Oh snap on the due date! @MittensForKittens123 ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’–

Maternity clothes are so rubbish and overpriced! I've got H&M jeans which are comfy but start falling down if I walk too long. All my tops are normal & all the baggy tops I bought for lockdown home lounging ๐Ÿ˜… Totally stuck with what to buy now for summer, I want tops to transfer to nursing tops but they're all tight tight tight! Also tried my first nursing bras the other day and had a total panic about the faff of trying to take my top down/up AND then fiddle around with bra clips with just one hand while holding my bambina ๐Ÿฅต what an absolute faff!! I desperately want to try to breastfeed but definitely not up for flashing my boobs, around family especially ๐Ÿ˜…

Coco9910 · 13/05/2022 11:37

@MittensForKittens123 hope your antenatal classes go well! I couldnโ€™t find any in person near me but managed to get on a course thatโ€™s about 30 mins from me but it doesnโ€™t start until 22nd June and I'm
due 28th July so going to be a late one but Iโ€™m looking forward to it!

NamelessBaby1 · 13/05/2022 11:39

@Hope3821 I've just had my first ordered nursing bras arrive, got one on today which is ok but yeah agree re the faff of unhooking them... I guess we'll get the hang of it soon enough though!

I'm planning on just going to Primark or something and buying some t-shirts in a few sizes bigger than my normal just so I have something to wear for the next couple of months. Hoping to get away without actual nursing tops and just use a wee blanket or something for privacy if I feel I need it.

Not sure if anybody is still looking for a travel system but this is a steal!! Kinda annoyed we've already got ours lol

NamelessBaby1 · 13/05/2022 15:28

That's a brilliant price @ChinChilly ! I was a bit ridiculous with ours and refused to get one in grey or black, haha. Pram snob ๐Ÿคฆ that price would almost make me reconsider though!

ChinChilly · 13/05/2022 17:07

@NamelessBaby1 IKR, kicking myself I brought a very similar bundle from silver cross which was half price but was still ยฃ799 we've had it too long to return it now too ๐Ÿ™„

Confusion101 · 13/05/2022 17:13

My travel system was slightly shy of โ‚ฌ2K ๐Ÿ˜ณ

NamelessBaby1 · 13/05/2022 17:18

ยฃ830ish for mine ๐Ÿคฆ but I got it at the baby show so it includes the isofix base and the lightweight car seat which is an upgrade on what you get here: www.venicci.co.uk/product/tinum-2-teal-bay/

Also it folds down really small and is really lightweight, and given my DH and I are approaching 40 and both super unfit I was going for comfort for us (and colour haha) above anything else.

ChinChilly · 13/05/2022 17:42

@Confusion101 Ouch! What did you go for?

@NamelessBaby1 lovely colour though!

www.silvercrossbaby.com/prams-pushchairs/bundles/coast-bundles/coast-and-simplicity-plus-car-seat-with-isofix-base-bundle/ this is the one we went for

NamelessBaby1 · 13/05/2022 18:48

Oh that looks lovely too @ChinChilly , the pram bit looks so neat! And you can't go wrong with silver cross, that was a good deal!

Confusion101 · 13/05/2022 18:54

@ChinChilly iCandy Peach 7. It is what it is now anyway, paid for and all ๐Ÿ˜…

Mattieandmummy · 13/05/2022 19:58

If it's not too late I'm due on July 15th, would be grateful if someone could add me as my phone won't!

On the taking formula / breastfeeding, baby will seriously be fine on colustrum until your milk comes in. With my first, I was told the colustrum is the gold dust bit of breastfeeding as it's so nutritious and you actually continue to make even after your milk comes in for about approximately a week to a week and a half after birth. Mine was tube fed my expressed colustrum until she was able to directly breastfeed at 8 days old and the amount she was given by the hospital staff was tiny! She wasn't topped up with formula and she was a 9lb 5 baby - she was absolutely fine and is now a huge 3 year wearing 4 to 5 year old clothes.

Plus the other thing to consider is that if you want to breastfeed then you need to wait until breastfeeding is well established before you offer a bottle of anything because it is much easier to suck from a bottle than your boobs and you might find baby would prefer a bottle over boob if they haven't developed a really good suck first.

KizboBaggins · 13/05/2022 22:25

Has anyone used/planning to use a TENS machine? And has anyone thought about giving birth in water? Or had experience with it?

Apologies if this has already been discussed. Up til now I've been pretty laissez faire about birth plan/labour but since watching Yorkshire Midwives on Call and reading some NCT stuff I'm wondering if I should start considering some wider options other than my current plan which is "Begin labour. Go to hospital. Have baby."

