Starting a new thread due to last one being full. Such a valuable place to share our journey! Not going to tag anyone in case they don't want to be tagged.

Marching towards or in the beginning of the second trimester!

Is anyone else suffering badly with spots? I swear I gain at least 4 overnight every night and they're driving me crazy 🤪

Mommabear20 · 12/06/2022 15:03

@JC84 not spots specifically, but my skin is awful at the moment 😡 completely different from my other two pregnancies!

lifechanginglemoncake · 12/06/2022 15:04

Anyone else having hair loss? In my last pregnancy my hair ended up shiny and thicker and then I had awful post partum hair loss. This time it seems like I'm shedding before getting the good bit!

JC84 · 12/06/2022 16:00

@Mommabear20 the rest of my skin isn't too bad but my face is really dry despite copious amounts of good moisturiser and so many spots 😩
@lifechanginglemoncake yes me, I'm losing as much as normal leaving it everywhere I go, last time I didn't lose any during pregnancy lost A LOT afterwards but my nails are growing well 😂

AG96 · 12/06/2022 16:11

Does anyone know what they want to do about feeding? Bottle, breast, combination?
I'm hoping to breast feed but already feel nervous about it due to the nipple pain I've been experiencing so far. Feels like my nipples are on fire in the morning. Takes about an hour to wear off. So sore

@JC84 I’m definitely spottier! One of my kids has pointed it out too 😂

@lifechanginglemoncake no hair loss but I tend to get loads of hair in pregnancy then lose it all after birth in clumps!

@AG96 i plan on breastfeeding, i breastfed my other 3 for around 18months (give or take a month or 2) once you are established it’s so so easy and convenient, I realise it isn’t for everyone but I absolutely loved breastfeeding all of mine, it creates a special bond that nobody else has with them and you don’t need to think about getting bottles together before leaving the house and sterilising all the time. It is hard at the start especially if you haven’t done it before, my nipples bled with my first and I had to pump to bring my milk through and it feels like they’re constantly feeding, it’s so hard for the first week but perseverance is key and then it’s so much easier. I can totally see why people give up though and don’t think they can do it. Would recommend getting all the help from the breastfeeding support people (they’re called FAB where I am) they’re brilliant and also buying lanisoh nipple cream and a decent breast pump if your really keen to do it x

RhiRhi1996 · 12/06/2022 16:32

@AG96 I will be a first time mum, so this probably won't go to plan at all. But I'd like to exclusively breast feed for first 6 months then wean off. But hearing how hard it is, the nipple pain etc, the indemand feeding/ tiredness, who knows...

For me the benefits of breast feeding are too great & it seems like an obvious choice but I do know its easier said than done and I may not last 6 months. From what I've read, breast feeding can be quite stressful and painful so i am anticipating that

I did see these little nipple cover things on amazon, they have good reviews, idk if anyone has used them before. But a dad was saying his wife was very nearly giving up breast feeding due to the pain, and these saved her. The reviews are good so I will definitely be trying them out.

@AG96 was planning to breastfeed too but also worried about the pain, my nipples are a bit unique as I have one inverted and one normal 😂so I duno how that would work.

@RhiRhi1996 thanks for the tip on those wee nipple covers that's handy to know !

Chanel05 · 12/06/2022 17:00

@AG96 I'm hoping to breastfeed this time. I wasn't able to with my dd as I lost so much blood that my milk never came in.

lifechanginglemoncake · 12/06/2022 17:02

I'm planning to breastfeed. It wasn't straightforward with my son and we did combination feeding for a long time and we used those nipple shields for months. However, once he dropped the shields and started solids it got much easier and we stuck at it until he self-weaned at 2 years old. I'd say plan what you'd like but be willing to adjust!

JC84 · 12/06/2022 17:42

My intention is to breast feed but I'm going to have the bottles etc in incase it doesn't go to plan. I fed my little boy until 6 or 7 months and then started weaning as he was in nursery for 11 hours 4 days a week from 8.5 months. I didn't experience much pain feeding unless he bit 😱 and it was much easier to go out etc but meant I had to do it all

lovesT · 12/06/2022 17:49

@AG96 I'll be breastfeeding, I've breastfed my daughter for 2 years. I had some pain in the beginning as my nipples got used to it and we worked on her latch but after that it was so easy. If you plan to breastfeed I'd look up your nearest breastfeeding support so they can help you if you want or need it 😊 it takes a bit of time for you and baby to learn but when you've both got it it can be lovely. I was lucky that we didn't have too many problems but the right support will help you have the best chance at a good journey x

lovesT · 12/06/2022 17:53

@RhiRhi1996 it is/ can be painful at the beginning but so much of it is to do with babies latch and there is so much you can do to help that and stop the pain. It shouldn't be painful really after a short while! Like I said below look for local breastfeeding support groups and hopefully they can help. Nose to nipple really helped us, it feels like you should put their mouth to nipple but actually nose to nipple gets them to open their mouths wider. I hope anyone planning to breastfeed has a good journey with it as it can be so special 🥰😊

Mommabear20 · 12/06/2022 17:56

@AG96 we'll be formula feeding again, I tried BF with my first, but while I had plenty of colostrum, my actual milk never came in. Second was straight onto a bottle!
I'd highly recommend the SMA pre made bottles with teets for the hospital if anyone plans to formula feed

AG96 · 12/06/2022 18:01

So many plan on breast feeding! Hopefully this thread continues once we all have our lovely babies in December so we can see how each other gets on. Will definitely look into the breast feeding support and plan on speaking to my midwife when I see her on the 22nd. It is something that's important for me to do but also not going to put too much pressure on myself.

