Should be 8 weeks, measuring 6 weeks with heartbeat

Looking for some experience/advice from anyone who has been through this.

I am absolutely sure when I ovulated and we only had sex once on the day before ovulation.

I went for a scan today and baby is measuring 3.1mm and the sonographer said 6 weeks, there is a heartbeat.
I am worried this is not good news. She said to come back in 2 weeks for a scan but I am not optimistic.

There was also a twin sac but doesn't look like that is developing.

Any advice/help would be appreciated, is there any hope here?

@BabyGally22 how are you? Have you had any more scans yet? X

Hi @FlapJackered yes I had that follow up scan last Wednesday and as suspected no heartbeat so I did medical management route over weekend..... still not the better for it.... onwards and upwards...
how are u?

Indianna2006 · 12/04/2022 19:13

@BabyGally22 could you help explain how your medical management went? Do you mean it’s still ongoing?

I think that option seems better than surgery if after 2 weeks nothing has happened naturally. I don’t want to be waiting ages.

Was it super painful?

FlapJackered · 12/04/2022 19:17

Really sorry to hear that @BabyGally22 I hope you're ok.
I am still waiting for my scan on Friday. Not feeling positive about it though. I think it will most likely confirm my gut feeling. I just want to get it over with now though. It's a private scan though so I assume I am then going to have to go through it all again to get it confirmed by the EPU.

OP posts:
Indianna2006 · 12/04/2022 19:35

@FlapJackered yes you would which just prolongs the process. As they want there own two scans to confirm too so more waiting before anything can be done if nothing happens on its own.
Couldn’t you contact EPU to be seen by them and cancel b they private scan that’s what I’d do.
Call your midwife or GP and they will refer you. I didn’t mention my scan. Just said I’d had period type pains and blood when wiping so I’d be seen as I knew my dates were SO obv and knew it meant a mmc. And low and behold I got referred same day and they called me same day and then saw me today which was the next day! And had it all confirmed. So glad I did what I did now.
And didn’t wait. As I knew in my gut it wasn’t right.
An least now in a week times I can make a decision if nothing has happened.

Hopefully you have good news. But such a shit wait x

FlapJackered · 12/04/2022 19:53

Thanks @Indianna2006 that's a smart decision re the EPU. I will call them tomorrow.
It's just torture waiting. I just want to know either way.

Indianna2006 · 12/04/2022 20:04

@FlapJackered yes deffo do that. If you google your local hospitals EPU. The nah site will tell you if they take self referals or if you need midwife or GP to refer you.
If you’ve not had booking in appointment midwife can’t do it but she can if you have. If so call her. She can refer you. If not do emergency on day call from Docter call your surgery and they will also do it.
Some you can self refer tho so just check the website.

I called midwife 8.30am yesterday. She said call GP as I hadn’t had my booking in appt yet. So did that. He called me back 11.30am did referall. And EPU called me 3pm and said can you come in tomorrow at 3.30pm. Then they called me this morning saying we’ve had some cancellations can you make 11.30am. So very fast service. Seen within 24 hours almost. And they were lovely. Much better than a private clinic imo. There very honest and will give you the straight info. And it’s the place you end up being if it’s bad new anyway.

BabyGally22 · 12/04/2022 21:30

@Indianna2006 I'm still going through it. I would recommend definitely getting difene prescription and the anti sickness tablets too and take them an hour before u take the four cytotec tablets. I had a tough time with the pain. It started instantly and without being crude I spent hours on the toilet. Someone gave tip to clean bathroom and I'm so glad I did cause. Also get some super pads cause I bled quite a lot on day one.also put towels on bed just in case, I didn't realise how heavy the flow was and ruined nice sheets 🙈it's day four now and I'm back bleeding again but totally manageable and just small cramps. I didn't look in toilet or on tissue on day one I just found it too much. I'm much much better today, I took final dose of cytotec yesterday and while I got the cramps again it was only 60% of first time.
I hope that doesn't frighten you but I felt hospital told me it will be like a bad period (and I get horrendous pain) but it was way worse than I expected so I feel I'm better to be honest that u may have similar experience, I'm hoping you don't .

BabyGally22 · 12/04/2022 21:32

@FlapJackered wishing you the verrrryyyy best. There is still hope for you xxx

Indianna2006 · 12/04/2022 21:38

@BabyGally22 no I’m rather you’re honest thanks.
I think my hospital uses a different method as the medicine was two diff types and given over 48 hours in clinic. But will be similiar I imagine.

I have mc naturally before at 13 weeks. And it was like labour contractions it was so painful. So I can imagine the meds are worse than period pain!!

