Best of luck @beansprout55! If you have a TENNs machine then that really helps with breathing through contractions. Try and rest in between as much as possible too. How exciting that baby is on the way. 😊

Rolledthedice · 23/06/2022 00:56

@beansprout55 Also with the breathing, find a rhythm that works for you, in through the nose, slow breathe out through the mouth into your diaphragm. Your body knows what to do and remember you can do anything for one minute! I had a water birth with just gas and air and it was entirely doable, stay calm and work with your body’s urges rather than against them. You’ve got this! X

beansprout55 · 23/06/2022 01:13

No tenns @Rolledthedice. Thanks tip re breathing. Struggling now. I can't imagine it being more painful than this! Suspect will be going back soon as they're becoming more regular and lasting longer. DH is running around packing and organising whilst I'm glued to WhatsApp! I knew I wasn't ready!

Lostintranslatio · 23/06/2022 02:57

Best of luck @beansprout55 !@beansprout55

Prema112 · 23/06/2022 03:04

Ooo @beansprout55 thinking of you tonight and excited for your good news this morning!! Hope you got to hospital and got some pain relief, I absolutely love gas and air so definitely get that at least! Xx

Prema112 · 23/06/2022 03:06

@Lostintranslatio congrats!! Quick labours are great but I agree v intense. Did you tear much?

@annie1994 congrats!! Aww sorry he's needed a bit of help I hope you can cuddle him soon!

RoseValleyRambles · 23/06/2022 03:06

Welcome new babies, congrats new mums, and good luck tonight @beansprout55 !

fpeg · 23/06/2022 06:48

Hope things are going well @beansprout55 💕

fpeg · 23/06/2022 07:10

Baby peg slept for 6.5 hours last night! She's only just woken up, it's awesome, however, I've been awake for about an hour and a half because my boobs are so full 😂 the yin and Yang of a sleeping child 😂

I've expressed one Boob as I do every morning but it's usually after she's woken up and feeding on the first that I do that!

beansprout55 · 23/06/2022 12:22

I went back in at about 1.30am as I was screaming by that point! Contractions were only lasting 20 seconds yet I was 7cm when I arrived. 0-7 in 2 hours!
Eventually they let me have gas and air and we went into the pool, then pushing for 3 hours ish, which was sheer torture as they took away my gas and air for the pushing. I was screaming for pain relief but could have none. I screamed the entire time - I have no voice now. 😂

Ended up delivering on land on my back which wasn't ideal - ended up with a second degree tear (haven't looked into how bad that is yet - anyone else know much about it?) so had the stitches before.
Exhausted and aching to get home. Feeling a little traumatised by the push stage - so many people in the room at one point - I thought I was dying! Urgh.

Anyway. Meet my 8lb 5oz, 3 day early baby boy.
Was predicted to be 7lb according to most recent growth scan. First boob feed has gone well too xx

Congratulations @beansprout55. he’s beautiful!
My baby is in no rush to arrive. Im 13 days overdue and in hospital ready for induction. Which they can’t start as babies heartbeat is too fast. Have been stuck on monitor for over 2 hours now. Have waited so long I’m just really impatient for things to actually happen. I feel like this baby is never going to get here.

Prema112 · 23/06/2022 12:44

Yey @beansprout55 He's here!!! Well done you!!! Same weight as my baby boy was, although mine was 9 days late, good job yours was early! I was also a little traumatised by my labour- I was not prepared for what agony it would be, so much worse than first labour. I also had 2nd degree tear. Tear healing wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, take it very easy, eat lots of fibre so 1st bowel movement isn't hard. Sit on a donut cushion! Enjoy your lovely little boy! (Henry?) xxx

RoseValleyRambles · 23/06/2022 13:17

@beansprout55 well done! Her will be so worth it. Get as much ready as he allows!

Rolledthedice · 23/06/2022 13:22

Congratulations @beansprout55 - he’s such a sweetie! Sorry to hear you had a stressful labour, it can’t have helped having all those people there during the pushing stage! Enjoy all the newborn baby cuddles, mine is already a week old and I’m shocked how quickly those first days go by.

pansytub · 23/06/2022 13:52

@beansprout55 congrats on your new arrival! Just to reassure you, I had a second degree tear and needed restitching, sore at first but two weeks later totally forgotten! I felt quite traumatised by the pain in the days after the birth too (also gas and air only) but its genuinely amazing how quickly you forget it - not sure that's a good thing or not!

