@legaltigger I'm due 10th. If I was due earlier I probably wouldn't go in either.

We have a lot of new staff this year so I'm wanting to get to know them before I go off plus I think by that point I will be wanting some time out of the house before baby comes ☺️

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher I hope you manage to get to 37 weeks. I think with having the holidays it won't be too bad me going in for 3 days. If it was a different time of year I would of finished much earlier.

@madeleine85 that's good that your work are very flexible, makes it so much easier.
I don't think many people realise how hard it was for people in education throughout covid. I work in year 1. We had keyworker in school and I also had to do online sessions with the children at home. They tried their hardest but it wasn't easy at all for them. So glad that things are more normal now.

@annlee3817 good luck with your induction. It's all becoming so real now. My daughter is getting very excited to meet her little brother or sister

Another teacher here!

5 more weeks of term left and then I will be technically be on mat leave (although doesn’t officially start until 1st Sept).

Counting down the days…

HaresHoping · 12/06/2022 07:20

Good for you all the teachers! If anyone deserves a little bit of extra mat leave after the hell of the past couple of years it's you 😘

My lower back and hips just keep getting worse. Walked about a bit in town yesterday morning, only for 45 mins tops, but then by mid afternoon I was seizing up which seems to happen whenever I walk for any length of time now. In bed last night a few times when I changed position because of aching hips I felt an almighty click in my lower back. It didn't hurt but it is slightly disconcerting 😂 I am quite a clicky person though. Hopefully all the clicking will mean it's not seized up today!

I'm having hips and back problems. I'm ok when I'm moving around and I'm doing my best to keep moving atm. My problem is when I stop, it feels like a seize up, especially at night time.

legaltigger · 12/06/2022 09:09

Also here with the nighttime painful hips! If I lay on one side too long it's very painful

MummyToBe2022 · 12/06/2022 16:01

@HaresHoping that sounds awful.
Really hope you are more comfortable soon.

My hips aren't sore but I'm not sleeping at night due to my legs going numb and cramping.
The joys of pregnancy

HaresHoping · 12/06/2022 18:29

Oh no @MummyToBe2022 that sounds awful too! 🤦🏻‍♀️ the joys of pregnancy indeed. Sorry to hear you're suffering too @legaltigger @TurquoiseDreamCatcher 😔

I'm starting Aquanatal classes this week so I wonder if that will help. My friend said swimming was the one thing that sorted her out when she got to the third trimester.

OP posts:
legaltigger · 12/06/2022 18:35

Yeah I think in water everything lifts and feels a lot lighter as well!

MummyToBe2022 · 12/06/2022 19:05

@HaresHoping I think I might try swimming. Thinking about it I had no trouble on holiday even though my legs and feet had swelled and it felt so nice to be in the water as I didn't feel like the whale I look like 😂

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 12/06/2022 19:58

@HaresHoping I'm off to google aquanatal classes 😊 good shout.

I went to hospital today with reduced moments. The midwife was lovely about it. They found madam with the Doppler and the midwife could hear her moving around. No reason for me not feeling the movements though. The midwife told me to go straight back if I had any further worries.

HaresHoping · 12/06/2022 20:10

@legaltigger I wish I could sleep in a pool 😂

@MummyToBe2022 haha I'm sure you look nothing like a whale! You will just look like a glowing mummy ❤️

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher bless you that must have been scary. So glad all is ok, they do like to keep us on our toes these babies don't they 😳

MummyToBe2022 · 12/06/2022 20:14

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher I was the same the other day. Baby doesn't move when I'm at work which is normal but is usually a right fidget at night.
Friday night I hardly felt anything the same as Saturday morning.
I ate, drank, laid on my side, did the flashlight, played music, jiggled my belly and nothing.
Went in bath and the little tinker started moving and hasn't stopped now.

It's so worrying when it happens. Glad the heartbeat was found 💕

ALYGirl · 13/06/2022 08:44

Another teacher here. Due date 1st September so I have 4 more weeks of work, get paid in full for the Summer holidays then officially go on mat leave on the 1st. Also then down to go back to work for 1 day on the 8th July next year for 1 day so that then I get paid again for the next Summer holidays. Couldn't have timed it better. 14 months off but only 8 actually on mat leave. Just got to hope little boy doesn't come early as he would then be the youngest in his school year.

LaddieCthulu · 13/06/2022 10:53

@ALYGirl Is it so bad if they are the youngest in their year? Lots of people have said this to me, "you don't want them coming early"... But... I was an august baby and never struggled. The oldest kids in my year weren't outstanding either.

