Anybody else starting to think toward labour? I've got ages left but now suddenly I'm remembering how long my pushing stage was the first time and the back to back contractions. Starting to get nervous Confused. I also wonder how my body will be after as I'm much heavier and feel weaker.

CurlyNo2 · 06/09/2022 08:28

I’m terrified! I had a very traumatic birth alongside other serious issues with my son (hence my referral to the perinatal mental health team), and I’m so anxious about how the labour is going to go.

One midwife gave me a horror story about how people who have experienced shoulder dystocia, are more likely to go through it again, but then others who said it will be fine but baby will rocket out of there quickly!

Fingers crossed all will be ok for us and we can breathe our babies out very quickly and safely x

greenerfingers · 06/09/2022 09:03

I've got the same issue. I've been told one back to back likely means more in future. 🥴

Bramblecrumble22 · 06/09/2022 09:04

With my DD starting school on I haven't given much thought to pregnancy and labour recently. I am going for my whooping cough vaccine today which hasn't been mentioned since booking appointment so I called to book it. I stressed last time about the developmental impact so I was going to only take it if offered and not chase. However, I realized that was immature, and if I want a home birth I need to start taking control, so at 31+2 weeks it's near the end of the recommended window I'm having it at the GP.

Past few days, Baby is currently pushing out rather than on my bladder/stomach/ lungs. Which is great in some ways but not on I've been getting some stinging pains above and below my belly button. Concerned about muscles separating. I didn't get this last time but I was younger and fitter. Should I mention it to a midwife. I'm not currently using any belt of tape.

CurlyNo2 · 06/09/2022 09:44

I haven’t had my whooping cough vaccine yet, like you it was mentioned at my booking appt but that’s the last I heard. Should I call my GP do you think? I’m not meeting my midwife again now till I’m 32 weeks.

Beanniebaby22 · 06/09/2022 10:29

@greenerfingers yes thinking about it a lot lately! So much so that I started packing hospital bag last night to ease my anxiety a bit. Like to feel I have a tiny amount of control by being prepared 😅

Have a growth scan today so that should be interesting!

Bramblecrumble22 · 06/09/2022 12:41

@CurlyNo2 might be worth calling your gp. Guidelines I found online was 16-32 weeks. However, I'm pretty sure it's effective later, unless you have a premature birth. It needs a few weeks for the baby to develop antibodies.

greenerfingers · 06/09/2022 14:01

@Beanniebaby22 hope the scan goes well! If I pack a hospital bag I'll become even more impatient Blush. Think I'll wait till 32 weeks or 34 once I discuss my birth plan.

CurlyNo2 · 06/09/2022 14:06

Spoke to my midwife and I need to book in asap with my practice nurse for the jab!

Bramblecrumble22 · 06/09/2022 15:14

Went to my whooping cough appointment but it was yesterday! I did it over the phone and I'm terrible at retaining verbal information and baby brains made my natural weaknesses worse. I'm dyslexic but I'm not normally hindered by it, I have lots of strategies but baby brain has banished them! I remember asking multiple times the time, but not day. So I booked it tommorrow, oops.

Back to back birth...my husband thinks he saw baby number one come out in this position but I don't know. It was 8-10 hours from oxytocin drip to giving birth, and I was allready having contractions before this. With an epidural I slept then was woken to push, so not traumatic. I wander if I can find more of my birth information at my next appointment.

Elle1709 · 06/09/2022 16:16

@Beanniebaby22 how did your scan go? I also had a growth scan today, currently 31 weeks and the weight was 4 pound 11 which they said was over the normal range for both weight and size. They said this increases risks with natural birth and I could either have c section or induction at 39 weeks. I also have to retest for diabetes and they said this date would be 38 weeks if I have developed diabetes. I only tested 2 weeks ago though and it was normal, so I doubt I have diabetes.

Beanniebaby22 · 06/09/2022 17:29

@Elle1709 just home from it! Baby is measuring perfectly for dates. Turns out I have a lot of amniotic fluid though to that’s why I was measuring big. Have to go back for another scan in 2 weeks!
An early induction of labour/c-section is something I’m afraid of so really hope it doesn’t come to that :/

@greenerfingers lol I couldn’t help myself. I like to feel organised. May have gone a little bit OCD labelling everything in the bag so DP can find the right things for me as I need them 🤣

CurlyNo2 · 06/09/2022 18:12

Contacted my GP and they don’t have any available appointments for the foreseeable for the whooping cough vaccine, I’ve been added to a list! I’m 28+5, it’s a gamble if they’ll be able to get me on before 32 weeks!