My boobs are already less sensitive and sore. So maybe my body is starting to cotton on. I’m hoping it does and does it on its own. But time will tell

BabyGally22 · 12/04/2022 21:42

@Indianna2006 I'm so so sorry to hear that. I don't think any way is worse or better it is just a shitty shitty time. That's the first thing I noticed my boobs gradually got less and less sore and I wasn't thirsty anymore....
to be honest I feel relief that it's nearly over, it's absolutely draining worrying about scans. We are ivf so I'm putting everything into getting ready for next round.

Tor2022 · 12/04/2022 22:50

So sorry about your scan result @Indianna2006.

I had also been told by the EPU I had to come back on Thursday to confirm it before they would advise about medical or surgical management. However at the weekend I passed a significant amount of tissue (maybe an early placenta (?) , as baby was only 4mm) and now my bleeding is slowing down, so I called today and the EPU said that I don't need the scan anymore, but they would advise me checking a pregnancy test in 3 weeks time to check that it has returned to negative.

I just want to get pregnant again as soon as possible Sad

Indianna2006 · 13/04/2022 07:07

@Tor2022 😞 yes sound like most it maybe has completed. Which is for the best I guess. Took me about 3 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test after my Mc 4/5 years ago.

I know. I imagine that’s how we all feel. Will you try streight away? Took us 11 cycles to get this pregnancy so it was no easy task. So I don’t hold high hopes. As it was almost last shot for us as we will have a bigger age gap as it was. Let alone now.

@BabyGally22 so sorry yours was ivf as well and you’ve now got to go through it again. Getting these babies is no easy task.

SzeliSecond · 13/04/2022 07:42

I had this. I knew dates due to tracking ovulation as 7+1, went for scan - no heartbeat as too small and dated at 6w so booked back in for 8+3. Everything was fine at second scan although measured me at 8. Heard and saw heartbeat. Good luck xx

Tor2022 · 13/04/2022 09:32

I'd like to try straight away. I had a very early miscarriage (bleeding the day I got the positive test) in August and my cycles went back to normal after that, but it took until January to conceive again.

That's useful to know about the pregnancy tests taking a while to get back to normal, thank you x

Indianna2006 · 13/04/2022 09:54

@Tor2022 yes ttc is no fun. It’s such an unknown on time frame.

I really wanted to fall so my DD would be own four. But it took 9 months. So now she will be 5 plus even if I fell quickly. Makes me feel super sad. But it’s out of our control.

Fingers crossed doesn’t take as long.

I plan to ttc again streight away. Is hard to know when you ovulate and they like you to wait for a period for dating. But if you can pinpoint your ovulation should be an issue with dates

Indianna2006 · 14/04/2022 09:02

@FlapJackered did you manage to speak to EPU?

FlapJackered · 14/04/2022 09:22

@Indianna2006 I didn't, I spoke to my midwife but she knew about the scans and said I was best off waiting for the private scan tomorrow as the EPU has a 48 hour wait for scans and she also said that once I stop taking progesterone it may all happen naturally which is what I would prefer.
When I get it confirmed tomorrow I will probably ring EPU to get a plan of action. X

Hey OP,

Just wanted to say I had an early scan when I was 7 weeks by my calculations - I was told I was measuring 4.5 weeks and 5 at an absolute max, no heartbeat and literally just a sac that looked empty. When I went back 2 weeks later at my 9 week calculation, I was measuring 8 weeks and 5 days with a heartbeat. They said with these early scans it can be difficult to get an exact measurement which is why the first scan is usually at 12 weeks. I also had a friend who was adamant of her dates, her measurements remained 1.5 weeks behind for her entire pregnancy and she has no clue how based on how she calculated it - so don't give up hope yet!

Good luck tomorrow, will be thinking of you and hoping for a positive outcome!

Nikki037297 · 14/04/2022 15:29

@FlapJackered I hope all goes ok tomorrow at the scan I was so shocked when my baby had suddenly caught up with his dates but it can and does happen. Do you feel pregnant?

FlapJackered · 14/04/2022 19:20

Thanks both, I do feel in my gut it's not right, but I might be wrong.🤞

@Nikki037297 some days I do and some days I don't. I am definitely not as tired as I was when I was pregnant with my son. Also I am taking progesterone and I know that can mimic some pregnancy symptoms.

Nikki037297 · 14/04/2022 19:34

Well I hope all goes well tomorrow with one of my children I never felt pregnant and had an early scan at 9 weeks expecting the worst but nope he was there. So I hope all is well for you tomorrow

FlapJackered · 15/04/2022 11:25

Not good news sadly. It had grown a little more but the heartbeat has stopped. 😢
