@Bubbasmama2017 I dunno she felt around said he's low and then wrote in my notes 4/5. I was really excited then googled it and just means the babys head is on the pelvic brim so close to entering pelvis but not quite there yet. He's pushing on a nerve in my left leg atm and making it hard to walk 😂

@Kittycaz thanks for the new thread. That's interesting! I'm seeing her again in 2 weeks so hopefully she'll mention it then. They couldn't work out if baby was Breech to start off with but she thinks they're the right way round, I'm not convinced and wish I could get another person to check but i always see the same midwife at my doctor's.

GinnyBee · 14/04/2022 15:59

OOh how exciting, new thread! Thanks!

I keep getting hot flushes in the middle of the night, wake up absolutely boiling. I think it's connected to braxton hicks. I don't really notice them much, but sometimes when I wake up at night I have this low level ache across my tummy and lower back which then goes away, and then I get really hot. I never notice my bump tightening, but last night I noticed it relaxing though.

I've also not been told anything about engagedness! Thor's been head down for the last three scans, but nothing mentioned about whether he's engaged and nothing in my notes either.

My midwife forgot to book me for 36 week appointment and she's now on annual leave, I just tried to ring her earlier. I'm 36 weeks on Tuesday bu hey ho, at least I'm now on leave so can book it with short notice quite flexibly.

JMill13 · 14/04/2022 18:03

Thanks for new thread and the invite!

So ready for 5pm tomorrow to set my out of office and not be back until January.

As I had an emergency section last time, can anyone tell me what an elective is like? Like is there much of a difference? What's the pre-op like?

aNewYorkerInLondon · 14/04/2022 18:08

Hi all! Thanks for the new thread!!

Had a good appointment today. BP is behaving itself, baby looks perfect on the monitoring.

Our induction is officially scheduled for Wednesday at noon. I'm a bit 😳 at that fact. I'm sure it'll be fine, but woah, it's real.

Even though my BP looks good now, they still want to induce at 38 weeks because there isn't much more room to increase dosages if it were to go up again. Soooo, yeah.

Sarah239 · 14/04/2022 18:22

Thanks for the new thread @Kittycaz

Hi everyone! I just finished my last day of work, feels so weird and won't sink in for a while I think!

Have come down with a cold yesterday though, perfect timing 🤦🏻‍♀️ Lateral flows negative so hopefully it's not covid but I don't trust the lateral flows 100% anyway, I know loads of people who had negative LFTs but positive PCRs. I just hope I can rest it off quickly this weekend!

@aNewYorkerInLondon wow!! Can't imagine how you feel! That makes it all feel more real for me too 😅 Will be so strange when we start posting that we have had our babies! Well I am glad your BP has improved and I hope it all goes well for you!

@JMill13 I don't have personal experience but from what I've read from other mums, elective c-sections are a hell of a lot calmer and a better experience overall than unplanned c-sections!! I don't know details though sorry!

I know nothing about engaged-ness, as long as she stays head down I will try not to stress about it! Got my 36 week appt next Thursday.

YummyMummyXoX · 14/04/2022 20:27

Thanks for adding me to the new thread! Can't believe how we are all getting to the end now. Hope everyone's doing ok good to hear people are finishing up this week and can maybe try and get some respite.
I've been nesting since 7am lol such a busy day had growth scan this aft approximately 7lb4 booked for induction on 2nd May, having my blood infusions a few days before so hopefully I'm covered. She just needs to not come spontaneously now. It's my birthday tomorrow so feel like the induction date was a lovely bit of birthday news x

MrsMay19 · 14/04/2022 20:52

How exciting can’t believe the babies are starting to arrive now! I keep getting this really odd feeling that feels like when you can feel your pulse in my pelvis, I think it might be her having hiccups? Does this sound about right? It’s happening 2/3 times a day? I’m also really struggling with stitches every time I walk anywhere. We are on a baby moon in Cornwall atm so it’s been rather noticeable!

YfenniChristie · 14/04/2022 21:41

Whoo! New thread! Thanks for starting this @Kittycaz

Saw the community midwife today for my 36 week appointment. Blood pressure was 130/85 - which they're happy with! She mentioned a couple of things that the consultant didn't mention and/or i forgot to ask - such as the baby's blood sugars being affected by the meds I'm on, so they'll need monitoring for 24hrs after birth, and that I'm likely to be on these meds for a little while afterwards.

@aNewYorkerInLondon @YummyMummyXoX Exciting! Hope it goes well for you. Do you know how they'll be inducing you? They haven't said anything, but I'll be exactly 38 weeks when I next see the consultant and my gut is telling me they'll be inducing me shortly afterwards.

@MrsMay19 That sounds like hiccups to me! When I've had them, they feel like a pulse in my bum 😳 It feels like they go on for aaaaaages!

fejkalove · 14/04/2022 21:58

Thank you for starting the new thread @Kittycaz

That's interesting @YfenniChristie - can I ask what meds you are on? Are these for GD?

I've had a manic week (went in for reduced movements Monday and they asked me to come back Tuesday as I had leukocytes and ketones in urine sample but Dr was fine with ketones as I'm strict dieting the GD). Then yesterday I had a 34w growth scan as the 32w scan showed she had dropped from 59th to 23rd centile (also lowest side of normal amniotic fluid). She has dropped again now to 8th centile so had to be reviewed in day assessment unit. Dr has advised they may now bring her at 37 weeks (baby is also breech) and I'm to have a Doppler scan next week and growth again at 36 (although my hospital have no appointments available for either for 3 weeks!) before my clinic appointment.
I then had my community midwife appointment in the afternoon and she asked if I'd go back to be monitored at the hospital yesterday afternoon as she thought she heard a deceleration in heart rate. Monitor was okay and had to go back again today to check which the criteria was also met at....so much stress and worry!! I'll be surprised if I have any hair left before long!!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 14/04/2022 22:02

Thanks @Sarah239! It is surreal to be sure. I hope you feel better soon. There's definitely a lot of non-Covid viruses going around -- we had a nasty cold about 6 weeks ago and it was just a cold.