VolcanicProtectorMan · 06/09/2022 18:54

@CurlyNo2 I’m sure my midwife said that up to 34 weeks was fine for me to have the jab

Bramblecrumble22 · 06/09/2022 18:59

Oh no @CurlyNo2 that sucks. I don't think anything magical happens when you turn 32 weeks, they just set the bar somewhere, and it's early to protect premature babies Plus, you have ages. 3 and a half weeks, it will work out fine in the end. 'You should have the vaccination even if you've been vaccinated before or have had whooping cough yourself. The best time to get vaccinated to protect your baby is from week 16 up to 32 weeks of pregnancy. You can have the vaccine anytime from 16 weeks but if you have it after 38 weeks it may be less effective' www.gov.uk/government/publications/resources-to-support-whooping-cough-vaccination/whooping-cough-vaccination-in-pregnancy-guide#:~:text=You%20should%20have%20the%20vaccination,it%20may%20be%20less%20effective.

CurlyNo2 · 06/09/2022 19:18

I’m sure I had it much earlier with my son, let’s cross our fingers and see what happens.

VickyLincs · 06/09/2022 20:07

Hi hope it’s okay to post this here

My name's Vicky and I’m currently studying to become a child psychotherapist. As part of my training I need to take part in an infant observation study which involves me observing a new born baby within the home environment. I won’t be able to complete my training without this study so I’m desperately trying to reach out to as many places as possible in the hope it might reach any soon to be parents out there!

If there’s anyone here within this group who is expecting a baby soon or knows someone who is expecting soon and would be interested in taking part I’d be happy to meet up either in person, online or over the phone with you and can share some more info about what would be involved. It’s a really lovely and special thing to be part of

I can provide confirmation that I am on the training course and also hold an enhanced DBS

Any help would be really appreciated!

Is anyone getting the flu jab? 🙂

Beanniebaby22 · 07/09/2022 08:56

@Elle1709 I usually get it with my job anyway (Health Care Professional) so probably will.

KEverton20 · 07/09/2022 11:23

Hi all, I’m a bit late here but would like to join, I’m expecting my 3rd child and am due on the 16th November 😊

Elle1709 · 07/09/2022 08:15

Is anyone getting the flu jab? 🙂

I have an appointment on 1st October. I've never had it before so hopefully won't get side effects. I'm having whooping cough vaccine next week and have been offered a Covid booster too. Feels like a lot, but I'm in a customer facing job for another 8 weeks or so yet and baby will be born in the autumn so I figure being able to give him antibodies (assuming I can breastfeed) will be a good thing.

CurlyNo2 · 07/09/2022 17:42

Oh my word… I am so hungry at the minute, no amount of food is satisfying my hunger. I feel like I have constant hunger pains. Do you think this is a growth spurt?

On the school run today, so many people have commented ‘have you not had that baby yet’ or ‘feels like you’ve been pregnant forever’ 🙄🙄

Bramblecrumble22 · 07/09/2022 20:13

I'll get the flu jab, I get it every year.

greenerfingers · 07/09/2022 21:43

I'm famished too @CurlyNo2. I was not this hungry the first time. I wonder if it's just being drained from running around all day.. and your school run lot don't sound the best Confused

ALittleBitofVitriol · 08/09/2022 01:34

Hey @Elle1709 , I had a growth scan at 27 weeks and they said bubs was over 90th% at already 3.7lbs, but no mention of induction or csection & negative gtt - because it's my 5th and I've delivered good sized babies before (my 3rd was 9.5lbs) I don't remember if this is your first, sorry! I'm a tallish woman and my dh is 6' 3" so I'm not worried nor surprised by bigger babies. Also, size scans are notoriously inaccurate, just a guide. All that to say, try not to get too worried, with no diabetes or other medical conditions you're likely to be okay 💜

I actually have to call and make an appointment for another growth scan for 33/34 weeks, apparently standard practice for geriatric mums like me this time!
