Should be 8 weeks, measuring 6 weeks with heartbeat

Looking for some experience/advice from anyone who has been through this.

I am absolutely sure when I ovulated and we only had sex once on the day before ovulation.

I went for a scan today and baby is measuring 3.1mm and the sonographer said 6 weeks, there is a heartbeat.
I am worried this is not good news. She said to come back in 2 weeks for a scan but I am not optimistic.

There was also a twin sac but doesn't look like that is developing.

Any advice/help would be appreciated, is there any hope here?

@Okeydoky no, it just says 'faint fetal heartbeats seen' which doesn't sound good.

Sorry to hear about your anxiety. I remember having a similar thing happen - there was me being absolutely convinced about my dates. To put your mind at rest, I remember coming to blows with the doctor about it and him saying to me that if there's a heart beat there's 95% certainty the baby will go to term. My baby was born with no issues. I'm not sure the comment about the heart beat is relevant. The heart isn't fully developed at this stage so probably wouldn't be strong.

Thanks @Dogknowsbest I hope you're right.🤞it's going to be a hard few weeks.

A HB is def a good sign. They will all start of faint surely.
Crossing fingers your bean is fine. As others have said very difficult to measure accurately at this stage.

Tor2022 · 02/04/2022 22:55

I am in the same position @FlapJackered, I went for a scan when I thought that I was 8 weeks on the 25/3, but I was only measuring 5.5 weeks, but with a faint heartbeat. That would mean that I had had a positive pregnancy test at one week after ovulation, which seems way too soon. I have a rescan on the 9/4, but I don't feel optimistic as I've also had some spotting.

FlapJackered · 03/04/2022 06:55

Thanks @Frazzled2207 🤞🤞🤞

@Tor2022 sorry to hear you're in a similar boat. It's torture isn't it. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope this next week goes quickly for both of us!

Thanks @FlapJackered, I'll keep my fingers crossed for your scan too x

Indianna2006 · 10/04/2022 11:56

@FlapJackered any update?

I am now in this position. I think I feel I know the outcome. 😰

We tried for a year for this pregnancy. And just feel like can’t believe this is happening to me again. As I’ve had a mmc before with a previous pregnancy.

FlapJackered · 10/04/2022 12:11

@Indianna2006 sorry to hear you're in the same boat. It's so hard especially when you have been through a mmc before. I also had a mmc a few years ago after a year of ttc so I don't think that helps with the anxiety!

No news on my front. I have my scan on Friday 15th and still had no bleeding but I still don't feel optimistic.

Do you have another scan booked?

FlapJackered · 10/04/2022 12:12

@Tor2022 how did your scan go? X

OP posts:
Indianna2006 · 10/04/2022 12:16

@FlapJackered my scan was at a private place. So they advised me to contact my midwife tomorrow. So see what she suggests. Whether she refers me to EPU for another scan in a week or so to see any progress. Just hope they will rescan me and not make me wait 4 weeks.

So by my dates which I’m certain of I should be 8+4 ish. But measures 6+1 with a heartbeat. Although it doesn’t mention and they didn’t mention what the heart rate was. I seem to think it appeared slow on screen.

There is just now way it can be measuring they and be right. Because I had a positive test over 4 weeks ago.

FlapJackered · 10/04/2022 12:22

@Indianna2006 that sounds exactly the same as me. I am just holding on to the hope either the measurement was wrong or it will catch up. It is such a torturous wait.
I hope your midwife is helpful tomorrow and you get a scan quickly.

My early scan (5.5w) no heartbeat and measuring so small they asked if my dates were correct. I went back 2 weeks later and they found a heartbeat and baby was measuring 9w! Funnily enough I went into labour on my EDD based on LMP even though my 12w scan put my EDD over a week earlier. I figure babies don’t grow along a linear line.

Indianna2006 · 10/04/2022 13:24

@FlapJackered I do keep thinking early on the measurements can be wrong. But by that wrong?

Doesn’t help either I went for scan with my DD that stage ish at about 8 weeks and her development looked very different. This just looked like a blob with a heart beat. Is they what yours looked like? Couldn’t really distinguish Head and tailend or anything.

It has been mentioend I had a tilted uterus before in an ultrasound of my uterus to check my fertility. So I’m not sure if they can alter things and the image a bit if there hiding. But I don’t feel optimistic tbh 😫🥺

@PurBal
babies do there own things. But from what I’ve seen majority of the time measuring that far out isn’t a good sign.

Tor2022 · 10/04/2022 13:50

Hi @Indianna2006, sorry to hear that you are in a similar position, I hope that the conversation with the midwife is helpful tomorrow X

@FlapJackered unfortunately my scan after 2 weeks showed that baby's heartbeat had stopped and baby had not grown anymore Sad. I am now waiting to fully miscarry. X hope your scan goes better than mine (I had also had bleeding which was probably also a bad sign) x

FlapJackered · 10/04/2022 14:29

@Tor2022 I am so sorry to hear that. It's heartbreaking and so unfair. I hope it all happens quickly for you now. Look after yourself x

@Indianna2006
I attached my scan a bit further down. Exactly the same, just looked like a blob.

My DS measured much bigger for the time too so it's hard to be optimistic but there does seem to be some hope from some stories here. 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
FlapJackered · 10/04/2022 14:33

@PurBal that's very reassuring. It's hard to understand the science of it as I am so sure on my dates, which makes it hard to have hope. Friday can't come soon enough!

OP posts:
Indianna2006 · 10/04/2022 15:26

Oh yes I see. I’ll try attach mine.

In my photo it was a bit clearer on screen but the black blob is the baby.

My CRL was 5.74mm and she dated me 6w1 day. Which is 2 weeks behind for me.

Should be 8 weeks, measuring 6 weeks with heartbeat
Tor2022 · 10/04/2022 15:32

@FlapJackered thank you X x

FlapJackered · 10/04/2022 17:55

@Indianna2006 there must be another marker other than CRL that they use to date, as my CRL was 3.1mm but she dated me at 6 weeks too? I wish I understood it all more.
I would have thought 5.74mm sounds positive? 🤞

OP posts:
Indianna2006 · 10/04/2022 18:00

@FlapJackered I have no clue. But CRL for 6 weeks seemed at about 5/6mm. But by 8 weeks it should be 3 times the size at 18mm. So it should grow loads in that time.

I know my dates are right 100%. I can’t possibly be only 6 weeks.

🥺

Indianna2006 · 12/04/2022 13:14

@FlapJackered had a scan today. Confirmed baby no longer has a heartbeat. And it’s a failed pregnancy.

Waiting for a week to see if anything happens itself and then will go back in.

FlapJackered · 12/04/2022 14:07

@Indianna2006 I am so so sorry, it's so hard and so unfair. Look after yourself. 💐
I am dreading my scan I am sure I will be in the same boat on Friday. X
