I had spotting pink, brown & red from 5 weeks-8 weeks mostly every day - called epu 3 times who wouldn’t see me unless I was filling a pad every 2 hours, was pretty ridiculous as I didn’t even do that when I had a miscarriage!
however touch wood nothing since and had a scan at 7 weeks.
hoping everything is ok for you, i know your worry!

Leila2022 · 20/06/2022 14:42

It’s worrying the varying advice different hospitals are giving. I’m sure most of them fob people off to keep their workload down

I spoke to the doctor on the phone who I had seen for every scan and she told me … spotting can be normal and it can also not be… so if you have repeated episodes of spotting it should always be checked out - doesn’t matter it you fill a pad or not

I have noticed with this pregnancy how poor the NHS has become - I had to seek out a doctor in the hospital today to ask about my thyroid results as the results aren’t normal and no one has followed up or chased anything regards my results for over one week … my appointment with the endocrine team isn’t for another month ! She said that’s too late and needs to be sorted now

really I’m not impressed :(

It is crazy how it differs from place to place isn't it, I've definitely noticed that when talking to others. They're clearly overstretched too. Even when I was previously having a MC and was filling pads and in pain they wouldn't see me, said they were too busy 😞

281717O · 20/06/2022 20:17

100% so at 7 weeks when I had the on and off spotting I also had side pain but was flying the next day, the lady in epu said ‘at least you’re going to a European country so if you do have an ectopic or anything like that the healthcare will be good’ absolutely terrible!
they are over stretched but I do sometimes think in ‘early pregnancy’ they’re not bothered.
I thought because of my loss at 22 weeks they would be more on the ball this time due to me being consultant led but they’re not!

Leila2022 · 21/06/2022 00:35

100% they don’t care about early pregnancy that much and are often very dismissive - they put it down to things out of anyones control …. Which I can understand as most reasons for loss between week 5 and 9 are just that - more to do with egg quality … but before that chemical pregnancies and early loss can be for other possible preventable reasons as I learned once I was referred to the fetal medicine unit … … there just isn’t the investment of funding in early pregnancy … that most of the time they just don’t know … and never take that any further as no funding to pay for it…

That being said … bleeding and miscarriage is really stressful and painful … so they should be making women feel as comfortable as possible in that moment …. Leaving women often in pain and distress to wait hours and hours in EPU to be seen - I have been left to wait 6 hours before - I think it’s dehumanising and disgusting ! Sometimes the attitudes from staff suck!

i get the NHS is really underfunded and being worked into the ground … but being kind and sympathetic goes a long way and doesn’t cost anything :(

it’s really awful when I think about it

HRA22 · 21/06/2022 06:33

@Leila2022 did you get checked yesterday? Are you ok?

Leila2022 · 21/06/2022 08:51

I ended up not being seen in EPU as the wait was too long.

I was more concerned with my thyroid results and the fact that no one has done anything about it … so had to hustle a doctor to get seen that day and he referred for an earlier appointment with the endocrine team. My spotting has since stopped - I’ll keep an eye over the next few days. Going to EPU really stresses me out and I am of the opinion that scans aren’t always safe for a pregnancy - not saying don’t have them - but I wanted to limit the amount - I have had 3 already this pregnancy and next one is in 10 days time at 13 weeks

thanks for asking - it’s been so stressful and the lack of care and service hasn’t helped at all… totally different experience with my previous pregnancy(s)

This is such a powerful message Leila, I am realising how much about pregnancy care/attitudes are incredibly old fashioned and how progress isn’t being made quickly enough.

I think Mumsnet should do a campaign on the early pregnancy stuff. They must have thousands and thousands of users directly affected.

Amber17 · 21/06/2022 12:36

Tommys have a campaign (with a petition you can sign) to improve miscarriage care and research, asking for the 3 miscarriages threshold to be reduced so women can be investigated and supported after any miscarriage.

Thanks Amber Flowers

HRA22 · 21/06/2022 14:07

We need to club together and support each other I’d say. I just received my midwife appointment and because I can’t meet due to work on short notice next Thursday, I can’t get another appt until mid august.

281717O · 21/06/2022 21:17

I’ve had some pink spotting when wiping tonight… roll on my scan next week! It’s so STRESSFUL!

It's soooo stressful isn't it 😭
My spotting has been for 3 days so far. I have a scan with the EPU Thursday morning xx

281717O · 22/06/2022 06:09

Hopefully that should put your mind at ease, our epu will not see me for spotting it’s so frustrating!
I do have a scan next Tuesday so I just need to sit and wait!x

Peonies94 · 22/06/2022 12:51

@281717O aw I feel you! That seems like such a long time to have to wait! Best of luck for your scan! @BabyGray you too!

we are coming up to the start of everyone’s 12 week scans now aren’t we? Those that are due the beginning of January? So exciting! Who has scans this week or week? My 12 week scan isn’t for ages as I’m due right at the end either the 31st jan or the 1st feb!

Babycakes1989 · 22/06/2022 13:10

I’m due 18.01.23 and my scan is 09.07.22 so I’ll be 12 & half weeks! Wish it was sooner but hey ho… I had a positive scan at 7.5 so praying things are still going well.

My symptoms seems to of eased up a bit, I’m eating a bit more so hoping that soon the jet lagged feeling pisses off too 🤣

Sassy144 · 22/06/2022 14:14

@Peonies94 my scan is next Tuesday 🤞❤️ excited and terrified at the same time.

Somatronic · 22/06/2022 14:19

My 12 week scan is tomorrow morning when I'll be exactly 12 weeks. Fingers crossed! At the moment my due date is the 5th of January and I don't expect it to change too much because it's an IVF baby so the dates should be pretty accurate.

Waitin · 22/06/2022 14:42

Sassy144 · 22/06/2022 16:05

@Somatronic eek good luck tomorrow!

HRA22 · 22/06/2022 17:37

Anyone have any old wife’s tails on gender or anything else pregnancy related?!

I’m having a scan at 11 weeks as a ‘check in’ and a 12 week scan at 13 weeks for any pregnancy challenges / abnormalities. I’m away for 2 weeks which is why there is a gap.

281717O · 22/06/2022 20:37

@HRA22 so I’ve only ever been pregnant with boys, had no sickness or really any symptoms at all but everyone I’ve known to be pregnant with girls has had sickness etc… obviously there’s no fact but something we always run by when finding out friends/family are pregnant!

fancyfrogs · 23/06/2022 07:12

@HRA22 I looked at the Chinese gender predictor calendar 😂 it was right last time and right for most people I know bizarrely
And last time I was all for savoury things and had a boy. I'm wanting sweet all the time now so wondering if this is a girl as that's what some say! I know there's nothing really behind all the old wives tales but I love trying them out haha I'm too impatient

281717O · 23/06/2022 08:03

I LOVE old wives tales! I’m going to do the Chinese predictor. So with boys I’ve always wanted double cheese burgers from McDonald’s and I’d eat tubs of sour cream and chive sauce (great craving) but last night had that for tea and it’s the only thing this whole pregnancy that has made me feel so nauseous!

Sassy144 · 23/06/2022 10:35

Anyone seeing a little bump yet? I'm 11+4 and sure it's no longer just bloat ☺️
