Anyone else due January 2023?! Found out yesterday I'm pregnant with baby #2. If my dates are right, I'm 3+6, due 27th January! My daughters a Jan baby, but was due feb (she was 3 weeks early). May just must be a very fertile month for us! We fell pregnant last May too, but never met them😢.

Congratulations everyone whose had their little bundles of joy already 🥰🥰

Still no sign of baby here, had a growth scan yesterday where they've said she's around 8lb 11oz now. Was hoping something would have started by now labour wise before Saturday, getting bit nervous about being induced. Not long now though and my little girl will be here hopefully.

My little one measured 8lb11oz yesterday, too! Are you booked in for an induction already? They've booked me in for Monday and I'm terrified!

I'm booked in for an induction this Saturday 7th, which was arranged two weeks ago. Silently bricking it im not going to lie!

Is this your first?

TokenGinger · 04/01/2023 10:24

@Bear486 I'd be bricking it, too! This is my second and DS was painful enough with contractions etc., that I'm dreading what it'll be like when enforced with an induction. I'd have refused an induction ordinarily but they said due to her size, she's at increased risk of shoulder dystocia and getting lodged in the birth canal, and they'd need to dislocate her shoulders if they happens so that's frightened me into accepting it to reduce the risk that'll come with her being even bigger.

Is this your first? Xx

I've missed so many updates from you all. Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies.

Our DS is doing really well and we're hoping to bring him out of the NICU tomorrow. We're still at my parents house so our journey back to Cornwall is going to be loooong and we still don't know when that will be.

I've been having horrible flashbacks everytime I go into my mums bathroom of the morning it happened so that is a bit of a struggle at the moment. Hopefully when we're back home that stops as I won't be having constant reminders.
I did get put on a hormone drip at the hospital on the lowest setting and that ramped the contractions up so much that I was not ready for it and had a huge panic attack when I needed to push. They said active labour started at 13:30 and DS was born by 14:30, so very quick. The pushing was also just 10 minutes.
I was absolutely fine with my DD labour and the midwife said it's really common for women to have the reaction I did on the drip because you haven't had the time to get used to contractions ramping up. It was a horrible experience but the staff at this hospital have been amazing.

H44123 · 04/01/2023 17:46

@bedfordmum2210 congratulations she is gorgeous!

@lilroo87 great news your son is doing well, everything crossed he is out of NICU tomorrow for you! Hopefully when you’re back in your own home you feel better too.

Can’t believe all the babies that have come already and are coming very soon! Feels surreal we’re at that stage now.

I feel like I have ages to go as I’m only 36+4 weeks but I don’t mind really. I’m still debating a sweep at my 39 week midwife appointment. I’m thinking of possibly going for it to try prevent induction later down the line. I keep getting these random kicks/pops in my stomach like every second for maybe 5 minutes at a time. No idea what they are as they are constant like a beat of a drum, DR Google said could be hiccups 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah this is my first which I think is making it all even more scary! Not knowing what to expect when I go in on Saturday, what if I ring the maternity ward at 8am Saturday to be told a time to go in like I've been advised and they say I can't go in etc... so many things starting to worry me its unreal.

VixenAndKits · 04/01/2023 20:36

@TokenGinger @Bear486
I saw you guys mention induction - I've been scheduled in for one on the 10th and I'm absolutely terrified too!! Mine is due to all the conditions I've been having but they're happy with baby's health so they've opted for this over a C-section.

Not sure if it's the same for you guys, since each area has its own rules - but I'll be alone for the whole induction process... It makes things a lot worse for me mentally, I don't do well with hospital stays. I'm a wimp! 😆 I've already been told my partner is only allowed in when labour officially starts, so while I'm in the antenatal ward getting the induction medication (however many days that takes) I'm completely on my own. Then it's just hoping he gets here in time when it all kicks off...

I'm bricking it!! Been told to bring loads of entertainment but no idea what to bring that'll get me through the nerves. What are you guys bringing?

I've not been told my OH can't be with me for the induction process, they best not tell me that on the day! I've been so angry recently which I've put down to hormones I think I'd unintentionally snap at someone 😬

I'm taking a mix, got a colouring book, word search puzzle type book, reading book and couple of magazines so things that won't take up too much room but a bit of variety. I'm easily bored when sat so not looking forward to the start when notice much is happening.

TokenGinger · 04/01/2023 22:33

@lilroo87 Fingers crossed for the little one coming out of NICU tomorrow. I've been thinking of you, wondering how he's been getting on and wondering how your journey back home will be. It must be so tough being far from home and your own comforts.