I have pretty severe eczema, it's all over my body and makes me very self conscious as it's obvious. Constantly flaking face, arms and hands. Also severe on my nipples. Already using lanisoh nipple cream to hopefully get them in good enough condition. They are cracked, dry and bleed already. Also regularly infected. I was hoping my eczema would improve with pregnancy, which I suppose it has but still considered severe. Fingers crossed I am able to breast feed 😊

Hi all, thanks for setting this thread.
13w4d, super excited as we’ve been through a long fertility journey, it’s still sinking in!
This is my furthest pregnancy so are there any books that other mums have found useful?!
Nice to have this support network 😊

stuntbubbles · 12/06/2022 18:09

Aaargh, lost you all as I guess I took a day off Mumsnet when the last thread finished 😂 but finally found you all.

Haven't caught up on the whole thread as I’m knackered and lazy and my sickness is ramping up at 11 weeks. Projectiled all over the kitchen floor this morning. Unfazed DD just raised an eyebrow over her weetabix and said “That’s not nice”.

Planning on breastfeeding; breastfed number one til she was 2.5, including hourly overnight til she was 19 months 😬 Let’s hope this one has a more sensible attitude…

Scan on Wednesday and the scanxiety is high!

BuchananBaby · 12/06/2022 19:01

@AG96 I'm planning on trying breastfeeding with this baby however DD was formula fed. Not putting pressure on myself though and the plan is to introduce an expressed bottle within a few weeks. Little bit worried though as I've heard the hospital I'm having the baby in is pretty rubbish with breastfeeding support but the support when home is meant to be fab

@stuntbubbles I love the 'more sensible attitude' 🙈😂 when DD was a newborn I was always asking her why she wouldn't just cooperate 🙈😂😂😂

@Adenike85 congratulations 🥰❤️ I don't think I actually read any pregnancy books I just googled a lot 🙈

baby2in2022 · 12/06/2022 19:05

@JC84 I had awful spots in my last pregnancy and when the spots went they left awful red marks. It took about 9 months after my son was born for it to settle down and the marks to fade. I used skin and me an online dermatologist to sort them out. I'm spotty this time as well but not as bad so far. Although I can't remember when my face for really bad last time. Might have been further along. Such a pain x

DogsAndGin · 12/06/2022 19:57

I fainted today 😢 it was quite scary and so sudden! I felt completely fine, cleaning the kitchen, making a salad, and then just suddenly blacked out and next thing I know I’m on the floor! I have my scan tomorrow, so hoping to tell them then, and ask for advice. My blood pressure is fine apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️

@JC84 you are not alone - I am very spotty too! Like a teen!

@AG96 I think I’m going to give breast feeding a go. But, no pressure - fed is best. I’ll take mini premade formula bottles to hospital in case it doesn’t work out.

AG96 · 12/06/2022 20:15

@DogsAndGin that must have been so scary for you! Hope you are okay and this doesn't happen again 💐

BuchananBaby · 12/06/2022 21:08

Aww @DogsAndGin I hope you're okay that must have been so scary ☹️ make sure you take it easy 🥰

I would advise everyone to check what their hospital provides before packing their case. I packed EVERYTHING and my hospital gave us most of it and gave us more home! My hospital provided nappies, blankets, cotton wool, premade bottles, sanitary pads etc. They even gave us a pack of 6 premade bottles home. I could have saved myself loads of space if I'd known before I went 🙈😂😂

HayleyBean · 12/06/2022 21:39

@AG96 I'll be trying to breastfeed too. It's my first so I have no idea if I'll manage but I really want to try. Might as well put my suddenly massive boobs and cone shaped nipples to use!

JC84 · 12/06/2022 22:17

@baby2in2022 they're mostly little tiny ones above my eyebrows or those ones you can feel coming for days before on my jaw line/ chin and I can't leave them alone so they are taking forever to shift and by the time they go there are another 4 😂
Oh gosh @DogsAndGin that must have been a bit frightening! Hope all OK now? I was really dizzy sitting standing or laying from about 2 weeks until 11 or 12, when I went at 5 weeks and saw a nurse practitioner she said it was likely uti causing it but it didn't shift after the antibiotics so guess it was a pregnancy joy!
@BuchananBaby my hospital gave me nothing 8 years ago - so he was wearing nappies and clothes that were too big, I even had to take him to the shower with me 😂

chardaboo · 13/06/2022 07:09

just wondering - those who have had 12 week scans - do you need to drink water before going to ensure a full bladder (I had to do this with early scans but wasn't sure if need to for the 12 week one)
