 😫 Well done for getting through it though 🙂

Thanks again ladies! ❤️

PuddingBear · 06/09/2022 12:48

@Heath2330 I’m not a HCP so I don’t know myself, just repeating what a nurse told me

Leanne053 · 06/09/2022 13:00

Does it take cyclizine a while to work? Was prescribed yesterday and taken two far but had no effects whatsoever, im going to have to take time off work at this rate I feel dreadful all the time 😨

SavedByGraceAlone · 06/09/2022 13:25

Wouldloveanother · 06/09/2022 10:23

Just had my scan, all looking good & healthy. Baby measuring 9+1 (was 8+6 by my dates) could see its little limbs and heartbeat 🥰

Congratulations @Wouldloveanother, fantastic news!!

And a massive virtual hug to those who are struggling today with nausea, fatigue and the general feeling of rubbishness!

Wouldloveanother · 06/09/2022 13:39

It’s meant to be @Skylark1990 ! Bet we will both have the same sex of baby now 😂 and same weight!

Had a chat with the obstetrician who said we’re going to aim for induction at 37 weeks again, which I’m happy with. So my ‘real’ due date is something like 22nd March. Got my date for 12 week scan - 27th September so will be 12+1 🥰

@ThatsTooFantastic good luck for this afternoon! ❤️ fingers crossed for you. At 9 weeks you should be able to see a jelly baby shaped thing with little beginnings of limbs and a clear heartbeat! I found it really interesting!

Skylark1990 · 06/09/2022 13:40

@Leanne053 are you vomiting a lot? Or feeling nauseous/bad but not loads of vomiting or able to keep some food and fluid down? As far as I am aware, sickness meds for pregnancy help with regard to reducing vomiting, so you can actually absorb some nutrients, and this is why they're more often given to women who have very severe sickness. I don't think they work so well for nausea or general icky pregnancy feelings.

I'm actually surprised as a lot more people seem to be taking/trying them this time around, compared to when I was pregnant with DD - which isn't to say they shouldn't, but it seems more mainstream now which is interesting.

If you are spewing a lot and unable to keep anything down, and the cyclizine isn't working, then you could ask for some different meds as there are a few different options one can try. I think a few other women on here have tried the meds as well so they may be able to offer more support/advice. Hope you feel better soon. It's rough isn't it. Early pregnancy is just hard - take time off if you need to and you can, we do need to rest.

ancienthouse · 06/09/2022 14:10

My scan went well, I'm so relieved. Very strong heartbeat and now measuring exactly right for when I think I ovulated. Saw the start of teeny tiny arms and legs.

@Wouldloveanother glad your scan went well too!

Wouldloveanother · 06/09/2022 14:12

That’s great Ancient! Do you have an EDD from the scan?

ancienthouse · 06/09/2022 14:14

Yeah it's now the 15th. I'm sure it'll change a little at the 12 week scan though. With my DD I went nearly 2 weeks overdue so I take due dates with a pinch of salt anyway!

Skylark1990 · 06/09/2022 14:22

@Wouldloveanother haha yes perhaps our babies will continue their similarities all the way to birth and beyond! Although if you are being induced around 37 weeks I don't think they'll arrive on the same day as I went nearly 2 weeks over with DD - so unless something changes dramatically this time, assuming it could be similar! Will you find out the sex?

@ancienthouse great news on the scan! V happy for you x

OP posts:
Leanne053 · 06/09/2022 14:27

@Skylark1990 thanks for replying. No vomiting just nausea alllll day long and some retching! Probably doesn't sound worth trying something else medication wise then does it 😞 if I can just have 3 days off feeling like this so i can enjoy my weekend plans I'd be grateful 🥲

Wouldloveanother · 06/09/2022 14:33

It’s doubtful they’ll arrive on the same day @Skylark1990 unless you went early! We’ll be finding out the sex at the 20 week scan - we had a private one last time at 16 weeks but need to save the ££. Will you? Do you have a preference?

alwaysseeingstars · 06/09/2022 14:37

@ancienthouse wonderful news on the scan 😊
