Hit 37 weeks on Friday, so officially full term! C-section scheduled for 39+3 so 2 weeks to go until baby day!

Had a lovely long weekend "glamping" in a fancy camping pod (not sleeping in a tent right now thank you!) best the West coast of Scotland and walking round some small, gentle hills that felt like mountains!

Glad to be back home with my giant pillow and my indigestion tablets now though!

mrkb · 29/05/2022 14:07

My parents just came to pick up our dog as they're looking after him until baby is here and I nearly cried saying goodbye to them! They're both so excited and I suddenly realised that my mum and dad are about to be grandparents and I suddenly feel like everything is changing! It's so exciting but now I'm at home alone without my dog's little paws trotting around and I've just been hit with such a bittersweet feeling that my old life will be over tomorrow and something entirely new and unknown is about to take its place. Did any of you who are mums already experience anything like this before you had your first? I'm just putting it down to a surge of pregnancy hormones for now 😅

Yecats22 · 29/05/2022 15:40

@mrkb I was the exact same when I said goodbye to my dog it all felt very real at that point.

sunflower198 · 29/05/2022 16:10

@mrkb yes I felt v similar last time!
I took ages trying to prepare my dog for the change, had a big plan in place for introducing him to baby etc.

This time around, I haven't really done any planning for my son or the dog!
I'm just hoping they accept there is going to be a newbie joining the crew!

I'm going in tomorrow for my c section and I feel so relaxed about it, it doesn't like life is about to change again!

Vimto1991 · 29/05/2022 17:09

@mrkb ive been feeling like this, although because the midwife said this is our last weekend baby free and to go out and do something special (lol I’m sat at home watching stranger things). It hit home just what is going to happen this week and I feel a little weird!! It’s such a big change as a FTM isn’t it! We have two cats, DH is going to have to pop home periodically to check on them although I’m nervous he will somehow miss the birth driving home (it’s an hour and a half round trip).

pregnancydiaries · 29/05/2022 17:15

So exciting @sunflower198 and SO jealous! What's your gestation?xx

pregnancydiaries · 29/05/2022 17:15

I've been to the toilet (poos - soz TMI) 4 times today and hoping this is it but I just know it won't be...

MrsTwentyNine · 29/05/2022 17:18

@Vimto1991 also sat at home watching stranger things on the sofa wondering when I'll be able to do this again 🤣

mrkb · 29/05/2022 17:18

@Yecats22 @sunflower198 @Vimto1991 glad I'm not a complete weirdo feeling like this!

Yes same @Vimto1991 with trying to do something special but that also feels like a lot of pressure haha! We went out for breakfast and dinner last night which was nice but neither of us have much motivation to do anything today. DH played golf this morning (I said he should make the most while he still can!) but came home feeling a bit deflated that he'd missed saying goodbye to the dog lol.

sunflower198 · 29/05/2022 17:20

@pregnancydiaries I'll be 38+4 tomorrow.
Last time around I was induced at 41 weeks and he came 3 days later - it's nice knowing the date this time around 😊

MrsNT · 29/05/2022 17:39

Ladies who are doing colustrum harvesting...how many times a week are you doing it? Ive got 5 syringes from midwife so would those be enough to take or do I need more?

MrsNT · 29/05/2022 17:41

Also who else has an official due date of or around 19th june?

MrsTwentyNine · 29/05/2022 17:47

@MrsNT my official is 15th but being induced on the 8th

pregnancydiaries · 29/05/2022 17:58

That's so exciting @sunflower198, we are hoping to hear our section date tomorrow which I'm thinking could probably be next week so I'm looking forward to having that date too! Will be thinking of you tomorrow 🤍

@MrsNT I'm due 21st June but will be getting section somewhere between 6th-14th!xx

RoseValleyRambles · 29/05/2022 18:19

Hot tip for anyone for whom sitting is a little uncomfy: if you've got a breastfeeding pillow, pop it in your chair or couch and sit on it. Takes all the pressure off the spine and makes it a bit easier to get up because of the extra height, too. I suspect it may also be helpful for any post birth pain...

