Hi all, looks like we'll be filling up today or tomorrow. I wanted to create the thread early so we can have a link to the new one. Have a nice weekend!

Has anyone else started getting pain in their hips? Like pressure/ discomfort?

Orcarain · 02/08/2022 11:50

Had my 20 week scan yesterday. Absolutely shocked to find out she's a girl! I was absolutely certain it was a boy with my savoury cravings and lack of sickness... but she'll obvs just be a cheese board lover like her mother and great-grandmother.

Placenta was confirmed to be anterior. 3cm away from the cervix currently - so not within the threshold for a 32 week scan, but they will keep an eye on it. Also explains my lack of feeling movement as she really only has 3cm to squidge past - so less stressed out.

Going pram shopping in a couple of weeks. Will see what happens! Just all a bit more real now!

@Mommabear20 my inside of my right hip has been bothering me, I've started using a pregnancy pillow at night to try and help. Although I haven't figured out the best way to use it yet, so I look like I'm practicing my wrestling moves 😂

Mommabear20 · 02/08/2022 13:57

@Tofu35 it's not too bad on a night as I've been using my pregnancy pillow for weeks but have noticed today that I'm in some discomfort 🤦‍♀️ not sure if it's just because I'm at work and on my feet a lot more than usual 🤷‍♀️

RhiRhi1996 · 02/08/2022 18:49

I had my 20 week scan at 19+5, but couldn't get the spine & heart properly looked at due to baby positioning & couldn't get it to move to correct position.

The head size , stomach size & femur length was all showing 8 week 5 days which I can't help but worry if things aren't where they should be, but the sonographer said it is still within normal range , and it might just be a petite baby!

I have to go back on Friday 12th to get the spine & heart looked at, hopefully baby is more co-operaritive then!

I had mentioned to the sonographer I had , had a gender scan, and she did confirm it was a girl for me which was nice of her as in my hospital they don't tell the sex of the baby.

chardaboo · 02/08/2022 19:40

@RhiRhi1996 are you Glasgow ? I have mine on Friday - I am technically 19 weeks on that date. I hope I don't have issues with baby not co-operating too ! she was a bit like that at the hospital on my 12 week one. but behaves fine at private ones 🤣

DogsAndGin · 02/08/2022 19:52

Hi girls, I’ve discovered this website where you can make a gift list, and people tick things off, to prevent duplicates. It’s called: www.thingstogetme.com

@Loute02 were the nubologists wrong for you? What percentage certainty did they give you? I’m panicking now - nubologists gave me 93% chance of girl, but the scan lady wasn’t particularly sure, she said ‘looks like it could be a girl’. We’ve bought pink things now 😂😱

@Seraphim87 that’s terrible behaviour from your colleagues, I’m so sorry to hear how you’ve not been treated seriously. I hope you make a speedy recovery x

RhiRhi1996 · 02/08/2022 19:55

@chardaboo No , I am in Aberdeen!

I hope you have better luck on yours! I find it a bit annoying having to come back to be honest 😅🤣 but can't be helped! Mine has been uncooperative on my gender scan & my 12 week scan too if I remember correctly, so I hope it isn't the same when I go for my rescan 😅

Loute02 · 02/08/2022 20:38

@DogsAndGin they gave me 85% confidence it was a girl. Could not deny that it was actually a boy from the scan on Monday 😂Glad I hadn't bought anything yet!

Thanks for the gift list website! I had started to add things to an amazon wishlist but this might be a better option.

Anyone having shoulders pain? Trying to sleep on the side but I have to keep switching sides during the night because of the pain.

Slisha · 02/08/2022 20:46

I've had my 20w scan and all is well. We could see our little baby boy playing with his feet. We are all elated and I was so relieved that I went off baby stuff for the next week. Baby shopping starts now!!!

@Mommabear20 Yes I've had some really painful nights when I would wake up with hip pain. But I've started using a normal pillow between my knees and it's been very helpful.

Tofu35 · 02/08/2022 22:53

@chardaboo I'm in Glasgow and I have a rescan on Friday because the wee wriggler wasn't cooperating with all the measurements and they need to double check some things. I've been told to eat something sugary before I get there so they get an energetic baby (and not stubborn baby who, despite starjumps and long walks, refused to move).

