Starting a new thread due to last one being full. Such a valuable place to share our journey! Not going to tag anyone in case they don't want to be tagged.

Marching towards or in the beginning of the second trimester!

We've told all our close friends and family. Also told work recently too. I wasn't sure about announcing it wider i.e on Facebook but I've wanted this for a long time and we have friends due the same time as us and I keep seeing announcement and think why should I not get to have this happy exciting time too? It's hugely because of my anxiety and fear of bad things. I'm trying to teach myself to be calm and enjoy my pregnancy.

Sdoubleyou · 17/06/2022 21:47

@Jaaxe, I really hope it helps you!

HayleyBean · 18/06/2022 08:54

I told a few people as soon as I found out at 3+6 just to clarify I was reading the test right. We then told both sets of parents at about 6 weeks. My nausea at work was quite bad so I told them at 6 weeks and more of my friends too. I decided if anything bad did happen, they would be the people I'd want to support me anyway. I've not put anything on Facebook or social media. I'm just telling people when I see them. We might put something online at 20 weeks just for friends and family who we don't see often but are still undecided.

DogsAndGin · 18/06/2022 11:44

@chardaboo we used the nubologists.com

I sent all the scan piks over at about 11am and they sent my prediction at 5am with a 93% certainty! Make sure you tell them how far along you were at the point of the scan.

chardaboo · 18/06/2022 12:06

@DogsAndGin cool ! I managed to get on it too and they predicted a girl but gave it 80% prediction. I guess will find out in 4 weeks 😂 I think it will be a boy though

lovesT · 18/06/2022 13:52

I think we announced my pregnancy on social media with our daughter around 4 months pregnant so about where I am now but we haven't done anything yet! Have told fiends and family as we see them and will probably share something soon in social media as we have friends in different parts of the country/ world but it's really up to each mum/ couple what you do! I'm excited to post it but happy waiting a bit longer (I'm 16 weeks now)

Meowcat89 · 18/06/2022 15:07

I'm 16+1 today. I told parents pretty much straight away then we told other close family, friends and work after I'd had my 12 week scan. Planning on doing a FB announcement tomorrow for Father's Day. Feels fitting because I found out the day before Mother's day and got to tell my mum on Mother's Day, so just feels significant. Going for a private scan shortly so we have a more updated scan photo ☺️

Mommabear20 · 18/06/2022 16:18

Am 15+3 today, have started a stock pile of nappies and a couple of packets of water wipes for baby, gonna get 1 thing with each weeks shopping until baby is born so shouldn't have to buy things for a while after its arrival. My plan is to have enough nappies, pull ups, wipes and formula for all 3 DC and dog food for the 2 fur babies to last us until the end of January to avoid any urgent dashes to the store in the first month postpartum.

I have my 16 week midwife appointment on Wednesday and I'm so nervous about if I've gained loads of weight. I really haven't been eating well. Just eating what I can and what I want. Already overweight and was warned not to gain too much weight. I don't think I dare weigh myself beforehand 😩

Also struggling with prenatal depression. Already struggled with mental health prior to pregnancy and it's just gotten so much worse. Going to get signed off from work because being there just drains me of the small amount of positivity I have in my life lol

@AG96 hope you are ok, I suffer with my mental health too, so far I’ve been ok but had off days here and there. At the beginning I just pretended I wasn’t pregnant in an attempt to save my mental health as my anxiety is so bad and I knew the more I thought about it the worse my anxiety would be, then my anxiety leads to depression too.

Mentioned to the group a bit ago I hadn’t told my other half I was pregnant (pregnancy not planned and I suffer bad anxiety and needed to come to terms with it myself first and I knew he’d be supportive regardless) I’ve just told him we’re expecting this evening, was waiting till Father’s Day but decided I couldn’t hold out till tomorrow just incase and we have a busy day planned with the kids and family….anyway he was so shocked, couldn’t believe it as we’d taken the morning after pill but I got a good response after the initial shock….phew glad I finally told him…12 week scan on Tuesday 😬 x

PinkFizz1 · 18/06/2022 20:21

@AG96 I have my 16wk appointment on Wednesday too… are you sure they wish you?