@Bear486 I know exactly what you mean. I feel really unsure of what's actually going to happen when I got in Monday. It was surreal when the doctor was taking me through it so all I actually absorbed was that I'll go in on Monday, they'll scan baby, then give me a pessary which she said is like a tampon and then I can go home and come back 24 hours later if labour hasn't progressed, but she said most women come back in active labour before the 24 hours is up. If not, I think she said they'll either give me some gel or pop my waters on the Tuesday, I can't remember which way around she said. A colouring book is a fab idea! I'd not thought of that. I think I might pack one. I find colouring quite calming so hopefully it'll help.

@VixenAndKits That's rubbish that you have to be alone! The doctor said to me that because they're only inducing due to size, and not concerns around the baby, that they will do an outpatient appointment where they give me a pessary and I can go home. She said they find women have a better labour experience if they're in their home comforts until Labour actually kicks in so I'm grateful for that, but she did say I can bring my mum in with me on Monday for the actual induction bit. I'm right in thinking this is second baby for you, too? She said to me they find induction happens much more quickly with second baby as they've already paved the way with the previous birth, so fingers crossed for a quicker induction for us both! I'm sure we had the same due date (16th). I wonder if we'll deliver the same day, too!

I'm not sure what to do entertainment wise. I actually hadn't thought of that! I don't have an iPad or tablet but I could take DP's iPad or DS's Kindle and download stuff on Netflix, or maybe just take some earphones for my phone and some books on my kindle.

VixenAndKits · 04/01/2023 22:58

@TokenGinger
Wish I was allowed to go home, I would have no issues with induction if I was allowed to go home. But I'll be admitted for the whole process because they need to keep an eye on all my issues. My own Mum was induced for me and my brother and she said she gave birth the same day - I hope I have the same luck!

Yeah we both had the 16th! Would be crazy in a nice way if we still ended up having our babies on the same day!

Wish I had a Kindle. Might ask my friends to recommend an engrossing book for me - I've read all my books so many times already and can't think of a new series to start!

TokenGinger · 04/01/2023 23:42

@VixenAndKits Could you download the Kindle app on your phone or tablet if you have one? I read on my phone quite a lot as I tend to forget to take my Kindle out with me for appointments or on the train etc., and it's great. If you do, sign up to Kindle Unlimited on Amazon, they've currently got 3 months for 99p (I'm not sure if that's per month or in total), and as soon as you've joined up, you can cancel straight away so you don't forget to cancel in 3 months' time.

If you like crime/detective series, I've been stuck into some really good ones on Kindle Unlimited recently. My favourites are:

Detective Zoe Finch series by Rachel McLean
The Dorset Crime series by Rachel McLean (you need to read the Zoe ones first)

I have a few others but they should keep you going if you do like a crime series. Just be careful to download them a book at a time rather than the entire series. If you "buy" the entire series as a box set, it charges, but if you download an individual book at a time, it's free with the Kindle Unlimited membership xx

Baby arrived safe and sound yesterday at 8.05pm by ‘emergency’ cesarian. It wasn’t actually an emergency they just pulled my planned section for today forward at the last minute as I was in triage because I’d gone into early labour and they said they wanted to keep me overnight but would still go ahead today but then they ended up changing their minds and fitting the section in at the end of the day!

Omg the labour part was not what I expected at all, I was having 2-3 painful contractions every 10 minutes lasting around a minute each and I was literally not even dilated… cervix was still high and completely closed. From everything I had read I expected manageable and infrequent contractions up until 4-5cm and then more painful as it progressed. I’m pretty glad I had the section in the end although I’ve not stood up yet…

LA9610 · 05/01/2023 05:59

Sorry should have also said it’s a boy!! And name is still tbc 🤣

VgerEdney · 05/01/2023 08:41

Congratulations @LA9610 !!!

TokenGinger · 05/01/2023 10:31

@LA9610 Congratulations! I'm so glad he's here safely. I am totally with you on the painful contractions. I had always assumed the hard part of childbirth was pushing... nobody ever warned me how utterly foul the contractions were and they were by far the hardest part of labour for me with DS1.

How much did baby weigh in the end? Were their predictions close? Xx

Bear486 · 05/01/2023 15:51

@LA9610 congratulations 🎊

So I had midwife this afternoon which was all well, she did a sweep and said my cervix is really low, nice and soft and I'm 1cm dilated, so let's hope things start naturally rather then me having the induction on Saturday 🤞

She talked me through everything for Saturday and I now feel more relaxed about it all. Well for now anyway haha!