@YummyMummyXoX, it sounds like you have a good plan. The nesting urge is real. I was awake until 2am last night nesting (then I slept all morning). Are you feeling any better? I hope so!!

@YfenniChristie, thank you! They said they typically start with the Foley balloon/bulb to try to get the cervix to kick start things, then if that isn't enough, they'll do a couple of rounds of the hormonal cervical ripening. If things still don't progress on their own, then, once they get the cervix going, the fun with the syntocinon starts... I'm honestly not happy to be being induced, but I think at this point the choice is between induction and c-section, so we're giving it a go. I'll just be glad to have gotten to 38 weeks.

It depends how favourable the cervix feels on examination as to what options are best on the day. The babies hiccups are insane it's like rythmitic spasms!! I haven't seen community midwife since 28 weeks lol had my bp checked a few times at hospital not had urine in all that time luckily was fine today Struggling on a night it's not easy at this stage is it x

My baby also needs blood sugars testing then an immediate feed then testing again, for 24 hours at least. I will need diabetic monitoring too and be checked aound babies birthdays if I don't continue with diabetes after the pregnancy x
YfenniChristie · 14/04/2022 22:21

@fejkalove That sounds like a manic week! Fingers crossed things get better. I'm on blood pressure meds, specifically labetalol.

@aNewYorkerInLondon That's interesting! The info I've been given suggests they use "cervix ripening rods" here - which don't sound particularly appealing. Do you know if you'll be able to have someone with you while you're being induced? (I know it differs from health board to health board). I asked about the possibility of a C-section with the consultant and she wasn't keen for me to have one.

Kittycaz · 14/04/2022 22:37

@fejkalove our LO's do like to worry us I hope everything is OK. My hospital is the same was supposed to have a scan tomorrow to check on the high fluid but they rang me few days ago to say it's a bank holiday weekend so they can't see me until Wednesday at earliest.

@GinnyBee exactly whats happening with me hot flushes when I'm in bed waking up dehydrated with my bump tightening then I have to run to bathroom and drink half a pint of water. And the cycle continues 3 times in the night, 😂

If anyone's curious this is what midwife wrote in my notes about engagement in the previous visit she wrote free.

@YfenniChristie, considering that a lot of inductions end in c-sections anyway, sometimes there isn't a choice in the end.

Thankfully they will allow my husband to be there from the start of the induction until baby is born and we've been moved to the postnatal ward (from then it's regular visiting hours, 8am-8pm). I'm so grateful for that!!

JMill13 · 15/04/2022 08:17

I'm another one with hot flushes and definitely think BH, it's so strange cause I absolutely didn't feel those last time. Though that being said I didn't feel kicks or anything last time.

So exciting how close we all are now.

Our trust is apparently still only doing visiting hours for one person for 1 hour a day after baby is born so I really really hope I don't have to stay too long after birth. Even in the height of Covid last time my partner was able to visit 2 hours a night (still shite but better than an hour) are all your hospitals back to normal in that way yet?

Last day of work today, the excitement is real.

Hi everyone, just thought i would post an update here, i havent been the most active member on this thread but ive been reading and following all your journey's!
So my due date was the 25th May.. but i became a mummy on Wednesday!
Our little girl was born at 34 weeks by c-section. I had been in hospital for 2 weeks with various problems which i wont go into but it was decided the best thing for me and baby was to deliver her early.
Shes on the neonatal unit now, we're both doing well and im completely and utterly in love Smile

aNewYorkerInLondon · 15/04/2022 09:16

@JMill13, our hospital's visiting hours are 0800-2000.

My husband can be with me 24 hours/day from the induction through the birth, then visiting hours once I'm in the postnatal ward.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 15/04/2022 09:16

@JMill13, one hour seems very, very strict!

GinnyBee · 15/04/2022 10:09

@JMill13 Emergency and planned c-sections are like night and day! I haven't had one, but my friends who had an elective honestly loved the experience. It was calm and relaxed, they were rested and happy, the procedure is quick, you can have your own music, everyone in the room is calm. There's no stress to get baby out urgently, mum isn't exhausted from hours of labouring, baby isn't in distress from hours of labouring, doctors aren't rushing to save you both.

JMill13 · 15/04/2022 10:13

@aNewYorkerInLondon that's amazing. I would much prefer that.

The last update I read was in a BBC article in February and this is all it says

During labour, one nominated birth partner may accompany the mother although the duration of visits will be decided by the midwife in charge.

The trust says that a nominated partner can accompany a woman for induction "in exceptional circumstances".

They will also decide the duration and timing of once daily postnatal visits from two nominated birth partners from up to two households."

I find the whole thing strange that every hospital and trust area have their own set of rules still.

the actual hospital website hasn't updated their rules since August 2021 so that's super helpfulHmm

Ooh amazing. Glad to hear it. I don't know anyone that's had a section planned or otherwise (except me) so it's so hard knowing. I didn't even get to the labour stage last time. Brought me in at 38 weeks for an induction next morning they decided nope get that balloon out we're going for a section. Crazy times, so hoping this is as you say and a lot more calm and chilled experience.