At my booking appointment the midwife who weighed me said they wouldn’t weigh me again throughout the pregnancy. I have a history of body image/weight problems and now I am FREAKING out that I’m going to be weighed at this appointment. Is it definitely a thing? I’m regretting all the takeaways I’ve been living on now… 😔😔

AG96 · 18/06/2022 20:46

@Jaaxe my anxiety has been so bad so I can completely understand. So glad your partner took the news well, makes the whole thing so much nicer. Fingers crossed your scan goes well and hopefully relieves some anxiety for you 😊

@PinkFizz1 I think they will weigh me because of high bmi. Not sure if it's the done thing as this is my first pregnancy. I did just weigh myself on my home scales and I've gained 1lb. I'm shocked, was expecting it to be loads. I've had like 5 kfcs in the last 8 weeks and so many packets of crisps. Also pasta. I wonder if my body is just using so much to grow baby. Also weighed myself at the end of the day so I bet if I did it in the morning I wouldn't have actually gained anything

lifechanginglemoncake · 18/06/2022 20:51

I think it varies from place to place but if they said they wouldn't weigh you again that's likely the case. I wasn't weighed again in my first pregnancy apart from at the end when the consultant wanted to see what I'd gained.

Don't forget you can refuse to be weighed or ask what the clinical reason is for taking your weight. Once they have your initial weight unless you're concerned (especially towards the end about excess fluid and swelling etc) then there shouldn't be a need to weigh you again. You can also be weighed and ask not to be told the weight. Whatever works for your mental health.

Sunshine92 · 18/06/2022 20:58

I didn’t get weighed throughout my pregnancy with DS, only at the beginning.
I had a high BMI and GD.
Like others have said, you can refuse to be weighed and I’m sure if there will be a negative impact on your mental health then they will totally understand 😀

Laughingmole · 18/06/2022 21:15

@PinkFizz1 i had my 16 week appointment on Thursday. They didn’t weigh me, just did a urine sample and blood pressure. I don’t think it’s something they do at this appointment, especially as they’ve told you they won’t xxx

PinkFizz1 · 18/06/2022 21:21

Thank you all ❤️

siobhanmt247 · 19/06/2022 08:27

I've still been obsessed with checking my weight myself despite working with a coach to try not to. I've gained 11lb in the first trimester which has been getting me down as I've tried to make sure I don't over eat. I'm hoping I just don't gain too much in the next trimester

HayleyBean · 19/06/2022 10:03

I initially lost about 8lbs due to morning sickness but I've put 4lb on. Actually it's probably more as I've been at the Isle of Wight festival all weekend and eating like an absolute king...if I can't drink I'm going to eat!

Amphibian94 · 19/06/2022 10:23

Anyone had a pregnancy massage before? I assume they are safe? I am on holiday and the spa offer a specific pregnancy massage... I'm 16 weeks now and scan a few days ago showed everything OK. Thoughts!? X

Tofu35 · 19/06/2022 11:12

Hey @Amphibian94 I wouldn't be surprised if the spa had a policy regarding pregnancy (what trimester/how many weeks) for their treatments. Sorry I don't have any direct experience to help with this, but hopefully someone has been there!

Is anyone doing anything nice for father's day? Think I saw a few posts about getting cards from the bump earlier this month!

Jampot36 · 19/06/2022 13:27

Hello...been keeping up reading everyones lovely updates but for some reason not felt i had much to contribute.

13 weeks tomorrow and desperate for some energy to come back, went out for pizza yesterday afternoon and a few "drinks" but wàs shattered by 5. Eating is improving thankfully but still more attracted to junk food.

I have an obstetrician appointment tomorrow i think because I'm classed as a high risk ...its a phone appt. Anyone know what to expect?

Sdoubleyou · 19/06/2022 13:59

@Amphibian94, not me personally (yet), but my friends and colleagues have gotten and they really enjoy them. One swears by weekly massages as she's having lots of pain in her third trimester. If they're done by someone who's trained, they're fine and even beneficial starting in the second trimester.

Afternoon ladies

Last night I booked for a private gender scan at 16 weeks for 16th July so I can't wait for that. Has anyone had one with previous pregnancies and it been accurate? I'm kinda second guessing it with it only being 16 weeks not 20 lol

ElephantGrey101 · 19/06/2022 15:35

A prenatal massage sounds lovely. I had terrible SPD in my last pregnancy so I am sure it will start up again soon. That would be so helpful.

I think I was only weighed once in the whole of my last pregnancy but I was an average weight. I have lost 2 stone in 3 weeks as I am really sick. I thought I had been doing better since I was on anti sickness tablets but I am still struggling to eat.

DogsAndGin · 19/06/2022 19:25

Hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend girls! We’ve got a two page to do list, and really cracked on this weekend! Spayed the dog, put shelves up, made a roman blind, and cleared out the spare room and put it all in the loft and charity shop!

But, one step forward, two steps back - the wall in the nursery has just started to crumble away… turns out it’s all 200 year old horsehair plaster 😩😩😩 it will all need to be pulled down and replastered.

Anyway! Just wondered if anyone has read any baby or pregnancy books that they would recommend? I really liked Bringing up Bebe by Pamela Druckerman