Bluebonnet3 · 02/08/2022 23:17

I had my 20 week scan today (at 19w + 6d) and everything's ok! We're having a little boy!!! 💙💙💙

At one point the sonographer had me get up to walk around and drink some water to get a better position to scan the heart. Glad it worked!

At my original dating scan baby was measuring a little small for the ivf dates, but the midwife didn't want to adjust the EDD. Still measuring a bit small for dates but apparently nothing to worry about. Several measurements were close to 5th percentile but others were closer to 50th (relative to 20w average). Maybe we'll just have a tall slender boy like his dad!

chardaboo · 02/08/2022 23:56

@RhiRhi1996 aww are you ! yeah I find it annoying as well. get really anxious and worked up in hospitals so don't like being there. terrified of labour and being on my own n all sorts 😂

chardaboo · 03/08/2022 00:25

@Tofu35 aw cool , same as me 😊 . be funny if was same hospital an time haha.

aww yeah I drank some coke before going to private one th3 last time. I think it definitely worked. So gonna do the same again this time ! hope you get on better this time

Vg92 · 03/08/2022 06:34

Hi, lovely mums, I hope you are all doing well :)
Is anyone planning an elective c section or already had one in the UK? Please, share your experience and opinions. Thank you and have a sunny day!

stuntbubbles · 03/08/2022 07:17

@Vg92 I’m planning an elective but this is my second baby so not sure how relevant the experience is vs first-time mums: my decision has been easily rubber-stamped and smooth sailing based on a quick glance at my notes from birth No1, which ended in EMCS. I do think the experience of whether you need to battle for an elective varies from trust to trust.

I can say that even though mine was an EMCS it was lovely and I still got skin to skin and everything I wanted from birth :)

Vg92 · 03/08/2022 07:28

@stuntbubbles thank you very much for response. May I ask you about the name of your hospital in the UK. I am currently located in West Yorkshire, but I am considering relocation for the birth.

stuntbubbles · 03/08/2022 08:39

@Vg92 First baby born in Brighton, I’m currently booked in at Lewisham but moving so I’ll be at Conquest in Hastings.

Is the relocation just for the birth?

MariaDingbat · 03/08/2022 09:35

I had an elective with my first in 2020 and will be having another this time too. It wasn't quite straightforward as my platelets dropped the day of the section so I couldn't have a spinal and had to have a general instead. This was in the Ulster Hospital. All very well handled, felt supported throughout and recovered well and have no worries about another elective c, though hopefully I'll be awake this time! I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

Vg92 · 03/08/2022 11:00

@stuntbubbles I am considering a relocation partially because of the birth and partially because mu currently renting contract is expiring.

@MariaDingbat thank you for your response.

Sdoubleyou · 03/08/2022 13:39

I survived camping and hiking!! It was actually wonderful. The weather was perfect for camping, we made a fire and just watched the stars. My mass of blankets and pillows worked and I got a great nights sleep. We did a pretty challenging hike yesterday (for me now anyways, it would normally have been a breeze!) and I can't believe I made it up there! Definitely taking a rest day today! I'm so glad we did this though. We talked about hiking and camping with baby next summer 💙.

@Vg92 I will be having an ELCS at Glos Royal Hosp, it has been very plain sailing. I told my midwife at the booking appointment, and she arranged a meeting with the consultant at 19 weeks. She gave me some leaflets and booked me in for 36 weeks for a more detailed chat. No resistance whatsoever, she just said, ‘you’ll have done your research and mothers can be trusted to make the right decision for themselves’. I also saw a mental health specialist who was really lovely and completely supportive of the ELCS too. Best of luck with yours. With the very recent changes due to the Ockenden Review, you will hopefully have a supportive response from your hospital.

DogsAndGin · 03/08/2022 20:36

@Sdoubleyou that sounds wonderful! We have two camping trips coming up, so I am reassured to hear you and bump had a comfortable time in the tent 😊

Sdoubleyou · 03/08/2022 22:50

@DogsAndGin, definitely! If you're camping in a tent, I definitely recommend bringing the extra blankets and pillows. It made all the difference. Enjoy!

@Loute02 not shoulder pain for me but I had medial epicondylitis in both elbows 1y+ ago and had the worst 1 injected and then a few months ago it flared up presumably due due pregnancy, now its back with a vengeance. I am not sleeping well at all swapping side to side and wake several times during the night in agony with it, and on my back 😑