GlitteryGreen · 13/06/2022 11:19

@LaddieCthulu I'd actually be delighted if this baby came in August, but probably unlikely as I'm not due til the 12th September. I'd prefer August because my own birthday is in September so I'd rather be home and free by then. Also don't want my birthday being ignored because of baby's birthday for the foreseeable! 😂

I am one of the oldest in my year and a couple of my best friends are July/August babies and I've never noticed any difference in ability between us (we went to school together).

I imagine it's tough for the first year or so in terms of confidence and long days at school, but after that I'd hope it evens out for many?

GlitteryGreen · 13/06/2022 11:28

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher @MummyToBe2022 The movement thing is so hard isn't it? I'd definitely say there is no discernible pattern for me so far...it's pretty random. The only vague 'pattern' is I usually get a bit of movement after I eat, but even that is not guaranteed and I often don't get anything then either.

Baby sometimes responds (but more often doesn't) if I try things like music, laying on my side makes no difference, jiggling belly makes no difference, light makes no difference... My boyfriend hasn't even ever felt a kick yet because every time I get him to feel it stops 😅

It's stressful but I'm just trying not to get too caught up on it yet since there has never been a solid pattern for me.

HaresHoping · 13/06/2022 12:31

@LaddieCthulu @GlitteryGreen these comments make me feel so much better! I've been worrying about an August baby (I'm due 6th Sept) because I remember a boy in my class at reception who started about a term or so later than the rest of us, and he just seemed so young and small at the time. It's lovely to hear that it evens out for a lot of people, and my judgement has clearly been skewed a little bit ☺️

OP posts:
ALYGirl · 13/06/2022 12:40

Personally from my experience it does make a big difference for the first few years. Going into reception when you have only just turned 4 is a massive difference to when you are about to turn 5. They miss out on a whole extra year of being at home/nursery and learning through play. Completely understand there are exceptions to this, but if I had a preference I would much rather my boy the oldest rather than the youngest in the year.

GlitteryGreen · 13/06/2022 12:51

@ALYGirl Yeah totally get that and see where you are coming from, but I guess I just see it as the comparison is only really relevant when it's the very youngest compared against the very oldest?

I feel like people only seem to worry about it with August babies when actually there will be children born all along the way. Don't get me wrong, someone starting school just after turning 4 is really little, but presumably so are the June & July babies who are starting then too, there is only a matter of a few weeks' difference for them.

Having a September birthday is great though :) Plus I do remember my August-born friend always hating her birthday through school because it was harder to have a birthday party with everyone on holiday and not able to hand out invites at school etc.

annlee3817 · 13/06/2022 14:22

Yeah we've also had that said to us a lot, but DD is a June baby, so still one of the youngest, and she was at nursery from six months old (1 day initially, upped to three days by ten months). She did seem so young on her first day at school, but really thrived. As an August born myself, I don't remember it being an issue, you've always got the option to keep them back if you wish to, but then I believe they wouldn't start in reception?

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 13/06/2022 16:27

I'm a September baby, the section date has been suggested as the day after my birthday, although I'm happy to share. My sister is an august baby and my mum always talks about how tired and tiny she was when she started reception.

One of my best friends is an august baby and she is the most intelligent person I know so education didn't hold her back. I was stressing about it but have decided that I can't control when the baby comes, what will be, will be 😊

legaltigger · 13/06/2022 17:41

My girl is a July baby so she's the youngest in her year. She's not doing badly but she still has a lot of toilet accidents and she is EXHAUSTED by the end of the week. It's got better as the year has gone on but every end of the half term she's having accidents every day and is very grumpy and ratty.
If you had an august baby, at least you'd get your nursery hours earlier.

madeleine85 · 13/06/2022 18:20

My MIL is a teacher of younger children, and had a daughter that they put one year up. Her takeaway was that the first 1-2 school years are where the most struggling to catch up happens, but that generally they then get through it and there is no difference. They just tend to be a bit more tired/whiny/find it harder to keep up. She said hers did fine in daycare, it wasn't until she started school that they noticed any change vs the older ones. Ultimately it didn't really make a difference which was reassuring to know!

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 14/06/2022 08:51

Morning all, how is everyone?

I am at the hospital having my glucose test. I had brought a bottle of water with me, but I've been told I'm not even allowed that during the 2 hour testing period 😮 I'm glad I've brought a book with me!

Wow you must have a grumpy midwife. They said to me it was very important to keep drinking water (not massive amounts). Hopefully the wait goes quickly for you. I had mine last week and it actually went quite quickly. Haven't heard anything since so I hope that means it was fine and there is nothing to report