Confusion101 · 13/05/2022 22:28

I am considering getting a TENS machine too @KizboBaggins.. Water birth isnt available anywhere close to me and I don't want to have to travel too far.

SamanthaVimes · 13/05/2022 22:52

@KizboBaggins I'm hoping for a water birth if possible (although I hoped that with DD and it didnโ€™t work out that way but naively hoping second labour will be easier!)

ShellUK09 · 13/05/2022 23:06

@KizboBaggins yes I am going to get a tens machine, seen one that is ยฃ39 from Boots. Meant to be quite good for the early stages. I also quite fancy the idea of a water birth, but in the hospital I'm going to the pools are only in two of the rooms so not sure how it works if several people want to use them. If a water birth isn't possible I like the idea of just sitting on a birthing ball. Right now though I feel like I'm talking about birth plan ideas as if it's going to happen to someone else!

KizboBaggins · 14/05/2022 07:34

@ShellUK09 I've just checked and at my hospital there's 14 delivery rooms, and only one has a birthing pool... so yeah not sure how that's works if several people want to use it!

@SamanthaVimes ah lovely, will you be having it at home or at hospital? I hope you get what you want this time!

I only found out the other day that we don't go into hospital as soon as labour starts lol I am so underprepared... so I think a TENS is a good idea for at home!

Coco9910 · 14/05/2022 08:02

I was thinking this about birthing pools the other day. I really want to go into the birthing centre at my hospital but from what Iโ€™ve seen thereโ€™s only 2 rooms so I guess itโ€™s just luck on the day. Think it would encourage me to stay home as long as possible and just sit in the bath ๐Ÿ˜…

SamanthaVimes · 14/05/2022 08:20

@KizboBaggins at hospital. I did seriously consider a home birth but I needed pain relief that you canโ€™t get at home last time so aiming for the MLU thatโ€™s attached to our hospital. Itโ€™s quite good and if you need more serious intervention/ epidural etc itโ€™s only a trip down the corridor rather than a proper transfer.

Hoping I can get away with pethidene and gas&air this time as I donโ€™t really want another epidural but weโ€™ll see how it goes! I havenโ€™t ruled it out, just depends how much it hurts at the time.

kiwi17 · 14/05/2022 08:52

I have a tens machine someone gave me last time and I think it was good for early stages but can't really remember. I opted for homebirth last time so we had a pool set up ready but I went overdue so they strongly suggested I went into hospital for induction which I did as I was fed up of being pregnant by that point! I laboured just off pessary so was on my way to the pool in the birthing unit but started wanting to push so in the end gave birth in a room just off the unit ๐Ÿ˜‚ had paracetamol and gas and air so hopefully trying again for a homebirth this time round but who knows?!

Confusion101 · 14/05/2022 09:01

I've been keeping my ideas very private because I find people very judgemental if you are not opting for an epidural. Has anyone else found this? Lots of eyerolls and "oh don't be a hero now and get the epidural" "oh nobody needs to be a martyr" "oh you just wait, you'll want it" etc etc constant comments.

KizboBaggins · 14/05/2022 09:39

@Confusion101 ah no luckily I haven't have anyone say that! If anything I've heard more the opposite, people saying not to have one if I can help it. Either way it's such a personal experience, and things don't necessarily always go to plan either, so it makes no sense to pass judgement on other peoples choices... tbh I feel lucky that we're all in a position to even have this many choices!

@kiwi17 was that your first you were overdue with? Sounds like it went quick once you got started! I'm trying to guess whether baby will be early or late... I think it's more common to be late on the first isn't it?

@SamanthaVimes that sounds like a nice set up! What is pethidene? How did you find the epidural?

kiwi17 · 14/05/2022 10:01

@KizboBaggins yep with my first. She was born at 41+3 in the end but I think I was ready anyway - pessary in on Saturday morning about 8.30am, started contracting about 7/8pm, water broke in the bath at 10pm and born at 12.25am Sunday morning. People panic about inductions but it was really smooth for me thankfully! I think active labour (the really painful pushing bit) was 1hr 1/2 in the end. I think they tend to say firsts go over slightly but tbh my mum had 3 and we were all overdue and induced so I do wonder how much family history comes into play!

Pain relief wise I asked for more but I was told 'it's not been 4 hours since your last paracetamol' ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I think it was too late by the time I asked too so just had to crack on but the gas an air was fun.
