@SamanthaVimes That's what im hoping for, just a quick in & out ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป
Im quite worried about the heat in the car though, im gonna have to make sure if we're released during the day, DH blasts that aircon so im not putting a tiny baby into an oven essentially ๐Ÿ™ˆ

@NamelessBaby1 that's odd about the breastfeeding, there was no requirement to stay in with my first and it's same with number 2 in a different trust. Must be a different trust thing.... Having said that if there's a breastfeeding counsellor or a lactation consultant on the ward with you I'd definitely see if they can check latch, tongue tie and position with you, more for peace of mind and confidence than anything else.

Mattieandmummy · 18/06/2022 10:48

@SamanthaVimes yep totally agree with you on the postnatal ward. I actually discharged myself the second day because it was pure hell!

Not looking forward to that again, I was actually wondering about paying for a private room.... Is anyone doing that? I'm having a C-section so I'll be in hopefully no longer than one night.

annie1994 · 18/06/2022 11:39

@strawberrysummer19 are you West or East Kent? Iโ€™m giving birth at Tunbridge Wells. The heat was just something else though wasnโ€™t it ๐Ÿฅต

@Coco9910 good idea about the frozen hot water bottle! I wish I had thought of that last night ๐Ÿ˜‚

NamelessBaby1 · 18/06/2022 12:34

Oh that's interesting none of you have had that, must admit I didn't question it as it sounded sensible to me although I would really rather not be in any longer than I have to and was hoping I'd be out the same day. Maybe if all goes well with the feeding straight away they will let me go!

Quite right @Lianna93 , I was thinking the same re going into the bigger one but it's just not worth it dealing with the bypass if we end up having to go during the day, and I'm literally 5 mins from St John's lol.

Lianna93 · 18/06/2022 12:38

@NamelessBaby1 Oh god that bypass has just gotten worse over the past year or so. Could you imagine having your baby on the hard shoulder because you've gotten stuck at Straiton ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚

OP posts:
NamelessBaby1 · 18/06/2022 13:18

Hahaha that would literally be my husband's worst nightmare ๐Ÿคฃ

Peters27 · 18/06/2022 14:08

Yep @kiwi17 I have period pains now for about 5 days, one night I couldn't actually sleep due to the severity but theb they eased off again! My midwife wasn't overly concerned at my routine appointment I wonder if it's the head engaging! But yes sometimes I'm like is this it starting and then nope it disappears!๐Ÿ™ˆ

kiwi17 · 18/06/2022 15:10

@Peters27 glad it's not just me! Haha they are annoying though and then you spend the night wondering if this is it. You might be right about engaging apparently when it's not your first they don't engage as early on so makes sense!

MollyRover · 18/06/2022 18:18

@Mattieandmummy I was explaining to DH about wards in the UK and Ireland and he was horrified. We are so lucky, rooms on the maternity ward here are the size of a studio apartment, pull out beds for papas and always always private. We do pay through the nose for mandatory insurance but it's times like this you realize where it's going.

KizboBaggins · 18/06/2022 19:51

@MollyRover wow whereabouts are you? (if you don't mind me asking!) That sounds brilliant. I've just done the virtual tour around my hospital and I'm not exactly buzzing about it lol. Might pop over and join you ๐Ÿ˜‚

On another note, are people buying baby monitors before baby is here? Im not sure if we need one straight away or if it can wait. If you have got one, do you have any recommendations on which to buy?

beetree1 · 18/06/2022 20:01

@KizboBaggins we had an angel care mat for when they were in our room for peace of mind through the night then we brought a camera one for when dd eventually went in her own room. That one was kodak and both were good.

I felt like I was able to sleep better once I had the angel care mat as I was forever hovering over and checking her x

Mattieandmummy · 18/06/2022 20:14

@MollyRover that sounds amazing. Where are you? Is there room for another? ๐Ÿ˜‰

MollyRover · 18/06/2022 20:37

The Benelux region, it's very much the norm in Continental (Western) Europe. I very much appreciate I'm privileged, can't believe what my poor sisters had to go through.