TokenGinger · 05/01/2023 16:22

@Bear486 Eek already started to dilate! That's very exciting. Fingers crossed things start off themselves for you.

I need to Google what a sweep entails, I have no clue! I've been so "relaxed" about just going ahead however it goes that I've not really read into what each stage is.

Jusmakingit · 05/01/2023 16:30

Hope everyone has safe arrivals in the coming few days ! Congrats to everyone who has welcomed their little bundle.

im still hoping for an early birth lol but I actually did some reading today about birth plans, pain relief etc and learnt a few things so I’m more prepared this time round. I didn’t realise they offered morphine ! But can be harmful to the baby after birth and make them really drowsy .

I just would like a epidural lol 😂 or worst case a c section cause I’m so scared of things going wrong like my first birth. I had an induction for my first and really was a mess but everyone is different and I think everyone’s body responds differently. I had the drip that increased the contractions which wasn’t pleasant either .

Kerryw93 · 05/01/2023 16:42

Congratulations @LA9610 I hope you and baby boy are okay!!!!!

How was the section?!

I am in for baby to be turned on Tuesday ECV (37+4) . I am SO nervous!!!! I don't know what to expect. I've got the paperwork etc. I read the success rate is 50% , then the chances of turning back to breech is 5% . So realistically its 45% of working. . .

So confused as to what to do!

H44123 · 05/01/2023 19:04

@LA9610 Congratulations!!

I panicked today and went to maternity centre thinking reduced movements as I woke up with dull period type pains this morning and thought not moved much all day. They did the heartbeat and all ok so felt much better but I did feel bad going in not wanting to waste their time but they were lovely and said always go!

I think I have decided to go for a sweep in 2 weeks if nothing before to try reduce the need for an induction!

Somatronic · 05/01/2023 22:12

I came in last night with reduced movements and was diagnosed with pre eclampsia today so I'm being induced in the morning.

I was a bit frazzled but am trying to go with the flow. Had a sweep today too but nothing seems to be progressing despite a very favourable cervix. With the pre eclampsia I have no choice but to induce tomorrow, and I was always going to be induced at 40 weeks anyway (today was my due date) because it's hospital policy for IVF babies.

Hopefully I'll have a kid tomorrow some time!

Kerryw93 · 06/01/2023 06:43

Good luck today @Somatronic ! I hope it all runs smoothly!

Always best to go in and get checked. Better safe than sorry! Xxx

Brightonbelle87 · 06/01/2023 10:28

Hi ladies! Haven't posted for ages but have been catching up. Congratulations on the arrival of all the little babies so far!

I'm 40+4 today and had a check up yesterday but despite lots of cramps, mild contractions and a 'bloody show' my cervix is closed and high! So I'm waiting it out for another week, with an induction booked next Thursday.

Good luck for today @Somatronic!

TokenGinger · 06/01/2023 10:46

@Somatronic Good luck, today! I hope it all goes smoothly and look forward to hearing how the induction goes. I have no idea what to expect with mine so would love any lowdown when you feel fit and able to share any details with us. Sending you lots of well wishes and can't wait to hear when your little one has arrived ❤️

@Jusmakingit Your post last night about pain relief had me researching all different kinds of pain reliefs, lol. I remember with DS I didn't want anything before I went in as I was worried about the effect on him, then was begging for everything once the pain hit 😂

@Kerryw93 Yikes! Turning doesn't sound pleasant! I hope that goes okay for you xx

@H44123 I'm so glad you went in for monitoring. It's so much better safe than sorry and they genuinely don't mind. I've been in twice this week, two days after the other, and may end up in again today if she doesn't start moving this morning.

@Brightonbelle87 How are you feeling being overdue? It must feel such a slog at this point ❤️ I hope you're okay xx

H44123 · 06/01/2023 11:29

@Somatronic good luck and I hope all goes well!

Also looking forward to hearing all the birth stories when people are ready!

@TokenGinger yes I actually feel more comfortable to go in again should I need to as they were fab. When I was walking out I saw a poor lady coming struggling with contractions and it hit me like that could be me soon! Typical though as soon as the monitor went on my belly he was doing so much moving. But glad you’re going in too to get checked! I would say when baby is here the worry can stop but then it’s just a whole different level of worry/feeling for the rest of their life I imagine!
