@Octoblockisadick I’m amazed you can feel your cervix. I can just about wipe after I pee these days… 😂

oh I just read about bank holidays affecting your sections. I had hopes to move my sweep to the 2nd to avoid the 1st, wonder if they’d do it on a bank holiday. Surely so 🤭

CurryandSnuggle · 19/05/2022 14:19

@Vimto1991 my midwife clinic isn’t open for the bank holidays nor on Wednesdays so that’s why my sweep has been booked in on 31st May. Was supposed to have it on 3rd June! But nevermind, it’s a few days early but I had a sweep with my son at 39 weeks and it worked 🙂

Vimto1991 · 19/05/2022 14:24

@CurryandSnuggle I think I’ve been booked in for the 31st as well, but don’t want babies birthday to coincide with the day my aunt died, as bittersweet that would be. May just have to wait until the 6th or try and get a sweep earlier, even though it may not work first time! Otherwise we may be in labour at the same time!! 🙂

I hadn’t even thought of the bank holidays 🙈wasn’t planning on doing anything for them, but hope if I go into labour they aren’t too short staffed. 😵‍💫

Clomid1 · 19/05/2022 14:27

@CurryandSnuggle what are sweeps like? Are they painful 😓

Brightsmoke · 19/05/2022 14:35

@Clomid1 they aren't painful, more just uncomfortable.

I've now spoken to the consultant midwife. She spent a good 20 minutes of our 30 min phone call trying to get me to agree to going into hospital. But we've agreed that baby will 'only' be predicted at 10lbs at 40 weeks, anything up to then, he's still an average size. So, HB, with regular internal examinations, trusting midwife if they can see any issues early on and transferring in, until 40 weeks. Got another growth scan booked for next week, so will have a plan B sorted for beyond 40 weeks then, whether that's to hold off for another week, or to go for a C section. Urgh, this pregnancy malarkey should be much simpler than it is!!

CurryandSnuggle · 19/05/2022 15:12

@Clomid1 I agree with Brightsmoke, it is uncomfortable but not painful, make sure you don’t tense up and that you try to relax your body as much as possible when they’re doing it. It’s over pretty quickly 🙂

CurryandSnuggle · 19/05/2022 15:13

@Vimto1991 good luck, let us know what they say 🙂

Octoblockisadick · 19/05/2022 15:36

@Brightsmoke I'm so glad for you that homebirth is a go! I was estimated at 8lb 5 at 36+2, which would suggest 10lb 8 by due date eek.
I've chosen to accept section around my due date because of that, I just think if he is that big I wouldn't enjoy that haha! If he comes earlier then great though. I really hope he decides to make an appearance soon.

@Vimto1991 my midwives aren't doing apps on bank hols either, I was meant to be seen next on 31st but clinic full so delayed to 7th June. I'm hoping I'll not have to go as I'll have a baby by then! 🤞🤞

Flowerbug1994 · 19/05/2022 15:46

@Vimto1991 yes bank hols 2nd and 3rd are meaning most normally run clinics and sections are off which means only emergency’s available. Some at my hospital have said there will still be scheduled sections some have said there won’t so I’ll find out tomorrow. I don’t fancy being stuck in hospital all over that 4 day bank holiday with no one to discharge me either 😭😭

Vimto1991 · 19/05/2022 15:48

Wow that’s mental, I get people need time off over a bank holiday, but at the same time we can’t really stop our bodies being pregnant and needing doctors/midwives during that time!

CurryandSnuggle · 19/05/2022 15:52

@Flowerbug1994 there will still be staff on duty, don’t panic if it comes to being in hospital on the bank holiday 🙂

EarlGreywithLemon · 19/05/2022 16:05

@unknownscot interesting question about contractions. They must be very individual because mine felt nothing at all like period pain. I had period pain just after they inserted the pessary and I thought that was the start of labour. But when the actual contractions got going 6 hours later they were completely different. There was a definite tightening feeling, and to start with they weren’t too bad. We went out for pizza, walked back etc. They took a full 8 hours to ramp up to properly painful. From then on I think I massively diverge from others because our daughter was back to back and that’s supposed to be very different. I didn’t have any breaks between contractions after a certain point for example, and they didn’t feel localised to any particular area - just pretty much everywhere. No feelings of wanting to push anything at all.

EarlGreywithLemon · 19/05/2022 16:08

Oh, and I’m sorry to say that my two sweeps were very different. My first, at 40 weeks, wasn’t painful. But the second one, at 41, was. I think it partly depends who’s doing them too.

unknownscot · 19/05/2022 16:10

So interesting that everyone is so different.