Letsbekindplease · 23/06/2022 14:21

@beansprout55 well done. How amazing and what a gorgeous boy. You smashed it! Hope you enjoy your new bundle.

im over a week pp and my bleeding is still really heavy. I spoke to midwife today who said my fundus is still high in my stomach but I’m not passing clots or in pain so they didn’t seem too concerned. I had Postpartum hemorrhage last pregnancy so I’m a little worried. Just wondering if anyone is the same here and if you’ve been told the same

laurenGame · 23/06/2022 15:54

Congratulations 🥳 @beansprout55 he is gorgeous !! Hard to believe not long ago we were both so worried about our consistent bleeding and here we are , you've made it and have a beautiful boy in your arms ☺️

@Lostintranslatio congratulations 🎉! What a quick labour! I'm getting induced too, wonder if I'll progress just as fast. I already have epidural booked in too. Did you get tears?

Congratulations @annie1994 what a cutie he is!! How is the recovery going? Hope it's fast and not b painful x

sunflower198 · 23/06/2022 16:06

Congratulations to all the new babies ❤️
Enjoy the newborn stage, time really does fly by. I can't believe my baby is 4 weeks old on Monday - it feels like he was only just born!!

hellointhere · 23/06/2022 16:44

@beansprout55 my due date buddy you've left me! haha
congratulations to you, i hope you're feeling better soon.
i am still pregnant, 39 weeks and 4 days today

needarainbow · 23/06/2022 16:50

Congratulations to you all on your gorgeous babies! I've just got caught up after our LO Samuel arrived on Sunday via EMCS. Unfortunately a bit of a negative induction experience for me and I've now got an infection but still happy, totally in love with him and trying to soak up every moment!

It was a few pages back so I can't remember who to tag but I'm another one struggling with latching in the early days. He's lost quite a bit of weight and has a touch of jaundice so he's so sleepy that I can't get him to feed for long and it's a vicious circle because he needs to feed to get the energy to feed more. My milk isnt in yet and I need him to feed to get it in. One thing I have found that's working for us (incase it's helpful for anyone else) is that I've been hand expressing and pulling it into a syringe, basically harvesting Colostrum, and before I try latching him I give him about half the syringe to wet his whistle and encourage him to look for the boob. Seems to be working for us now. Hope that helps someone! I was really emotional yesterday about not being able to exclusively breastfeed but as someone else said, fed it best. I couldn't give him enough between the jaundice and me being so tired from the infection so he's had a few bottles of formula but I always try him on the boob first! How crazy, overwhelming and amazing is this first week?!

Rolledthedice · 23/06/2022 17:00

Aww congratulations @needarainbow - what a cute little fella! 🥰

I’ve been having to use top up formula since birth (baby is a week old now) and I really struggled with the guilt of doing this! Like yours, she is a sleepy baby with some jaundice and started at 6lb 2 so we couldn’t afford for her to lose weight. I didn’t educate myself enough beforehand on breast feeding (so didn’t realise how time sensitive the early days are). The electric pump only arrived a few days ago and I’m expressing very small amounts, but I really hope that expressing increases supply and that baby gets better at latching. I do put her on the boob every feed and sometimes it’s successful, but we are having to continue with formula for now.

RoseValleyRambles · 23/06/2022 18:02

We're also formula feeding due to latching issues, and I've just started pumping today so he's now getting colostrum / milk. I find a bit of formula first makes him more chilled and more likely to latch nicely for the bits of breast feeding we are managing.

If bottle feeding, tapping the bottle or stroking his cheek will encourage him to keep going if he's sleepy but needs the feed.

fpeg · 23/06/2022 20:29

@needarainbow and @beansprout55 congratulations to you both 💕

@Rolledthedice my MIL didn't breast feed for the first month due to severe tongue tie, then decided she wanted to start and was able to re-establish supply and EBF, so even if you miss the early days it is possible with pumping and presenting them to the breast to get a full supply going, hope this helps x

needarainbow · 23/06/2022 22:04

@Rolledthedice @RoseValleyRambles

Yeah I found an overwhelming sense of guilt giving the bottle as well. It probably didn't help that it collided with my day 3 hormone crash 🤦‍♀️.

These lazy, sleepy babies are really making life difficult 😴 I'm confident we'll all get there though! And at the end of the day if they're fed that's all that matters!

beansprout55 · 24/06/2022 06:34

Thanks everyone xx totally in love! But haven't slept still - well, except a couple hours, since Tuesday night! Exhausted.

Did anyone else's baby suffer with that post-birth mucous? He's been bringing it up loads his first 24 hours, so has only managed two pathetic feeds. MW coming to check on us later. He was so uncomfortable trying to bring this stuff up every hour last night, broke my heart. Any tips? Or is it true that it will go in the next few hours on its own?
So so tired 😳
