Should be 8 weeks, measuring 6 weeks with heartbeat

Looking for some experience/advice from anyone who has been through this.

I am absolutely sure when I ovulated and we only had sex once on the day before ovulation.

I went for a scan today and baby is measuring 3.1mm and the sonographer said 6 weeks, there is a heartbeat.
I am worried this is not good news. She said to come back in 2 weeks for a scan but I am not optimistic.

There was also a twin sac but doesn't look like that is developing.

Any advice/help would be appreciated, is there any hope here?

Also turns out I ovulated from both ovaries which apparently is pretty rare?

I had exactly this; was absolutely rock solid sure of the date dd was conceived, but when I went for an amnio was told she was two weeks behind that. I worried and worried.

However, she was 71b 10 oz and healthy as a horse.

DuckaLucka · 01/04/2022 18:51

It’s really hard to measure at this stage, 1mm out can really throw your dates.

FlapJackered · 01/04/2022 18:52

Thanks @Mumsnut . I just can't stop worrying and googling, I don't know how I am going to get through the next 2 weeks.

How many weeks were you when you had the amnio?

OP posts:
FlapJackered · 01/04/2022 18:54

@DuckaLucka Is that possible? I thought it was meant to be really accurate?

OP posts:
DuckaLucka · 01/04/2022 18:55

No, it really isn’t accurate. The baby is tiny! 3.1mm, try measuring that. It’s hard to visualise, and dating is completely dependent on them clicking in the exact right place.

Mumsnut · 01/04/2022 18:56

I think I was supposed to be 12 weeks. They made me go home and come back in a fortnight. I was 45 , hence the haste to have an amnio.

FlapJackered · 01/04/2022 19:08

Thanks both, that is reassuring. Keeping everything crossed. I am wondering if the fact there was a twin may impact the size too?

If you ovulated from both sides, perhaps you ovulated from one side earlier than the other? X

I have this situation but no heartbeat and 5mm. I’m supposed to be 8+4 (the minimum it could be from the last time I dtd and if sperm can last 5 days it should still be 8+3 so not much wiggle room for mine). She said it’s measuring 6+1, 5mm it has a fetal pole but not hb detected. I don’t have any hope. They have offered a scan in 12 days time.

A heartbeat is a good sign at least? That’s a positive?

FlapJackered · 01/04/2022 21:21

@CSR721 maybe 🤞

@Blue2020 so sorry to hear you're in a similar situation. It's so hard having the wait knowing there is nothing we can do. 💐

I had similar but I’d had a scan baby measured 5 weeks barely which was my dates. They’d Sid come back in 2 weeks. I would have been 7 weeks, went back baby measure 5+3 not 7! Still a heart beat. They discharged me because there has been progress but I was really not comfortable at all. I went privately for more scans and my baby suddenly caught up. Or they measured him wrong. Iv no idea but he was born at 40 weeks 8lb8oz

FlapJackered · 02/04/2022 09:59

Thanks @Nikki037297 that's reassuring.
I spent half the night googling and it doesn't seem to be a positive ending for most people so it's good to hear there is some hope.

Having a heartbeat is always good news. My baby measured behind apparently but "caught up"

Good luck xx

Mariposa123 · 02/04/2022 11:40

Had this with both babies, and both perfectly fine. Like you I was sure of the dates (and regular cycles) so seems to be something weird that I do.

BabyGally22 · 02/04/2022 13:22

I am in exact same position as you, 7 weeks but measuring nearly two weeks behind with a heartbeat..,, I'm back in after a week to see if any progress. We are ivf so we know dates cannot be wrong.... I've had mixed thoughts, fertility clinic don't seem too hopeful at all, preparing me for the worst but I've spoken to two other mums on another forum who like the other ladies have said babies were exact same and 'caught up' cause at this stage they are so tiny it can be hard to measure accurately!!!
Il keep everything. Crossed for our little beans xxxxx

BabyGally22 · 02/04/2022 13:23

Heartbeat seems to be positive indicator at this stage xxx

FlapJackered · 02/04/2022 21:24

Thanks @Mariposa123 @Mommaof2bubs that's very reassuring to hear. X

@BabyGally22 I am sorry to hear you're in the same boat, it's so hard waiting isn't it.
Especially after IVF, my son was IVF so I know how hard that is to even get to a bfp. So much waiting!

What was your CRL length out of interest?
I will keep my fingers crossed for you, when is your scan?
I am trying to bring mine forward a bit as I just don't think I can wait for 2 weeks. X

BabyGally22 · 02/04/2022 21:37

I actually do t know, we went for that scan because we were told at first scan that they're was nothing in the sac and needed a second scan to confirm miscarriage so low and behold shock when we were told heartbeat..... I just know it's measuring behind and fertility clinic were super negative whereas nurses in EPU felt it was more 50/50

BabyGally22 · 02/04/2022 21:39

We have the scan printed so if that CRL measurement would be on scan tell me what I'm looking for and il check

FlapJackered · 02/04/2022 21:48

That's good that the nurses at the EPU had more hope?
It was at the bottom of the scan and also on the scan notes I got.

No it's not on it.... maybe just aswell another thing to obsessively Google 🙈

FlapJackered · 02/04/2022 22:11

Yes you're probably right, it doesn't get you any closer to an answer, i just found an extra bit on my notes saying the heartbeat was faint, which makes me even less positive. 😢 Just not sure I can wait two weeks, I think I might book a scan somewhere else this week.

OP posts:
Okeydoky · 02/04/2022 22:13

Did they make any notes on the heart rate? I seem to recall there are quite a few statistics out there for chances of success depending on the heart rate.