@KizboBaggins we had the angelcare one too, gave me great piece of mind in the beginning. Word of warning though, when baby starts wiggling around the bed and off the mat the alarm will go off. Had a couple of heart attack inducing episodes before we figured that out Hmm. For that reason DH hated it, plus the fact that the batteries do not last more than 15 minutes on vox. I still love it though, and we're using it again.

SamanthaVimes · 18/06/2022 20:52

@KizboBaggins we didnโ€™t get a monitor until DD was about 4 months as we didnโ€™t really leave her before then.
We got a cheap one and itโ€™s shit (the battery is really dodgy), looking to get a new one for this baby with 2 cameras so we can keep an eye on both DC

ShellUK09 · 18/06/2022 20:54

At the hospital I'm going to you get your own room with en-suite plus a bed for your partner to stay, I hadn't realised that was uncommon! I'm still hoping we won't be in the hospital a long time though

CaptainCarp · 18/06/2022 21:54

I've had a couple of period type sensations I assume its as baby is engaging.

Tried bouncing on my ball tonight.. Not sure it did a lot although baby did move around a bit after I got off so maybe it liked it!

@KizboBaggins I've not got a monitor yet. I'd like a video 1 so just got to work out a good 1. I feel i won't need 1 for 6 months as baby will be with us anyway.

I'm so glad its cooler tonight although apparently upstairs in our house is still 20 degrees.
Took ages to fall asleep last night then I woke at 5am & wasn't able to get back to sleep!
I'm not hugely tired but spent the day feeling "out of sorts"

Capricorn8990 · 19/06/2022 02:13

So ladies, I had my baby girl at 37+1 on 18/06/2022! I can't quite believe it xx

DayToNight · 19/06/2022 05:11

@Capricorn8990 Congratulations and welcome to the world LO. Hope it all went well.

Fingerscrossedfor2021HK · 19/06/2022 05:48

@Capricorn8990 congratulations!!!

I hope that I wonโ€™t be the next one on this thread to announce babyโ€™s arrival. However, I am 34 weeks and woke up with light bleeding and contractions. Am in the hospital for monitoring and they have managed to stop the contractions with a drip and have given me steroid injection for babyโ€™s lungs as a precaution in case he decides that he is determined to arrive early. Wish me luck!

So glad I came in because I was sure they would say I was overreacting and it was Braxton hicks but no - monitor revealed that I was having regular contractions 2 minutes apart. They werenโ€™t any more painful than regular (light) period cramps so get yourselves checked out asap ladies if you have these sorts of symptoms. Doctor said it was really good that I came in asap because it meant they could stop things before the bleeding had a chance to get any worse.

Also for anyone reading this who might be worrying about the steroid injections being really painful (I was told they would be agony) they werenโ€™t bad at all!

Lianna93 · 19/06/2022 06:05

@Capricorn8990 Congratulations lovely! How exciting that the first of our babies has been born ๐Ÿฅบ Hope you're both well! ๐Ÿฅฐ

@Fingerscrossedfor2021HK Hope baby stays put just a little bit longer for you but so good you followed your intuition & got checked. Best of luck to you ๐Ÿฅฐ

@Capricorn8990 congratulations on now being a Mummy!!!!

SamanthaVimes · 19/06/2022 06:13

@Capricorn8990 congratulations! Hope your birth went ok

@Fingerscrossedfor2021HK hope youโ€™re doing ok. Well done for trusting your instinct and going in.

CaptainCarp · 19/06/2022 06:13

@Capricorn8990 congratulations!
Baby didn't want to keep you waiting! โ˜บ

@Fingerscrossedfor2021HK hope you are OK! I know someone who had to have the steriod injections, they managed to keep baby in until 37 weeks & although baby came out small they are now a perfectly healthy 6 year old & you wouldn't know they had any issue!

MollyRover · 19/06/2022 06:21

Congratulations @Capricorn8990 !!! Amazing news and welcome to your baby girl xxx. Hope everything went smoothly, I'm not too far behind you (36+5 now), 37 +1 would suit me down to the ground. All done and dusted within DC1s school day preferably ๏ฟผGrin

@Fingerscrossedfor2021HK what a fright you've had, are you feeling ok? How long will they keep you in for?