MrsNT · 29/05/2022 19:35

@RoseValleyRambles
Ooh sounds like a good idea to use now..thanks for the tip
My colleague suggested it to be useful to sit on post partum if there are stitches down there

Octoblockisadick · 29/05/2022 20:20

Good luck for tomorrow @mrkb and @sunflower198 , do you know where you are on the lists?

@Vimto1991 it is a big change, but within literally days of their arrival you won't remember ever having life without them and you will wonder what on earth you used to do haha. Its the strangest feeling. I will never forget hearing my daughters first cry, I genuinely felt like I'd been shot or something, it was incredible.

@MrsNT I'm just doing it every so often when I feel like it. Increasing the frequency now because I'm trying to kick start labour so going to try most days. I was only doing once or twice a week before. I've got quite a few syringes worth, but only because I'm planning for feeding issues based on my daughter.

Tonight I'm having another clary sage and peppermint bath, but trying some acupressure too (link if anyone is interested greatist.com/health/acupressure-points-inducing-labor). Might as well give it a go!

MrsNT · 29/05/2022 20:34

@Octoblockisadick where did you order extra syringes from? Would one every other day be sufficient? Im 37 weeks at the moment

beansprout55 · 29/05/2022 20:55

Oh my goodness @Prema112, glad all ok and totally understand why that induction looks tempting after that. Hope you're ok?x
Did the Dr suggest that sex was the cause for it? Could he explain the erratic movements and heart rate?
I don't get any side effects from sex, but if I orgasm I do notice braxton hicks follow (sometimes!). It does make me wonder if that's bad or causes baby distress, MW's and google seem to think it's perfectly fine but I don't understand how muscle contractions wouldn't bother baby!!??

Wow, two babies will be born the group tomorrow (at least!) - SO exciting. @mrkb & @sunflower198 good luck mummies! xxx

Octoblockisadick · 29/05/2022 21:19

@MrsNT I got some from amazon, just searched colostrum collector and managed to find the same brand the midwife gave me. I'm sure that would be plenty, I think the idea behind collecting is more that you have some just in case there are issues rather than specifically planning on using it. I found learning the technique quite useful too, with my daughter I only started expressing after she was born and found it difficult, this time I'm quite confident in what to do so hopefully that will help.
Quite good if you are having a section too, as the spinal block comes up quite high so it can be hard to hold baby on your chest, my husband did the skin to skin in theatre with my daughter so this time he will be able to give the colostrum if we have another section.

EarlGreywithLemon · 29/05/2022 21:44

One word of warning about cushions post birth, from a couple of midwives and a women’s physio: if you do have stitches and need to sit on a cushion, it’s best to go for a gutter shape rather than a doughnut shape. Apparently the blood and swelling can pool into the scar area with a doughnut cushion . I hired a Valley Cushion from NCT after my tear, but you can also make one from two rolled up towels.

unknownscot · 29/05/2022 21:47

For those doing CH, I have one in the freezer from the other day (0.4ml) can I top that syringe up with more from another day? Or leave it at that?

I only get about .3/.4ml every other day.

needarainbow · 29/05/2022 23:46

@MrsNT my official date is the 19th June as well so now officially at full gestation. Already doing some things like walking up and down the stairs, eating dates and on the birthing ball to try and get things started because baby has been measuring 90th percentile + for the last 4 weeks and I'm terrified it will be huge 😂. I'm a bit frustrated as I intended to ask the midwife for a CH kit at my 36 week appt but she never showed because apparently she's on holiday. Not sure why she booked me in knowing she wasn't here but anyway 🤦‍♀️ its left me a bit in the lurch cause noone has even discussed a birth plan with me! I'm supposed to be consultant led and I've never had an appt through to meet with them so got no appts between now and due date! Totally ready to meet this little one now 🥰

needarainbow · 29/05/2022 23:47

@unknownscot at my antenatal class someone asked that and they said to just stick to a new syringe per day. Absolutely no idea why though!

MrsNT · 30/05/2022 00:27

@needarainbow im consultant led but have only had a phone appointment. I had to call hospital to arrange it so maybe try that. They are supposed to check in around week 36/37