I've taken a half day from work today and have had back pain and loose bowel movement. I'm in trying to continue a nap I've just woken from.

I'm half hoping this is the start of something and half terrified too!!

Clomid1 · 19/05/2022 16:17

@Brightsmoke @CurryandSnuggle thanks ladies. I have to have one around 38 weeks. They definitely want this baby out before my due date eventhough they’ve said 16 centile is nothing to worry about.

I know we’re all nearly at the end of our pregnancy journeys. I don’t know if this was ever discussed but when they give you that tiny bottle and tell you to get them a urine sample how in the world do you get aim right without letting the bottle touch you 😂. My hospital do not give you the interesting looking funnels that make it so much easier to collect the sample.

I know take plastic cup with me. Pee in cup and transfer to container. I’ve even googled have people usually do it and it sounds like everyone just goes straight for the container. It seems unachievable to me 😳

unknownscot · 19/05/2022 16:26

@Clomid1 hahaha. At my hospital you pee into a small bowl, similar to a foil bowl, then decant the sample into the sample tube.

Can't imagine hospitals not giving you the proper equipment.

Bring it up to them. Maybe they've never been told?!

Clomid1 · 19/05/2022 16:45

@unknownscot Oh do they! See that’s a lot easier. I just get the bottle and nothing else and for the first few times I just couldn’t get aim right at all 😂 my plastic cups have solved the issue but I always wondered how other women did it 😅

Rolledthedice · 19/05/2022 18:05

@Brightsmoke glad your homebirth is still on the cards, good for you trusting your instincts and standing your ground. Out of interest, why do they require regular VEs? I’ve requested not to have any unless MW becomes concerned / there is an absolute need for one.

I’d like baby to come when baby is ready and am trusting this will be the case. 🤞🏻 Is anyone else going to let things progress with no intervention? It seems to be the opposite of most births I read about!

Rolledthedice · 19/05/2022 18:06

@Clomid1 lol yes it’s very tricky peeing into that tiny pot!

Octoblockisadick · 19/05/2022 18:26

@Clomid1 I just get given the bottle too. It wasn't too bad when I could see, but now because of my belly I'm finding it a lot harder haha.

Work has been absolutely chaotic today, all the computer systems have been down so we've had to put contingency plans in place and transfer everything to paper 😩. I didn't get my lunch until 15:20 it was that bad. 3.5h tomorrow and then maternity leave, with the chaos of today it can't come soon enough haha

Letsbekindplease · 19/05/2022 20:59

@Rolledthedice me. I’m just going to hope baby comes when ready. My son was 4 days early and hoping maybe the same this time.

I was offered sweep which I’ve said no to and I don’t want to be induced. Obviously if I go way over then I’ll agree to whatever they propose, but not before.

(seriously hope she comes early as I can hardly walk )

EarlGreywithLemon · 19/05/2022 21:16

@Rolledthedice l can’t speak for others, but in my case the examinations were useful because I dilated much more quickly than they were expecting - from 1cm to 10cm in a matter of hours, after being stuck at 1cm for 20 hours beforehand. When I had the epidural and they broke the waters, they told my husband it would be another 24 hours at least. In fact I was pushing 3.5 hours later. I also liked knowing where I was at, so to speak. But then I like feeling in control - other people no doubt feel differently!

Brightsmoke · 19/05/2022 21:25

@Rolledthedice because they're really concerned about shoulder dystocia, so want to make sure everything is progressing as it should be, and get an early indication if things aren't going right so I can transfer in without it being an emergency. I'm happy to agree to 2hrly rather than 4hrly, as babies health is obviously the priority so I want them to catch the problem before it's a problem so to speak

Prema112 · 20/05/2022 08:12

Had quite an eventful evening last night. Baby had been a bit quiet the eve before and was quiet yesterday, still moving lots but maybe just weaker movements. He then wasn't moving as much yesterday eve as usual so at 10pm I went to triage. CTG was fine but dr was very thorough, said I'm more high risk because of IVF, offered for me to stay in hospital and be monitored over night. She also said I could have an induction today if I wanted! (38+2) I was surprised by that since CTG was normal. I opted to go home & for CTG daily until they can scan me. Impressed with how thorough they were but surprised how quickly they offered induction. Baby moving fine this morning

Octoblockisadick · 20/05/2022 08:54

@Prema112 it's probably because you are over 37 weeks, once you are past that they consider baby ready as such so any concern on your or their side at all they would probably offer an induction in case it would put your mind at rest.
Are you just going to wait and see when baby comes or will you be having an induction/ section at a certain point?

It's my last day at work today woohoo!
